Hiromu Arakawa (author: 荒川弘) is a Japanese manga artist, best known for Fullmetal Alchemist (鋼の錬金術師 Hagane no renkinjutsushi). Her real name is Hiromi Arakawa (荒川弘美).
Arakawa was born and raised on a dairy farm in Hokkaidō. She thought of being a manga artist since she was little. After graduating high school, she took oil painting classes while working on her family's farm. During that time, she also created dōjinshi manga with her friends and drew yonkoma for a magazine. After eight years she moved to Tōkyō and started out as assistant writer for Hiroyuki Etō. Her debut as manga artist is in 1999 with STRAY DOG. In 2001 she started working on her famous and award winning series Fullmetal Alchemist, that soon gets a successful anime adaptation. Other works include Silver Spoon (銀の匙 Silver Spoon, Gin no saji Silver Spoon).
Final arc! Senior year of high school is moving along quickly as the final shot at nationals comes for the graduating members of the equestrian club. In the second half of the book progress continues on our hero's start-up business while his tutoring may put his classmate and love interest within reach of getting into her dream college.
Looks like the world's best agricultural high school rom-com is going to finish strong!
C'est toujours aussi plaisant et instructif de lire les aventures de ces lycéens d'un établissement agricole. Un petit clin d'oeil aux JO de 2020 (qui auront lieu au Japon) est présent dans ce tome !
It's so interesting to see how Hachiken and his friends are starting to wind up their high school experiences, and beginning to launch out into the real world. Some of them are going to college and preparing for entrance exams. Some of them are doing research to start their own businesses. Hachiken decides to start a massive pizza experiment to research the best types of pizza that will sell for the most money using only farm-fresh ingredients.
It was so sweet to see how Hachiken really starts to take things seriously and he gets the support of this father as an investor in his business. He begins to connect with his family again, and he starts to realize just how important the friendships that he has made in high school are going to be for networking his business in the future.
AGHH! This last year at Ezo AG is going too fast! I just complimented the last volume for not rushing things and now we fly through 4 seasons in this one. It's disappointing because after and we meet the new riding club recruit in volume 12, I was looking forward to seeing how that dynamic played out. The good news is I thought this was ending next volume but it turns out there's two more to go, so we'll hopefully get to linger longer on what happens in the final semester. I'm gonna miss these teens so dang much.
OMG, this is another series that I care for all the characters even though there are some annoying characters. It was fun and inspiring!!!!! Hachiken Yugo, the main character has transformed so much that I grew to care A LOT for him but he can be quite annoying sometimes. His relationship with Mikage, aargh, those idiots, I'm totally standing with her friends! Those two are really stupid with their relationship! Haha! Ookawa senpai is also another idiot, but he proved himself to be worthy as Hachiken's partner in their business. I miss Komaba! The family dynamics play a big part of the students in Yezo High, because since they are in the agricultural field, they have to inherit their family farm and I found it fascinating and new to me. Most of the Asian countries started as an agricultural state or nation so it feels great to learn something that used to be close to us, Asians. I am really inspired by Hachiken and his friends in so many ways that I am glad to re-read this series. However, the bad news is this series is in a hiatus!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Send help! 5 stars!!!!
23/4/2020 I like all the characters in this series, they are definitely charismatic in their own way. I do hope that kids or anyone would pick up this series. It is definitely educational. This series is completed and I've finished reading the remaining two volumes online. I hope I can purchase them soon. 5 stars!
12/11/2021 This is still one of the most underrated series of all time!
Hachiken and his friends are now in their third and final year of high school. Those in Equestrian Club are gearing up for their final competitions. Mikage is buckling down in her studies trying to get a recommendation to university. Hachiken and Ookawa's business is plugging away. The various clubs come together to make pizza and test out which kinds would sell best. And Komaba is down in Tokyo working hard to save up money for a mysterious goal he isn't sharing with anyone yet.
The first part of this book made me laugh quite hard. During the first equestrian competition there's a guy from another team who decides to play mind games with Mikage since he's heard she's Ezo Ag's best rider. Well, with a little help from her teammates and a picture of Hachiken's Dad, the tables are drastically turned and it made me laugh so hard. (I also love that Hachiken's Dad's picture is rumored among the Ezo Ag students to scare bad spirits away. SO hilarious.) I really appreciate how Hachiken and Mikage are honoring Mikage's parents wishes for her not to date during high school so she can focus on her studies even though they are getting a huge amount of pressure from their peers to ignore those boundaries. Even though Hachiken has made great progress with how he handles setbacks since the start of this series, there's an event in here where he fails miserably and demonstrates that the drive to be perfect is still deeply engrained in him and a hard battle to fight. Highly recommended to those who like contemporary fiction with occasional moments of humor.
Notes on content: About 4 swear words. No sexual content. No violence.
It is impossible that there can be enough pages to wrap everyone’s story up over two more volumes! Minamikujou’s perfectly timed visit was too much—Two-hundred Fifty-five-ken... Ha! The pacing in this volume is whip fast. I thought the last one felt abbreviated, but... I’m eager to see what Komaba is building his cash stockpile for. Will Hachiken have a new investor? Come June, there is going to be an agricultural high school-sized hole in my future manga purchases. At least I still have a few more Fullmetal Editions to come and Arakawa sensei’s continuing and stunning adaptation of Arslan to look forward to.
Still great, but there is a rapid timeline acceleration that's not clearly shown and it threw me off.
I'm still loving this series, the characters and story are as amazing as ever, but this last story arc (The Tale of Four Seasons chapters) are happening at a much faster time scale than everything previous. This volume starts at the beginning of their 2nd year of high school and by the end of the volume they're already in their 3rd year. This isn't necessarily bad, but it never clearly states that so much time has passed. In the next volume it finally says explicitly that they're in their 3rd year and it was very jarring. I thought I had missed something.
Snippets of the gang's 2nd and 3rd year. Compared to the whopping 10 volumes for Hachiken's freshman year. His 2nd year is rushed and his 3rd year extremely quickened. Followed by snapshots of his life and the rest of his friends after school.
And I feel the story telling went down hill for it. While there are still moments and comedic punchlines that reminded me of how I much I enjoyed this series. It's not the same. Everything feels so crammed and you are getting info dumped about everything to get a move on.
The ending actually was so weak. It didn't go out with a bang or fond melancholic memories. It's suddenly you are there! It's done!
The Ezo Ag team participates in a national equestrian event and Hachiken has a pizza party to judge marketing interest.
This volume was a bit disappointing because it feels like the storyline has been rushed into overdrive. Where we would usually be savoring a moment, instead it's months later. Regardless, I always enjoy this series and want Hachiken and all his friends to have a good end to their story.
Swearing/profanity: So, this count isn't going to be accurate because a previous reader of my library copy crossed out words in the book! It was strange though because they left in a "oh, hell no!" but crossed out the e in "sexy". A true mystery.
Sexual References: None
Religious elements: The group writes down wishes at a temple so that they come true
Thingss are moving towards the end and you can feel it. Hachiken's business is slowly moving towards, Aki is working towards getting into her college of choice, and every character seems to be getting ready for the series to wrap up. The comedy is still there (Hachiken's dad being a character with a scary aura is never not funny) and there are a lot of cute moments.
Oh my… from 2nd year to 3rd year within a couple volumes… The pacing of the story has changed. I can’t help but feel rushed but I am ready for this series to end.
You know how you have a character that is not very prominent, but when they make an appearance they help set the show or a book in another direction. That is what happens in this book. I adore this character, because they keep pushing on despite the obstacles in their path. This character makes an appearance near the end. We also have the return of pizza party plus a sensei.
Lihat mood gimana. Sebenarnya idealnya sih baca manga yg ngebahas produksi teh misalnya, secara aku pecinta teh, tapi kurang ilmunya di bidang teh, hahaha.
Ahh, more horses~! The Ezo Ag Equestrian Club is competing to qualify for Nationals at Gotemba
Other than that, Hachiken is working hard on his business, researching Jinhua (Chinese) pork production as well as the different varieties of pizza toppings that they might sell at the Ban'ei Stadium. Not to mention he's still raising those pigs at Mikage's ranch.
We also get a glimpse at what Komaba is up to these days (and my precious baby boy is working hard~ He kinda reminds me of my little brother, baseball and all.) And the series is almost over and I don't want it to be because it's so good and I love it!
