Caitlin realises she is in a boring relationship with her boyfriend, John, after a friend tells her about her latest experiences and experiments. Fascinated, Caitlin decides she wants to try the same thing, but John refuses. To John, it sounds disgusting and he wants no part of it. Finally though, she convinces him, but he's not impressed unlike Caitlin. And now she wants more. With John still refusing, Caitlin goes online and finds a site with likeminded members and is soon caught up in this little world. Now, it's all she can think about and with the help of her new friend, Aaron, she will discover things about herself she never thought possible. But John is not happy about this. Not happy at all...
J. Boote is the alter-ego of Justin Boote, author of horror and dark fiction. J. Boote writes primarily extreme horror, not for the faint-hearted or easily offended.
Fluid Freaks and Soiled were two of the first extreme horror books I’ve ever read, and also the first books by J. Boote. When I learned there was a third book coming and I got the opportunity to ARC read it, I obviously couldn’t resist.
Gaping is the third book in the Fetish Freaks series and it is written in third person POV. The story follows Caitlin who, after talking to one of her friends, develops a certain taste for something. Her boyfriend John, who is about as adventurous as a wet towel, is absolutely not on board to discover this new world with her. Caitlin turns to the internet where she meets Aaron, who is more than happy to show her what she’s been missing.
While J. Boote has a talent for writing endings that make my jaw drop, I did see this one coming. Does that mean I disliked it though? Absolutely not. The pacing in this book was great despite it being relatively short. The story made me feel very uncomfortable at times (like an extreme horror should) but it also made me laugh multiple times. I will never be able to look at hamsters the same.
With 81 pages, this book is perfect to binge in an evening. It is not necessary to read the other books first, as they are all standalones.
(I received this book as an ARC and I am leaving this review voluntarily.)
By now I’m quite familiar with Justin’s works and this 3rd novel in the “Fetish Freaks” collection was my first in this “filthy” little universe.
Well what can I say, little shocks me 👀 but(t) I was very impressed and disturbed by the things that seem to disappear into certain places. This was a quick, filthy, disturbing and weirdly entertaining (Don’t judge, I laughed because people are bizarre) read and can be read as a stand alone. I will also leave some emojis here for all who know and those who’d like to find out:
🥚🥔🍷 🍌🍎🍑🐹🦑🐟
Thank you to the author for this ARC, I leave this review voluntarily and in my own words.
This book made me want to jump out of a sky-borne airplane with NO fucking parachute! This shit is vile and absurd. How my moral compass is still intact, one will never know.
On an evening out with a friend Caitlin has a conversation that makes her rethink her relationship with her boyfriend John. Her friend is telling her about some new sexual things she’s tried and Caitlin is intrigued. She immediately goes home to discuss it with her boyfriend John who is not only uninterested but disgusted by Catlin’s suggestion. Unable to suppress her curiosity, she decides to take matters into her own hands. This opens up a whole new world to her that she never knew existed. Since John has no interest, she goes online to find people that do. She discovers a website which leads her to others who also like to indulge in this fetish. Little does she know her newfound interest may destroy more than just her relationship.
Caitlin finds herself stuck in a rather boring and monotonous relationship. One day, while out to lunch with a friend, the conversation takes an unexpected turn when her friend starts sharing all the butt-related activities she enjoys. Naturally, Caitlin’s curiosity gets the better of her, and she decides it might be time to do a little exploring of her own.
Now, if you’ve ever read anything by J. Boote, you can probably imagine where this story is headed. Or maybe you can’t.
My advice? DON’T TRY THIS AT HOME
As always, thank you so much to the author for the early read.
This sentence will stick with me forever.🤣 I had an absolute honour receiving this books of nastiness as an ARC and I had a brilliant time with it.
I expected the ending -having read many books by Justin- but it had moments that still had my jaw on the floor. Especially a lot of WTF moments. Still absolutely love his writing. I swear there is absolutely anything this man could write and I would gobble it up.😂
