I ordered this on kindle over a decade ago, and decided to re-read it this week.
The book could be summarized in a few points
*consumerism is bad *people are lazy *declutter everything at once *get rid of things *find a place for everything and memorize the new location *your kids will probably derail your efforts, but eventually they’ll get on board *people usually buy things because they want to fit in and not stand out. *hoarders gonna hoard. *decluttering might fix depression
This book isn’t a true guide, if that is what you are looking for. It’s mostly a commentary on why people are clutter bugs, because they are lazy and consumeristic with 2-3 practical tips.
There is acknowledgment that there are emotional/mental reasons for clutter, but it offers no support.
It’s an old book, so my expectations should have been lower…but I’m sure there are better, more nuanced, respectful and practical blog posts on the topic.
reads like reading a term paper on the topic. not bad information but nothing new or memorable to note. good refresher but disappointing in in the lack of concrete steps and practical put into practice steps.
