I chose this that Nguyen because after going thru the numerous recipes I realized that I would have to modify every one to reduce the sodium content. The use of processed foods to make the recipe s easier is the weak link here. No one needs that much salt.
I like using my slow cooker, but wanted to expand my collection of recipes. This book helped with some very interesting recipes and some that were familiar. I would recommend it for anyone with a slow cooker.
Too many recipes were too similar. And this is a personal issue, but way too many roasts and meatloafs. Show me how to make something different! I'll still use it, though.
I mean if you want a definitive collection of slow cooker recipes, this is the book. With multiple via region recipes for almost every conceivable stew, casserole, soup, etc slow cooker recipe.
I usually don't review cook books but I could not resist sharing with everyone how AMAZING this cook book is.
I am a slow cooker lover. Especially as the days get short and school and work get busy. So when I was sent this book to review I got really excited. I poured through it looking for recipes I though my family would actually like and I would find easy to make.
I found too many to count so I narrowed it down to two recipes that I would try so as to give an honest review.
The first was country chicken. I chose this one because it used chicken thighs which my husband loves and I really don't care to cook.
Most importantly it did not involve browning or defrosting anything first.
Second we did the triple chocolate lava cake. I have never done a slow cooker dessert so I was a little dubious about it. I really had nothing to fear. not only was it also was it easy peasy to make but it was so delicious that my family has been begging me to make more.
That is a win in my book. I have been scoping out other recipes to try from here but wanted to get a review out so that others could enjoy this as much as I did.
As a homeschool mother, I know the joy of using a slow cooker. Nothing like popping something in to cook in the morning, and at supper you have a great meal ready with little work. This book is packed with interesting things to cook. My first attempt was the granola, and I wasn't very impressed with the results. It may just be a personal taste issue, but I like chunky granola, and this was anything but chunky. I even tried adding extra honey, but that didn't work. The flavor was okay, but nothing spectacular. This is one recipe I'll stick to making in the oven.
Don't let this discourage you, though. There are great recipes in this book such as the Chocolate Lava Cake that are well worth your time. Scrumdidliumptious! Give the Herbed Pot Roast and the Chicken with Red Onions, Potatoes and Rosemary a try! I can't wait to make Sausage Town, Polenta in the Crock Pot and many more.
I received a copy of this cookbook from Skyhorse Publishing for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I love the selection/variety of recipes in this particular Fix It and Forget It. I've made several things and other than lacking in the kind of pumped up flavor we like (easily remedied) everything has turned out well. The hints and tips are very useful too. Kudos to the author for including recipes at the back of the book for making homemade versions of cheese sauce, cream of something soup, etc. I really appreciate that.
This book has many recipes and while I have bookmarked a few there are many that have too much sugar in them. As a caution for my health I would not make them. There are also ingredients left out and other editorial errors.
