Leaving the familiar comfort of her UK home for a weekend in Texas is one of the craziest things Charlotte Evans has ever done. Celebrating her birthday with friends is the highlight of her year until she bumps into her favourite rock star, literally.
Gage Weston is used to having women fall over themselves at his feet … A rock star, an actor, he’s got his fair share of female attention, but what is it about the Brit that grabs his attention from the moment they meet?
Communication issues and crossed wires plague them as they try to work out what is going on with them across thousands of miles. Crazy friends and distance issues aside; can a relationship work, or is it a simple case of ‘a girl in every town’?
M. B. Feeney is an army brat who finally settled down in Birmingham, UK with her other half, two kids and a dog. She often procrastinates by listening to music of all genres and trying to get ‘just one more paragraph’ written on whichever WIP is open; she is also a serious doodler and chocoholic. Writing has been her one true love ever since she could spell, and publishing is the final culmination of her hard work and ambition.
Her publishing career began with two novellas, and she currently has multiple projects under way, in the hopes that her portfolio of what have been described as “everyday love stories for everyday people” will continue to grow. Always having something on the go can often lead to block which eventually gets dissolved by good music and an even better book.
Her main reason for writing is to not only give her readers enjoyment, but also to create a story and characters that stay with readers long after the book is finished, and possibly make someone stop and think “what if . . . ”
I wasn't really feeling this one I'm afraid, even though I thought it would be right up my street.
She's a fan of his group who runs into him in real life. He immediately takes a shine to her, although I didn't really understand or feel it.
She's married to someone else with two young children when they first meet so I was expecting that to provide some much needed angst or at least some soul searching, but it barely caused a ripple.
And then there was the fandom thing. Full disclosure, I was a member of a fandom for a music group when I was younger and the dynamics of that fandom were kind of fascinating; we were united in our love for the group and loved sharing our excitement for every little thing they did, every note they played, everywhere they went etc, but at the same time there was this strong undercurrent of jealousy and one-upmanship that was rarely acknowledged, but always there. I can't help but wish this had been explored a little more in this because obsessed fans are complex creatures, probably more than we see in this I fear.
What I did like though was the fact that the h in this is an ordinary gal, in her thirties, living an ordinary life right up until all of her fantasies come true. For once, she's not some improbably gorgeous stick girl, but one of us. She even uses the bus and shops in supermarkets ffs. Loved that, makes such a refreshing change to read about a real, relatable woman having all of her dreams come true. There's hope for us all.
Much as I liked the down to earth h, her smoking was a big turn off. I felt like the cigarettes were a main character in this they got so much attention. I get that a character being a smoker is a useful way of getting the characters to have some intimate chats outside away from everyone else, but the frequent references to lighting up cigarettes made me wince, especially when it preceded a tongue kiss...just lick an ashtray and be done with it. Bleugh, nasty.
If you're looking for a rockstar romance about a real woman that will fuel all of your fantasies and that's low angst then this will probably be right up your street, but it wasn't quite right for me I'm sad to say. Standalone, complete story.
*** ARC RECEIVED FOR AN HONEST REVIEW *** Honesty is my middle name.... 2 Stars... well written. 1 Star.... sexy and heartwarming. 1 Star.... it made me LOL. 1 Star.... great plot and characters.
All of these elements make up this great read. This is the story of Charlotte and Gage, with a whole host of other fabulous characters. Charlotte goes on the trip of a lifetime to Texas, she can't wait to meet her online girlfriends, who are part of a forum that was set up and run so that fans could follow and idolise their guys, 'A Pocket Full of Lyrics'. They all meet up so that they can see the band live.
These are all die hard fangirls.
While she is far away from home, Charlotte does some serious soul searching about her home life, particularly her relationship with Dermot. This is helped when she runs into the hot lead singer... enter Gage Weston. He his seriously hot, but a real and down to earth bloke. And so begins a love story that will leave you oohing, ahhing and laughing out loud.
The secondary characters in this book are fantastic, the witty banter, the dialogue between them and the amazing way the author makes you feel like you are within the group is astounding. I really enjoyed this fabulous read and I know that this is Mich's first full length novel. Well done honey, you nailed it right on the head! ***** FIVE STARS!!!
I was kindly given an ARC of It Started in Texas by MB Feeney... and what a great read!
This is the story of groupie meets rock star, except Gage Weston isn't like most rock stars. He's sweet and funny and very grounded. This really appealed to me (that, and his southern drawl). Charlotte and her friends are relatable, funny, and, at times, a little crazy, but hey, we've all been there!
There's a strong supporting cast - and they all get their closure in this book, which was nice. The only thing I would've liked was a better glimpse into the band and the ups and downs they face. We meet them all and learn a little about them as individuals, but I wanted more (I'm just greedy that way).
If you enjoy rock star romances with a HEA then add this to your TBR!
This story starts up just as Charlotte travels to the great US of A for a birthday trip of a lifetime. For me, this story started much, much sooner.
As a close friend of the author, who has read this story from quite early on, I can give a 5 star review, but that’s not why I’m going to.
This deserves a five star because of how simply and beautifully M.B. Feeney has written all of these characters. I’m not just talking of Gage and Charlotte, but the secondary characters, too. They all have depth, wit, substance, and that’s not something you see often these days. All of them have rounded out this story in a fantastic way, each bringing their own personalities to life and thus expanding an already brilliant storyline.
I’ve seen and heard this author go through stages of self-doubt, frustration and giddiness with how these characters have confused and rubbed her up the wrong way. But she’s come out the other side with a story that will melt your heart in places and to also want to hit a couple of the characters, too.
Gage is . . . Well, Gage is a man through and through, but once he sets his heart on something, there’s no stopping him. He’s what I would call perfectly flawed. M.B. Feeney has managed to write him so true to life, you can almost imagine him in a recording studio, looking at his phone and smirking at a picture on his phone. He’s not your typical Alpha male that’s trending in books. He’s a down to earth, honest, and very sexy man.
Charlotte is also a great character and they both fill out what I want to see in a couple when I read. She isn’t too star struck and her feet are plainly on the ground (most of the time). She has commitments that she has to constantly think about, but that is another great thing to have with a character. She’s relatable. There’s no airs and graces to her, which I love. What you see is what you get and it’s so refreshing.
M.B. Feeney, you can tell, has poured a lot of what she knows into this book, be that the details or the music, and I couldn’t be more proud of her if I tried. She didn’t give up, which I’m so glad about and I can’t wait to see what she brings us next, because I know it’ll be awesome.
One could be forgiven for presuming this story is nothing more than the fantasies of a thirty something woman with a crush on a famous actor/musician. Of course there is nothing wrong with that, we've all played athe game of 'wouldn't it be nice if...' and while that may well be the case, it doesn't take long for you to realise that this isn't some tale of Cinderella being whisked off to fairyland and dressed in Gucci's finest. The protaginist faces real life dilemmas. She has kids, a life, she's more Lambrini than Dom Perignon. While Charlotte gets on with real life after a brief affair with her much younger celeb crush Gage, he can't quite get the feisty Brit out of his head while he's busy touring with his band and gearing up to promote himself as the next big thing on screen. Resolving their issues isn't as straight forward as you might think and understandably, Charlotte makes assumptions about Gage due to miscommunication and misunderstandings. While Charlotte and Gage are trying to sort themselves out, secondary characters in the book become the light entertainment. Matt (Gages bandmate)and Karina (Charlotte's slightly nutty friend)take centre stage and the slight angst is tranferred to them for a while. It would be interesting to see what became of that couple in another book.
It Started in Texas, moved across the pond and landed in my Kindle. Thanks Mich! I couldn't put it down!
ARC kindly provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. Mich popped my Rockstar cherry . What a sweet read this was! O my… Gabe, what a sweet sweet man, sigh. A sexy Texan with great manners and great friends. There is an age difference, but I liked that the h is older than the H. Normally it`s the other way around. Also this story contains cheating, I didn`t mind it though in this story. This story is about Charlotte Evans, mom and Gage (Charles) Weston, rock star and actor. You also meet their friends. Charlotte is in an unhappy relationship with Dermot, together they have 2 children. She is a huge fan of A Pocket Full of Lyrics. Together with her online girlfriends she goes to Texas to see a concert of them. In Texas she realises she can`t go on with Dermot. In a bar she meets Gage and the rest of the band and ends up kissing him. For the rest of the story read this great book! What I liked: This is a HEA, That you meet many great other characters and The fact that you see their relationships blossoming. What I didn`t like: That sometimes there didn`t happen much. I would highly recommend this book if you are looking for a sweet read.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Right off the bat, the fact that this is a rockstar romance pretty much sucked me in. Add to that, the rocker is a hot Texan and you've completely won me over. I loved this book - the characters were well developed and I felt like I was right there with them all - at the venues, shopping, in the airport and - *blushes* in the bedroom. Gage Weston is off the charts hot and lovely Charlotte, the pretty lady from across the pond captures his heart. Age difference? No worries. Children from a previous relationship? Again, no worries. Gage is the perfect Texas gentleman. I will say, there were a couple of times where I thought I was going to have to open a can of Whoop Ass on him though (I'm a Texan, so bear with me on the slang) All in all it was a great read and an even better love story. I will tell you that #TheBootsStayOn. Rock on MB Feeney!
Oh, and I was one of the lucky ones to receive an ARC!
Older female, 35, younger rock star,Gage, 26. Female POV. She's in a passionless marriage and flies to the US to Texas to meet her friends from online. They plan to go to a concert where they are all huge fans. She runs into Gage, literally and sparks fly. They spend time their get her and consummate the relationship while she is still married, which seemed out of character for her. Anyway she goes home and Charlotte and her husband split on good terms. Over time and distance they find their way back to each other and get their HEA. There is also a book in Gage's POV called Looking Back From L.A. Good book.
Charlotte Evans is on the road trip of her life to see her favorite group Pocket Full of Lyrics. She leaves the UK to meet some friends in Texas and nothing prepares her for the events that are about to unfold as she unexpectedly meets the lead singer Gage Weston.
Something about Charlotte attracts Gage to her and he is not about to let her go, even as she returns to her children and common law spouse. But she realizes that maybe she is attracted to more than just the famous Gage.
As the two begin a long distance relationship they are faced with so many problems and really need to figure out what it is they are both after and if their love is strong enough to survive the distance and insecurities.
I really loved that Charlotte was a normal person with insecurities and children. I think having children threw the book in a whole different direction as she had so much more to consider than just herself. I enjoyed the relationship between Charlotte and her ex, Dermot, showing that not all splits are nasty and that it is possible to work together for your children. I also really enjoyed the relationships between Charlotte and her friends. They all had such fun together and I really felt like I was there bantering along with them.
The relationship between Charlotte and Gage showed so many fears that women face and so much self-doubt that many of us face everyday. Charlotte never thought she was good enough for Gage and he really worked hard at showing her how much he cared about her, no matter how famous he was. They faced many issues and really had to figure out what they both needed and I liked how they were able to go through and resolve things at times.
As a blogger I went through a stage of reading rockstar romances. I read so many that I had my fill so I stopped reading them. Then M.B. Feeney lets us know she's releasing a full length novel & that was it I wanted to read it. I'm so glad I read it as I absolutely loved it. She's brought the sexy rocker love back into my life:)
Charlotte travels to Texas on a trip of a lifetime. She goes to meet her online friends to see her favourite band play live. When Charlotte meets her idol Gage Weston the attraction is mutual. I was so jealous as I wanted Gage for myself. I kept thinking what's gonna happen when Charlotte goes bank to the UK. Nope I'm not gonna say. You need to 1-click to find out.
I adored this book. The main characters were brilliant. I loved the secondary characters. They added so much to the story.
I love how Charlotte came across as a 'normal' person. This author has a great talent of portraying her characters as real and she rocked it with this story.
I was honoured to receive an arc of this book and what an amazing read it was.
When Charlotte goes on the trip of a lifetime, not only does she get to meet her long time, online friends, she also gets to see her favourite band perform live. When Charlotte literally bumps into her idol Gage Weston she is seeing more than stars. She is seeing up close and personal what an amazingly good looking guy he is. Gage, finds this Brit totally intriguing. She is always in his thoughts even after she returns home. Their strange relationships continues over the ocean, both deciding to see where it goes. Obviously, being so far apart has its MANY problems, but can they figure a way to get around the hurdles they face? I absolutely loved this book and it was a pleasure to read. All the characters are brilliantly written and there are some definite laugh out loud moments, trust me there are also ‘I wanna bang heads together’ moments too. Definitely worth a read.
A full length Novel. I've read a few of M.B. Feeney's short stories and was looking forward to reading this one.
Charlotte is on an adventure of a lifetime, off to Texas to see the band she adores LIVE. Better still meeting so great friends she has meet in the forum rooms of the blog set up for this band.
Charlotte has an amazing time but also has time to really look into the life she is living.
Gage is a hot member of the band down to earth, not your typical band hottie. Gage has emotions and feelings right from the start, he is also the one Charlotte secretly adores. Has she caught Gage's eye? What is he going to think of Charlotte?
There are a few characters in this story and each one gets a part. It's great to hear how there lives are and the endings they all get. The main two for me though was Charlotte and Gage though.
This story is every groupies wish. It's full of laughter, heartache and love.
I was given an ARC of this story, and I have to say I wasn't disappointed. We get to meet Charlotte, who takes the trip to see her favourite band.
Gage is not only the idol whose music Charlotte has listened to over the years, but a man who loves with his whole heart, and is loyal and genuine. Once he sets his heart on something (or rather someone), there’s no stopping him.
Charlotte, the down-to-earth woman with a love of music who despite being a big fan of Gage's, doesn't become something she isn't as the story progresses. That's what makes her so appealing.
This story was a treat to read, Gage and Charlotte flawed and believable, with a strong (and lovable and quirky) set of support characters. (I would love have friends like these around, let me tell you).
If you want a great read, pick up a copy of this in December! :)
It started in Texas is the first book from this author that I have read, and I have to say I really enjoyed it. Gage westen is the lead male and 26 yr old Texan lead singer of pocket full of lyrics. Oh and total sweetheart. Charlotte is lead female and 35 yr old married mom of 2. The whole book is based on a woman who along with a group of friends from around the world crush hard on Gage. When Charlotte get to go see them live in Taxas with the group of girls well let just say the author gave her more than she bargined for. Needing to sort her mess of a life out once she got back home to the uk everything started to slip into place. A chain of events between Gage and Charlotte start putting there lives into prospective. This is a really enjoyable read not to heavy but with enough stuff going on to make it a page turner. This was a sweet one and im glad it was my first.
I absolutely loved reading this well written Rockstar romance, that doesnt do it any justice because it was so much more than just another romance novel. I had a hard time putting it down because the characters would not let me go. Go read this, you will be sucked into a beautiful story of meeting your idol and your wildst dreams coming true!
Received as an Arc. Rock Star Romance......yes please! Gage is a Rock Star, Charlotte is one of his biggest fans. So many fun times in this story. Great secondary characters. Who I would love to meet (hint). Mich's stories all flow so well. If you haven't read any of her stories go get one. Personally I loved it.
Loved Charlie, could really relate to her, same age as me with kids the same age, loved the story and the amicable relationship with the kids dad. Gage is gorgeous and loved seeing their relationship progress, loved the other characters too in this book. Looking forward to the book from Gages POV X
This was my first foray into the world of M B Feeney but I had been following her teasers of this book and was really excited to read it.
Charlotte Evans and her fellow Lyricists/best friends head for a surprise weekend gig in Texas which is where 'it' all begins, with Charlotte also feeling confused as she is already in a relationship, though somewhat stagnant.
It would be pretty unbelivable in real life for a fan to meet their fave rock star and them fall in love immediately but M B just manages to make this work - not only between Charlotte & Gage, but the other relationships of Karina & Matt, and Jenny & Wade too. Gage is the gorgeous, suave, Texan lead singer of Pocket Full Of Lyrics and a real Darlin' ;) I am now an official #ProudLyricist... I was swooning over him from the word go! (Wade is his also gorgeous cousin and I could go for him too).
M B just makes all of the relationships within the group work, they feel real, I totally wanted to be in there with them! All characters were so laid back and relatable. I had a mixture of emotions through the story, from laugh out loud moments to empathy to sadness to gasping out loud to 'awww' moments - especially at the end!
The only thing that I wasn't so keen on was jumping months in the same chapter but I see how it fits with the story. All in all, I loved my first read from M B Feeney and I'm looking forward to reading more, especially the next in the series! 4.5 stars from me.
M.B. Feeney finally made my dreams come true! It's a full length novel about Rock Stars, and I LOVED LOVED LOVED every minute of this story! Charlotte Evans has always been responsible, and never done anything crazy in her life, but on her birthday weekend, she travels all the way to Texas to see her favorite band. It just gets better when she actually meets her favorite member, Gage Weston. Gage is used to women falling all over him, but something about the Brit turns his world upside down. He can't get enough of her, so they start on a wild journey together across thousands of miles. Will they get through all of the obstacles to have something permanent?
WOW! I just couldn't get enough of this story. The character development is great, with secondaries that helped rock this amazing story. A exciting, fast paced, and well written story line flowed effortlessly, with well placed humor that made my stomach hurt from laughing so much. Every time I read a M.B. Feeney book, I spend the next couple weeks with new awesome words that drive my American friends nuts, and her easy writing style is highly addicting. She is fantastic at hooking me cover to cover, and the sexy scenes are SMOKIN HOT! I'm a big fan, and I CANNOT WAIT for more of her books! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
I love rock star romance and this book is up there with the best of them!
Charlotte is a 30 something mum of 2 from the UK, Gage is a southern charmer in a rock band from the USA and their story is heart-warming and sexy all at the same time.
Charlotte and Gage meet when Charlotte’s friends surprise her by flying her over to Texas from the UK to her favourite band A Pocket Full of Lyrics – The band Gage just so happens to be lead singer of. They share a steamy kiss in a bar then meet again a couple of times before Charlotte has to fly back to the UK.
They have a strong connection from the start and some very hot sex, but Charlotte lives in the UK and Gage the USA. After deciding to give a relationship a try when the band tours the UK, they then have to work through some miscommunications and drama from the fans of Gage’s band.
There are so many characters in this book that add to the story, from Karina, Charlotte’s slightly crazy best friend, to Matt, Gage’s outspoken, funny best friend and band mate. This story is funny, sweet and sexy. Looking forward to starting the next book.
"Hey Darlin'" I'm sure almost everyone throughout their life has had a famous person they fantasise about. Someone you really wish you could have a chance with, someone you have dirty dreams about.
What if it came true? What if you actually did have a chance with them?
This book explores that idea. Charlotte is a die hard fan of Gage Weston and when her and her friends travel to Texas to attend one of his bands concerts things take a turn for the unexpected.
I'm honestly not sure if this would actually be possible to happen in real life. It's pretty surreal. But that's kinda the point of books, you can make things happen that are pretty unusual.
But I enjoyed it. The relationships between all the characters are solid and the playful banter between the girls is hysterical.
I wonder if there is possibly a chance we may see books on the other band members?? It would be really nice if we did.
Altogether an exciting and fun read.
**I was gifted an arc in exchange for a honest review**
For months, I've been longing to get my hands on It Started in Texas. As a native Texan, and a longtime fan of Ms. Feeney's writing, I couldn't wait to dive into this amazing book. I wasn't disappointed.
Without giving away too much of the plot, the story follows Charlotte and Gage, their relationship, and the obstacles they face. It's every fan girls dream to meet her rockstar crush, but most know it will never happen, muchless that they'd want more than just friendship. Ms. Feeney does an amazing job with this storyline, keeping it real, and showing how conflicted Charlottte was with the decisions she was making. I'll be the first to admit that therer were a time or two that I didn't much like Charlotte, or the way she disregarded those around her, but overall, I thought she was realistic.
The only flaw I saw in the book was the ending. It seemed very rushed, very abrupt, but that leaves me hoping for more. Ihighlyrecommend this book to anyone looking for a great read.
When online Music fandom friends get together anything can happen. Charlotte goes to Texas from the UK and her life is never the same.Literally knocked on her ass by the one person she never thought she'd ever get to meet. Her Rock Star crush Gage.
Join Charlotte and her 'Lyricist' friends as well as Gage's band Pocket Full Of Lyrics and their family and friends on the this journey. Traveling , drinking, smoking and cussing, taking care of her family and hot sex, are all combined to make this a great story. The characters are great , the situations such as the reactions to fans that make you want to smack some of them ,to miscommunications that may tear Char and Gage apart. I received and ARC copy of this book for a honest review, and you have it. I recommend this story to all lovers of romance and Rock Stars. This is the first book that I have read from M.B. Feeney, and I look forward to more. 5 Stars!!!!
this is part of the Magic of books promotions and given in exchange by the author for an honest review ,. to point out i read because i love it and also this book interested me and um M.B. i want a sequel lol especially how you ended it lol . anyways so what do you do when you have a crush on a rock star and what may happen if you have your crush and you have a fun time though your married but are not feeling as your marriage is what it should be . do you only have a one night stand and try to fix or see what can be done if anything or fall for a man who can't seem to get enough of you . and what happens when you and your best friends travel and see the band and some hook up with a few of the band mates . so what to expect there will be marriages , divorce a proposal , moving and pregnancies . but as to whom or them that this may occur well you must read this for yourself to see what may happen and i hope to see a sequel hint hint on the author .
