While searching for Amelia Earhart, famed inventor Nikola Tesla is forced to work with reclusive horror writer H.P. Lovecraft as they race against a conspiracy of Cthulhu cultists for an extant copy of the original Necronomicon. Collects Herald: Lovecraft & Tesla 1-3.
An interesting series, composed by 9 numbers, divided in three books, the first three in this volume.
The story brings together several historical figures. Nikola Tesla and H. P. Lovecraft join forces to save Amelia Earhart, Tesla's future wife, who disappeared during her last crossing. To complicate matters, there is also a cult of Cthulhu worshipers, "the bad guys".
The story is enjoyable, especially for the differences between the two characters. Tesla more scientific, sure that for every problem there is a solution; Lovecraft more open-minded more inclined to consider the universe in all its possibilities, rational or not. Funny is the character of Lovecraft's mother, apparently a quiet middle-aged lady, but who will reserve some surprises.
Very beautiful designs, vivid colors and well-defined traits.
I liked it and I’m looking forward to reading the next numbers.
Surprisingly good, but only collects the first three issues of an ongoing arc. I'm intrigued enough to order the next. Apart from the titular characters, there's Amelia Earhart, Albert Einstein and mysterious cultists who look like Sherlock Holmes and Miss Marple but possibly aren't?
This is just the first 3 issues of the story, so there is not a lot to work with at this point. Some interesting things are going on, but the character of Lovecraft is kind of ridiculously air-brained and childish, that it is actually distracting. Not much character development in three issues, but Houdini came off as very unlikeable, Einstein and Earhart barely had a cameo, and Tesla was a bit flighty. The story ended kind of abruptly. This book was interesting enough that I want to know where the story is going, but only marginally so. The art was a bit on the cartoony side, but clean and consistent. Much like the story, it got the job done but was nothing special.
Picked this up at the source, a great place for graphic novels and magna. I've heard about this book and knew I had to read it, so when I found it it was a for sure. Read it in one sitting. I thought it was great. OK, so Nikola Tesla and H. P. Lovecraft join together to hopefully save Amelia Earhart who is also Tesla's fiancee. I liked how well it blended together, and am dying for the next one.
Fun, but incomplete. Requires the next volume to continue the story (and what's the point of collecting things into a TPB without grouping things into arcs?)
