A gorgeous novel of secrets, hopes, heartache and dreams, set in Pennfleet, home of THE LONG WEEKEND, by the author of THE BEACH HUT.

Pennfleet might be a small town, but there's never a dull moment in its narrow winding streets ...

Kate has only planned a flying visit to clear out the family home after the death of her mother. When she finds an anonymous letter, she is drawn back into her own past.

Single dad Sam is juggling his deli and two lively teenagers, so romance is the last thing on his mind. Then Cupid fires an unexpected arrow - but what will his children think?

Nathan Fisher is happy with his lot, running picnic cruises up and down the river, but kissing the widow of the richest man in Pennfleet has disastrous consequences.

Vanessa knows what she has done is unseemly for a widow, but it's the most fun she's had for years. Must she always be on her best behaviour?

As autumn draws in and the nights grow longer, there are sure to be fireworks in this gloriously engaging novel from Veronica Henry, author of A Night on the Orient Express.

I always enjoy reading novels by Veronica Henry, she seems to create a clever cast of characters in each book that she writes.

Kate lives in New York with a high demanding boss. When Kate's mother Joy dies she has to fly to Pennfleet in the Cornish coast to make funeral arrangements. While Kate is sorting through her mother's belongings she comes across a letter that she wants to find more about.

Single dad Sam lost his wife Louise, he had to carry on for his children Daisy and Jim. Sam moved to Pennfleet running a cafe.

Vanessa's husband Spencer had a massive stroke and after seventeen years of marriage she was burying her husband in Pennfleet. Vanessa Knight has just buried her husband but invites Nathan Fisher to kiss her.

Nathan thought that kissing the widow of the richest man in town probably wasn't one of his best ideas.

I highly recommend as it all happens in Pennfleet. This the perfect novel of love, lust, hopes and dreams.

This is first book by Veronica Henry that I have ever read and I very much enjoyed the experience. It is located in Cornwall in the picture perfect town of Pennfleet. It is a comforting place to be and you get drawn in the lives of the engaging characters. Despite never having encountered them before, they are extremely accessible.

So Kate is in town from New York to clear up the affairs of her recently deceased mother. She discovers a letter that makes her curious. Sam is a dad running a cafe. Vanessa has just lost her husband and her thoughts begin to run in other directions and another man.

A beautifully constructed story inhabited by a range of well developed characters who you want to spend time with. You get caught up in their lives. I loved it and plan to read other Veronica Henry books. Many thanks to Orion for a copy of the book via the goodreads giveaways.

I've read and enjoyed quite a few of this authors books now and High Tide is another one to add to the list.

The setting for this book is very picturesque and is a place I for one would love to live.

Pennfleet is one of those small towns where everyone knows everyone and your business is pretty much everyone else's also.

There are four main characters in the story who are all very different, yet each character I found very appealing and I couldn't wait to read more.

High Tide is one of those books that the reader just looses all sense of time and reality and surrenders themselves to the story and to the authors mercy.

From starting the book I just couldn't put it down. Each character fascinated me and I wanted to learn more about them and see what fate life had in store for them. The story really flowed well, flicking back and forth between each character and teasing the reader so that even though you wanted to read about another character you couldn't wait to get back to the one you had just read about.

This is a really lovely story which I think has been left wide open for a sequel, though that might be just wishful thinking on my part as would love to meet up with these characters again.

Many thanks to Netgalley and Orion Publishing Group for an Advanced Readers Copy of this book.

High Tide is a slice of life story by Veronica Henry, set in Autumn in Pennfleet, England and it is truly an absolutely delightful story. Veronica Henry stories are always cozy, charming, and feel-good, with eclectic, interesting characters and an appealing small town.

We primarily follow three characters. Kate lives in New York City and has a very demanding job. When her mother dies, she returns to Pennfleet for the funeral and to go through the house and prepare it to be sold. She finds a mysterious letter while going through her mother’s belongings and it reveals a poignant surprise. Along the way, she finds love, renews a friendship, and finds out what she truly wants from her life.

We also follow Sam who is raising his two children on his own after his wife’s tragic accident and subsequent death. He makes the bold decision to leave London and his hectic, stressful life and move to a small town with a close community. We seem him forge a new life for his family and find love again. Finally, we have Vanessa, who loses her much older husband, has to deal with his contentious family, and figure out how to move forward with a life that brings her joy.

High Tide, like Veronica Henry’s other stories, has a strong sense of community and impactful themes, such as death, dementia, family bonds, friendships, living life to the fullest and embracing the life you want. Her stories have a slower, quiet pace, but they are not boring. They are insightful, thought-provoking and pure joy to read. I loved High Tide and look forward to reading everything this author has penned.

This is the first novel which I've had the pleasure of reading by Veronica Henry and oh, what a novel to begin with! High Tide was everything that the gorgeous cover would suggest; an agreeable number of engaging characters whose lives begin to intermingle within the charming setting of Pennfleet, which was brought to life beautifully for me.

The first thing that became apparent to me when I began reading High Tide was the author's style. There's something comforting about it, which draws you in and allows you to settle down and feel right at home. Despite having never met Veronica's characters in High Tide previously, it didn't take long for me to become familiar with them. Veronica's cosy descriptions and winning way with words, as well as her neat rounding up of her characters' lives and personalities, meant I didn't once find myself struggling to pin-point who was who, which has happened to me many times before now when reading a multi-narrative novel.

With each chapter change, I was moved on to a new character and the excitement of doing so didn't lessen throughout the entirety of this novel. I thoroughly enjoyed being introduced to Kate, Sam, Nathan, Vanessa and Mary, as well as Sam's children! Each character brought their own unique sense of warmth and colour to the plot, bringing this novel completely to life before my very eyes. The separate stories for each character held me captive, especially Vanessa's which I couldn't wait to see the consequences of. Each time the author whisked me away to a new character, it was incredibly easy to pick up from where I'd left them last, making my reading of High Tide all the more enjoyable.

What also appealed to me was the setting of Pennfleet. If, like me, you adore seaside towns which are positively bursting at the seams with charm and character then you, too, will love Pennfleet. Veronica's imagery and skill at teasing my senses brought the setting beautifully to life for me. I felt as if I was skipping down those streets myself, breathing in the salty sea air and gazing lovingly at my surroundings. It truly was the perfect place for a story like High Tide to be set. A novel full of heart and feeling, chance and new beginnings, and not forgetting friendship. I loved watching the separate lives unfold within this book, even more so when they began to leak into each other like run-away ink. It was exciting, to see how the characters would affect each other when they finally crossed paths and I found myself hurrying through to see where they eventually ended up, and with who.

Overall, High Tide by Veronica Henry was a gorgeously addictive read, set in Pennfleet which I fell in love with completely. The characters were wonderful, their paths even more so, and I wouldn't mind in the slightest if I were to return to Pennfleet in the future to catch up with these characters again. In just a small amount of time, the author manages to include every aspect of these characters' most life-changing moments and it was beautiful. Becca's Books is awarding High Tide by Veronica Henry with FOUR GORGEOUS CUPAKES! Warm, captivating, and oozing with coastal charm.

Who cannot wish to swept away to Cornwall with the author Veronica Henry who weaves so much between the covers of her books that you actually feel that you are there living it all with the characters.

High Tide is no different and is the wonderful new novel from this author.

Kate is on a flying visit to Pennfleet where she grew up as a child, she is there to clear her parents house out, and attend her mother's funeral. Life is very different in this quiet yet touristy part of Cornwall. nothing like the, stressful life she has been living in America. Is Kate being swept back to her home and the past?

Sam is starting again in a deli he listens to the locals and visitors as they unburden their troubles but with two teenagers and no hint of romance it seems that Sam has enough to be getting on with. However his teenage children have other ideas.

Nathan a local lad, happy with what he does, where he lives and the life he leads makes his money running picnics on his fishing boat as well as turning his hand to anything that comes along. This includes working for the local funeral director, but when some behaviour which could be frowned upon happens with a recent rich widow, it seems that Nathan has suddenly stopped being happy.

As always, the book is packed full of characters and additionally in this novel is the wonderful setting of Pennfleet which the author brings to life. I was drawn in to walk down the lane where Kate lived, to eat with Sam in his Deli and perhaps have the opportunity to meet the gorgeous Nathan in the local pub.

I cared for these characters, they are having to deal with death in many different ways, some recently and some long forgotten. However they are also dealing with life and the many changes it can bring and embracing them all can perhaps make for a better future.

The future I want is perhaps to return to Pennfleet and catch up with these characters and see how they are all getting on now they have made their choices? No pressure to Veronica Henry then!

High Tide is published on 24 September in paperback and kindle.

Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for allowing me to read this book.

How I have gone through my reading life without coming across Veronica Henry is a mystery to me. What a treat this was! From the synopsis, I thought there were going to be too many names and I wouldn't know who was who but after a few chapters I felt like one of the residents!

Despite being such a sad occasion for Kate, it was fascinating to read about her discarding her New York armour and slipping back into her Cornish life. It was really sad when Kate was clearing out the house but there were lovely memories attached to each item that she found, which reminded her of who she is. Her boss in New York was awful, hassling her to come back to work when she should have been allowed peaceful bereavement leave. I kept mentally shouting "turn the phone off" and "tell him to stick his job". I just thought it was a shame that Kate was spending time in Pennfleet without her Mum, making me think that we should make the effort to visit our loved ones and appreciate them while they are here. Perhaps a morbid thought from me, but the book is definitely about life not death.

Vanessa has a funeral for her husband on the same day as Kate's mother's funeral. It was good to see the comparison between the two - one being a celebration of life and the other being an excuse for a party and to see what's been left in the will. I didn't doubt that Vanessa loved her husband but she never really knew what it meant to be happy. Until she met Nathan... Nathan sounded absolutely yummy - rugged and thoughtful - I had to keep reminding myself he wasn't real.

I really enjoyed Sam's story too. I thought he might have been a love interest for Kate at the beginning but he didn't get much page coverage in the first half of the book, so I thought there must be other plans for him. He has a lovely little family and it is clear how much they love and help each other following their own personal heartache.

I felt really bad for enjoying this so much with two funerals going on! I loved every single one of the characters in this book; I was swept away just like Frank Cooper and similarly I hope to return to Pennfleet one day. You'll just have to read the book to find out who Frank Cooper is. Meanwhile, I'm off to the library for more of Veronica Henry's books!

I received this book from the publisher, Orion, in exchange for an honest review.

Pennfleet is a small Cornish town where people are close. Kate has returned from New York for a short stay because of her mother's funeral. She unexpectedly passed away and Kate regrets not spending more time with her parents. She has to clean the house and get it ready to sell. Pennfleet is offering her the comfort she needs so much and even though she's sad she's also happy to be back.

Sam is the owner of a new deli in Pennfleet. He's made a huge career switch and fortunately it was a good one. He's a widower who's trying to make something of his life again. He has two teenage children and they all love to live in Pennfleet. When his daughter falls in love with someone who has a troubled past Sam has to come up with a strategy.

Vanessa's lost her husband. He's left her a big house and money, but she is feeling uncomfortable with it all. Their marriage was quite unusual and she always went along with everything. Now she has to make her own decisions and that isn't easy. Especially when she meets Nate. He's almost half her age and she instantly likes him. He seems to like her back, but there is no future for them. Or is there?

High Tide is a wonderful book with a lot of interesting main characters. I instantly cared about all of them and couldn't wait to find out what would happen in their lives. I really enjoyed reading about the small and interesting town. Veronica Henry manages to make it come to life so well. I love to read about people's journeys. Sam, Kate, Vanessa and Nathan are all having a difficult time, but they're also strong and kind people, which made me like them straight away. I wanted them all to find some happiness. I couldn't put the book away and kept reading until I knew exactly what would happen to them. I'm always very happy when a book makes me feel that way. I highly recommend this amazing story with its multitude of warmth and character.

4.5 stars for this well written heart-warming romantic read.

Veronica Henry is a master at writing a whole host of characters and small stories that don't always link up or cross paths, but have something in common. High Tide revolves around people in the fictional Cornish town of Pennfleet (which fans of Veronica Henry may remember from 'The Long Weekend'). It's such a charming and relaxing seaside town that I'd really love to live in, but for now, I'm going to have to enjoy the Cornish coast through books like this.

It follows the lives of too many characters to list here, as they deal with what drama life throws at them. Grief and death, friendship, family and love. There's a running theme of overcoming obstacles, whatever they may be, starting fresh and embracing the things you can. Despite there being many characters, I felt they were all realistic, all easy to empathise with as they deal with their own problems in a touching way, with the town itself being treated almost like a character with personality too.

It is a light-hearted look at life and death, at coping with grief, yet moving on, at setting the past behind you and looking to the future. A romantic heart-warming read that had me smiling despite the melancholy aspects of losing someone close to you. Veronica Henry has a wonderful way of telling the stories of multiple people, engaging me in the lives of all of them, without ever feeling lost or confused. It's a simple set of intertwined stories for sure - not mind blowing or too exciting - but a sweet, moving, quick and easy read that left me smiling, which I really needed right now!

My thanks go to Orion Publishing Group and Veronica Henry for the advanced review copy of this novel.

I really enjoyed the setting of Pennfleet. Having been a working port once, it is now popular with the wealthy and tourists in the summer so there is a mixture of incomers as well as those born and raised in this small town. I found it easy to imagine myself here.

A couple of our characters backstories are revealed which tugs on the heartstrings and made me feel emotional! I was already invested in what happened before they're revealed so this only made me feel for them more! There's transformation in the lives of more than one character too.

Kate lives in NY and is home for her mother, Joy's, funeral and is assaulted by guilt and memories. Vanessa is the outsider, not only in the family she married into but also her own mother. Mary is her housekeeper and is hiding something from those around her. Nathan has crossed that invisible divide between wealth and working for a living. Single parent Sam has moved to Pennfleet to run his deli. I loved his children Daisy and Jim! Alexa is an artist and has moved away from London with her brood.

Intrigue comes in the form of an anonymous phone call and unexpected find. And I wanted to know what had a character found out that made her tremble! Rupert Malahide brings conflict with his history in Pennfleet and the reputation he has. Both Nathan and Rupert are HOT leads :)

I loved how the plot interconnects, weaving around five characters ...

High Tide is such a feel good story. Perfect to curl up with on these Autumn and Winter evenings.

I would like to thank the publishers for approval via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I love Veronica Henry’s writing style- you join her with the characters and settings and really feel you are in amongst them. Set on Cormwall- what more could you ask from a book? I can’t wait for a follow up to this one!
Kate returns from her high flying but stressful job to attend her mum’s funeral and clear out the family home. She imagines only a fleeting visit to Penfleet in Cornwall. When she finds a letter amongst her mother’s things she needs to find out more.
I loved the relationships in the book. Sam who runs the deli along with his children, who try to sort his life out for him. I also liked the story between Nathan and Vanessa.
I loved the cover, which would have drawn me to the book had I not been given a copy in exchange for a review. It had everything I could ask for from a book and more- I really did not want to get to the final few pages!

This is the first book I have read by this author and will be reading more as really enjoyed it with excellent story lines and greta characters and made you wonder what would happen to each character. Kate has planned a flying visit home as her mother has died and she needs to be home for the funeral and in the same little village three is Vanessa who has lost her husband but now her husband has passed away she can have the most fun she has had for a long time and then there is Sam with his two teenagers who moves as he's lost his wife can all of them find love and happiness with in the village or is there to be upset.

This was a lovely summer read. Personally for me it was a subject close to my heart and I felt very much for Kate having experienced similar and some of her descriptions and feelings actually brought tears to my eyes. I loved the sound of Penfleet you could almost imagine being there. All the characters were good just enough without being too many. And how I wish life did have such an ending. High Tide is a gentle read set in Pennfleet Cornwall. There is no explosive plot in this book, it is more about new beginnings after two funerals. Veronica Henry has a lovely style of writing with vivid descriptions. High Tide includes memories of growing up in the 70s and 80s that will resonate with women in their 40s and 50s.

In this story, Kate returns home from New York for her mother’s funeral. She remembers how things were from her childhood as she notices all the changes to the fishing village since the rich have moved in. She reconnects with old friends and starts to sort out her mother’s affairs.

There is another storyline running at the same time with Vanessa, a young widow who runs an art/gift shop in the village. She was married to a rich businessman and has his family to deal with in the aftermath of his death. Thankfully she has an ally in her husband’s assistant.

As is often the case Veronica Henry introduces lots of other characters but her books are so easy to read you don’t lose track of who’s who. I enjoyed all the characters and wanted to know what happened to them all.

It was a pleasant story, perfect for a beach read or lazy Sunday afternoon. I felt that this could have been the start of a series as it felt more like an introduction to the characters of Pennfleet who all might have their own story to tell.
