Meh- I'm not going to spend a whole lot of time on this review because it wasn't terrible and it wasn't great. It was basically pretty flat all around.

The beginning was really good because it is where all the conflict seems to be, or at least all the interesting conflict, but it soon starts to peeter out.

My biggest beef is that I never really felt that Colin was tormented. When we finally (sort of ) discover his "secret past" it seemed trivial and lame.

Except for the beginning, there really was little conflict, even in the end it was just cartoonish, with the "bad guy" being just too ridiculous.. I mean, even down to his shrill and maniacial laughter.

Literally by the end I just wanted it to end.

The hero was perfect although I would have liked him to be a bit more tormented. The heroine was kind of wishy washy and should have held her character traits longer.

This book could have been 1/2 the length and it appeared the author struggled to add filler with a parrallel love developing between two secondary characters.

The ending was rushed and uninteresting--blase.

I'd skip it

Colin MacAlistair flees England to make sure he can be worth the love of Eve Weston's and also to get away from the man that he thought was his Father Lachlan MacAlister, the only thing he left was a not for the love of his life, Three years pass before he finally returns home.
Eve Weston’s faith and love in Colin was shattered when he vanished. She did survive she becomes strong and betrothed.
Follow their adventure as they fight each others feelings and how they come to find out that love is indeed a strong bond. Other characters are back from the 1st story well writen and lovely to follow.

So I'm not reading these in order and you really don't have to. Tracy Goodwin is a great author. Each book is full of great detail and wonderful word choices. The first book I read was actually the third in the series Skilled at Seduction and it haunted me. The second book I read was the first one and it was good too perhaps not as good as the other one but it held my interest.

This one was harder to finish, well written and an incredible story I just felt both Colin and Eve lacked something I can't put my finger on. Colin ran away and joined the army and fought as I suppose a mercenary, it was never fully revealed just hinted at but he seemed fine. He wasn't haunted or dark just seemed like your everyday member of the ton. Nothing really exciting about him. Eve I just didn't like. She had potential but to go get betrothed to the love of your life's brother? That's cold woman lol! And how she lashed out at others, sorry she can be a real you know what. I wanted to like her so desperately too. With her own business and growing up in the ton but poor.

I'm excited to read the next one however, it's the fourth one lol!

I enjoyed this story. I think it was a bit better than the first story in the series. Less angst and misunderstanding. I liked Eve and Colin. They were both strong characters and had some good chemistry together. There was a couple of nicely written sex scenes. Not over the top just nice.
Good Story, Good Narration by Susan Duerden (audible whispersync review)
The story line and plot was good. Interesting and there was a little bit of mayhap with a villain which is always good to have in a story. There is lots of dialogue. However, there were a bit too many internal thoughts going on which brought the story down a star. A little less internal thoughts is better in my opinion.

As for the narration, I am a Susan Duerden fan. She reads with emotion, the men sound like men, the women sound lovely and everyone gets their own distinct voice. She has a nice reading voice too.

I got this book as a free read with my KU subscription and 1.99 audible version, so it was a great deal for sure!

Three years have passed since Colin left Scotland , and his brother and sister behind. He also left behind the woman he intended to marry. Eve has loved Colin for as long as she can remember, but after tragic loss, and fearing his death , she turns to his younger brother Tristan. Colin has many demons to fight, a war that has left him battered, and a secret or two that eats at his soul. This is book two of a very good series. Everyone from the first book is back, that had not perished, and you get to catch up on Sabastian, Gwen, Fiona, and Victoria. It also sets up the next novel. I really like this series, although she can be a bit wordy , her characters, and storyline are solid. This book also has an evil interloper, that threatens Eve, and Colin. A new character named Logan is introduced, and I really like him. I feel it is better to start any series with the first book, especially this series where everyone seems to be connected in some way. I loved the ending, and am hoping for good things for Tristan, and Victoria. The books each have an ending, which I love. No cliff hangers.

The book was a pretty good read. It sets up the next book really well but it can also be read as a stand alone. If you read this novel as a stand alone you will have several characters to learn and keep track of who is related to who. The characters were an assortment of personalities. I would recommend giving this story a try.

Complicated and filled with intrigue

It took me a few starts before I was able to get into this book and as I had read the previous one in the series several months before, it was a little hard going. Once I got into it, I enjoyed it and will be looking forward to reading the next in the series. Not sure if it is only the digital version, but I had a few typos and layout issues.

This is a story of second chances and redemption. Colin returns home after his father's death to claim his inheritance. An inheritance that really doesn't belong to him, but legally is by marriage. Eve, he left behind after secretly being betrothed to her. Reclaiming Eve will break his family apart, but the passion between these two cannot be denied. This story runs through all the ramifications of taking what you want. The way to redemption is a long and painful road, and love is necessary to traverse it. The plot is smooth and it gets a little twisted, but keeps you turning the pages to find out what happens to this family and how this couple will survive the evil that lurks at their door.

Wow! Amazing story, superbly written!

Colin is the brother of Gwen (from the first book) and this is the story of his second chance romance with Eve. The emotions run high in this intense love story, but the love these two keep denying will win out in the end.

This book is as good as the first book in this interconnected series, with terrific characters that you'll not soon forget. The writing is sharp, the storyline is full of surprises and tremendous heart, and the HEA is as satisfying as it is thrilling. I highly recommend this book and the series.

Almost good

I believe the plot and characters were interesting if somewhat less than fascinating. There was a possibility for a truly unique storyline if both couples resolved their romantic problems rather than just one couple. There was a specified dynamic already in place. It would have provided depth as the current dialogue is naive and shallow.

Web of lies

Another great book written by Tracy Goodwin! Colin and Eve were in love. Then Colin finds out the lies and secrets that could ruin his marriage and lives. He leaves and does not come home until three years later. Lots of things happen in this story that the story needs to be read.

A very good story

Colin disappeared and Eve spent a great deal of money to locate him. When she couldn't find him she became engaged to his brother, then Colin returns and sets her world upside down. A stolen kids in the moonlight ruins her life when her fiance sees Eve and Colin kidding. Colin is determined to marry Eve, even though she has her doubts. Somewhere in the background is a mysterious man that wants to kill her and Colin. What transpires is a story of hatred, love and passion. This is a very good book, well worth reading.
