Richard My family is divided, some say we were gifted by the gypsies to prosper and know our soul mate, others feel we were cursed. The divide in the family may have a little to do with the gypsies forgetting to mention that when we Silverman find our soul mate we turn into possessive cavemen.
I also thought it was a gift and was filled with jealously when my cousin Stephan found his other half though he believed it to be a cures. But now it’s my turn, the only problem is Bailey Rodgers thinks I’m crazy, overbearing and egotistical.
Bailey
My brother Ethan, my guardian since I was six, was finally loosening the reigns and giving me some freedom. Being vision impaired and the only family left, he sometimes took his role as protector too far. I’d convinced Ethan to let me celebrate graduation with a week-long holiday just friends sun and fun.
The start of my holiday didn’t start out at all how I had planned when I was kidnapped by a crazy guy telling me I was his soul mate and his to keep forever. Imagine my surprise to learn he is a Silverman and supposedly sane. Richard wants me to give him a chance, but I don’t know if I can handle Richard’s overprotectiveness. I already had that with my brother and I didn’t want it in my relationship.

Other than one tiny thing that annoyed me in the beginning, Richard was perfect! I loved him in all his caveman glory. However, I. ABSOLUTELY. HATED. BAILEY. WITH. A. FUCKING. PASSION. She was a brat and did not deserve Richard. She fought it almost the whole book and at one point he says he gives up trying to please her and all I could think of was THANK GOD! Find someone else. But HE is the one who goes back to her and apologizes. She was one of the worst heroines I've ever read about. I wanted to throat punch her and honestly started skimming her POV. I was ready to be done with this book.
So you safety ladies, she makes out with a boy who she kept telling Richard was her boyfriend and he even puts his hands down her panties and touches her. All this after Richard has claimed her. (No sex yet though) Then breaks up with Toby but doesn't tell Richard for a few days. Damn...even just typing this I want to strangle her.
5 "Awesome caveman stars" for Richard Negative "As many as I can have stars" for Bitch Bailey. So I guess 2.5 total..
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Richard Silverman's family has what they call a curse, they never settle unless they find their one true soul mate. Sounds wonderful right, the little part of turning into a caveman though can backfire and scare their intended to be. Richard is on the brink of turning thirty and he is frustrated that he will never find his girl.
Bailey Rodgers has been raised under the protective eye of her brother after her parents died. Vision impaired, he has shadowed her every move. Now Bailey wants to go vacation before starting University and he sends her with his girlfriend's obnoxious daughter. Things could be better, but Bailey makes the most of her time with friends and boyfriend. The whole boyfriend thing though she questions as it feels more like a friend than anything. That is until she is kidnapped by Richard who lets her know he is his mate. Bailey though has no clue what he is talking about other than thinking he needs to be in a mental hospital.
With guilt surrounding breaking up with boyfriend and growing feelings for Richard, Bailey is confused. As she decides to see what she feels with Richard she is inundated when bikers are trying to destroy the Silverman's and she is thrown in with Richard's family. Can a young woman easily adapt to a new life or is it pushing her away?
This was very entertaining. Richard is pure caveman, he just looses all sensibilities. His mother though is in a league of her own and I wanted to throttle her. I liked Bailey and thought with Richard she was really sweet but I could understand the feelings she was fighting with. Very good second book in series.
Not really as good as the first one. The heroine is partly blind and she is a little heavy. The hero is a hot guy manwhore who slept around a lot and meets and kidnapped the heroine and I thought this was going to be so good! Turns out, it's not! He caves in on everything that she wants. He acts like a caveman yes but doesn't fallow through on it. It was a very disappointing read. I gave it two stars because of the hero who was WAY WAY TOO GOOD for the heroine. I wished the other males in this family would have their own books. They may be more alpha and not take any bullsh*t from the heroine. I would read them. This one is NOT a keeper UNFORTUNATELY. Oh well, can't wait to read the next book in this series.
I tried this book TWO times, and it just didnt work for me. Yes, i get the second time farther than before, but anything changed. The h is still fucking doormat and H is still an ass. And the writing...God, what the fuck?! I though im prepared for that after i read Stephan... Nope.
I really can't believe I'm actually giving this low of a review on a book by this author. I absolutely love EVERY book this author has ever written. However, this one I am lucky I stuck it out and finished. I was so excited for the second book in this series after reading Stephen, that I have to say I'm kind of hesitant to even try and read the next one.
The MC Bailey just really rubbed me the wrong way in this book. She led on two different men at the same time. I'm sorry, but she's all "I'm 18, I'm Miss Independent, I do what I want" but yet you can't get a man to leave you along that you don't want, or let a boy kiss you and feel on you because you feel bad for leading him on? Uh NO! Bailey as a character was just so mixed up that her attitude towards people and situations gave me whiplash.
Richard was almost as bad as Bailey. How are you going to get mad at a girl you just met having a bf when you just had a woman in your bed the previous night?!? I understand he's suppose to be "Me Tarzan, You Mine", but it just went beyond almost to obsessive and stalker-ish.
I wish I could say there was something I liked about this book, but if I did, I would be lying.
I'm a bit disappointed with this book. I really enjoyed book one, this one is good too, but it is very repetitive. Editing issues out the wazoo and tense switches like crazy.
The underlying story is good. The characters are great, if not slightly over the top. Bailey's impaired vision made it hard to reconcile how easily she got around most of the time and how she consistently mentioned looking at his handsome face or how beautiful this or that was. I think that aggravated me more than editing problems. To explain how impaired she is then not show it throughout the book and only at points where it's being used for dramatic effect was detrimental to character development.
Overall, I enjoyed the alpha tendencies that comes with being a Silverman... Three stars and three wet panties.
I LOVE the premise of this series! This book took a long time to come out and I really hope Ms. Gower doesn't make us wait so long again for the next one. I was worried when the first 25%-35% of the book showed a gentle patient H. But then we see the caveman come out a number times and (sigh) I loved it. I wish there were more contemporary stories with Hs like the one in this series. I really hope the next book is about Ryder and not Dustan. We learned in this book that the older you are when you find your mate the worse the caveman behaviors. Dustan insulted a girl before he discovered that she is his mate and now she hates him. I guess that sounds interesting but Ryder is the oldest so him discovering his mate will make a more CAVEMAN H.
I absolutely love the concept of this series. And the first book was awesome. There was heaps I loved in this book but I think since I had forgotten a bit (all) of the drama from the first one I was a little out of the loop. Also the "issues" didn't work for me but I still love the concept and the Silverman curse and I can't wait to meet more cousins, brothers, uncles and such.
As the proofreader for this book, I got to be the very first person to read Richard. This book is a perfect continuation from Stephan, and the characters were brought to life in a fantastic way. Parts of the story had me almost wetting my pants with laughter. I recommend this book to anyone who is a romantic at heart.
Oh man oh man, what I would have me a Silverman. Richard is getting older and hasn't found his soulmate. He thinks he's getting older and won't find her but seeing her by the water he is stuck with the overwhelm to protect her and hide her. Bailey is having a mini vacation but leave it to her older brother to be nearby watching to see if she is safe. Bailey is going to be 18 soon and feels like he needs to let her do what she wants then she meets Richard and all goes downhill. He wants to see her every second but knows he needs to slow down with her and not scare her off. These two are cute, I love the Silverman and how protective an possessive they are when finding their ONE. while the last name is known around town they know protect is needed and will go at all cost protect their loved ones.
If you’re in the mood for a real Caveman type of hero, you can’t go wrong with this book. These Silverman men are the very definition of Caveman! And how could you resist that slick cover? (I couldn't)
Thumbs UP
I love a crazy alpha-male Hero, and they don’t come much more crazy than Richard. He literally kidnaps his woman, moments after he first laid eyes on her. I thought it was a hoot how out of control he got when the Gypsy Curse kicked in!
Bailey was so sweet and innocent, and a heroine you can’t help but like. I particularly liked the fact she’s not a stick-thin blonde with the face of a goddess. She’s pretty, but no supermodel. She has curves, she’s vivacious with boobs for days, and is vision impaired to boot. I loved her imperfections, as they made her unique.
I can’t wait to read more about the Silverman men. I have yet to read the first book in this series, but I am keen to get started on Stephan’s book after seeing how hard these guys fall. I am particularly eager to read more about Ryder, and Mason’s brothers too. I hope Ryder meets his mate soon.
I liked that their physical relationship wasn’t drawn out, as I expected it to be. It made their fast growing feelings more believable.
Thumbs DOWN
When I stripped the story down, there really wasn’t a lot to it. There were hints of danger, as a result of what happened in the first book in this series. There was even an attempted shooting. But it all brushed over quickly, and I don’t feel it added much to the story. The book really was mostly made up of Richard trying to win over Bailey, and Bailey trying to come to accept the new, insane, man in her life. Not necessarily a bad thing to have such little drama, but it didn’t particularly make the story memorable.
I started tiring of the Gypsy story. I heard about the Gift/Curse way too many times, as it was constantly discussed between the Silverman family and in Richard’s inner monologue. I got it. I didn’t need to be reminded of it constantly, ya know?
Just a minor thing for the editor: I noticed a lot of grammatical errors throughout the story, which is not normally something I mention, but I saw enough that it started to bother me as I read. It also switched from first person to third person narrative at random, in the middle of a paragraph. That happened a few times.
Final Thoughts
This book reads well as a standalone if, like me, you haven’t read the first book in this series. I would recommend this if story if you’re after a quick read, that features an ultra possessive Hero and an adorable young heroine.
After reading the first in the series (Stephan), I kinda knew what to expect - some amusing OTT alpha antics (the titular Caveman Instinct), some resistance from the object of his affections, rather inconsistent leads, and more typos and editing errors than you can shake a stick at. It lived up to expectations. Just OK, and rounded up to that.
Richard (H) is a Silverman waiting for his one, wishing to start a family. He spies Bailey (h) at the hotel pool, and recognizes who she is to him. Unfortunately there are more than a few hurdles to clear first - not the least of which are her vision problems and restrictions, the big age difference, and the drug-running MC with a vendetta against the Silvermans.
Jade was a frustrating h in book 1, and Bailey was frustrating here for totally different reasons. She was weirdly "I want to be independent - I'm 18 and an adult now!" and yet also caving into Richard on all sorts of stupid stuff (like the ending: ). She will literally never be independent and on her own, like she keeps saying she wants. She's going directly from having her brother look after things to having Richard. And don't get me started on the Toby love triangle nonsense - first leading Toby and Richard on, and then letting Toby still be all possessively touchy-feely even after breaking up.
And not really Bailey's fault - more the author's - but did she ever really seem held back by being vision impaired? Just the trips to the mall? Otherwise, it seemed like she got around very well, was always commenting on Richard's looks, not really talking about adaptations or how tired she was about dealing with everything... It felt like the author would forget that the character had this trait, and was just writing her as "normal" most of the time. I've read other books with handicapped or challenged leads (yes, even one with a blind h), and you can actually see that, while still functional, they do have to adjust their lives and their surroundings. It can make for really good character development, if incorporated correctly.
And I wasn't crazy about Richard. He kinda weirded me out a little in book 1 when he hit on Jade - a 29 year old at a high school party, flirting with a 17 year old. Here, he's claiming a just-barely-18-year-old. I don't mind an age difference in itself, per se, but there's a whole boatload of growing up done between ages 18 and 30, and it kinda pushes my view of the romance. It can be done well, if the h has the maturity to match him and he is prepared to support her as she does all that growing up. You know, if there's actually some chemistry and they seem to balance each other. As mentioned above, Bailey was really young and naive in a lot of ways, so that just didn't work.
Going along with weirdnesses, why did no one stand the F up to Gillian?????? There's being excited about finally having a wedding in the family, but then there's her. She's "well-meaningly" critical about everything - Bailey's underwear isn't right?? And Bailey (and everyone else) just rolls with it??? She lets this strange woman put her in heels and a dress to go clothes shopping, even though she's unstable and cautious when she walks in unknown areas, but lets herself be steamrolled over?? This is her own physical well-being we're talking about! Then the first real conversation Gillian has with Bailey, and she is pushing about babies???? Bailey literally turned 18 in the last month, has just barely graduated high school, and Gillian is pressuring for grandbabies. Creepy and overbearing. Richard actually stands up to her, after her overwhelming shopping trip sent Bailey to the hospital, but then he's the one who has to apologize?? Why do they all let her do this? Personal boundaries and paying attention to others' physical well-being shouldn't fall by the wayside just because you're rich as Croesus.
Like in the first book, the pacing was weird. Apparently, that's how this author structures her stories? Almost an episodic feel, like no real big climax. Lots of little events, then things would settle, then another pick-up... more like waves that a typical story structure. And these little story arcs wouldn't ever appear again, just underdeveloped threads left hanging. Like Bailey's tormentor - disappears after those first few scenes never to be heard of again. Or the drug issues at Richard's clubs? And then we spend forever on Jade and Stephen's wedding, even though this isn't their book. Toby was really the only story arc that came around and had closure.
And yes, still an editing nightmare. The editing was atrocious - so bad, it was seriously like a rough draft. Interestingly, it was sorta different errors than the first book. Like, there were still a boatload of POV errors, mistakenly shifting from 1st to 3rd person. In book 1, I counted at least 11 times (I got frustrated and started highlighting on my Kindle), and here, there were more examples than that in the first 1/3 of the book. So that got worse. And that's basic proofreading - he or him instead of me or I. Still lots of homophone errors and one-letter typos (where/were, etc). My favorite was the cop cousin Ryder working in a "prescient." A few sentences that were so disorganized and out of order, I honestly had no idea what they were saying. Punctuation was a mess - commas and periods and apostrophes missing or extra all over the place. Seriously, please learn how to use commas! It will help the clarity so much!! Words missing too at times, though that had improved since book 1. Still no sense of how to make a word plural vs possessive. "Silverman's" is not plural!! I was highlighting, and not even highlighting everything (I gave up on some of the oft-repeated errors), and I still had over 120 notes. This was not ready for final publication. And crazily enough, she thanks an editor??
Alternating 1st person POV. Love triangle and minor OM drama with Bailey's high school boyfriend. She's "just friends" with Richard until after they break up, so technically no cheating. He's a pretty ridiculous manwhore before seeing Bailey ("wash the skank off him"??), but nothing after they meet. OTT alpha antics - just what you expect from the description. A little weird feeling to the story at times, with the big age difference and how annoyingly young Bailey is. But honestly, straight-out difficult to read with all the incredibly poor editing and proofreading. HEA but no epilogue.
Would I read more in the series? Maybe. The characters and story set-ups look interesting, and it's kinda funny watching the alphas fall for their one (though I'd prefer if the hs from here out had more spine than Bailey). It still doesn't look like the editing gets any better as the series goes on, so, maybe if it was free or super-sale, I might give it a chance, but there are other books I'd rather read first.
I like the concept of this series. The "knowing at first sight" soul mates with the strong alpha males. I liked that the heroine of this story had a vision impairment. I don't normally have a big issue with the older man younger woman concept but I do feel more comfortable with an age gap below thirteen years between them. Richard is 11 years older than Bailey, so normally I would be ok with that but actually found myself a little uncomfortable with this one. He has just turned 29 at the beginning of this story (we find out later his birthday is February) and then the story seems to skip ahead to about mid November and Bailey is about to turn 18, so he is actually closer to 30 and therefore almost 12 years older. There is a lot of growing up to do between the age of 18 and even early to mid twenties let along late 20's/early 30's. Richard also was pretty much a complete prick to the women he had one night stands with but all of a sudden he's worshiping the ground one young woman walks on...and he's a complete nutter Neanderthal about it too. I basically liked and enjoyed the story. I like the alpha males of the Silverman family. I actually hope poor Uncle Carl comes across his mate and all the other guys too. I would love it if one of the guys ended up fathering a girl...maybe twins of one boy one girl. Even the security guys make me want to see them get a girl. I'm hoping that not all the stories in this series feature girls that are 18 or 19. I'm hoping some are older, early to mid twenties, something like that. I would recommend reading this series in order.
Not sure if this book went under editing but the errors were surely glaring. I bet it was supposed to be written in the first person, but it seems the author also used the third person pronouns and sandwiched it with the first person sentences. Really freaking bothers me because I noticed it from the first chapter up to the last.
And am I the only one who follows the rule for age gap romances to be half plus seven (i.e. in this case Richard's 29 so Bailey should have been 22 instead of 18) or you think love knows no age? But whatever. This is an okay book, but I prefer Stephan's book more.
Loved, Loved, Loved this. Richard and Bailey truly a great pairing. Although their is an age gap they make it work. So far Richard is by far the most Alpha/Caveman that I have ever read about. He at times is so funny trying to control this and then letting it out. The story was great with several different surprises along the way. Can't wait to read who finds their one/soul mate next and how they react to it. This series is a must read!
I tried i really did try but jesus christ there is only so much someone can take. What the fuck was with the writing? it seemed like something someone from the 8th grade would write for homework while on a one day rush. It was fucking horrendous.
This book is utter drivel. It had the potential for a cool story. I like the angle of someone being blind, and I like the concept of soul mates. Sadly, all that potential was wasted. I didn't finish it for the following reasons:
The "hero", although I hesitate to call him such, is such a cockhead, I struggle to see anything redeemable in his character. We're introduced to him shouting and abusing his employees, and then waking up to a woman he brought home and complaining about what a "skank" and a slut she is. He goes so far as to say he needs a new bed, to make sure it's clean after a skank was in it. YOU brought her home and had sex with her. This whole thing is on YOU. She's no more sexually promiscuous than you are, but she's a skank and you're a rich arsehole with a heart of gold? I don't think so. I hate this stupid attitude to sex in books like these; these dumbshit 'hero' men hate women who are sluts and 'fake' but also simultaneously want to benefit from sluts with fake tits having sex with them. Well, you don't get to have it both ways, hypocrits. Richard also treats Bailey like some kind of pet. He literally sees her at a swimming pool, picks her up kicking and screaming and kidnaps her away with no explanation to her or her friends, who are basically under the impression that she's about to be murdered (not unreasonably). If you really cared for your soulmate, you wouldn't mentally torture her and her loved ones so that you can get laid. I'd argue, you're not really her soulmate if you did that. You're just a deranged lunatic. I'm going to call Richard a new name from now on; Crazy Dick. Then Crazy Dick tells Bailey, after he KIDNAPS HER, that he'd "never hurt her", and soundly proves his point by hitting her on the arse. Nice logic.
The second biggest problem with this book is Bailey. Bailey is a right idiot. She begs her brother, whose "protective" of her but not so protective that he won't send Bailey's bully on a trip with her, to let her go to Schoolies, and agrees to go with her nemesis Britney (said bully) and then gets upset when Britney is a bitch to her. Well, you knew she was a bitch. You AGREED to go with her. If you were going to be upset that she's mean to you, you should have told your moron brother that you weren't going with her, and that Toby and Isaac would take care of you while you're away. They didn't, of course, because they let you get kidnapped by Crazy Dick, but your brother wouldn't have known that. You made that bed, then didn't want to sleep in it. Well, tough. You should have stood your ground like a strong, independent woman. Bailey also agreed to play a drinking game with Britney, like an idiot, and opened herself up to ridicule and mockery by revealing a personal confession during a drinking game to her BULLY, like an idiot. HOW did you think for A SECOND that that was a good idea??? I don't believe Bailey does a lot of thinking, period. The other problem with Bailey's character, other than her IQ, is the writing around her disability. I like the idea of Bailey being vision impaired, but it's not important to her character at all because the author conveniently forgets that Bailey isn't supposed to see anything. Characters talking to Bailey are described by sight, the colour of their hair, their attractiveness and facial features, their heights, etc. Bailey revealed her fantasy man was a Silverman because she'd "seen all the brothers" and they were "all so attractive". I thought you couldn't see...? Also, something that missed the point in this whole thing is that people who are vision impaired don't generally give a shit about what people look like. Physical attractiveness is a preoccupation of the sighted. I was hoping Bailey would be the opposite of Crazy Dick, someone who looks inside to the person beneath, because that's the only place she can look. Instead, they're both so shallow, and Bailey is blind, except when she isn't, which changes according to convenience and what the plot demands.
Bailey's friends are all useless arseholes.
Britney is, in no universe in existence, modeled after anyone that could be considered a real person.
There is an 11 year age gap, which wouldn't be the worst thing ever, except the main heroine is still just a teenager. A teenager dating a much, much older man smacks of coercion. She's also a sheltered, coddled baby emotionally, which makes their romance wholly inappropriate.
The writing is inconsistent. In one chapter, Bailey is described as curvy, fat and like a "whale", and in another she is described as "tiny". Ethan is concerned for Bailey to be out on her own being blind, but she can bloody well see everything from the colour of someone's eyes to the different shades of hair on his head. Do we need to be concerned for her self-sufficiency, or don't we? Bailey claims to have "seen" all the Silverman brothers and liked them all, but then doesn't recognize Richard (who, again, she can see, even though she can't see...) when he kidnaps her. Well, you've met him haven't you? Did you just randomly forget your "fantasy man"?
So many things wrong in just a short number of pages. I won't be wasting any more time on this garbage. 0 out 5 would recommend.
I SOOOOOOO Want to join this family ..... oh wow ...... seriously this was an fantastic book I loved it and I really do want to join the family lol ..... :)
