This book contains adult content and is intended for mature audiences only. 18+ and over. Thank you.
Updated Version: I loved this book. I'm a fan of Angel Rose's books and this falls in line with her previous writing. I love Jenesis' character and her chemistry with the other characters. Dave is quite the interesting fellow. I am not a fan of Max though. He grates on my last nerve! The sexual chemistry between Jenesis and Michael is just enough and the scenes are well written. I also loved the cases that she finds. Some are quite interesting. Overall another excellent book and I'm excited to read the next!
Jenesis Heart is a young woman that has ghost that creeps into her dreams at night. She quit school at Penn State and headed to New York to try and get rid of these ghost. After the not so perfect childhood she needs the distance to try to heal herself. When she arrives at her new city she finds employment at night with a not so nice detective, Dave Hearns. She has a real distrust in men so doesn't know exactly how to take her new boss. He is rough around the edges and down right rude most of the time. As time goes on, they bound more like a father/daughter relationship. He is like the father she always wished for and Jenesis is like the daughter he never had. She felt protected. There was nothing he wouldn't do for her. Then Jenesis meets Michael Hunter. Michael knows he wants Jenesis . He's never really been about relationships. Their relationship seems to move at a fast pace. All too soon Michael is everything to Jenesis. There's only one problem with her new life the two men in her life have a real dislike towards each other. She just wants them all to get along. It feels as if the life she has made for herself is falling apart and she no longer has control. Broken Heart was a real eye opener for me. This is not my type of normal read. But I was so surprised to find out what a wonderful book this really is and I am totally sold. I enjoyed every minute of it and it kept me guessing. I love Jenesis. She is such a complex character. She has so many different layers, from soft and vulnerable to sticking with her own idea of right. Michael is hot and sexy with a dark shadow around him and Dave is the wild card in the situation. I can't wait until the next book. I would recommend this book to anyone.

This is the first book in the series. Angel Rose is an awesome author this is the first book of hers. I started reading it an had to put it down an get control of my emotions. Jenesis is a broken girl she has had the love of her mother but her father he was the devil. He beat her mother so much during her childhood, abused his daughter calling her names, treating her like she was nothing. Her father was a alcoholic didn't care what he said or who he hurt. Jenesis was at college, she would party to take her mind off the demons that invaded her dreams at night. The night of her birthday she got a visit from the cops informing her of her parents death from a car accident her father was driving drunk. Jenesis found out that her mother had a life insurance policy that would take care of her when she was gone. Jenesis decided to move to NY away from the ghost in Pa. She found a place to live went to work at the police department there an her boss was an older man who looked upon Jenesis as a daughter he never had. She thought of him as a father she loved him as a daughter would love a real father. This story is heartbreaking I cried with Jenesis laughed with her, felt the feelings she was going through. Jenesis met a man Michael on the elevator an then he was a guest speaker at her college. They finally got together an you could feel the love they shared for each other. Her nightmares still followed her, she was seeing a therapist but all wasn't good they kept coming she woke up on the floor more times than in bed. Michael loved Jenesis but he was scared to commit to the relationship he stayed away from her, she thought it was her fault but it was his. He came back pleading with her to give him another chance she did, he finally proposed to her. Her boss an future husband didn't see eye to eye didn't like each other. Jenesis has had a hard time with everything going on in her life she wants them both in her life not just one they both love her. Jenesis finds out she's pregnant doesn't tell Michael then ends up loosing the baby. Michael doesn't believe she didn't know bout it. They had some problems but all is good now. I'm waiting to read second book. Angel Rose keeps you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next. It's riveting to read an sometimes what you think will happen she just shocks you.
Jenesis Heart is a young woman who has had an tragic life. She had to live with the abuse of her mother and herself from her father. On the day after her twenty first birthday she was hit with the worst thing of her life. Her parents died in a car crash. Jenesis decides to move to New York City to run away from her past. There she meets an father figure type when she apply for a job at the police station.
David Hearns is a hot tempered cop that needs help with his office. He grows very fond of Jenesis and starts to treat her as a daughter. While she is in school she sees a gorgeous handsome lawyer that gives an presentation to her class.
Michael Hunter is a successful defense lawyer that sees Jenesis and can't get her out of his mind. Weeks pass and Michael and Jenesis see each other again at an art show where she goes with David.
Jenesis is happy until she realize that Michael and David can't stand each other. Can Jenesis keep the two men she loves or will her heart be broken.
A love a story that has different levels to the storyline. Characters who are broken and hope to redeem themselves. These characters in Broken Heart all have a secret. Their secrets for some hold them back and for others determines how they choose a career.
For a debut novel, Angel Rose, has written a intricate story of how dealing with your past doesn't always mean you will live a happy life. Their are consequences to pay and people who may get hurt along the way. The characters she's portrayed are strong but still allow their emotions to rule them and not always to their advantage. The story, as a whole, does grab you and takes you in; however, I wanted more characterization of the sub-characters.
Scenes were steamy and our main character, Jenesis learns to love but at what price. Stay tuned for book 2 I am definitely looking forward to see where she takes her story.
I stumbled upont his author purely by chance. Searching for a new book to read by following genres on Facebook. When I got BROKEN HEART by ANGEL ROSE I thought okay lets give it a try. Really didn't have much to go on but I am a fast reader so no harm no foul. Very quickly I realized that I had found a wonderful author and book. The characters come alive and your grasping to hold on with every turn of the page. It leaves you heart broken as well as hopeful for what might come next. The characters all have different personalities so the book is always changing direction and keeping the reader on their toes. I had a book hangover two nights in a row. If you have the time and enjoy a romantic, suspenseful book this is a book for you. JENESIS stole my heart and I truly hope she finds what she wants from life.
A complicated story of sorrow, loss, heartbreak. The storyline takes characters who have issues from their past, that in some form prevent them from moving on. Jenesis has survived, gone to college ,trying to keep her demons locked up in her memory. Her world is turned upside down the day a guest lecturer takes over one of her classes. Micheal is sex on legs. She feels something. This is their struggle to connect, slay the turmoil they both have within. A story to be read. A page turner that will have you pulling for the underdog to win.
I really enjoyed Broken Hearts.. Angel Rose has a writing style that keeps you turning the pages..The characters are well written, and the story is second to none..I'm throwing myself into book 2 next, as the cliffhanger has me wondering..I normally wouldn't read a series until it is completed, but come on, this is an Angel Rose book.
First time reading this author work for the very first time. I was really looking forward to reading this, since the synopsis sounded really good. I was only able to get to Chapter 17, before I had to close this book for good. This book is now in the vault! This book is part of a duet and sadly, I cannot continue with this story.
Why you ask?
Well we meet Jenesis and Micheal in this story. Jenesis was abused as a young child by her dad growing up. This made her wary of men. This made her have trust issues with men who wanted to get to know her and date her. Micheal is a top attorney in New York, and a playboy who has good looks, mesmerizing eyes, and is GOD gift to women (his thoughts) which he swears by in the book. He is not looking for a relationship, just someone who can give him a night of fun and then he gets to move on.
Jenesis and Micheal meet for the very first time, as Micheal gave a presentation at a college/university to help students learn a skill for the real world in there future careers. Their eyes meet a cross the room, and it seems, Micheal has to know this young beauty in definitely.
Fast forward.... Jenesis background kept coming up. So may episodes of her remembering what her father did to her as a child. This kept coming up throughout the book, and I kept wondering? When is enough...Enough? She does finally get counseling, but I believe as a reader, we don't need to know EVERYTHING what happens to her. Maybe the author, wanted to fill the pages with words to make this a full length novel?
Also, the characters development was so confusing at times. We had so many side characters popping in the story, you had a hard time connecting to them. This book was edited nicely, but the flow of the story was not there. I could not understand how Micheal was so drawn to Jenesis after a few glances and the dialogue between the two was lacking. Too many characters, too many drama scenes...what could go wrong? Ohhh...I know....a confusing piece of work :(
This book did have potential, but I will let you decide if you give it a chance!
Why did she have to step into that elevator that morning? More importantly, why did I care? In New York City, women are a dime a dozen. They’re good for one thing and they can do it on their backs or on their knees. I’m one of New York City’s top criminal defense lawyers. Compared to keeping the guilty out of prison, talking a woman out of her dress is a piece of cake. I knew the secret, my father taught me well. Use them for your pleasure and let them go before attachment sets in. They always want more. She refused to make it simple. I loved a challenge, but not this one. She was different. I had a past that threatened to resurface if I wasn’t careful. A past that could destroy me. The word relationship wasn’t even part of my vocabulary. Love was someone else’s four-letter word. So how the hell did she make me care? How did she become the only thing that I desired? I knew my touch was poison and I didn’t want to hurt her but, I couldn’t stay away. How can I run away from my past? How can I protect her from all that is evil? She doesn’t know what I’ve done. But now she’s involved, and I have to protect her from the one person that will destroy her…me.
Broken Heart is a romantic suspense that brings you into the lives of Jenesis and Michael. These two very broken people find each other, but will they be able to keep each other? I really enjoyed the writing by the author and am looking forward to starting book two. She really knows how to paint an agonising picture of these two tortured people that you have got to keep reading to see if they ever make it to their happily ever after...will they? Or do their futures hold something different? I'm rooting for these two and how that they find happiness in the end. Looking forward to reading book two to see what happens.
Absolutely loved this book!! Angel really knocks it out of the park with this story. The characters and their back stories are amazing. You get a taste of both Michael and Jenesis younger years. Their personalities very much a reflection of the paths they take. When they meet it is a slow burn for them to come together. The incidents inbetween this coupling is just absolutely amazing and keeps you hanging on to find out what is going to happen next. The cliffhanger ending was jaw dropping, and I can't wait for the next book!! I can't stress this enough, you WANT to read this book! You NEED to read this book, you won't regret it!
Angel Rose has written yet another book that gives you the major feels. Jenesis has gotten the rough side of life at a young age. She leaves for a fresh start. But in getting her fresh start;she gains a father figure in her irascible boss. She also meets love in a bad boy attorney. He doesn't really want to put her in the crosshairs of his past. But sometimes Fate won't be denied. Highly recommend this great read.
Wow! This book was not what I was expecting but I was pleasantly impressed by the romantic suspense and psychological thriller aspect. I enjoyed Jenesis and her flashbacks gave interesting insight into her character. What I enjoyed most was trying to figure out the male characters and what they would do. Who was going to be the villain? Why? Who would be Jenesis’s hero in the end? This book kept me guessing. Now I need to read book 2 Hearts Betrayal ASAP for the answers!
Thank you Angel Rose for this amazing book. It's a story Of Jenesis hart has lived through a horrible and abusive chilhood. She decides to start over and moves to New Yourk. Where she meets David Hearns a toughcop, who becomes like a father figure. Then comes Michael who she falls in love with. Can they make it work. Both are broken. I can't wait for next book in this series. I highly recommend this book. Thank you again Angel Rose
Jenesis grew up in a home with an abusive drunk father. Her parents were killed in an accident due to her father drinking and driving. Shortly after graduating from college she starts working at a police precinct. Michael grew up without a mother. His mother died when he was 6 years old. He's a well known defense attorney. Both of them are scared of the future because of their childhood. Will they ever be able to overcome it.
Wow this is a rollercoaster of emotions, a dark fiction book with twists and turns I really am in a state of aw. I need to read the second book. I need to know what is happening with Michael , Max and Dave and of course Jenesis. There is a lot of action and this is book and it is a real page turner. I recommend this book . If you are in to suspense, dark romance, detective, murder book this is your book to go with.
This book was ok but really confusing and had a lot of editing problems to the point you just have to put the book down. The story was all over the place and things that happened never got resolved and other things were just unrealistic. The characters were all in their own little world and don't really connect to make the story flow. Then it ends with a cliffhanger.
I was sucked in right away and read it one sitting. Who needs sleep? Jenesis and Michael are incredible characters that are both broken and looking for redemption and the person that can help them find it. There are so many twists and turns and mysteries in this book you can't put it down for wanting to know what is going to happen next. I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book!
Great beginning to a series. You get a look into Jenesis and Michaels horrible childhood experiences and see what makes them the way they are today. They are both trying to work on their demons and be better people. They both think they have to many demons in their life to be together but can they ignore the pull they feel towards each other? This book does end on a huge cliffhanger. *Read the second edition of this book.
This story is freaking awesome!!! We have Jenesis who has not had an easy life and now is attracted to a guy, but he has a man targeting women he has been with or around and her boss is not making things easy. This is one awesome rollercoaster ride I can not wait for more!!!
A wonderfully written story. These are very interesting characters. The chemistry is off the charts. I need more Jenesis and Michael! Cant wait to read more!!
This book has potential.. but I it fell flat for me. The characters had no connection at all. They just fell in love with barely knowing each other. Dave is a hot head and is portrayed as a "father figure" but really he felt stalkerish. Max is creepy. Jenisis seems quiet and shy but then sometime she goes off half cocked... Michael is just as stalkerish as Dave and always goes violent when mad.. yes not ok for a person who was in an abusive household.. that's not love.. it's usually a restraining order. I'm sorry to say I can't read book 2. I barely made it through this one.
The first 15% of the book was so emotionally heart wrenching, I wanted to grab our heroine, Jenesis hug her and hide her away. Emotionally she was all over the place, trying to be a normal 21 year old college student all the while dealing with her “monster under the bed”. Sentence to sentence you could feel her struggle. In a word, she was tortured. I thought for sure from this point on, our poor Jenesis would catch a break and get some happy in her life after picking up the broken pieces of her life and moving to New York City and starting a new job. She meets Dave, a police Captain and her boss. She develops a father / daughter relationship with him or what she assumes is a father / daughter relationship since she has actually never had a loving relationship with a father. No, tragedy strikes again, leaving Jenesis once again broken and emotionally torn apart. How much more can this poor girl take? Unfortunately for her, the more the story continues; I felt like, Dave her surrogate father was a lot like her real father; a drunk and a jerk. We meet our leading man, Michael Hunter defense attorney. Jenesis falls head over heels in love. We watch as Jenesis is once again conflicted and torn apart by the two men she loves. Michael and Dave are at odds with one another; a cop and a defense attorney. Both of them pull her in different directions. The whole time I am thinking again, can this poor girl catch a break? Angel Rose does a great job dropping hints that something is defiantly not right with Dave and Michael’s hate fueled encounters. Hints are dropped there is more to their relationship then is being told. This book is not your typical love story, it is packed full of one girl’s tragedy and heart break, throw in a huge side dish of deceit and secrets you have a love story that keeps you guessing. Angel Rose does a great job making you feel the emotional roll coaster our leading lady in on. Michael is not your typical book boyfriend, he is borderline jerk, and again Angel does a great job keeping us wondering if he is a good guy. There was so much going on 85% of this book I was turning pages, thinking to myself “I didn’t see that coming” praying it wouldn’t leave me hanging. However, it did. It ends in a cliffhanger, making me want to run out and grab volume two. The book is fast paced and keeps the book moving along. The only small issue I had with the book moving so fast I felt like I was missing something. There was a lot going on in the beginning of the book with her Aunt Stephanie and an “Uncle” Mike ( who is not really an uncle, but a close family friend) then they just faded away with little explanation. I felt like the where holes in the storyline that could have been filled in. It was a good debut novel. I am looking forward to part two and really hope for Jenesis sake she finds some peace! Angel Rose has written a great female lead that deserves her HEA!
This review is for the second edition of Broken Heart by Angel Rose. The two main characters in this story are Jenesis and Michael. The story starts out with Jenesis at age 19 and Michael at age 28, during this introduction of the characters we are then given flashbacks of both their childhoods. I was pulled into this story from that moment forward. I could feel the pain that both characters had suffered as children. I love reading suspenseful stories that give you all the feels.
Jenesis grew up in Pennsylvania with an abusive alcoholic father. At 19, she’s a college student, her parents are killed in a car accident due to her father’s intoxication. With the loss of her mom, the most important person in her life, she decides to move to NYC to give herself a fresh start in which she continues her college education. Michael grew up in New York City. His mother passed away when Michael was 6 leaving him with his tyrant of a father. Which shaped him into the cold, calculating womanizer he is today. He is one of New York City’s top criminal defense lawyer.
The author then flashes forward two years. Jenesis gets a job at the local police precinct. Her boss seems like a fatherly figure, but I felt bad vibes from him. Shortly thereafter Jenesis and Michael meet for the first time. They are immediately drawn to each other. You will have to read to see how they’re brought together, their struggles, and what they endure. I don’t want to give anything away. If you enjoy a great story with great characters that contains suspense and plot twists this is one you’ll definitely want to read. Looking forward to book 2.
I was gifted a copy of Broken Heart by Author Angel Rose in return for an honest review. Reviewing on behalf of Triple B's Book Blog This is a debut novel for Angel Rose. It is quite a dark start to the book and has you crying from the beginning. Jenesis Heart hasn't had an easy life living with a father that was abusive to her and her mother. She is living away from home at college with her best friend Vivian but Vivian is frustrated that Jen won't get help for the nightmares she continues to have. Jenesis' life comes crashing down one night and see's her leaving college to move to New York city in an attempt to run away from her tragic past. There she gets a job and meets Dave, her boss, who becomes a father figure to her. Life is looking up for her when she meets HIM, Michael a handsome criminal defense lawyer. Unfortunately, when introduced it is evident that Dave and Mike can't stand each other and so Jen's life becomes complicated again. Is it possible for both Dave and Mike to have a part in Jen's life without breaking her apart or will she have to choose? This book is the first in the series so ends on a cliffhanger. Broken Heart deals with quite a few heavy issues and may cause triggers for some.
Broken Heart by Angel Rose is the first book in the Broken Heart Series. This book is Angel's debut novel and definitely deserves recognition. I absolutely loved this book and had a hard time putting it down. This story is about Jenesis who is the broken lead character whom comes from a horrific childhood full of verbal abuse, physical abuse and domestic violence; Michael who is the dominant male lead character whom leaves you wondering if you actually like the guy, David who is the male father figure Jenesis always wanted but never had and a handful of other side characters. The author takes you on a rollercoaster ride full of anger, hate, love, lust, betrayal, lies, insecurities and drama. The author shows us what happens to the characters when one of them lies as it not only effects them but also everyone else's lives. This book is not for the faint at heart as it does contain abuse and very hot sex scenes. The book does end with a cliffhanger. I can't wait to read the next book in the series!!! And I hope that the side characters all get their own books as I know they have much more to tell us!
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
3.5
This book was a story about Jenesis moving to a new city for a new beginning and falling in love. She makes friends along the way, including David, whom takes it upon himself to look after her and become her father figure. The story has different twists and leaves with a mystery as to what is happening next.
I had a hard time connecting with this book. I couldn't get a read on the characters. Their personalities went back and forth too much for my taste. David would be a terrible guy, a good guy, a father figure, to a mean old man. Michael was supposed to be the great love of her life, but I struggled getting that feeling when he's being crazy possessive and acting with behaviors of an abuser. I couldn't get pulled into the book like I would have liked because I felt it was bouncing around too much, but the story is unique and I think Jenesis's story has potential to provide more.
I think some of the things I couldn't make sense of may be answered in the second book, which I have not read yet, so I'm optimistic about what is to come!
