Award-winning writer Duncan Whitehead was born in England and is the author of the best-selling and award-winning GORDONSTON LADIES DOG WALKING CLUB Trilogy. The series, inspired by the quirky characters and eeriness in the real-life Savannah neighborhood in which he once lived, is a humorous mystery that boasts an assortment of characters and plot twists. The first book in this series won the 2013 Reader's Favorite Book Award for Comedy.
He has also written over 2,000 spoof and comedy news articles under various aliases for a variety of websites both in the US and the UK. Duncan now resides in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and has written further novels, including the four-book FOREST PINES MYSTERY SERIES and a stand-alone comedy, THE RELUCTANT JESUS, which won the 2014 Reader's Favorite Book Award for Comedy.
The final and fourth book in the FOREST PINES SERIES was released in December 2023, written after a four-year hiatus from writing. He is the author of the parody A COZY MYSTERY…WITH ZOMBIES!, which was released in January 2024. He has recently completed his next book, a comedy and parody entitled MURDER, SHE HOPED, and has commenced work on his next comedy/mystery, THE MYSTERIOUS AFFAIR AT FLETCHER'S END.
Duncan is well known for his charity work and kindness to animals, children, and old people. His charity, 'Habitat for Hotties,' where he finds housing for retired Hooter's waitresses, was recently voted the least likely charity anyone would ever donate to. He has donated several organs to puppies and kittens and, to help save the planet does not leave a carbon footprint, as he only wears slippers. In February 2040, he invented time travel and now spends much of his time in either the future (where he has won the lottery an astonishing 117 times) or the present day. Attempts to return to 1985 and write The Harry Potter series of books have thus far failed.
A humorous, intense and entertaining blend of mystery, suspense and dark comedy! Having read and enjoyed the previous two books of the Gordonston Ladies Dog Walking Club trilogy, I couldn’t wait to read this final chapter where all secrets and hidden agendas are revealed. In this final book, a hitman is heading to Gordonston, and the intriguing plot thickens with unexpected twists and turns all the way to a brilliant finale.
The 3-book series was fairly good, though I am disappointed with the third book. The author attempted to do a recap of all that happened, but did it by alternating between past and present actual as well a imagined conversations and events ... I believe it hurt the book and it left me thoroughly confused!
I read all three of the books in this series pretty much back to back. And I think that reading it this way facilitated a deeper understanding of the characters as they were able to grow and develop right away, as opposed to based on a memory of them from a book that was read months or even a year prior as it is when one reads a book as they come out in a series.
This book takes place after a bit of time has passed from the second book. After the events of book two, life has mostly gone on for the people of Gordonston. For those unfortunate few who didn't have the opportunity to move on, they've mostly adapted to their new realities. Bad things happened, intentional or not, and the consequences are there. But things are looking up. There's a new mayor in town, crime is at an all-time low, and there are certainly no more paid hits, right?
This book neatly ties up all of the loose ends from the first two books, jumping back and forth in time to explain how we got to the events of the St. Patrick's Day Parade.
Okay, so maybe it's not all idyllic, people are going to die, loose ends *do* need to be tied up... After all, you can't have paid hits, (accidental)deaths, and lies and deception in book one and two and expect everyone to come out in book three unscathed.
I thought that this book wasn't quite as good as books one and two. Maybe it was the introduction and focus on a few newer characters that caused some of the charm to fade out. Still, it was very enjoyable, and I still laughed out loud many times and was, of course, led astray.
The ending redeemed any negative points this book incurred, however. After I was done reading I sat back for a few minutes laughing because the author played one gigantic trick on me from day one and I did not see it coming at all. Things are not always as they seem, something I learned from the characters since book one, but the ending really showed me how well the author had manipulated me into believing something that was not true, and while it was probably more of a minor detail, in retrospect it affected a lot of the plot and misconceptions of the book. To this I say "bravo".
Having read the first two books in the series, and loved the quirky characters and the surprising twists and turns in the plots, I started this one with great anticipation. I recommend reading the prior books to get the back stories. I did not care for the time spent on the mysterious Organization with its paid assassins, and would have preferred more time with the people of Gordonston we had come to know. More murder and mayhem in an upscale section of Savannah, without as much humour as in the preceding books.
A fitting ending to the series of stories about dogs, neighbors, secrets, mystery. murder and intrigue with a lot of humor in the mix. Great book, fast read, lots of humor. Just the type of books that you want to read when your mind needs to take a vacation.
Duncan Whitehead is a genius at mystery and intrigue. His ability to keep track of twists and turns from one book to the next without mixing things up is amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed each of the books individually and as a series. I highly recommend them to anyone who likes fun to read, fast-paced books with lots of twists and turns.
Outstanding dark cozy mystery series about Savannah
This is the third in a series of mystery books set in Savannah. The central theme starts with four women who begin a club meeting daily in a park which has become a dog park! From that basic premise comes a chain of events involving foreign intrigue, outstanding character development and plots that twist and turn to the point that you can not put your Kindle down. If you order, buy all three at once. Outstanding series!
I thought the series was very inventive and entertaining even though it's humor was dark at times. It kept me interested and I read all 3 in the series. My complaint is that in this book, there was no effort to correct the text. The wrong words/tenses/sentences were often present and it became annoying as I read.
As someone that has lived in Savannah the details the author used of the many places and scenery took me back in time. I love the fact that knowing Savannah the way I do this whole series is a possibility that it could be true. That is what was the best part.
The twists that started in book 1 are there to the end of Part 3. The resolution of the characters and events is satisfying. The number of grammatical errors in this book can be distracting.
This was a good quick read 3 book series. It had some interesting twist and turns. Also as someone who has spent a lot of time in Savannah, it made it easier for me to get into the location of the series. I will say though, the 3rd book had a lot of typos that detracted from the quality.
So many storylines, all unraveled and brought to a grand conclusion. I enjoyed this series. No dull reading here except in the very beginning and just as I was thinking it was a bit boring, all heck broke loose. What a cast of characters and so many surprises.
If you read the first book you should really read the next two as well as it is only in the final book that the story ends, however be warned the third book contains quite a few errors which I found annoying. Having said that these books are good escapism and all the different threads reminded me of the T.V series "Desperate Housewives".
The novel starts with a tense scene from the perspective of a sniper on Savannah's St Patrick’s Day celebrations before we move back a few months in time and see who is the target and how multiple events lead up to the shooting. This is the third book in the Gordonstone's series and there is a lot of backstory to go through. Reading the previous books will help you, as this is a densely plotted and populated dark comedy. That said, the writing style is very humorous and entertaining, the characters superbly colourful and twists move between present and past to make for some very sophisticated story telling. If you like intelligent and engaging mysteries / thrillers this is for you, although I recommend to read the entire trilogy for maximum enjoyment.
I enjoyed the books and liked them (so I gave three stars), they were a fun and easy read. Not laugh out loud funny, just a great generel sense of humor.
I read the ebook versions on my kindle, and what really bugged me was the editing of the books. Often there were words missing or a paragraph contained two sentences saying the same thing. Obviously one was a rewriting and the reptitiveness bugged me.
I can recommend them as a summer read or as a pick me up on cold winter days.
This third installment of the series was much better than the second. I had hoped it would have had more about the Saint Patrick's day festivities in Savannah, but the holiday was an opportunity to provide a timeline to the plot. The plot was still fairly light and somewhat predictable, but I like these kinds of series. The author did a fairly good job wrapping up some loose threads that seemed to pop up and tied them in a tidy bow to finish the story. I am hoping a sequel will follow little Katie and her dad "Doug" as they were the only characters without a conclusion.
I'm not sure if this, the final book in the trilogy, would stand on its own as the storyline refers regularly to events etc in the previous books. I have enjoyed all 3 books. Quick and easy to read there are enough twists and turns to keep you entertained. Same farcical goings on as in previous books. Am sure would make fun tv viewing should they ever make it there
My daughter recommended The Gordonson Ladies Dog Walking Club for me to read. I finished all three of the trilogy in 10 days. I enjoyed the characters, the twists and the mysteries intertwined within the larger one. I will read more books by this author.
Well finally finished this series and last book had a turn I didn't expect. Overall I found the characters interesting and amusing and the murders certainly caused some surprises. I would recommend them as a light read and find some amusement and surprise in life's little oddities.
A fairly good mystery, but too many sub-plots complicate the story. Indeed there is no mystery here. The narrative discloses how the murders take place while the law remains happy in drawing the wrong conclusions. The book needs a good edit and proofread.

Well, everything you thought you knew was wrong. This book turns the whole Gordonston neighborhood on its head. I have to say that I enjoyed the first book in the series best but this was a good way to end it.
A fitting finale to the series. It grips you from the first page and after various twists and turns and of course a couple of MAJOR surprises, ends wee bit predictably! Enjoyed reading the series.
