I loved it. I don't want to read any other reviews until I finish the last book (which I just purchased) and I want to start reading right now. I'm supposed to go out for dinner for my wedding anniversary tonight, and I just want to cancel and get started. That sounds terrible, I know so I won't be doing that. This series has gone above and beyond my expectations. The author kept making me turn the pages until I was finished. I didn't even realize that I was so close to the end until I was almost there. Everything about the book was great. The story flowed smoothly and it was well written. I have enjoyed this series so much, it was the best present I could've given myself.

An excellent addition to the Affliction series.
We continue to follow Kati as she navigates her new life with uncertainty. The author does a wonderful job with the growth of her character which is paramount throughout the story as Kati endures new and frightening experiences. The additional characters introduced are well developed with a sense of intrigue.
Overall, the plot was solid which kept me engaged and entertained throughout its entirety.
The novel does end with somewhat of a cliff hanger, but honestly, this only heightened my anticipation for the next book in the series.
I definitely reccommend this book to anyone who loves to read about Vampires.
I received a promotional copy in exchange for an honest review. This in no way influenced my review.

I was lucky enough to get the chance to read the ARC edition for this book.

VE: The Awakening is the second book in the Affliction series, which follows the main protagonist, Kati who continues her life journey and once more goes on an epic adventure to save herself from danger. Ever since she was turned she wonders if there some more of her kind. During this book she not only finds out some secrets abut her new life, she also grows as a character and she becomes even more likable than she was before.

The book is set in Europe - Vienna which I find oddly satisfying, because it makes the book feel more real.

I would recommend this book to any vampire and paranormal book lovers.

I'm on the edge of my seat!

This series is amazing. I 'm afraid to read the reviews because I don't want to find out too much. I am so glad I found this series but I' m sad that the next book (which I have just purchased) is the last. I can only hope that this author writes more. So I am going to start the last book immediately. This series is so good that I may have to postpone my wedding anniversary dinner so I can read it. This would disappoint too many people so I will have to take a break for tonight. I think the author is amazing. I know I'm gushing, but I just love it.

I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest and thoughtful review.

If you read the first book, you are aware of a foreboding sense of urgency and danger throughout much of the book. The author has recreated these feelings in this book as well. This one starts right after the first one ends, and tells the story of Kati who is in the process of learning how to move on with her freshly changed life with so many things that are new and frightening for her. I really liked the plot and some of the ideas presented in this book are at the very least plausible, which left me pretty intrigued. I think Kati has developed substantially as a character throughout this title and I can only imagine the strength she will have in the future. I highly recommend this one for vampire fiction fans.

I received a copy of the book in exchange of an honest review.
I loved it!! I enjoyed all the details throughout the story and the flashbacks. The story starts where the first book ended and it follow Kati with her new life, the new adventures. I won't say much more to avoid spoilers, but let just say that I can't wait to read the next book! Definitely would recommend it to those who appreciate the first book and/or stories of vampires seen under a different eye.

This is an awesome book. I love how the author continues to develop the character throughout the book while also maintaining a great plot. The story takes place in Europe during a classical period, making the whole story really come to life. I also appreciate the time period due to the fact that it is extremely hard as an author to write a book taking place so long ago. It's a very satisfying book and plot. If you are a vampire fan, this is a must read.

I received a free review copy for my honest review.

I did not realize that this was the second book in a series until I had finished it and came to review it. The author gave just enough detail throughout that you get enough of the back story so you aren’t left not understanding what’s going on.

The book opens with Countess Bathory being arrested. The protagonist, Kati, is a 14-year-old village girl that was Afflicted (although about vampires, that word is never used and they are the Afflicted). She escapes the arrests and makes her way to Vienna, where she finds shelter at a school and refuge for the Afflicted. Her insatiable quest for knowledge takes her on a trip around Central Europe and does end with a cliffhanger.

The main characters are well-developed as is the world. The author stays true to her conception of the world of the Afflicted. If you are looking for high adventure, this is not the book for you. The book is more thoughtful rather than full of fighting.

This story was very interesting. You follow a young Afflicted ( the word vampire is never said) in a journey through Europe while she first try to escape her previous life and hide then decide to take her life in her own hands.
The characters are likeable and interesting, especially the main character as the others are not as developed and mainly seen through her eyes.
I found that the part which didn't involved Katalina weren't as interesting. For example there were a lot of information about a nurse and some patient at the Sanatorium whom we never saw again. I wondered if they are going to play a role in further parts.
I am still confused on how and when Katalina was made into an Afflicted as well as why. I first thought it was on the night when she was attacked as Milos didn't seem to know she was why but then apparently she had been a Afflicted for about a year. It seemed to me that it lacked a bit of consistency.
The dialogues were also a bit repetitive, especially at the house in Vienna. It sounded a bit weird.
I liked the story a lot better when she goes on the road again.
The main thing that annoyed me was that the story end was a bit too easy, and you have this massif plot twist before the cliff hanger. I really don't like the cliff hangers, so many information tha I wanted to know. I realised that it was going to finish this way before the end and made me read the book more slowly (like that would change something). The ending was somehow frustrating.

If you like vampire stories, this book is for you. It's a really good inside in the vampire world and it's a nice trip through Europe.

I received a copy of this book on a read to review basis.

Somehow I feel really bad for not liking this book. I think I just expected it to be so much better than it turned out to be. However, I did not read the first book, so that probably didn't help either.
