Jaynie Cumberland finds herself shuffled from her current group home into her new placement in Forsaken, Virginia. She is under the care of a heartless, business woman, and her evil daughter. The bonds made during her stay on this mountaintop are with the four other children who are placed here as well, Mandy, Callie, Cody and Flynn O’Neill.

Flynn O'Neill’s upbringing has been just as brutal as Jaynie’s. Jaynie and Flynn form a friendship that progresses into a forever type of love.

”Jaynie, Jaynie, can’t you see I want the broken girl you are.” I hold onto to her more tightly. “You think I’m not damaged?” I laughed humorlessly. “We just need to take this thing one day at a time. No one ever said it would be easy.”

description

Working for their foster parent while barely being feed, and totally secluded from the outside world, these five exist and their bonds are strong and completely pulled at this reader’s heartstrings. It’s a story about survival that you can’t help but root for these kids to get out of Lowdry’s grip and find a better place in our world.

The story is low on the angst while being high on survival and sacrificing when things take a terrible turn.

”The past is behind you. Your future is away from here.”

Overall, this is a well written hard to put down story. There isn’t any cliffhanger to dread as the story does end in a happy for now scenario. I really appreciated the author not over doing the drama and action (just the right amount) to make the story believable. I’m happily looking forward to seeing how not only Flynn and Jaynie bear in the world together, but the other characters as well!

Heartbreakingly beautiful story about a couple who found love in a dark place... Not an easy read but so worth it!!!

 photo 4d2bd764-b56a-4771-b858-1b951e024ee9_zpst6gjjkau.jpg

Jaynie Cumberland has gone through a very tough childhood. Her mom abandoned her and Jaynie was forced into the foster care system at a young age. She carries a lot of insecurities, after being left behind by every person she's ever loved.

After being hurt yet again, Jaynie feels completely broken and now her only hope is counting down the days until she turns eighteen so she can finally escape the system that's failed her so many times, and start a new life. With only a few months before she becomes of age, Jaynie is placed in a new home that is supposed to be a wonderful place for orphans.

The other kids in this new home are wonderful to Jaynie, especially the beautiful guy that keeps lighting up her days with his gorgeous smile. Unfortunately nothing is what it seems and after the social worker leaves her under the care of her new foster mom, she learns her new reality. This new place turns out to be hell for Jaynie and the other kids, they all have to work very hard to earn meals or any other basic privileges. Being exploited on day to day basis, brings these kids closer and they grow protective of each other, forming a family of their own, because even though they all have been through so much pain, they all have so much love to give.

Flynn O'Neill hasn't been lucky in life either. After his mother died his father turned into a monster and shattered everything in Flynn's life. His pain and grief took him to the streets for a life of misery and after getting caught committing a crime, he's placed in foster care. Flynn is very protective of the other kids in the house. Acting as a big brother to them but from the moment he meets Jaynie he knows she's going to be very special to him.

Flynn wants to help Jaynie heal and he makes it his mission to put a smile on her face everyday, even though they live in a horrible place. A beautiful friendship will blossom into a fierce love between Flynn and Jaynie and together they start making plans for a future. But unfortunately, hate and jealousy from those with more power than them will threaten to destroy everything they have been fighting for.

 photo 65a04c08-f0fe-4d6c-aa2a-eef9c989e9f5_zpsbfi8icjf.jpg

From the moment I read the blurb of this book, I knew I wanted to read it. I loved the resilience and beauty of the characters. Jaynie and Flynn fought fiercely for their love and they found a safe haven where only they existed, pushing away all the darkness that threatened to destroy yet again, their most precious things in life, love and family.

All the secondary characters were amazing, bringing a lot of sweetness to the plot and creating the perfect balance between all the sad and happy moments in all of these kids lives. Yes, this is very tough book to read due to all the sensitive subject matter but you'll be mesmerized by the powerful love between all the characters.

I felt satisfied and very hopeful for Jaynie and Flynn at the end of the book and I can't wait to read the next chapter in their story...

MY RATING: 5 Twisted, Deranged STARS

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

The synopsis kind of jumped out at me when I was looking on Amazon and here with what to read next, then seeing all the high ratings I was sold..

A touching, thought provoking novel, Tomorrows Lies isn't just about the unloved, unwanted, lost kids within the state system it's about slowly healing, trusting, new found hope and finding love in the most unusual dark places..This book will surely touch you on some level, it's so beautifully written, a unique touching, emotionally raw story line, you don't just connect with the characters you breathe them in..Twists and turns, nail biting sit on the edge of your seat anticipation..

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

I've not read anything previous to this by this author before so I'm not sure what is install for me BUT in saying that f*ck I'm glad I took a gamble on this and one clicked it..

Second chapter I had tears in my eyes, my heart just stopped beating, my eyes watered to see if I had read it right and my head screamed NO..

FLYNN

My dad is arrested for killing Galen. He's tried and convicted, sent away to rot in prison, it means I become an orphan, a ward of the state.

The state can call me anything they want, but the truth is I am one of the unwanted, the discarded. Another kid in the system, another cog in a broken wheel.

More books should be written about this subject matter because it is real and I speak from experience because each time when my mother tried to commit suicide my brother and I were placed in social welfare homes, (me 10 him only 4) some of these homes were ok, but the last one we were ever in which was run by nuns was really really bad, so I've connected with this book more on an emotional level..

JAYNE

You know how sometimes you meet a person and you have this overwhelming sense they're going to play an important role in your life? Well, that's the feeling I get with Flynn.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

It feels really good knowing there's something still normal about me. A crush gives me hope that there may be a regular 'ole teenage girl buried beneath all the fucked - up stuff..

Most of today’s promises are nothing but tomorrow’s lies.

If I had one wish it would be to fly away. Away from this place, away from the pain.

Title: Tomorrow's Lies
Series: Promises #1
Author: S.R. Grey
Release date: October 28, 2015 (Early release)
Cliffhanger: No
HEA

Tomorrow's Lies is a story of love bringing hope back to the hopeless. It's not just another story of two broken people putting their shattered pieces back together. Jaynie and Flynn are denied the most basic physical and emotional necessities that are every human's right. And still, their giving nature, their goodness is never erased. When all hope and optimism for a better life have been shattered and destroyed, two teens find healing and acceptance in each other.

This book is so different than my typical reads, but I'm so happy I decided to read it. I got so much more than I bargained for and I won't soon forget it. The author sheds light onto some very difficult topics, things that most people would rather not think about.

These are two characters that will immediately draw you in and bring you into the world that they exist in. Jaynie and Flynn are foster children who have lived for years in the horribly flawed system that often times consumes the innocence of the ones who need a loving hand the most. The first chapter was a raw and heartbreaking look into the horrors of child abuse. But that was only the beginning of the pain and suffering that would have to be endured.

The book alternates between the past and present, showing us how Jaynie and Flynn came to be at the foster home where they meet. They are both seventeen and counting the days until they can leave the care of the state and finally find freedom from the fears they live with every day. Jaynie has a huge chip on her shoulder and is incapable of being touched. Even though she's entering a home that once again exploits her vulnerability, it's a far cry from the horrors that she just escaped. But she never expected to find the boy who would help her find real happiness once again. A boy who has been through just as much pain as she has and understands her and treats her with kindness and patience.

His wide shoulders carry so much of his own pain, but he's willing to carry mine too. And beneath that hard chest lies a good heart. Maybe someday I'll find the courage to lean my head against him.

Watching their love bloom in these less than ideal circumstances was sweet and heartbreaking all at the same time. Together they find the exhilaration of that first attraction-the uncertainty and nervousness. Then the rush of exploring their gravitation toward one another.

Lowering my face to hers, we share breaths more heated than the hot air surrounding us. There is nothing else in the world right now, only she and I.

This book was difficult at times to read, but also a love story with purity and expectation. Of what could be. The strength and endurance you can find in the lowest of places. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for a poignant and emotional read that will resonate in the most cynical heart. It ends in a happy-for-now place (no cliffhanger) and Jaynie and Flynn (as well as the side characters) story will continue on in the following book.

What an emotional ride this was! My heart was all over the place.... sadness at what two young people went through and happiness that, for a time, they were not alone...

[image error]2015-11-01"

Both Flynn and Jaynie grew up in the worst of circumstances and both ended up in the foster system.. going from home to home and experiencing things along the way no child should have to endure. My heart broke for both of them as we got glimpses throughout the story of what they went through.. before they found their way to each other in the same home. But this home is no better than any other they have been to before on their own. The only thing that gives this home a tiny spark of happiness is each other and the small family of other kids in the home. A bond was formed between all of them.. a bond stronger than some true families would ever have because all they had was each other... for a time.

Both Flynn and Jaynie are 17 and won't be in the system much longer.. this will be the last home they are in before they are free to be together and start their lives. But first they must survive the horrible conditions they are living in. Harsh labor and starvation are just a few of the things they must endure.. But Flynn and Jaynie have each other .....

[image error]Image

But circumstances force their hand and one must leave while the other stays behind....

[image error]Image"

What happens when they are forced to navigate on their own until they can keep their promise to be together again, at any cost?

"Promise me you'll be all right. Swear to me this will all turn out okay." "I promise," he says.

"Swear to me we'll meet where we said we would, as soon as you can get away."

" I swear"

" Don't you dare go and forget about me, Flynn O'Neill."

" Like that would ever be possible...."

Although Flynn and Jaynie's story is unfinished, this part of their story does not in a cliffhanger... it ends in a perfect "Happy For Now" spot. I can't wait to see the continuation of their journey...

Supposed to be in bed, but sleep must be sacrificed when S.R. Grey delivers a new book.

I loved everything about this book! As usual, the writing was FABULOUS. The research for this book was right on. (I can't find a complaint, which is unusual for me....And we all know how awful I am at writing reviews for great books.)
So, to avoid any awkwardness that might follow. (Aka, a blank review with a 5 star rating...) I've decided to post GIF's that describe my feels.

1)

2)

3)
(In reference to not finishing the Laid Bare volumes YET...)

4) Flynn....

5) Knowing I have to wait God only knows how long for the next book...

“The state can call me anything they want, but the truth is I am one of the unwanted, the discarded. Another kid in the system, another cog in a broken wheel.”

No truer words have been used to describe the millions of kids in the system. S.R. Grey's newest book tackles the underbelly of the foster care system, the damages of sexual/physical/mental abuse, and the ability to learn to trust, heal and love again. She takes us through an eye opening and emotional journey that runs bone deep. One that portrays a myriad of innocent children fractured by the hands of life blended perfectly with pure love. TL is not for the faint of heart. Grey doesn’t hold back when it comes to the brutality these children endure. Do know that these scenes may be very descriptive.

As the author has stated, yes, this is a fictional story but it is also a very real issue. And as someone who is quite acquainted with the system, there is more truth than fiction to Tomorrow’s Lies.

This heart wrenching tale is one that’s very near and dear to my heart. Mandy, Flynn, Jaynie, Cody, and Callie haven’t lived anywhere close to a fairy tale life. Their past and present are what nightmares are made of. And their chances at finding anything resembling healthy definitely doesn’t come with any kind of ease; instead, it comes at extremely high prices.

I fell in love with these kids the moment I met them. They were damaged, shattered to the core, a vulnerable shell of emptiness. By the end though, you won’t view them as victims, but as true survivors and heroes. They will own a special place in your heart; they did mine. I adored them so much, I can’t even bring myself to think of them as characters in a book, they are more than that, they were very much real.

“In this house, the monsters are not in the closet. They exist outside of it.”

The family, deep attachments, loyalty, and affection that was built behind those gates of hell was so stunning. Their downright need for one another anchored this unconventional group, giving them a solidification they have never felt before. Together they offered one another a sense of hope; a feeling of worthiness. The way these five blended together to make a tragic and heart wrenching situation manageable is inspirational. Their caregiver abused the crap out of them (that’s putting it mildly) and the system was so full their social workers abandoned them. These children were left to horrendous conditions and denied the most basic needs. To say it was an atrocity and an injustice is an understatement. Everything surrounding them felt pretty much impossible to see beyond, yet they pushed forward, giving selflessly and overcoming the battles heaved on them.

Mandy, Flynn, Jaynie, Cody, and Callie were a force to be reckoned with, even with being broken and scarred in some of the worst ways. Their stories enough to make your skin crawl. Yet, they were the best kind of protagonists. Their hearts, while not whole, were gentle and filled with an abundance of light and compassion. They were courageous in ways most will never know or need to be. It won't take long for you to see they'd encounter the real meaning of purgatory in their short lives.

“The horrors of life are not always wrapped up in neat little packages. The bad things get intermixed with the good things sometimes, because it’s the good and the bad that makes us who we are.”

Grey’s writing of these characters was poignant and beautiful. It was gritty and it was intense, packing a punch. Each scenario, each emotion, each interaction was tangible and thought provoking. She nailed all of these with such precision. Their pain and anguish, their resilience, their faith, optimism and love evoked vivid and strong emotions.

Even with the topics at hand, I would categorize Tomorrow’s Lies as low angst. The angst didn’t surround the typical lack of communication or the push and pull of our main protagonists. Instead, it came from the outside world, forcing them to explore it together as a family unit. I loved that Susie left out the contrived drama between Flynn and Jaynie. This alone made me love this book so much more. It really showcased how much these two affected each other, allowing us to see deeper inside them. And really their pasts and presents were more than enough to handle without throwing in the unneeded.

I was rather impressed with the amount of attention and detail brought to the table. The steadiness and development with which the plot line and connections were built progressed at a relatable and believable pace. There were a few spots I wanted the author to delve a bit more, but overall there was plenty of rich depth that had me engaged and invested .

Thank you, S.R. Grey, for pouring your heart into a subject that most people turn a blind eye to and doing it justice.

When it comes to her NA books, I am a huge fan of S.R. Grey’s writing. Her characters always end up becoming some of my favorites; they truly move me in ways other characters can’t. Tomorrow's Lies comes as a high recommendation from me.

Thank you, S.R. Grey, for the complimentary copy of Tomorrow's Lies.

I received this eARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

4.5 Stunning Stars!
My heart both weeped and also cheered. What an amazing read!

The Review:
I love this authors writing but she really outdid herself this time. She bleed her soul onto the pages of this book and it shows. Jaynie and Flynn were absolutely beautiful together and their story was awe inspiring.

I LOVED this read!

The Story/Characters...
Jaynie, abandoned by her mother when she was very young, has been in and out of group homes and foster homes for years, and just when she thought she’d caught a break and ended up with a nice caretaker, hell opened it’s prison doors and unleashed her worse nightmare. To late to escape the depravity of humanity, she’s finally taken to a new home, where promises for a fresh start are preached. Only her new home is anything but sunshine and fresh starts.

Flynn’s life has been anything but ideal. Broken and betrayed by the one man who was supposed to love him unconditionally, he’s shuffled around in the system, being placed in one bad situation after another. But just when he thinks life has finally given up on him, fate swings Jaynie his way and suddenly there’s light in the darkness.

These two characters are far too broken and damaged for ones so young, but they fight, they pull their strength in and they find beauty in the ugly.

S.R. Grey does a tremendous job of depicting life as an orphan. Knowing this was a fictional story didn’t diminish it’s real life similarities to things that happen in our unfortunately broken system. Children who should be loved and cared for and protected are in fact exploited, battered and corrupted. But there are some who hold on to their pure hearts even through the horrific circumstances they are forced to endure. Out of necessity and a desire to connect, they make good where there seems to be very little. That’s what Jaynie, Flynn, Mandy, Cody and Callie did. They banded together, loved each other and formed their own little family during the worst of situations. And inside that family, true love was born.

Jaynie and Flynn found peace, healing and ultimately trust, with one another. And though there problems were momentous, I loved that the author didn’t give us the traditional conflict of two young blossoming loves. Flynn was true to Jaynie. He didn’t stray, even though the opportunities presented would have meant a less harsher life for himself. He stood up for himself, had a moral code and he protected Jaynie whenever he could. I loved these two as a couple. Their romance was a beautiful thing to watch unfold. Flynn was patient and kind and supportive. He understood just how damaged Jaynie was and it didn’t matter to him. He loved her, problems and all. Jaynie felt the same for Flynn. She didn’t care what kind of burdens he carried. She was strong enough to help him carry them.

I enjoyed the ending as well. Just when you think the evildoers have the upper hand, fate steps in and retribution is granted. The author did a phenomenal job with all the characters stories, making this a fantastic read!

The only thing I felt slowed down the story was the lull between the climax and the ending, which was filled with the rebuilding of everyday life and the characters waiting for either a reconnection or the other shoe to drop. But honestly, I think it felt slow because I wanted so desperately for them all to get their happy ending and I was anxious to see how it all played out.

The Wrap Up:
Tomorrow’s Lies was heartbreaking, heartfelt, emotional, angsty, beautiful, wonderful and just an all around breathtaking read! I enjoyed the story, I loved the characters and I can’t wait for the second book to see how their lives unfold further.

This book really tugged at my heartstrings. Right from the jump I was hooked. And then that first chapter! It gutted me. I had to put the book down and give myself a minute.

This story isn't easy to read at times, but those are usually the best ones. The ones that make you feel a multitude of things - from feeling hopeless on one page to feeling hopeful on the next.

S.R. Grey did an amazing job telling the story of Flynn and Jaynie. I adored both characters and I felt their pain, their connection, their doubts, and their love for each other. Mandy and the twins also stole my heart.

A well crafted, beautifully told story of overcoming tragedy and lies and opening yourself up to the promise of love and truth. Though, the story doesn't end there. There is more to come and I am anxiously awaiting book 2! <3

4.5 Stars!!!

The prologue was a great way to catch a reader's interest, because after that, you'll sure be itching for more. After what happened, I was eager to know how everything would turn out. But then I was brought to the beginning which was fine for me because it was engaging. In fact, I was hooked.

description

The first part of this book had me so engrossed even if the love story between Flynn and Jaynie was moving at a snail's pace because my attention was not only focused on them but also on the three side characters who are Mandy, Callie and Cody. In fact, it started as a solid 5 stars for me.

Normally, I hate it when the author diverts the story from the main characters, but not with this one. For one, I believe that they were not a side characters as they occupy a big part of the story. I also love the relationship between these five, they really treated each other like a family.

The author was able to deliver how one may endure/ experience under foster care and the lack of responsibility of the social worker to check on the kids if they were really taken care of. So it's not a question when my heart goes out to the abuse that they were receiving especially the twins. Kept me thinking of all the possible abuse a child/teen may get from foster care.

Everything after what happened felt surreal to me, making the second part of this book a 4 star. From *** warning!!*** It's not bad, I was just a bit disappointed on how it turns out.

Overall, I'd say that it was still a good read. My first from this author and it definitely won't be my last.

I received this book as an arc copy... Omg!! I wish their were more stars for this amazing well written book I believe it should have 10 stars!!! At the beginning of the book it hooks you right in right away! I balled my eyes out because this is how some foster children are treated!! Flynn had grown up in a house hold with his mother and father and brother but it all became a nightmare after his mother passes away and his father started drinking again and beating his little brother and him over and over again. One night the beatings took a turn for the worse and Flynn's father had beaten his little brother to death. Jaynie was also in a bad house hold she was raised by her mother until one day Jaynies mother told her their was no more room in her life for her and up and disappeared and Jaynie ended up in a foster home and everything was fine until her foster mothers son came home from prison and sexually assaulted Jaynie over and over again. Flynn and Jaynie end up in a home together and they ended up trusting one another and then falling in love.. The Lowry's used all the foster children as slaves they had to do all the cleaning and they had to work in their works shop they had to make quota to get there meals and a lot of time they were starving for food. This books has a lot of twist and turns and a bad case of child abuse in young children that end up pulling together and staying together and being their for one another...

5 Gut Wrenching Stars!!!

This book totally gutted me. I really connected with this story. I was an only child but my parents opened our home to foster children. We saw so many children come out of terrible foster homes. Sad but true. So I really felt like I knew these characters. Words can't express what I'm feeling.

This book was perfectly written. Once you start it, you can't put it down. It has all the feels that you want in a really great book. S.r. Grey is definitely one of my go to authors!

Jaynie, Flynn, Mandy, and the twins have already suffered a miserable life but then to end up at Crafty Lo's in Forsaken, West Virginia is both a blessing and a curse. A blessing because they form a tight bond but a curse because they are truly nothing but slaves. This is a heartbreaking story about survival. But it does have some really sweet moments between the kids and a blossoming first love romance. It is all meshed together beautifully.
Flynn is the perfect hero. He will do whatever is necessary to protect the people he loves.

If you are looking for a book that will leave you craving more, look no further. I can't wait to see where we go from here!

Tomorrow's Lies

Emotional Wreck.

Heartbroken.

Devastation.

Tears.

Hope.

Joy.

Tears of Joy.

This pretty much sums up everything I felt and then some while reading this story. Jaynie and Flynn both have had a hard life and grew up in the foster care system. The place they are at looks good on paper but it's not what it seems. The house consist of Mandy, Flynn and the twins, Callie and Cody. They are forced to work all day for their dinner. They endure a lot of psychological abuse. Even in these circumstances they form a bond and look out for each other. They become a family and protect each other. I loved that no matter how crappy their situation was they made the best of it. The foster mothers daughter, Allison has the hots for Flynn. When he shows an interest in Jaynie instead all hell breaks loose. The pain she inflicted on them was horrible. I found myself crying so many times. This book was absolutely gut wrenching. Flynn and Jaynie do make it out but at what cost?? I'm so happy I have the next book because I need closure. If you are looking for a book that will rip your friggin heart out, this book is for you!

I was absolutely blown away with this story, there are not enough words to describe this amazing read.
Jaynie is a broken girl, that was thrown into the foster care system after her mother abandoned her.
Flynn is also thrown into the system, in which both characters end up at the same foster house with 3 other kids. This isn't an ordinary home. The foster mother treats them like slaves, and barely feeds them. Together the kids make the most out of their horrible conditions. Flynn and Jaynie form a great bond with each other.
They both find themselves falling in love, but fate will not let that happen. Can theses kids make it through today's promises? Or will they be tomorrows lies? The twists and turns in this book will make you cry ugly tears, your heart will break, and you will not want to put this book down!! This story has a great ending, but I so wanted more. I was completely engrossed into this story and didn't want it to end.

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

“If someday you fly away Jaynie-bird, can I go with you?”

Jaynie Cumberland has been in the foster care system since her early teens. She’s never been wanted. Not until she meets Flynn O’Neill, who is also no stranger to the same foster care system. They both share a past of pain and loneliness. Jaynie is very resistant to get close to Flynn in any way. But slowly, she lets down her walls and Flynn becomes her solace. The bright star in the only dark sky she’s ever known. And Flynn? He’s forever haunted by his past. He merely exists, waiting for the day until he turns eighteen to escape. But Jaynie? She changes things.

“Flynn is quickly becoming my brightest star, one that manages to be seen even on the cloudiest of nights.”

We are taken on a journey with two broken people that don’t know love. But easily recognize it in the other. Their story is heartbreaking, yet inspirational. Overwhelming, yet breathtaking. This goes beyond the cliche characters with a past. It goes deeper. Jaynie and Flynn face a life of hardship that no person should go through. They bear a cross that no one should endure. But they find hope in each other. But what happens when that hope is tested? When choices are to be made? And the promises are challenged? You simply love deeper.

“I promise you, Jaynie Cumberland, I will never forget you. You are burned in my soul.”

The writing is so real. Raw in it’s delivery. Emotional with it’s words. You have not read this story before. The author realistically tackles some heavy emotional subjects here. She also exposes the reader to things not usually discussed in books, but is so very relevant to today’s world. You do so much more than read this story. You live and breathe it. The author easily places the characters inside your heart as you experience their highs and lows. Their trials as well as their triumphs. This beautiful and thought provoking story is so much more than I could ever put into words.

“You were always the brightness, Jayne. You made my world alive.”

Tomorrow’s Lies is a true testament to the power and resiliency of the human spirit. Flynn and Jaynie have never experienced what it is to love or be loved. But they effortlessly found it each other. They loved loudly. Fiercely. Their love transcends. It’s profound. Their love knows no end. Their love faced an adversity that many would not survive. But their love simply endured.

“Nothing in this world could ever stop me from loving you. We’re forever, you and me.”

Jaynie and Flynn found love in the darkest place. Where love does not go. Where love doesn’t exist. Despite their past and everything they’ve faced, they love from the very depths of their soul. I leave out the plot of this story as it must be experienced by the reader. You are never told of their love. You simply feel it. Their souls are tethered. Their lives forever changed. Tomorrow’s Lies is a touching and heartfelt story about love and hope. About choosing love over the darkness of the world. Although scarred, the hearts of Jaynie and Flynn are so pure. Their love unyielding. They love with courage, and with a confidence that is felt from their very being. I cannot wait to see where their story takes us next.

TERA'S REVIEW
4.5 STARS

Everyone has a story....everyone's
story deserves to be told ...but some parts of that story may be very difficult to read ....and sometimes THOSE are the stories ...the dark ones ...the difficult to read ones....that need to be brought into the light the most...

~~In this house, the monsters are not in the closet. They exist outside of it.~~

Flynn has not had an easy life ...by any definition ....an extremely hard life growing up ...things a child should never have to endure...then thrust into the foster care system ...At his core ...He is a protector ...that's what he does ...that's what he knows ....
He meets Jaynie when they both get placed in the same home...where things aren't exactly as they appear on the outside
...Jaynie has been through her own trauma ...that will never really go away.....but she just wants to be "normal" again ...she is strong and determined ...I really like her!

~~The system is broken. And now, so am I.~~

This novel is heartbreaking as well as heartwarming ...it will introduce you to some amazing and beautiful characters as well as some that you'd like to "take a switch to"....Well...probably more than a switch ...There are parts of this story ...that will break your heart ...but there are also parts ...that will mend it back together ....it's about finding your happy ..right where you are ...about not giving up...courage and determination... about desperation ...about always moving forward ...and hope for a better future....cause without hope ..what is there?

~~I’m comfortable with my new foster siblings, in a way that helps me heal. Every day, I draw a little closer to the girl I once was.~~

I can't wait to see what happens next for all of these characters...A really beautiful novel...a recommended read for sure!

TRACY'S REVIEW
4 STARS

Today's promises become tomorrow's lies. That's the one most important thing that stuck out for me while reading this story.

Jaynie learns this the hard way while growing up. Until she meets Flynn, the boy in the same foster home she gets sent to. And what a home it is. The mother is a vile woman who works and starves the children in her care. Over the course of staying in the home, Jaynie and Flynn become friends and fall in love. Only things get worse at the home and they make a fact for Jaynie to run. Flynn promises to find her. But will his promise become tomorrow's lie?

This story is filled with strong and resilient characters. Can't wait to read about the rest of the characters.

Grab the tissues!!! Wow this is a heartbreakingly beautiful book. If you have ever been at a point in your life where you think it can’t get any worse just remember it always can. But sometimes you have to get through the bad in life to make it out on the other side. I was hooked from the very first page. I read this in one sitting because I had to know what happens.

Jaynie hasn’t had the best life. She was thrown into the system at a young age by a mother that didn’t want her and then sent to live in hell all over again. Now Jaynie is going to a new foster home but now she has to deal with more issues that her last foster home instilled. Jaynie isn’t looking for love or even a friendship. She is just trying to count down the days until she turns 18 and can be free. But Flynn turns her worlds upside down. She finds herself having feelings she never thought possible again. But Jaynie soon realizes her and Flynn both need each other in order to survive this new foster home.

Flynn’s life hasn’t been easy either. He has his own issues and demons that he is dealing with. When I learned of what happened to Flynn, it broke my heart. Flynn is living in foster care with 3 other children and they all have a strong bond. When Jaynie shows up, Flynn looks at her differently than the bond he shares with the others. He wants to protect Jaynie and keep her safe. They are both once again living in hell but now that they have each other they know things might be a little different.

This book is an emotional roller coaster ride. At times I held my breath and at other times I wanted to crawl through my kindle and hold each and every one of them and tell them it would be ok. I mean how much do they have to go through before they can catch a break? I love the strong bond between each of the characters. They all connect in a different way. At times this book was very hard to read but so worth it in the end. I honestly can’t wait to see what’s in store next for each one of these amazing characters!

**REVIEWED ON BEHALF OF YOUR NEXT HOT READ**
What.A.Read!
This book kept me up all night. Literally, all night long. It has everything you could want in a book; love, heat, jealousy and an evil bitch to get your loathe on.
Flynn & Jaynie have already endured horror that parents spend their lives trying to shelter their children from. The claws of tragedy have already been sunken into this pair of young adults. They're just trying to survive the last year of their time in the foster care system when they're imprisoned together at Crafty Lo's mountain, forced into slavery and starvation under the guise of being 'cared' for by Mrs Lowry and her 19 year old daughter, Allison.
The foster kids there forge a bond akin to their own version of a 'family', bonding through the strain of malnutrition, exhaustion and mandatory labour.
But Flynn & Jaynie never anticipated meeting that one person who keeps you going, giving you hope of a future. They never expected to fall in love.
Allison loathes the fact that she can ration, work and mentally torture this young couple, but she cannot break their bond, their love. She wants Flynn but he cannot abide her
***
Without turning around, I raise my middle finger and shove it high in the air.
"That's the only fuck you'll ever get from me, so savour it."
The bitch will never beat me.

***
This novel has you hooked from the first page, the love, the connection forged between Flynn & Jaynie.
This book has all the innocence of a childhood stolen, with the struggles of coming of age and facing an uncertain future, all written with the beautiful poet flare we've come to expect from SR Grey.
***
"It was our punishment for sneaking out last night."
"No, Jaynie," Flynn corrects. "It was our punishment for falling in love."

***
If you want a tension filled, heart pumping read that's soaked in the sweetness of a first love, a first kiss and the promises of a beautiful tomorrow then this is the book for you! It's about growing, trusting, loving and defying the odds to get what you truly deserve, always putting the one you love before yourself.
5 Stars all the way!

I would like to start out by saying that this book was heartbreaking and beautifully written. This story shows us the cruel underbelly of the foster child system and all the abuse that can happen whether it is neglect, sexual or physical and mental abuse. I had to stop reading for a minute or tow at a few points to get my emotions under control because the story seemed so real and raw in the way it was written. My heart really broke for both Flynn and Jaynie and I really was rooting for them to be able to overcome all the abuse and damage that they were already inflicted with to be able to help heal each other. It also makes me really glad that I was one of those lucky ones that never had to go into the system or have an abusive childhood. This story leaves us on a cliffhanger and I can not wait to read the next one!

The first thing that drew me to this book was the stunning cover, but what kept me was the hope for a happily ever after for this cast of characters.

Grey tells a tough and tragic story, but she still manages to find those moments that every reader needs, those rays of light.

Flynn & Jaynie overcome so many internal and external conflicts that shine a light on a myriad of serious issues. We feel each sorrow and joy. Every tension filled twist and every desperate moment.

I love Grey's reminders that true love doesn't just go away. It just imbeds itself deep inside your soul.

May each of our days be lived in color and full of hope

I loved this story! It had all the feels, but also dealt with a serious topic. It's clear Ms. Grey did her research on this subject. This is also a story of triumph of the human spirit. Jaynie and Flynn were amazing characters that will stay with me for a long time.

~ 3.5 Stars ~

I have to be honest….I have mixed feelings about this book. I enjoyed the storyline and the characters a lot, but there was just something with this book that didn't click for me.

I have read most of S.R. Grey's books and I have to say this wasn't my favorite of hers. I like the overall storyline, but I felt it dragged on in spots and that some of the information we got that slowed the pace of the books down seemed kind of repetitive. What I did like a lot about this book, was how well this story was researched. You can tell S.R. put a lot of effort into this story to give us an accurate portrayal of the subject matter that was covered in this novel. I will warn you though that this does cover the very sensitive subject child abuse and the foster care system. To be honest the first chapter in this book was extremely hard for me to read. This book will definitely be a trigger for some readers and please go forward with caution. If child abuse is a touchy subject for you, then this might not be the book for you.

Tomorrow's Lies is the first book in this new series. No it doesn't have a cliffhanger for an ending but it does leave you with a to be continued ending. To be honest I don't think this series needs to be two books. From what I gather the next book is going to be about their life after the foster care home they just left. I would've actually liked to see that more in this book. I think it would've lightened the mood of the story a little. This book really is a somber story. Don't get me wrong this book ends with Flynn and Jaynie in a very happy place, but I felt like that should've come sooner in the book.

This book is told in two parts and I thought the first part could've been shortened just a little bit. By making part one so long it really made the ending feel rushed. Now with that said I know that there is another book coming, so I am guessing that is where I will get a lot of the HEA for Flynn and Jaynie. In this book we see what it is like for kids in the foster care system. I have to say this book really opened my eyes. I know not every case is like this one was but it scares me to think that there are these types of situations out there.

I did like watching the journey both Flynn and Jaynie went on together. Jaynie is a severely broken girl when she is sent to the foster home that Flynn is staying at. But over the course of the book we watch her blossom into more of the girl she used to be. She learns to trust others, especially men, and also learns to love, not only Flynn but Mandy, Cody and Callie too. Flynn was amazing too. He had a horrible upbringing and my heart broke for him many times. But he was such a pillar of strength for not only Jaynie, but also Mandy, Cody and Callie.

I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for that emotional coming of age romance story. Just because this didn't WOW me, doesn't mean it won't be a 5 star read for others. Just remember that this has some seriously tough subject matter and can be tough to read at times.
