The Warlock Brothers of Book Two

Thad Blackmoor’s heart is as cold as his icy magical abilities. He considers emotions a waste of his time and prefers to study the arcane, using the sacred books of his coven to grow in his craft. He aspires to supersede his father and elder brother Pierce in power, and now that his younger brother, Mason, has tapped into the rare warlock power of darkness, he needs to work harder than ever.

But Thad's ambitions are halted when he saves Aiden Teine, a fire fairy, from a banshee. Thad’s immediate attraction to Aiden catches him off guard and thaws his cold heart for the first time. As Thad, Aiden, and his brothers investigate the connection between the banshee attack and the vampyre and shadow weaver who almost killed them, Thad tries to dodge Ben, a sexy warlock who won’t let him be after a one-night stand.

Their search for answers leads them to the Otherworld, where something even more insidious is at work—something Thad will need more than logic to stand against.

Jacob Z. Flores lives a double life. During the day, he is a respected college English professor and mid-level administrator. At night and during his summer vacation, he loosens the tie and tosses aside the trendy sports coat to write man on man fiction, where the hard ass assessor of freshmen level composition turns his attention to the firm posteriors and other rigid appendages of the characters in his fictional world.

Summers in Provincetown, Massachusetts, provide Jacob with inspiration for his fiction. The abundance of barely clothed man flesh and daily debauchery stimulates his personal muse. The second book in this magically fascinating series is just as exciting as the first, probably more so. Why? Well, first of all, the main character is Thad, Mason’s older brother, and he was not exactly a nice guy in the previous story. Cold and withdrawn, academically inclined, and an incurable know-it-all. Actually I was looking forward to finding out if, upon closer examination, the emotional ice that seems to surround him - in line with his magical ability to manipulate cold stuff - might thaw. Secondly, the villain discovered and vanquished by Mason and Drake is definitely not alone, plus the Conclave has prophesized more “darkness” and another foe, so I was pretty sure there would be more attacks. And finally, from reading the blurb alone, it is clear that this magical world has more “secrets” to discover – with a fire fairy, banshees, and hostile shadow weavers practically lurking around the corner, not to mention the “Otherworld” that I was sure would mean a fair bit of upheaval too. Yep, I was in for more conflict, adventures, drama, and emotional challenges – and I couldn’t wait to dive in.

Thad is Mr. Logic all the way. He is writing a dissertation on arcane magic, using his studies to understand how humans see warlocks, wizards, and witches. Ultimately, he hopes to figure out how to defeat the witch hunters who are still determined to exterminate “homo magus” – all the races of them – hundreds of years after the last witch hunts that drove magic wielders into hiding. But Thad has been battling nightmares, he saves a fire fairy named Aiden from a banshee, then Ben, the warlock he had an involuntary one-night stand with, keeps following him around, and he suddenly feels drawn to Ben and Aiden. Thad has a lot to learn, and I loved watching him change and grow.

Aiden is a fire fairy, and his arrival causes a lot of chaos because of who he is (fairies are supposed to stay in their Otherworld) and because of the news he brings. Aiden needs help, as does the entire Otherworld. He can also see through Thad’s protective walls, and it opens up some interesting avenues for the two of them to explore. Thad can struggle and fight it all he wants, Aiden is not giving up on him. But as the threads of betrayal unravel, Aiden has his own issues to deal with, and they were severe enough to make me doubt a happy ending was possible for quite a while.

Between Thad and Aiden’s troubled beginning of a relationship, the adventures and dangers they face when entering the Otherworld, and betrayal from more than one source, this story had me glued to the pages. The creative uses of magic and various people’s talents alone make it worth a read, but the sense of danger, the suspense, and the way the whole picture is beginning to come together make it truly fascinating. While a few questions are answered and a couple of riddles solved, I am afraid to report that more than enough is left for the next book. Well, not really afraid – with how much I am enjoying this world and how interesting the characters are, I look forward to more sequels!

If you like the world of the Warlock Brothers of Havenbridge, if you enjoy stories that twist and turn and contain more revelations than you thought possible, and if you’re looking for a read full of suspense, secrets, adventure, betrayal, and discoveries, then you will probably like this novel as much as I do. I am so glad I can go straight to number three in the series!

It's taken me ages to finish up this series lol, maybe I'll plow right into the next one tonight. Luckily the plot is easy to remember.

Jacob Z. Flores' The Warlock Brothers of Havenbridge is a creative paranormal mystery/romance with lots of interesting twists and turns. You'll need to read this one in order though because the story is progressive - though each book focuses on a different sibling.

I was excited to get to continue this series and find out more about this world. And that part certainly didn't disappoint.

What did disappoint was that the juvenile narration during the sex scenes continued. Having every character now in both books tell us exactly how long everyone's penis is every time they have sex just is getting to be silly.

Also, Plenty of opportunities for eye-rolls in this one.

And the fact that the last brother, the big, dumb jock character with disgusting personal habits, is who the third book is about makes me reluctant to finish the series. I'm just not sure my desire to see how it all turns out outweighs just how repulsed I've already been by Pierce and how little I care to spend any time in his head.

Not a huge fan of this one. It was ok. The story was very off for me. Thad is suddenly acting out of character and he doesn't question it, nobody questions it. Ben is an asshole and weird, and nobody questions it. Thad thinks his brothers are dead and decides to have sex with Aiden seconds later. Ooooookaaaaaaaaaaaaay. I skipped that part because it was so not the place for that. There was too much sex for me overall.

I did give this 3 stars because ignoring the above, the story was entertaining (up to a point). I am curious enough to read the next book but I soooo hope it's better than this one. I could keep going but I won't.

Thad Blackmoor is the eldest of the Blackmoor brothers, but he hasn’t felt important for a while. He always held his mother’s attention, but fought to gain his father’s, even more so as their family grew. When their mother died it affected Thad more than anyone in the family, aside from his father. Thad buried his emotions long ago and concentrates on honing his skills so he can be not only the best Warlock, but the best Blackmoor as well. He steps outside of his comfort zone just a teensy bit when he meets a sexy Warlock at a local coffee shop. But it’s another chance encounter with a Fire Fae Prince that finally begins to melt the young Warlocks frozen heart.

It’s not exactly the best time to deal with matters of the heart though. Thad’s new found Fae friend is on the run from a couple of pissed of Banshees. And the shadow weaver that tried to annihilate the Blackmoor clan not so long ago seems to not only still be watching them, he has his sights set on one Blackmoor in particular, Thad. The infamous council sends the Blackmoor brothers along with their new found friends – sexy Warlock and Fire Fae Prince – and Drake, the youngest Blackmoor brother’s boyfriend, into Otherworld to defeat the shadow weaver. Secrets, lies and betrayal run deep as the six young men race to stop the weaver before he succeeds in finishing them off.

It’s always a treat when an Author can mix numerous magical creatures and their particular legends, keep everything straight and manage to keep me entertained throughout. The Warlock Brothers can add demons, Fae and one dark, overbearing jackass to the mix of weavers and Vampyre. And we still don’t know exactly what Drake is. He can’t be spelled, controlled or turned, but he doesn’t give off any vibes to any of the various beings that he might belong to their race.

As if fighting for your life while trying to protect the Gate and Otherworld weren’t enough to drive any one insane, Thad has to deal with his insane attraction to a certain red headed Fae as well as the anger and jealousy pouring of the sexy – it was supposed to be a one night stand – Warlock. Staying focused is difficult, but one missed step could cost them all their lives.

I have to say, this series is very interesting, entertaining and intriguing. A lot of drama and angst mixed with passion and faith. I hope I’m not confusing you with my choice of words, but I don’t want to give certain aspects of the story away, you will have to grab a copy and read for yourself. Definitely worth the read, but read it in order, if you haven’t read Spellbound yet you should start there or you’ll be lost at certain times during this story.

A great mixture of magic, lore and love. It was so good to see Thad climb out of his books and grow in love and power. The Conclave is still keeping way too many secrets. What's the story behind the necklace that Kane took from Aunt Millie? These stories pull the reader in and leave them hungry for the next book.

Blood Tied (Warlocks of Havenbridge #2)
Jacob Z. Flores
Dreamspinner Press, 2015
3.5 stars

The second of the “Warlocks of Havenbridge” series, “Blood Tied” focuses on the middle child of the Blackmore family. Thaddeaus is the brains of the operation, whose strawberry blond hair echoes that of his late mother. Like his older brother, Pierce, he is conveniently bisexual, whereas the baby of the family, Mason, is simply gay. Mason’s relationship with Drake Carpenter, a non-magical human and high school classmate, was the subject of the first book. Both of these teenagers play significant roles in book two.

With this second book, Flores expands the weirdness of the magical world of Havenbridge. Like the fictionalized Massachusetts town of Widdershins in Jordan L. Hawk’s eponymous series, Havenbridge is a focus of magic, through something known as The Gate. We don’t know what that looks like at this point, but I keep imagining a Star Gate-like thing. But, as we all know, magic is a magnet for magical beings, and after an intense same-sex encounter at university, Thad Blackmore finds himself unexpectedly confronted by this truth. On his way home for Hallowe’en (Samhain), Thad has a close encounter with a banshee, from which he is rescued by a fire fairy named Aiden. Thad sends him off, with thanks, and a tingle of lust, into the fae realm of Otherworld, only to have Aiden re-appear suddenly in the middle of the cheerless Samhain ceremony in the Blackmores’ mansion.

Seems that there’s trouble a-brewing in Otherworld, and it appears to be tied directly to the apparently random murders happening in Havenbridge.

The writing is more polished in the second book, and Thaddeus, in his mid-twenties, is a more complex and interesting character than his kid brother Mason. Always the outsider, Thad feels adrift since his mother’s death. However, as the least impulsive and most thoughtful of the Blackmores, his difference from his siblings and father begins to take on great significance as the emerging mess in Otherworld becomes a real threat to the relatively placid New England world of the warlocks.

There’s a lot of well-considered action and excitement in this episode, and the neatly tied up ending leaves the door open for the third installment. With all the interest in magical world-building within the m/m romance community, it’s sometimes hard to keep all the variations straight in one’s mind. I think Flores’ Havenbridge series will be able to hold its own.

Good but not as good as the first book. I think for me the wondering who will be with Thad had me too confused and when I realized what was up, I had to go back and re-read to get in the frame of mind for the romance as it was presented. Because I didn't see him with who he is with... I am odd I guess.

The world of warlocks, witches, wizards, fae and Vampyre was so vivid I could see all that was the Otherworld but man, the Conclave has some series shady shit going on! WTF are they doing with their research/experiments etc.? They really messed up with this business...

I still dig this series. I need to see Pierce get someone who can handle him and show him there is no contest with his brothers and their power. That they are stronger together and I really need book four because... what is up with Drake and what he can do and resist?

In this, the second book, Thad, the brother with the power to freeze and the oldest brother, we see our warlock family still struggling against the vampyren. This time there is an attack on Ben, another warlock and Aiden, a fire fairy.

Unknowingly, Thad attracks the malicious attention of Ben, while hoping for the undivided attention of Aiden.

Thad was hit the hardest by his mother’s death and the seeming inattention of his father. He studies hard and that’s what defines him most days. When he has an unexpected liason with Ben, followed shortly by his immediate attraction to Aiden, everyone is surprised by his actions, including him.

There is much drama following Aiden and (later) Ben, too. The whole family must (again) band together to fight the most recent batch of evil in order to keep Aiden safe.

**

Jacob Flores has done an amazing job with this series. It has a little bit of something for everyone in it. Fantasy, magic, romance, danger… you name it.

This heavily relies on knowledge from book one, so I don’t recommend it as a standalone. The author has created a complicated and intricate world and it’s built upon in book two, from book one.

Solid 2nd book in the series

3 1/2 stars. Blood Tied follows middle brother Thad while continuing the story of the Shadow Weaver that was begun in book 1. Thad finds love and taps into his powers and inner strength while searching for the Shadow Weaver. He and his brothers find out who and what the bad guy is, setting the scene for book 3. All in all not a bad book.

**Grammar**

I dont even know in which language I wrote this review...I'm too lazy to fix it.

Thaddeus is going back home for Samhain(Halloween). All the protector covens are meeting at the Blackmoor's manson for the festivities, and he needs to be with his family since this will be the first Samhain since his mother died.
Is his last day on campus and he decides to relax going to Starbuck, before packing and start driving home. In the bar he meets one of his friends and also Ben. From the first time I saw him, I found him creepy and annoying. He is a stalker and was clear to me from the start that this guy was the big bad in this book. The thing that I couldnt understand was how Thad, that is so proud of his brain and considers himself the smartest guy on the planet(probably) couldnt feel that something was wrong. Thad tells the reader that he isnt used on having one-night stands and that he is not a virgin but was never a bottom. In all his previous relationships with men and women he was always the one in charge, but when Ben comes to his room and pratically invites himself in and then starts to feel him up, he doesnt stop him and seems like a puppet in his hands. He knows that something isnt right but the smart guy doesnt think about doing a spell or checking if Ben did a spell on him, and doesnt find strange the fact that Ben bit him and drank some of his blood.... WTF MAN?
Luckily after that bite Thad tells Ben to slow down. He continues telling us that what he is doing isnst like him and that he wants to stop but he cant, and when Ben stares at him or touches him he feels too aroused to stop him. In the end they have sex, but Thad keeps a bit of his self control and his the one on top. After they are done we see Ben leaving and Thad is so weak that he falls asleep, and wakes up only when his older brother Pierce calls him. Pierce asks him where he is and when he adds that a whole day passed and they were worried bcs he still wasnt home, Thad is shocked and cant understand how this happened. REALLY THAD? you are a warlock and u also know that Ben was one... do the math.

Thad doesnt say anything to his family and just lies telling them that he lost time studying but that now he is getting in the car and will soon be home.
He is driving when he sees a fireball come out of the woods. He knows that something is going on, and the attack is near his house so he needs to find out what is happening. Here we meet Aiden, a fairy fire that is fighting with a banshee, a dark fairy. Thad kills the banshee and then helps the fairy to get up. He has some wounds and Thad tries to heal him, but the man is in a hurry. He tells Thad that he needs to go back home since Otherworld is under attack, but before leaving he tells him that they will see each other again. Thad hopes that the other man is right since he is the most beautiful man he has ever seen.
From the first minutes they are together and their eyes meet we know that they are destined to be together, and both of them feel an incredible attraction towards the other.

Thad is finally back home and there he finds again Ben.... GOD.....
The guy tells him that he is Pierce's friend and that he didnt know they were brothers or that the Blackmoor were his family and Thad believes him. FOR F+++ Sake Thad, WAKE UP!

Ben is still a flirt, but Thad doesnt have time for him since the other covens are cooming soon. He tries to ignore the guy, but is really hard bcs he seems to follow him everywhere.

Now guys I can let pass the fact that maybe the other covens cant understand that Ben is the big bad, but when they get attacked by the banshee again and then the Council comes, and they are all in the same damn room, CAN U EXPLAIN ME HOW, THE MOST POWERFUL of them all cant understand either that Ben is suspicious???

Aiden portal opens in the middle of the room and the fairy interrupts the festivities telling them that Otherworld needs help bcs is under attack. Soon later they get attacked by the banshee.

They cant explain how they banshees got there, or how the dark shadow weaver was able to speak to them and use his powers in the room.No one felt Ben using his powers?doesnt make sense to me.

Soon after the Blackmoor's brothers, with Drake, Ben and Aiden, are sent on a mission to the fairy's kingdom. We now know that Aiden is a prince and that his father is the king of all the fairies. The author tells us a bit about the war btw the humans and the magical creatures and of how the Council feared the fairies' powers and decided to created a world for them where they would be able to use their powers but at the same time no human would attack them again. Aiden explains to Thad that this may be what they Council told them all, but in the end they were just exiled bcs they feared the fairies' powers since unlike warlocks, witches and wizards, the fairies are the magical creatures with the strongest link to the Gate and they are creature of pure magic.

On their journey, towards the Fairy's kingdom they are attacked by the banshee and the vampyres. And if I still could understand why they werent able to find out that Ben was their mole before, now I really cant. They seemed all idiots.

In the end only Aiden and Thad are able to run, while the others get captured and Ben fakes his death.

They need a plan to rescue them, but before that Aiden tells Thad that he need to calm down. We find out that Thad is using his powers without knowing and that he is putting himself and Aiden in danger.
Luckily for him, his link with Aiden is strong and the other man words and touches are able to stop him.
Aiden tells him that something is wrong with him and Thad replies that he knows and that he doesnt know what is happening. Aiden arrives to the conclusion that someone used blood magic on him but Thad cant understand how that was possible or when the dark shadow weaver could have done it. THAD MY FRIEND, DO YOU REMEMBER THE BITE?

Aiden has a solution, he is sure that a link btw them would be stronger than this dark magic and Thad agrees. They end up having sex, and while we know that they are doing it to sever the link of the shadow weaver, we also know that they make love bcs they have feelings for each other. Aiden always told Thad that the fairies dont do relationships but like to have more partners, but all the time he watched Ben and Thad interact he was jealous and considered Thad, his. Thad also being under this powerful magic and with Ben flirting with him 24/7, from the first time he met Aiden, started to take a distance from Ben and nothing happens btw then after that first time together on the campus.

Thad asks Aiden to be on top and gives himself to him like he never did before with someone else. They dont tell each other that they are in love but us readers can understand it.

We find out why Ben attacked the Fairy'land. He needs the talisman that was used to created their world. Dunno why, the author doesnt tell us yet.

Ben is attacking the castle and Thad with Aiden try to help the fairies, destroying the blood magic Ben used on them all. While Thad is helping them, Aiden and Ben fight and the dark warlock takes the fairy fire with him.

Too late Thad will find out that Ben changed Aiden in a vampyre, well an hybrid. We still dont know his full powers, but we understand that Aiden isnt like any other vampyre, sice he is able to rein in his nature and not kill Thad, but help him fight Ben.

With his and Drake's help ( the guy cant be turned or spelled but we still dont know why or what he really is), they are able to save his brothers, but not all goes as they planned since Ben is able to run away.

Aiden is now an hybrid and his sire(his father), also if he loves him , cant let him stay on their land. He is banished and Thad's father tells him that he can live with them. Sure they are still scared of his powers and of his new nature, but at the same time they know that his feelings for Thad will help him.

The book ends with Aiden and Thad making love and the warlock asking him to drink from him. Aiden is reluctant, he is scared of hurting his lover, but Thad can defend himself, his powers grow since he met Aiden and he is also sure that the other man would never hurt him, he already proved it when they were fighting with Ben and Aiden refused to obey his order to kill him.

The book wasnt bad, but I liked more the first one. Sometimes I found Thad annoying, a little proud and selfish ass. I can understand that he was lonely after his mother died, and decided to avoid feelings since loving someone only hurt when they left u, but sometimes he just acted like a baby, while he should be at least 25 or near it. I couldnt understand how a guy so smart(so he says) didnt find out about Ben sooner.

The only thing that made sense to me, was the fact that after he almost killed Mason with his powers when they were kids, he had stopped trying to master them, and had hidden himself behind a book, and when we see him fighing Ben and summon more power that he thought he had I found normal to see him surprised.

This wasn't as good as the first book. First didn't like how Thad and Aidan just goes and does it moments after Thad's brother might be dead? That lost me big time.

Length: 220
POV: Thad, 1st person
Star rating: ★★★★☆

For me, this one didn't have the same impact that book 1 had. While I loved Mason from page one in book 1, I found that Thad's entire personality changed in this book to make him a lot more mysterious and far more erratic than he'd been previously. It made it hard to figure him out and also to keep track of what was going on around him.

I'll admit that two of the biggest secrets and twists in the story were a little obvious to me. From early on, I knew that Thad was being manipulated and in what way. I also knew that there was an item being used that shouldn't have been anywhere near the family and, I confess, I knew the identity of the shadow weaver after the first banshee attack. However, I was still eager to find out if I was right and how all those things worked together.

And while, in any movie or book or TV show that I watch, I'd normally be furious that two main characters failed to share an important piece of information with each other – both in book 1 and here in book 2 – meaning that no one knew how important it was, I can't be angry in this case. Because, for one, us readers are the only ones who know the true importance of that item, because the brothers never figured it out, as it seems completely inconsequential. But, also, I accept the argument Thad puts forward at the end of this book about keeping certain information to himself (after realising it's importance; thank you for that, Flores!) because it keeps his entire family safer. Though they could figure out what was going on better if they shared their information, the logic is sound and reasonable. Especially with everything else that's been going on with the Conclave and the mistrust brewing all over the place.

Again, the characters were interesting. I loved that we still got to see Mason and Drake, Pierce and their father, too. But we also got a whole host of new characters – the feisty Ben, Gerard making an appearance and Aiden the fire fae. They were all interesting in their own right, but some more than others and in ways I hadn't expected.

It was also great to see new creatures, beyond the shadow weaver and vampyren's of the first book. Here, we got to see Fae, Fire Fae, Banshees and even more of the vampyren's. Each added a unique slant to the story and provided even more information that will bring the final pieces together eventually.

I liked the love triangle between Thad, Ben and Aiden, but I do feel that it was heavily slanted in Aiden's favour right from the start. Thad's connection to Ben was obviously unnatural, without either acknowledging it, while Aiden confessed to the small part that his heritage played in putting a spell around Thad on their first meeting. And, I'm sorry to say, that this was one of the reasons I lowered my rating to a 4 – I just didn't believe the love triangle as something that Thad had to deal with. Half the time he forgot Ben even existed. Perhaps if there had been more of an equal pull between both men or we hadn't been given so many hints towards the choice Thad would eventually make, it would have kept up the intrigue for that part of the story a little longer.

I didn't feel the same chemistry between Thad and Ben or Thad and Aiden as Mason and Drake shared in book 1, which seems strange since there's so much more that an older couple, not in their teens, can share in that department. It just felt a little too organised. Magically influence, even, rather than the natural progression of book 1.

With the few small issues mentioned above, I had to deduct some points from my review, despite enjoying the overall story and the continuation of the plot arc from book 1. There was still incredible world building, great characterisation, impressively wonderful writing that sucked me into the story and a whole heck of adventure and hotness to keep the fires burning.

4.5 Heart Review by Maieke

Thad has been a bit of a coldhearted prick for most of his life, except with his mother. But since his mother died, he has had no one to thaw his heart and make him smile. But then he meets Ben in the coffee shop near his dorm room. They hook up but it leaves a bad taste in his mouth and his mind. Something was off about the encounter, which had left him unconscious for about twenty-four hours.

Driving home he stumbles into a fight between a fairy and a banshee. Thad vanquishes the banshee and saved the fairy, who he finds out is Aiden–– a fire fairy. When Thad arrives home, Ben is there. And even if Thad immediately feels aroused again around Ben, something just doesn’t add up.

When Aiden shows up unexpectedly with banshees following him, the shadow weaver turns up, and the Conclave makes their appearance, Thad knows the situation is bad. The Conclave sends them to the fairy world fully expecting them all to die.

I’m not going to tell you any more about what happens there, but I can tell you Jacob Flores has a vivid imagination. So much happens, so many strange beings, and so much world building goes on in this book. It’s amazing.

Then why give it half a star less than the first one in this series, you ask? Well, that’s because the relationship between Thad and Aiden is less intense in my opinion. To me it read just a tiny bit less ‘romantic’ or however you want to call it. (yes I’m such a girl right now.)

Thad makes a journey, not only through another dimension but also a very personal one. He learns a whole lot about himself and his reasons for being the aloof person that he is. He learns how to open up and feel, especially how to love again.

We see Mason and Pierce, Drake and all the others from the previous book. I can’t wait to see more of Pierce and I hope Jacob also writes stories about Adam and Elliot. I love Elliot.

But still this book will steal your heart away. The moment Aiden gets taken by Ben, I wanted to cry. When he turns out to be… Oh yeah, I wasn’t supposed to spoil the rest of the book any more than I already did, right? Hmmm, let’s just say that one minute I was all like: NOOOOOOOO and the next it was, Yes yes yes yes.

The ending is not perfect, but it is heart warming and tear inducing. The only thing I didn’t like is that it ended before Aiden was completely secure in his new life, and we never got to see how he adjusted after he ‘mated’ with Thad. We do read that he has adjusted enough to be safe and welcome. But I would’ve like more, like I always want more when a book is good.

So yes, a must read. So much yes. This series is promising to become one of my favorites.

Review can be read at It's About The Book

Thad Blackmoor needs to go home for Samhain. When he has a one night stand with Ben he doesn’t expect he’ll spend an extra day sleeping it off. Thad has to get home ASAP. Going home for the holidays is bittersweet after the loss of his mother. On his way home Thad is able to save a fire fairy, Aiden, from a banshee attack. Upon arriving at home Thad has to help his dad set up for the holiday and the rituals. Thad is very shocked to see Ben is a guest of his older brother, Pierce. It’s an odd coincidence to say the very least. Thad is immediately mistrustful of Ben and does his best to protect family secrets. As it’s one of the important holidays, the other local magical families will be showing up. They all tolerate each other and nothing more. When a battered Aiden shows up the delicate balance of the holiday goes to crap and to top it off Otherworld is under attack. That’s when the banshees show up.

After all the families decide something seriously hinky is going on they decide to contact the Conclave. Something hinky is definitely going on and the Conclave is aware of it. They had some hopes that wasn’t what was happening, but they know the score. The Conclave decides the Blackmoor brothers are best suited to going to Otherworld and neutralizing the threat. Unfortunately, it could neutralize the Blackmoor brothers.

Holidays with big extended families are miserable. It doesn’t matter how magical you are or how dire the straits of the world are, holidays can really be horrible. Thad was surrounded by his big, dysfunctional, extended, magical family while stuck between a one night stand and a fairy he felt he could really like. It wasn’t pretty. Then the Conclave shows up and suddenly everyone feels like they’re stuck at the kids’ table again waiting for what the grown ups have planned. It doesn’t help that the Conclave has known what they’ve all been up against this whole time. It also doesn’t help to learn the Conclave helped create the disaster.

I had a little trouble liking Thad. I get he was in a similar situation as Mason, dealing with the death of his mother amidst a serious threat to the magical realms, but his iceman style was a touch off-putting. I did like that as a person who felt the intense need to control himself he found himself in so many situations in which he couldn’t control himself. Much like Mason and his desperate need to be cool and grown up continually found himself looking like an idiot. It makes me wonder what humiliation is in store for Pierce.

So, again, despite the immediacy of the situation being resolved, there are still serious problems looming for the Blackmoor family and the sons’ new beaus. Mason and Thad have grown to be extremely powerful warlocks and their boyfriends are… other. I’m a little fascinated with this set up.

My Thoughts on Blood Tied

I just finished reading Blood Tied and the only thing that is going through my head is Thad Blackmoor is a pillar of ice, you know why, because for some reason after he thinks his brothers are dead instead of feeling a sliver of anger, that he should be feeling considering how he had given into his feelings, he is completely normal and is in fact so blissed-out that he and Aiden have sex together for the first time right after that but not as a means of feeling alive after such a close encounter with death that killed his two brothers. I mean does this guy even know that his brothers are dead, oh yes he does, then why is he not feeling anything.

Ditto when Aiden enters the Hearth and everything is deadly quiet but not a flicker of unease on Aiden's face, Why? Now I must agree that I actually have no idea if his castle is always this quiet or of if he was uneasy and just hiding it well but I would have liked some emotion on his part that Thad should picked up and related to us when it was clear that something was wrong in the Hearth, I mean did Aiden always walk into the Hearth with a barrage of angry voices from people hiding in shadows? And Thad should definitely be so angry that it feels like molten lava in his veins when The Shadow Weaver is tossing his boyfriend about like a rag doll but zilch. I mean he is a Warlock for God's sake and he was acting more zen than a wizard.

But that is also my only problem with this book.

While Mason and Drake remain my favourites, I will agree that Thad and Aiden also made for an interesting couple.

I loved the plot of this book. There were a lot of things happening and we got a lot of answers too but the coolest thing in this book have got to be Thad's powers they were awesome and I loved that his brains had him doubling and tripling his powers so fast. It was cool seeing his powers grow.

Also I got my one big, extended, dysfunctional family reference from Thad regarding the Protector Covens, so basically I love him for that. And I absolutely loved how all 15 of them had to fight together and how powerful these people are, I mean they don't realise it but if they work hand-in-hand like Mason suggested in the first book they will be a force to be reckoned with.

Also another Conclave appearance, a lot more questions raised but only a few answered. I can't wait to see where this series takes us. At this point in the books I really want to see how these people will defeat the big bad because it will make for an amazing read.

Blood Tied is the second book in Jacob Z. Flores’s The Warlock Brothers of Havenbridge series.

Thad’s story. I was a little surprised by it. It wasn’t at all what I expected and nothing at all, really, like book one, which has ups and downs. For the most part I read this book and enjoyed it because of the first book. Thad brought his own party and drama to the table and it’s good. But the world began in the first book and I’m glad it continued here.

Thad is the brother I cared least about in the first book. He’s quiet and a bit of an ass, but then again, I seem to migrate toward those characters. He didn’t get a lot of page time in book one, so most of what we know about him before starting this book was that he’s a loner. But thankfully, there is so much more to him than that. I dare to say, outside of his father, Thad’s mother’s death affected him the most. And it shaped him into who he has become. To call him power hungry would be incorrect. He wants to be the most powerful, but not in order to take over the world or anything like that, mostly to prove to himself that he can and to prove to his family that he’s worth something. Enter Aiden. Aiden is the light in Thad’s dark, focused world. Before Aiden stormed into his life, Thad was on a path to destruction that no one, not even Thad, saw coming. Aiden showed him what love and opening himself up could do.

Jacob Flores has written a wonderful sequel to his Warlock Brothers Series Again in Thad Blackmoor’s POV we start at Samhain, getting ready for his holiday trip home…Thad meets two new people in his life. The first is Ben, a sexy warlock who he meets in a local coffee shoppe before heading home to his family. Then there is Aiden, who he meets on the road home….along with a mess of Banshees trying to kill them.

Arriving at the estate, again we meet the family, his brothers, his Dad and Drake and a surprise guest of his brother Pierce’s…. Ben…what a co-inky-dink…..

The Samhain event with all the families brings on more surprises and we are led on an adventure to save the Order, the Fey and the world…..

Jacob you have a great imagination, it speaks from a young man’s voice. It has youth, lust and a gentle understanding of hope…. I cannot wait till the next episode

I loved it….

The second story with the three Blackmoor brothers, this time we get the middle brother, Thad.
Thad Blackmoor tries hard to control his emotions, but losing his mother who also happened to be his best friend has left him lost in life. So when one-night-stand Ben pushes for more at the same time that Thad meets Aiden who asks for nothing but will be offered everything. Thad is pretty confused. We got Mason the high school-er dealing with high school stuff, and Thad is a college graduate student dealing with more adult issues while working on the Vampyre mystery and falling in love.
I really liked Aiden Teine, the fae, although in the end he seems less interesting without his family issues and it was a bit too neatly tied up for how they get Aiden to live in the Blackmoor house.
I didn't really like the road trip part of the story. Spell Bound is still the better story IMO.

Thad was a warlock who had no idea how much power he really possessed until he meets Aiden. I really liked his character, he is very strong but also caring. Even though at first I was kind of iffy about him.

Aiden who was a fire fairy who cares deeply for Thad. I really liked this character also.

Now the big bad guy in this book... Yea I guessed who he was at the beginning of this story. But I still really enjoyed this story. You get a lot of action/ mystery and lot's of paranormal creatures in this book.

This book had all my favorite paranormal and fantasy aspects in it.

I would definitely recommend this book!

This book features the middle brother, Thad, in which he goes to the otherworld to fight the Shadow Weaver and his minions. This was definitely much more "adult" than the first book with a lot more sex (if I remember correctly, there weren't any vivid sex scenes in the first book). The book itself was well-written, with good character development. It seemed to end rather abruptly, however, with no real resolution of the plot (apparently, we need to read the next three books in the series for that to happen). I'm not a fan of cliffhangers so that aspect didn't work for me. But all in all, not a bad book if you're invested in reading the entire series.
