Three years ago, Chase Gallardo ran toward freedom with his fellow survivors after having spent five months in captivity. He hasn’t stopped running since. Only now, it’s the memories he’s constantly trying to escape. Haunting echoes of a man who forced Chase to play the part of another, the kidnapper’s younger brother. Chase may have survived, but that doesn’t mean he’s really living. Until one day, when his employee tells him there’s a man sitting at the bar, wearing only underwear.

Remy Stahl has given up—almost. For a year, alcohol, drugs, and faces without names have kept him company. But he has two friends who refuse to give up on him, and they lock him up in his house in an attempt to save him from himself. Though, never underestimate an addict’s desire to see the bottom of another bottle. Remy escapes, and he doesn’t give a rat’s ass that he’s nearly naked.

This is the sequel to Aftermath, where Cam and Austin met, struggled, and fell in love. Outcome takes us back to Bakersfield with Chase and Remy’s story. Fueled by anger, guilt, and shame, they’re not off to an easy start. But it’s only a matter of time before they learn how much they need each other in order to move on.

I'm often stoically silent or, if the topic interests me, a chronic rambler. In other words, I can discuss writing forever and ever. Fiction, in particular. The love story—while a huge draw and constantly present—is secondary for me, because there's so much more to writing romance fiction than just making two (or more) people fall in love and have hot sex. There's a world to build, characters to develop, interests to create, and a topic or two to research thoroughly. Every book is a challenge for me, an opportunity to learn something new, and a puzzle to piece together. I want my characters to come to life, and the only way I know to do that is to give them substance—passions, history, goals, quirks, and strong opinions—and to let them evolve. Additionally, I want my men and women to be relatable. That means allowing room for everyday problems and, for lack of a better word, flaws. My characters will never be perfect.

Wait…this was supposed to be about me, not my writing.

I'm a writey person who loves to write. Always wanderlusting, twitterpating, kinking, and geeking. There's time for hockey and cupcakes, too. But mostly, I just love to write.

Angst in spades, you all!

Outcome wasn't violent like the first book, and there was closure not just for Chase and Remy but for Cam and Austin too.

The first half of the book overflowed with melodrama. Remy was a fucking mess, drinking himself half to death, going through the motions, pretending he needed no one.

Chase was deeply in the closet, still trying to please his failure of a father.

When Chase finally decides to talk to Remy, there's clashing and angst and tears and GUILT. Did I mention GUILT? Because, yeah, both men blame themselves for just about everything.

Remy was an utter asshole at the beginning; if he'd pushed Chase away any harder, he would have dented cement. But Chase didn't cave, didn't lash out, and once he broke through Remy's defenses, it was beautiful.

The angst was worth it, because once these guys got together about halfway through, they were RIGHT and HOT together, SO DAMN HOT. Their first time was SEXY as all fuck.

I liked the secondary characters, including Remy's friends Andy and Minna, Chase's sister Adriana, and Chase's employee Donna.

The theme, while not original, still rang true: Family is what you make it.

Both Remy and Chase come to realize this, and that, along with their trust in and LOVE for each other, helps them heal.

Dee smashed it out of the park with the epilogue in Aftermath, but the epilogue here didn't disappoint either.

I loved seeing Austin and Cam again, although I don't think the random chapters from their POV were necessary. The POV shifts between Remy and Chase were enough, even a little confusing at times.

Bottom line: angsty, but also steamy, powerful, and ultimately romantic read.

Worth the wait for sure!

The only thing Remy does these days involves spending money on booze and drugs. He feels ashamed, he feels guilty for what his brother (you know him as the Psycho) did to those men! He thinks because he was related to that psycho, so it means he’s a bad guy too! He tried to apologize to Chase (one of those men) but after Chase told him Don’t ever contact me again everything got worse!

He’d gone from a relatively carefree twenty-seven-year-old to a shell of a man who had aged ten years overnight.

I didn’t enjoy this one as much as the first book because it wasn’t a steady read for me. It started to drag for me after a while, And Austin and cam’s POV didn’t help either! Told in multiple POV, 3rd person. It’ the second installment in the "Aftermath" series, it can be read as a standalone but I think it’s better if you read it in order! It’s a bit angsty with likable characters. Overall, it was a good read and hope you enjoy it as well!

After reading Aftermath 3 times, I figured it was time to move on to Outcome. It scared me. I wasn't sure how I felt about these two guys ending up together.

I have to say, I didn't like this one as much as book 1. I think because the majority of the book we are dealing with Remy's addiction in one way or another. I'm glad the author didn't magically cure him with a magical dick. BUT, I felt there was a lot of emphasis on him getting better instead of actual romance which is what I wanted. I know Remy had issues and Chase did too. Both of which needed to be dealt with. But I needed to see more of them coming together as a couple instead of constantly having to fight for their sanity.

Overall, I enjoyed it but I didn't love it as much as Aftermath.

I didn’t like this one quite as much as book 1, but it was still a nice addition to the series.

But we did get a bit more Cam and Austin so....#winning!

This one was pretty angsty and dealt with addiction - which I really don’t care to read about. So I think my lack of enjoyment (or less enjoyment) was because of that.

Still great writing....and a good overall read.

First of all, I just gotta say that I LOVE Kindle Unlimited because I got to read two (count them), TWO 4+ star reads today (this and rock) for $0.00 USD aka FREE...

description

...well not technically free as there is that pesky $9.99/month charge...but I digress.

Back to my "review" now.

I really liked Outcome a lot...although not as much as I liked Aftermath. camforever!

Remy was a tatted up dreamboat and Chase was a motorcycle riding piece of bag-punching man meat...swoooooooon.

description

And their scenes together?

Double swoon.

description

I only wish there had been a little bit more relationship development in the middle...the end of the of the book was decent (if a little abrupt?) and the first 25% of the book was pretty much dominated by Remy's addiction to chemical happiness and his love of the liquid spirits, namely vodka.

description

At the end of the book, there are some answers provided to questions lingering from the first book...so the characters - and us readers - got some much desired closure, which was cool.

Other than that, another solid read from Cara Dee.

I am wondering if she will continue with this series or not. If she does, I don't know that it will be realistic to maintain the m/m genre...Landon (Cam's brother) was already joking that there might be "something in the water" there in Dee's version of Bakersfield.

------- Original Review July 2016 -------
Outcome is all about family. And not necessarily the people related to you. I always enjoy books that illustrate that family are those that really have your back, regardless of their relation. I've found that to be true in my own life and so I can especially relate to stories that have that theme.

Remy is a hot mess in Outcome. He's bent on self destruction because he feels responsible for what his half brother, Ben, did, because Remy gave him money. Remy has spent his life trying to get his family to accept him, but all they ever did was use him. It takes him awhile to see that they are not family at all. His true family are the ones that care enough to cuff him to a bed and make him sober up and reassess his life.

Chase is also a bit of a mess. In his case, though, he just isn't dealing. He is ignoring the aftermath of his captivity and his feelings of shame for being attracted to men. His homophobic father has been dead for more than a decade, but Chase hasn't really moved on. And he's not happy.

So, yeah, Remy and Chase have a lot of shit to work through. I found their journey worth the pain, though. They both get family and closure.

There is one thing that was wrapped up a bit too neatly, though, and it bugged me.

Overall, I thought Outcome was quite good and wrapped up the story line quite nicely. Recommended.

If your mindset is not the best I wouldn't recommend this book, it got a lot of self-harm, drugs, drinking, and homofobia, things that could be a trigger for some. I liked the first book a lot more, but this was okay, in this book we have one of the survivors feeling attraction for the brother of the men who kidnapped him. One of the things I didn't like much about this book is one of the characters (you will understand who) is super annoying, one point wants one thing, then do an 180 and wants another. This type of characters are really annoying to me.

As much as I loved the first book, this did not work for me at all. I can’t believe I managed to finish it.

The multiple POVs. The randomness of the pairing. Why did Remy care so much about Chase? Why did Chase bother with Remy at all? It all felt forced. And then once they got together, I completely lost interest in the story.
Yawn.

Possible spoilers ahead.

First of all, such a snooze fest! Besides Cam and Austin's hot times this book is boring me to death!

Also, WTF? They keep Remy for "Weeks. Fucking weeks. " cuffed to a bed by the leg like a dog? I don't care it's for his own good or whatever, this is BULSHIT!! Nope, I don't like it! uh, uh!

Maybe it gets better along the way but I DON'T CARE because of the way Remy's "friends" keep him tied. Even if that's what they do in specialized institutions like rehab, at least those people are trained and know what the fuck they're doing!

The reason I'm giving this 2 stars instead of one is because the quality of the writing is good, it really is. But the story itself is awful! At least IMO.

That's it!

This is the kind of awesome read I look forward to when I read a Cara Dee M/M book. I don't know when her next one is coming out, but I am waiting impatiently!

I hope this series isn't done or I'm hoping at least for a spin off. There were a lot of interesting characters. When it comes to character development, Cara Dee delivers HUGE. Her cast of characters are always so lively and memorable.

BRAVO Cara you did it again!

Going into this book I kept having to remind myself that this wasn't Cam & Austin or Aftermath. These were two new guys in a situation that I was familiar with but an entire new story. Boy is that hard to do when you've feel in love with Aftermath and probably re-read that story so many time. Chase & Remy were so guilt ridden on both parts. How I like to associate the two is Chase is ashamed & Remy is heavily guilty.

The first 50% of the story wasn't what I thought it would be,it was both self destructing in numerous ways. Remy was so caught up in blaming himself that he decided to kill himself without actually trying in my opinion. He is an alcoholic and self medicating. Remy is on a downward spiral and going fast. When I said he was trying to kill himself without actually doing it because be's a person that is spiraling bad but cares enough to tell a complete stranger to double up on the condoms while having sex. What happens? Two people who care about him the most intervene in the smartest way possible. Remy is just lost. He is guilty about giving the money to Ben that funded his whole kidnapping mess. In the end he does make a break through and is great. He and Chase were able to make some adjustments about themselves for themselves and I liked it. Chase I think the kidnapping was not so much big as it was to the others. I think Chase whole mind was wrapped in out he was captured. Basically his father was an homophobic asshole who couldn't support his family. Those thoughts drove Chase to hide his sexuality for 20 years, until that urge got him kidnapped. While this wasn't Aftermath and by that I mean the attraction we see there, these two attractions were there but overshadowed by the things that happened to them. I really did like it. Hopefully we get a book 3. I don't know with who but if I could choose I definitely want it to me with Cam & Austin.

The second installment of the Aftermath series. I was expecting a pretty boring, yet angsty book. Because in Aftermath we have the kidnapping and the after effects, so what on earth could we have in the second book? But this book was better than I expected. I pictured Remy as a pretty regular guy after seeing a glimpse on him in Aftermath. Boy, was I wrong!

I absolutely adored Remy. He was short, tattooed, had dark hair and was a master in sarcasm.

Remy is all kinds of fucked up. He has had a terrible childhood, blames himself for the kidnapping his brother did, and thinks he can drown himself in drugs and drinking.

And then we have Chase. Chase is a biker who owns his own bar. He is also one of the men who was kidnapped 3 years ago by Remy's brother.

Together, they must find a way to heal. This works best trough talking and hot sex of course.

And boy, did I enjoy the sex parts. These two were smoking hot together! I mean.. hello, there were nipple piercings!

The story dragged a bit in the second half and was not as exciting as the first half. But overall, I really enjoyed it and would definitely recommend it to anyone who has read Aftermath.

This wasn't what I expected.

I was looking for a really angsty book, this past weeks had been angsty for me so yeah read angsty book help me, in my mind that work so shut up.

Book this wasn't like that, I remember a couple of months ago when I read the first one and the sensation that this books have in me.

We have here Chase, he is one of the survivors of the kidnapping of a crazy person, I was really curious about him so I decide to give it a try.

The other men is Remy, he is the psycho half brother, and the history is 3 years after the first book.

It was really beautiful see these two mens really fighting to be alive to just be normal, toward the end I was a smiling mess more the a agnsty book is a comfy book and I really liked it.

Beautiful, beautiful story.

I raced through this immediately after book 1 and it really worked - we got to see a nice amount of Austin and Cam living their HEA and some more insight into their abduction. Their happiness balanced the rough start to Chase and Remy’s relationship. There is lot of hard times with a big focus on all the guilt both men feel, lots of deeply buried emotional hurt and Remy’s addiction battle to cope with it all. It’s an interesting viewpoint on the abduction scenario from the first book, getting the abductors brother’s view. I enjoyed this a lot, it hit differently to book 1 but still impactful and really hard to put down.

I would love someone to explain to me the abductors letters at the end though. His reasons for taking them seem contradictory to the scenes in book 1 when he discovers Austin has an MBA. Sounds like he knew all that?? I’m confused.

This was meh for me. The usual spark between the MCs was missing. I didn’t believe they really belonged together.

At least we had lots of Austin and Cam in this, it made the overall story better. Chase and Remy were like oil and water. Sadly, I just didn’t really like either character. This had a million cliches in it too. It was pretty annoying. Meh.

This book is about Chase who was kidnapped by the psycho Ben Stahl, and that psycho's half brother Remy.
Remy is a mess after 3 years since the kidnapping. He's bent on self destruction because he feels responsible for what Ben did to those ten men.
Chase is also a bit of a mess. But thanks to his new bar and the friendship of Cam and Austin, he is slowly taking steps towards recovery. But something is still missing, and when he sees the half-naked Remy at the bar one day, he realizes what that is.
This book gives closure not just to Chase and Remy but to Cam and Austin, and to all the other kidnapped guys too.

I loved Chase and Remy's story. I think I liked it even better than the first book, but I loved that one also. I think I liked this one better because we don't get all the kidnapping flashbacks. Not that I didn't like them in the first book, but this one focused more on the present. Remy was I mess, but I couldn't help but love him from the very beginning. He is so fucked up, but so is Chase, he's just dealing with his shit a bit better. Loved how there relationship evolved. And another plus, was that we got some Austin and Cam in this book !! I love Cam as a daddy :)
The steam was really good and sweet. 4 stars from me :)

This was a wonderful story of Acceptance and moving forward. I loved Chase, he was sweet, caring, and hard working. Remy was harder to love at the start, I usually like broken MCs packed with sarcasm but Remy's sarcastic remarks just annoyed me, there were a few times where I wanted to shake the shit out of him, but I ended up adoring him nonetheless. Both characters were not perfect, there were few instances where you wont like them but there's growth and development, it's hard not to like them. I also loved that they're not suddenly okay, there was struggle and relapse, their healing progress was realistic. It was also wonderful to see Cam, Austin, and Riley again. I enjoyed reading this as well, I enjoyed all the books from Cara Dee that I've read so far and this author has me completely hooked!

“You can very well open up a person's mind to new possibilities, but change comes from within. Regardless of what is right and wrong, only you can decide to change your behavior or rethink something you have planned to do.”

This book wasn’t what I was expecting, but it was still pretty good! Based on the description I thought things would go a bit differently but no matter.

Remy and Chase were good protagonists although I found that I had the same issues that I did with the characters in book one, I didn’t particularly connect with either of them. Their dynamic was pretty interesting because Chase was the victim and yet a lot of this book was about Remy getting better not Chase.

“Anger was easy. Anger could be masked as strength.”

I really liked the glimpses into the past in terms of why the kidnappings happened, but there were no flashbacks of the actual 5 months which I sort of expected to see.

I also loved the character appearances from the book one characters. I always love seeing characters from new perspectives as well as seeing them outside of the main book conflicts, so that was nice.

He asked Julie if she had any aces, which she hadn't, and soon enough it was Riley's turn. "Chase," she said sweetly, "fork over your aces, please." "I second that," Chase told Landon. "This ain't right." He gave away his aces. "Suh-weet!" Riley lay down her four aces to add in her collection. "I'm getting rich here.”

Such a wonderful book!

We met Chase in book one after he escaped the hell-hole that Ben Stahl had kept him and nine other poor men captive in for five months. It's now three years after they all escaped and we have the amazing opportunity to see where time has taken Chase, Austin and Cam.

Austin and Cam are as in love as they have ever been. They're so strong together, and their therapist is still there to help them whenever they feel they need a little support.

Then there's Remy, who has been devastated and plagued with guilt over what his half-brother Ben had done to all of those men. Could he have stopped Ben, if he'd just asked what the money was for? Did his actions when they were younger somehow cause Ben to act as he did?
He has tortured himself with questions like this for years and it has slowly torn him apart. He sadly turned to drink and drugs to try and forget.

Chase has now opened his own bar, which has made him very happy. However, he cannot move any further forward with his life until he get's some answers. Why was he taken? Is it because he is gay? A fact that his very own father made him ashamed to be. He has hidden his whole life and even after his fathers death, the abduction and subsequent degradation from Ben about being gay, he still cannot bring himself to tell a soul he is gay. It's heart breaking.

Remy is bought home by his friends to detox and that's where he meets Chase again...
Chase and Remy slowly start to talk. About who they are and the impact that Ben had on both of their lives. They find comfort in each other when nothing else has worked. Comfort, trust, honesty and love is something that has desperately been missing from both of their lives and seeing them grow so close was an absolute joy!

This isn't an easy, fluffy romance. It's hard, deep, passionate and intense. There are more hard times than anything else at first, but it's amazing to watch them both face their demons and come into their own, separately and as a couple.

'Chase dipped low to kiss his skin. "You're beautiful. A beautiful fucking mess." The words wrecked Remy.'

I loved every minute!!

Pre-Release:
I LOVE when you unexpectedly find out that a book you adore has a sequel in the works!! I was intrigued by Chase's character in Aftermath and CAN NOT WAIT to see what comes next...

Now release day has arrived and....
Surprise, surprise - Read in a day, just like its predecessor! That's the mark of a good book. I truly love this series. The plot is original and, at times, heartbreakingly intense, the characters are loveable and well fleshed out, the multi-narratives are effortlessly interwoven, and HURRAY for HEA's!! I'm feeling all sorts of satisfied right now!

4.5 stars. Another terrific story from Cara Dee, I loved it!

I've looked forward to reading this since I finished Aftermath, Austin & Cam's story, and Outcome did not disappoint.

At the beginning, I couldn't see how anything would ever work out for Chase and Remy. Chase Gallardo was living in his own aftermath of the kidnapping by Ben Stahl but he was doing it by avoiding. Avoiding connections with others (except for his sister), avoiding his nightmares, avoiding even thinking about the holding pattern his life is in.

Remy Stahl does nothing but think about his life. Even when it's in the background, he's consumed with "what-ifs". He holds himself responsible for what his half-brother did and, unable to deal with the guilt, is trying to escape by burying himself with drugs & alcohol.

I loved both Remy and Chase. Chase had always thought himself weak for not having the courage to reveal to his family that he was gay, for fear of disappointing his father. But in meeting Remy, and deciding to take charge of his life again and confront his ghosts, he found strength he never knew he had. Not just for himself but for Remy too. Remy was a little harder to love at the start. He was so full of self-loathing it made him bitter and ugly even with those that loved him, because he wanted them to hate him as much as he did himself.

But that's one of the things I loved most about this, the growth both Remy and Chase went through. The relationships that developed, not just with each other, but opening up to friends and family and finding out that it's ok to lean on others, finding acceptance by accepting.

The plot unfolded in a way that felt natural and easy, even when things were tense, and events played out in a way that felt everyday-real and believable. Things weren't always perfect but everyone looked out for each other, teaching both Chase and Remy that family wasn't always blood. The secondaries were really well done with some awesome personalities, and it was fun getting little glimpses into Austin & Cam's life, and I was so happy with the way everything worked out, for all of them.

I don't know what else Cara has planned for the series, but I definitely look forward to whatever is next.

I breezed through the first book of this series as I absolutely loved it. With this one the second book I really wasn't really sure. I was disappointed, I liked it but I didn't love it.

Three years later after 10 men where captured and tortured by the Ben Stahl who is off his rocker, Chase is doing well, well he thinks that he is. Chase is friends with Cam and Austin. He has opened his own bar and is trying to live his life. He has his demons and due why he thinks that he was kidnapped he is so far in the closet that he is literally in Narnia.

Remy Stahl has tried to make ammends to Chase but Chase at that given point of time wasn't interested and needed to blame someone. Remy has been spiralling out of control. He sold his company in Bakersfield and moved to L.A. and turned to drugs and alcohol just to forget. He has so much guilt that he wants to kill himself in a slow and painful death.

Minna and Andreas try to sav him by handcuffing him to the bed. He manages to escape and ups in Chases's bar in his boxers and nothing more. This is the first time they see one another after three years.

They fight their demons together and seperately and they are good together as a couple. If there is a third book I will still read it anyway.

An incredible follow-up to Aftermath. Remy is consumed with guilt because of what his half-brother did to the men he kidnapped. He's living in a haze of drugs and alcohol when his two closest friends stage their own intervention.

Chase is just starting to get his life back together after being held captive and tortured by a psychopath three years ago when Remy crosses his path after escaping his own "kidnappers." Chase decides this is the perfect opportunity to get some answers and maybe move on. He doesn't count on the intense attraction and the need to help Remy overcome his own demons.

I loved how they came together and the flow of the story. Two battered and abused men battling their demons that needed each other to heal. We also got another facet on Ben's story and why he choose the men he did. Such a great story!
