Claire O’Connell is an extremely young, hardworking, and successful salon owner. She has amassed a great deal of her success due to her family support and her unwillingness to be second best to anyone. The problem comes when she’s overtaxed and needs help. Who better to rely on, but your friends who work for her?
Travis Williams is a Federal Agent who meets the woman of his dreams purely by mistake. There’s one big problem, she’s the daughter of the family he investigated in his rookie year. However, to him, she is worth being related to a crook. From their first date, life-threatening events are at every turn.
The only way to keep her safe is to work with the enemy.
"Burning For Claire" is the story of Claire and Travis.
Sooo.. hMM..
H is basically an undercover cop, who had investigated the h's mafia family in the past. He gets another assignment in her city, goes and meets the now grown up h. Instant attraction strikes. She works as a hair stylist, he is smitten. Loads of attempts on life, bipolar behavior, jealousy, jumping the gun and heavy kisses/ jealous behavior later- they bang. After that my eyes glazed over and I skimmed it.
Something did not work for me, I cant point what exactly, but it just didn't. Sorry. Safe 2/5
Uhhh....I never thought I'd say this but...I wish this was shorter. I know I'm in the minority here but I didn't like it as much as the first. Go figure...must be my mood.
Usually I can't get enough and want more. Not this time. There was a little too much drama going on. When I read about an OTT alpha male, (which are the kinds of stories I absolutely LOVE), I want it to be about the couple more than anything...How possessive and overbearing he is. While Travis did have some of those qualities, I just didn't think he did as much as Rick in the first one. He took his time with Claire which was nice but I wanted him to take control...all the way. I just didn't seem to connect with him like I did with Rick in Claiming Red.
I loved Claire! She was such a sweetheart and a trooper even after everything she had been through. I especially loved how she put Travis in his place near the end when he was an ass. I just felt the drama went on way too long and too much of it (basically two stories going on at once).
But, overall, I still enjoyed it which is saying a lot for me because I tend to not be able to read much by this author.
So, 3.5 stars still rounded to 4. I can't wait to read about Ethan and Abby!
This is the second book in the O'Connell Family series by C.M. Steele. This book is about Rick (from Claiming Red) little sister, Claire and Sam's former room mate/protector Travis. Claire O'Connell is the baby of the family, she has two over protective older brothers who mean well but are sometimes a pain in the ass. Claire is only 20 years old but she's worked her ass off to make her hair salon the best in her town. She was attracted to Travis Williams from the first time she saw him come into her shop to pick up his friend, Sam who is now married to her brother, Rick. Travis Williams is 29 years old and an FBI agent, he was towards the end of a two year undercover stint when he met the lovely Claire. When he was a rookie, starting out and trying to make a name for himself he was investigating John O'Connell who is Claire's uncle. At first Travis thought Rick O'Connell and his two sons, Rick and Ethan were also involved in illegal activities but he soon learned he was mistaken. Claire wants Travis but she knows her family will take a lot of convincing to accept him. When someone tries to kill Claire Travis is there to save her from burning to death. Will this be what it takes to convince her family that he loves her ?
I keep trying to get into this author's books. They are free on KU, have OTT alpha Heros and are instalove. Should be perfect! But I just cannot get into them. I get bored and have no interest in the outcome. This one took me a week and I did not even read the epilogue. The characters are poorly developed and there is a lot going on in the book. Too much. I still think this author has potential and I will continue to look for a title that will work for me.
Love triangle? Cheating? HEA? Any Descriptive Sex w/OW/OM/Ex? Would I read more by this author/or in this series? YES. Rating: +4 stars
Review
I've read the first book in this series just a day ago and loved it. I was really intrigued by the couple that we meet in this story and was really happy to find out that it was released just a few das ago (talk about luck, right).
As usual Steele's Hs' are OTT, possessive and protective to the max and Burning For Claire is no exception. The h in this story is sassy and quite likable, I really liked that she didn't let H walk over her. I think what makes, for me, the biggest difference from other Steele's works, is that there's a lot more action and mystery than in her previous works.
Travis Williams knows as soon as he sees Claire O'Connell she is a game changer. The problem is he is a Federal Agent undercover and he went after her family years ago. Travis doesn't care though he wants Claire and when he finds out she is in danger, he is going to do whatever he can to protect her.
Insta love at it's finest. You get a bit more back story on the first book so that was exciting. I can't wait for the next book, looks like it is going to be a treat. Liked Claire a lot, Travis is a bit more dominant but they are perfect together.
I hope readers take a moment to check out the comments/reviews. First off you need to read all of these to basically have a complete story. Overall they are parallel and insert the gaps you need. I didn't like the last chapter & end of the first book and didn't like this one either. I downloaded all three at once & honestly hope that it's the close of the series. Some parts are good and others are strange. I am just trying to give a heads up for others to be aware.
I knew it was her former employees that was behind the fire at Claire's salon. Poor Tad, he almost pissed himself finding out he may have caused the two bimbos to target Claire. They are lucky Travis didn't catch them alone , or he would have probably made them suffer for trying to hurt his true love.
There was a lot going on in this quick read. I think because all 3 books from this series overlap I still felt like I was missing info. It wasn't until I was almost finished this book that I made some connections. Easy read with little to no angst!
I love Travis and Claire, they just belong together! Such a wonderful and beautiful love story! Soo soo good and soo soo H.O.T I absolutly loved it! 😍❤️🔥❤️🥰
Oh boy is this book amazing, scorching and many other things but can't give too much away. In this story we meet Claire and Travis they are my favorite new book couple. Claire is a 20 year olds at her young age she has acomplished being the owner of a successful salon owner. While Travis is a federal agent who's undercover protecting someone. Travis is persisting that Claire goes to dinner with him and after him basically making the decision for her they start to date. He is one alpha male and would do anything for his women. They have to face some little obstacles but nothing they can't get through. Their chemistry is amazing and the sex scenes are out of this world. C.M.Steele does an excellent job with over the top alpha males! I have read most of her books and they only get better. I really liked the first O'Connell story "Claiming Red". This was a great continuation, but clearly its own story. I hope there will be a story for Ethan and Abby soon.
There is action, some mystery and lots of great sex! The H is a sexy cowboy cop who know who and what he wants. The h is no pushover either, she is quite spunky. They make a cute couple. I really liked the epilogue, it was a great glimpse 9 years into the future.
If you like alpha males and great sex, then C.M.Steele's stories are for you. I highly recommend this book.
Awesome read. The characters felt real and I loved how they actually respected each other and valued their relationship. It was a great story. The story is about a federal agent who while trying to protect an innocent girl falls for the stylist doing her hair. Omg it was off the charts hot and when they almost die in the fire you can see how they both opened themselves up to expressing their love. The second in the series and I hope there will be more 'cause I loved them both so far. Going on my keeper list.
Travis tried to build a case against Claire's family many years ago for crimes they didn't commit. Now that he has seen her all grown up, he wants to make her his. Claire has been betrayed by those she considered friends. Revenge is no reason to try and kill her. Luckily Travis is there to save her. Giving them time to get to know each other and fall in love. Family involvement, guns blazing and overwork are some of the things that they encounter trying to get their HEA. Really enjoyed the epilogue. Wish it would have stated who's kids were who's and names of them.
Travis was the ideal alpha male that has definite OTT tendencies, he see’s Claire and doesn’t realise at first that she is his forever, not until the first kiss that knocks him on his very nice bum. Claire isn’t sure if she wants him to kiss her or if she should kick him out at first, thinking he was once with Sam and may have a vendetta against her family.
This story is filled with intrigue, mystery, suspense and lots of panty melting scenes.
I'm glad I've tried a few more books by this author, she writes a great story and the writing appears to be smoothing out. Book one in this series was great, book two was even better, in part h because it was longer. I can't wait to read the next in this series!
Another alpha from Ms. Steele! The story between Travis and Claire is another hot one. They have an instant atteaction but alot of circumstances try to interfere with their relationship. Not only is it their story but you also get other developing stories from 2 other couples. A quick, fun read!
This book is great it really adds to the story of Claiming Red. Now it just makes me wonder if there is a story for the brother Ethan. Really great book and will definitely read again
