After 8 volumes, mangaka Tanaka has set a clear pattern: the girls plot to get Sato, Sato harasses Yoshida, and very little happens to further the plot. And yet, really, this turns so many shoujo/shounen ai conventions on their heads that it is always worth it. Certainly, with this volume we get very little pay off on the relationship but it's still all about the humor and antics. And yes, I think we all love Yoshida just as much as Sato clearly does.

Story: Two events change up Yoshida and Sato's situation: Christmas and a school trip. It looks like Sato may have to go away with family over the holidays - leaving him bereft of Yoshida's company at that most important time of the year. Later, a school trip to Nara and Kyoto would mean Sato's first adventure of that type (he's a school trip virgin!) and he's eager for time alone with Yoshida. But then again, every girl in the school (and a bunch of girls from other schools!) are looking to catch Sato's attention on the trip as well. Can Yoshida survive all the plotting and scheming?

So yes, His Favorite 8 is just as subversive and silly as previous volumes. But it is a quick read and always elicits a warm laugh at Yoshida's predicament. I look forward to volume 9! Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher.

I’m not going to do a massive review on this book but all I can say is that I have a full hatred for the girls at this high school, like come on! He’s dating someone! They need to move on and find other guys!

Series review

Awkward Yoshida is hated by all the girls in school for his perceived closeness with hot guy Sato, who uses hanging out with Yoshida as an excuse to turn them all down. If Yoshida is merely an excuse, why does Sato taunt him in private about “his favorite”? Is it possible Sato’s feelings run deeper than friendship? And what could he possibly see in the funny-looking Yoshida? Watch Yoshida’s life turn upside down with hilarious results!

According to wiktionary, this is on-point for yaoi: from Japanese やおい (yaoi), an acronym of Yama nashi, ochi nashi, imi nashi (ヤマなし、オチなし、意味なし), "no climax, no point, no meaning".

I got sucked in and spent way too much time and money on this series of boys-love scenarios. Because that’s all it really is, a series of tropes strung together with a mean pretty boy and an “ugly” tough guy who is really short.

This series contains: badly proportioned hands and bodies (though I've seen much worse), mean girls, asshole love interest, non-consensual or dubiously-consensual sexual interactions, and a total disregard to boundaries or desires.

While it has its moments, there's already enough explosive boys-love stories out there. We didn't really need another. Me saying “it's not as bad as others" isn't saying much. I know it's good that things are getting better but they're still not good enough, and I can’t really believe I read nine volumes of this before I gave up.

Definitely my Favorite...

Such a good series the characters and supporting characters I love the little separate side stories also. I'm loving Nishida and Azuma I hope you will consider giving them a separate story of just the two. Very good storytelling and illustrations their was a little trouble between Sato and Yoshida but it worked itself out while introducing new characters that I can't wait to find out more about

C'est une bonne suite après les révélations de l'épisode précédent et de la relation entre Sato et Yoshida. Par contre, j'ai juste été surprise (dans le bon sens du terme) par la réaction des filles, qui finalement ne changent pas, n'abandonnent pas et en veulent toujours à Yoshida en le martyrisant.
La partie sur le voyage scolaire et les clichés véhiculés lors de l'anticipation de cet événement et de ce que les élèves devraient y faire, est assez marrante.
Un des tournants dans la série, est l'apparition du plus grand questionnement de Sato face à sa relation. Alors que jusque là, il semblait assez froid, parfois sadique, en tous les cas, peu clair sur le côté aimant, ici, la jalousie, l'attention à l'autre apparait de manière plus flagrante.

I Love it SO MUCH 1-8 are great books. Yamanaka a B**** N**** who should be with Nishida who wrong as h** 4 what he did to my fake bro * Torachin and Torachin fake bro should be with Azuma because real knows real. Yoshida and Sato are a very hot couple I'm so looking forward to book vol. 9

Creo que este es el primer volumen en .que Sato y Yoshida tienen mucha interacción... Y quiero aún más!!!

Las expresiones que la autora le dibuja a Yoshida son geniales, no me canso de repetirlo y de admirarlas.

I actually didn't like this volume as much as the others. But I still liked it and it still made me laugh a lot. It's kinda cool that the series can still be so purely entertaining after so...many...years... Gah! I want to re-read the first seven. Seriously one of the best comedies I've read.

So, while this was a super cute volume, not much (overall) happened. There was a school trip which took up the entire volume, and let Sato be super-super-cute.

I admit, I've been a solid fan of SuBLime as a publisher of Yaoi for a while. They never disappoint, and this series is no exception.
