Jason Aaron grew up in a small town in Alabama. His cousin, Gustav Hasford, who wrote the semi-autobiographical novel The Short-Timers, on which the feature film Full Metal Jacket was based, was a large influence on Aaron. Aaron decided he wanted to write comics as a child, and though his father was skeptical when Aaron informed him of this aspiration, his mother took Aaron to drug stores, where he would purchase books from spinner racks, some of which he still owns today.

Aaron's career in comics began in 2001 when he won a Marvel Comics talent search contest with an eight-page Wolverine back-up story script. The story, which was published in Wolverine #175 (June 2002), gave him the opportunity to pitch subsequent ideas to editors.

In 2006, Aaron made a blind submission to DC/Vertigo, who published his first major work, the Vietnam War story The Other Side which was nominated for an Eisner Award for Best Miniseries, and which Aaron regards as the "second time" he broke into the industry.

Following this, Vertigo asked him to pitch other ideas, which led to the series Scalped, a creator-owned series set on the fictional Prairie Rose Indian Reservation and published by DC/Vertigo.

In 2007, Aaron wrote Ripclaw: Pilot Season for Top Cow Productions. Later that year, Marvel editor Axel Alonso, who was impressed by The Other Side and Scalped, hired Aaron to write issues of Wolverine, Black Panther and eventually, an extended run on Ghost Rider that began in April 2008. His continued work on Black Panther also included a tie-in to the company-wide crossover storyline along with a "Secret Invasion" with David Lapham in 2009.

In January 2008, he signed an exclusive contract with Marvel, though it would not affect his work on Scalped. Later that July, he wrote the Penguin issue of The Joker's Asylum.

After a 4-issue stint on Wolverine in 2007, Aaron returned to the character with the ongoing series Wolverine: Weapon X, launched to coincide with the feature film X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Aaron commented, "With Wolverine: Weapon X we'll be trying to mix things up like that from arc to arc, so the first arc is a typical sort of black ops story but the second arc will jump right into the middle of a completely different genre," In 2010, the series was relaunched once again as simply Wolverine. He followed this with his current run on Thor: God of Thunder.

Guess who's trying to catch up on the King in Black event. MEEEEEEE. I'm currently going back through and reading the issues and events that I needed to prepare for the current Marvel event King in Black

This! Holy shit. This has got to be one of the best single issue comics that I've ever read. Most lists that give you reading orders for the King in Black event are tied specifically to this single issue of Thor because it's the first time that readers see Knull on page even though he's not named. However, in these 22 pages I was so consumed by the commentary on religion. It focuses specifically on the dark origins of Gorr who pretty much loses everything that he loves and is still told to rely and believe in the gods. Gorr; however, gets so fed up that he rebels and when he comes into contact with gods he definitely desides to seek revenge. This is clearly an allegory for the writers view on religion. While I can't be 100 percent sure, I think that this is may be an atheist perspective of religion. Gorr suffers and the gods are no where to be found yet he's told to keep his faith and to follow religious traditions. It's a clear indication/message that if gods truly existed then why would they continue to let people suffer. The religious iconography at the end may be a little much for people at the end, but this story was fascinating and I really enjoyed it. It was unlike anything that I've ever read before.

This chapter contained the origin of Gorr, before he was the God-Butcher and the bearer of the Necro-Sword. He's basically alien Job, whose life was wrought with nothing but suffering.

This was also adapted in Taika Waititi's Thor: Love and Thunder and I thought Christian Bale was a pretty decent Gorr.

kind of a lame reason for the villain, to go after every god in creation there should have been a reasonable cause, this comes off as more of a child tantrum only one god was responsible for my agony(even though it was the people being stupid and not doing anything waiting for the god) so now ill go after every god cause thats reasonable, right?

The gods don’t hear your prayers because there are no gods. There never were.
No gods in the sky. No gods who made us. No gods watching ove rus. No gods who give a damn.

#6 – The Godbomb Revealed
Gorr's plan becomes clear: he's building a bomb that can wipe out every god across time. The three Thors begin to converge on Gorr’s stronghold. The scale of the threat becomes apocalyptic, yet the story stays personal through the Thors’ determination.

Gorr being so angry at the gods for not answering his prayers hits so hard. I really hope the movie doesn't butcher this. (See what I did there?)

I liked this well enough, but I think there's a fine line between universal themes and stereotypes, and this fell a little closer to the latter for my tastes. It just seems such an obvious backstory - Boo hoo, the gods have been bad to me, therefore I shall reject them. I'm an atheist myself, and sometimes it gets a little same old, same old when literature constantly expects turning away from religion to come from some great tragic saga of undeserved misery. I mean, I suppose a person rational enough to examine the evidence and say "Nope, not really that convincing, thank you," is probably not the type to go on a murderous spree, but still. This is old hat.

"Tragic backstories explain bad deeds, but they do not excuse them." Tengo que repetirme esto, porque Gorr está empezando a caerme peligrosamente bien.

¡Siga la dieta Volstagg! ¡500 años de hambre trabajando en las minas de Gorr y usted también perderá 200 kg de carne divina!
