The Power of Thought

Rate this book
The power of thought, as Emerson says, is a spiritual power. It is the greatest power that man has at his disposal. The world today is in its present state simply as a result of mankind's collective thinking; each nation is in its present state of either peace and prosperity, or poverty, murder and anarchy, simply as a result of its thinking as a nation; and each individual is what he is, and his life is what it is, and his circumstances are what they are, simply as results of his thoughts.

Henry Thomas Hamblin was an English mystic, "New Thought" author, and founder of magazine "The Science of Thought Review", which achieved wide readership.

The essence of Hamblin's mystical experience and philosophy was of the omnipresence, omnipotence and all-goodness of God ("The Kingdom or realm of God is with us now and always"). He believed that "abounding health, sufficiency of supply, achievement, accomplishment and joy indescribable are the normal state for man.", and that, to achieve this state, man needed to come into "harmony with Cosmic Law". Over time the emphasis of Hamblin's written work changed from showing people how to change their lives through right thought and faith, to teaching them how to find a living consciousness of God for himself alone.

Hamblin's work is continued to this day through the Hamblin Trust, a registered charity which publishes his books and the magazine, "New Vision" (founded in 1921). The trust, set in three acres of gardens in Bosham, West Sussex, is also a venue for organisations and events promoting healthy living and personal development.

Honestly forgot what this was even about. But yeah “power of thought”.

Listened to this on youtube as an audiobook. I think i liked three ideas and the rest I found utter bullshit.

Anyways, I still liked listening to this. And will keep continue listening to similar audiobooks in the future.

A decent book if I were to disregard the absolute conviction of the lined theory in terms of thoughts attracting sickness. That & the inflicted catholic beliefs.

Thomas Hamblin is one of the earlier new thought writers. He centers on the essense of thought and it's effects in us and on the world around us. He emphasizes that thought is creative in it's power and he discusses the many things that thought can produce, for good or ill. Although others writers have branched out into broader expressions of what this author focuses on, a part of the foundation of what others speak of today is found in this little book. He says, "you are the architect of your own life, it is yours to make or mar". He also says, "if we donot overcome life's difficulties in our thoughts then we can never overcome them in actual experience". The writer not only refers to the psychology of thought and it's implications, but also speaks from a strong spiritual perspective, lifting our considerations to the "Most High". It was the start of the musing of the creating and attracting power of thought when this book must have been written. Basics covered with religious confidence.
