A selective take on some of the standing stones and stone circles in Perthshire. I was interested in this book after seeing a couple of standing stones around Pitlochry, but to my disappointment, none of these were featured and the closest reference in the book to Pitlochry is Ballinluig. But still a large and significant portion of Perthshire is omitted.
This is only 20 pages, but more could have easily been included, instead of vague frequent references to how the author and the general public don’t know what they “stand” for (pun intended) and what the various marks on them are. I appreciated the details about how to get to most of the standing stones/circles but a lot of them will involve needing to drive, which I can’t, and I can’t imagine a lot of buses going to these middle of nowhere locations.
An interesting little book if you have a specific fascination with standing stones/circles but don’t pay over the odds for it - you’ll only be disappointed.
A small pamphlet really, being only 20 pages, but it does have some nice colour photos with the text. It seems rather selective, missing out quite a lot. I always thought Perthshire was quite extensive but this book stops at Ballinluig, missing out the ones in Pitlochry and Moulin and all points north of that. Quite interesting, though, and gives some history of the stones and circles.
