Summer Prescott is well-known in the Cozy Mystery realm, having written and published several Best-Sellers in the genre. An avid reader of Thrillers, Horror and Suspense, the author has decided to follow her passion with the debut of her Thriller, The Quiet Type, which launched in the top 50 of the Serial Killer category on Amazon. The novel has received high praise in its reviews, and Summer is considering a possible trilogy or series to continue the story.
I enjoyed this book. It was a quick fun read. I liked Marilyn and Tiara also how they dealt with the problems that came up. Even with their competitor using dirty tactics Marilyn refused to sink to their level. As always the mystery was neatly and conveniently wrapped at the end.
That pie rival of Marilyn's was definitely a piece of work...until he wasn't, then everyone thought Marilyn killed him for stealing her key lime pie recipe. I guess it's just how Marilyn rolls, but I thought she did some pretty juvenile things for having a grown daughter that seemed to have a much better head on her shoulders than her mom. Maybe that's why the two got along so well, Tiara could be the voice of reason when her mom was impulsive. In a way, I could see why the police thought what they did, but of course I was pulling for Marilyn, since that rival had been so awful to her. I loved the showdown, and as always the perp was brought to justice.
A new pie shop has opened in town. The want to give Marilyn a run for her money. Suddenly attempts at sabotaging Marilyn's business begin to occur. As the rivalry grows the unexpected happens. The owner of Joseph's Piece of the Pie turns up dead. The main suspect is Marilyn herself.
The second book in the series is good. The characters continue to develop. The plot is paced nicely throughout the story. The books in this series are fast reads and easy to enjoy. They also leave you waiting for the next book.
I really liked this one. A great second book in a new series. A bit on the short and sweet side, but sometimes, that is what I want. Short, sweet, and an easy break from the ho hums of real life.
The fun, suspense, key lime pie, Key West bliss, and drop-dead murder continues…
Continuing my "armchair vacation" to Key West, Florida via these deliciously fun and very suspenseful culinary cozy murder mysteries from phenomenally talented author and publisher Summer Prescott, book 2 in her absolutely delectable Key West culinary mystery series – Key Lime Die – has pie shop owner marilyn and her daughter Tiara faced with stiff – and unethical – Competition from a rival pie shop which, having never before served it, is now featuring key lime pie as it's newest signature dessert offering. Not only this, but a representative from Joseph's Slice of the Pie is seen passing out glossy promotional fliers right in front of Sublime Sweets (Marilyn's beloved pie shop). Amidst a flurry of blatantly vicious – and quite unethical – maneuvers to seduce Marilyn's customers away from Sublime Sweets and directly to Joseph's Slice of the Pie, marilyn and her daughter Tiara are desperate to keep their pie shop afloat and in business. Everything hits rock bottom for Marilyn and Kiara when, after literally staying up all night baking 75 key lime pies for a last minute emergency wedding order, when the woman who placed the order never shows up to claim and pay for the pies, a desperate and severely sleep-deprived Marilyn collapses under the weight of her desperate frustration and makes a "revenge pie" for rival pie shop owner Joseph., which she considers presenting to him under the guys of a peace offering. By morning, however, well-rested once again, Marilyn recognizes that nothing good can come from her sleep-deprived revenge plan and immediately nixes the whole thing, as common sense returns with the clear-headedness of once more being well-rested. Unfortunately, stopping by her mother's house and seeing the pie (which appears to be any other beautiful key lime pie that Marilyn would bake) – along with Marilyn's cheery pink note offering peace – Tiara (believing she is helping her mother) delivers the "revenge pie" unknowingly to Joseph's pie shop. When she awakens and discovers what her daughter has done, Marilyn heads for Joseph's shop to set things right – only to discover a swarm of police cars on the premises. Soon she learns – much to her horror – that her arrival pie shop owner is dead… allegedly from an extreme allergic reaction to tree nuts. Worse still, her pie is suspected to be the source of the deadly and fatal ingredients. And, once again, Marilyn finds herself to be the prime suspect in yet another murder investigation…
Just like its predecessor, A Line to Kill (the first book in Summer Prescott's absolutely irresistible Key West Culinary Cozy Mystery Series), this delicious second installment, Key Lime Die, further showcases Summer Prescott's uniquely engrossing and totally captivating storytelling abilities and her natural talent for writing well-crafted, deeply suspenseful yet light-hearted and fun murder mysteries. Containing no graphic sexual or violent content – as is so reliably characteristic of all Summer Prescott's wonderful cozy mysteries, Key Lime Die continues her highly respectable tradition of being a totally gripping mystery perfectly suited for readers of all ages – from the very youngest to the very oldest and everybody in between. Chock full of unforgettable characters, totally engaging storylines, perfect pacing (fast-moving without being overwhelmingly so), a very welcome and naturally flowing narrative and storytelling style, an extremely well-developed setting that really transports readers to Key West, Florida, and a ton of irresistible suspense that will definitely keep readers captivated and turning pages to the very end, I simply cannot highly recommend this wonderful mystery enough. Once again, my only complaint is that I am only able to give it five stars for a rating. It's certainly deserves far more than that… I would definitely give this book no less than one zillion stars, were that possible… Yes, it's most definitely that good… An absolute "must read" – without a doubt. In fact, the moment I post this review, I'm diving head-first into Book 3 in this awesome and amazing series… Once again – though not at all surprisingly – Summer Prescott has totally done herself with another absolute winner that's totally and completely addictive… Thank you, Summer Prescott, for your awesome talent and these wonderful books…
I’m sorry but this book was so difficult for me to read that I had to speed read through it. I have a very hard time reading books that have bullies or plain ol’ mean people and Joseph was mean and vindictive! So were some of the other people. It hurts my heart. Not one of my favorites.
Excellent mystery that kept me guessing. Prescott has her readers completely invested emotionally in her characters. I didn’t have a clue about whodunit, how, or why. BRAVO!
I read the first book in this series and thought it was a pretty easy, fun and quick cozy mystery. I liked it enough to dive right into the second book in the series.
Sadly, I did not enjoy the second book as much. Reason being, the author made the main character Marilyn out to be so whiny and immature. It made me not like Marilyn, despite having really liked her in the first book.
The writing for a cozy mystery was good. The storyline held my attention but I could not get past the fact Marilyn was not only annoying but made out to be a little stupid. This was not how her character was created in book one.
Again, this book was short and I did enjoy the quick read. The outcome wasn't as obvious as book one for me which I liked. I will most likely give book three a chance to see if Marilyn's character can redeem herself for me. It will be a make or break moment.
I didn’t enjoy this as much as the first book. I just didn’t find some of Marilyn’s behavior believable based on the way her character was depicted in book one.
In book 2 of this new series from Summer Prescott, Marilyn's business is suffering and she can't figure out why. Her handy man comes in one day and hands her a flyer from the pie shop down the street. They are now selling Key Lime pies and cutting into Marilyn's business. She and Tiara put their heads together to figure out what they can do to get back on track. They try meeting with the owner of the shop but he is a totally unlikable character and is not willing to even consider working with them. One day Marilyn gets a call from a bride's mother who is ordering a bunch of pies for her daughter's wedding. Marilyn stays up all night baking all of the pies to make sure they are as fresh as they can be and ready for the lady to pick up on the arranged day. Sadly she finds out it was a set up so she goes home but she is too angry to sleep and ends up making a revenge pie. After that she feels better and goes to bed. Unfortunately Tiara sees the pie with the note and takes it to the competitor, who then ends up dead the next day. This time Marilyn is under the gun for the murder so she has to find the real killer in order to get her life and business back on track
This is the second book in this Key West series. I liked the story line and was able to stay intrigued until the end. Marilyn is the owner of a local Key West pie shop, where her key lime pies are a huge hit. Business has been keeping her busy, until her competition has started making their own key lime pies, quickly squashing her sales. Dirty marketing tricks and an angry ex wife are the reasons Marilyn decides to do a little sleuthing of her own. I think this series will be a hit.
I loved it, can't wait for the next one in the series Marilyn Hayes, amateur sleuth and owner of SubLime Sweets the only shop in key west to offer Key Lime pies that is til another place starts to make them, as it tastes like her pies she looses it trying to find out why the owner would want to sabotage her business, when he winds up die the police are looking g to pin it on her, she needs to find the real killer before it's to late. I received this as an ARC and voluntarily choose to reveiw.
Cute little book about competing bake shops that make Key Lime Pie as it's star dessert. Piece of the Pie is taking away Sublime Sweets business with dirty ads, false reviews and discounts. After a run-in with the owner of Piece of the Pie, Joseph Hernandez, Marilyn bakes him a revenge pie that the police think may have killed him. As cozies go, this one is as sweet!
Marilyn’s Key Lime Pie has a local rival. But when things get heated up and her rival is found dead in their store, she becomes the number one suspect. Did she want to eliminate her competition that much?
Can she find the killer before she is thrown in jail and lose her business altogether? How will she cope with all the stress? Can she be able to eat her pie free?
There is a recipe at the end of the book, this time for key lime cup cake, so assume every book in series has 1 of some type. Of all books, I like cozies the best, as far as mysteries, and Burke's series the best, but I have read so many of hers, and also there is always room for more cozies, and wait times with various series and writers, so always room to add another to a favorites. I will be pulling more of this series to see how it keeps going.
I so enjoyed this story. Twist that weren't expected, and characters you love from the first page. Quick read, great for sitting by the pool or a rainy day. The only thing wrong was it made me want key lime stuffed strawberries and key lime cream puffs. I need to go to Key West and I need to read book #1.
The second in the Key West Culinary Cozy Mystery series, Key Lime Die, finds Marilyn Hayes, the proprietor or SubLime Sweets, in hot water once again. She finds herself the prime suspect in the death of her chief competitor so she takes it upon herself to solve the crime. I love the supporting characters, especially her daughter, Tara. This quick, enjoyable read will leave you craving pie!
I love the main character in this series. She is just so human, flaws and all. Her daughter is almost too good to be true but I'm dealing with a teen daughter at the moment so my view may be tainted. I hope in future books the author goes more deeply into the who done it part of the stories but I enjoyed this read.
I enjoyed this book. It's a cosy mystery in which you can read it in an hour or two. It's about a lady who for some time has this great pic shop. She makes the best Key Lime pie. When one day a new bakery moves into town right down the street and starts making Key Lime Pies trying to run her out of business. Well you know murder is on the way.
A new pie shop has opened in Key West and seems intent on shutting SubLime (Marilyn's shop) down, now Marilyn and her daughter need to stop the underhand tactics, but someone else decides to stop them, by killing Joseph and framing Marilyn! Now all she has to do is save her business and save her freedom - not a problem for this Pie Baker she hopes!
Key Lime Die is the second installment in Summer Prescott's Key Lime Cozy Mysteries and it is as sweet as the first one. Join all of the characters you loved from the first one and come join in on a mystery that'll Keating wanting more. As always Summer Prescott is at the top of her game with her revised series. Looking forward to the next book
Like the first book in the series, the first half of this one was build-up. The murder didn’t occur until the halfway point. As expected from that build-up, Marilyn was suspected of killing her rival pie maker. She did solve the crime, I’ll give her that. I like Marilyn and love key lime pie, but I don’t think I’ll read more stories about her misadventures.
