"There is no question that women are called upon to make a variety of sacrifices during the course of their reproductive lives. Dealing with the physical, emotional and psychological demands of the monthly reproductive cycle, of pregnancy and of childrearing can prove exhausting for many – especially when coupled with the rigors of managing a home and full time employment outside the home. So why is it that these same women have been asked – and at times, required – to make health care choices which further compromise their overall wellbeing – while men – their partners and soulmates – are left with little or no responsibility for such issues as STD prevention and birth control?
In a guidebook tailored for both women and men, a seasoned doctor combines facts and advice relevant to women and their families that will empower them to make informed decisions about future health care. Dr. John Littell, a family physician with more than twenty-five years of experience that includes obstetrics and gynecology, shares valuable insight about controversial issues in women’s health care that range from HPV vaccination in children to the diagnosis and treatment of HPV-related disease to the numerous choices related to contraception and family planning. With an emphasis on natural options, Dr. Littell includes guidance and case studies related to common gynecologic health issues encountered by teenagers and women throughout their reproductive lives while exposing much of the deception in women’s health care today."
I read this because I am seeing Dr Littell this month. I found it helpful to understand his views on women’s health. For content, 5 stars. However, much of the book is repetitive and could have been a series of blog posts.
I recommend this book to anyone with daughters approaching the age of 11, his insights on HPV, HPV vax and Pap smears are very helpful. Also, Dr. Littell promotes natural family planning techniques over and above contraceptives.
This book is full of great information about Women's Health Care relating to HPV, cervical cancer, Oral Contraceptives, and family planning. I am a big fan of natural solutions and minimal interventions. I have been very bothered by doctor's trying to push birth control on me in the past on when I did not want it. I would love to have a doctor who saw me as a whole person and actually tried to fix my problems instead of just pushing the standard treatment on me. I wanted to give this 5 stars but had to remove one because of the preachy and religious tone of the book. The same information could have been shared without that and would have been more accessible to more people.
Wow, a physician who is not afraid to expose the dirty secrets of the medical industry. This is a must read for every woman and mom, AND the men who love or raise them. I borrowed this book, but will be buying my own copy for my teens so they can understand their fertility and avoid the harm of hormonal birth control and unnecessary annual testing that so many doctors demand. Thank you, Dr Littell, for spending decades learning about and caring for women and having the courage to share this important information with women through this book!
Good, quick read. For women, husbands, and especially fathers, this book breaks down what birth control pills are really doing to a womans body. It also explains the HPV vaccine that my pediatrician has been pushing. This book gives you facts that your doctor doesn't have the time to explain, so that you can have informed consent.
