The Echo Beneath
For nine thousand years, the Neolithic village of Çatalhüyük lay buried under the plains of central Turkey. Dr. Nathan Carlisle has spent twenty years digging up the ordinary remains of ancient lives, and at fifty-two he has started to believe his great discoveries are behind him. Then his trowel strikes a polished black disc beneath the floor of a house.
The disc has the texture of stone and the shine of polished metal, and it is warm to the touch. The symbols carved around its edge match no writing from that region or that age. Even the team's expert in ancient scripts cannot place them.
Nathan cannot stop looking at the disc. The longer he stares at the symbols, the more they move, and at night they follow him into his dreams. Each morning he wakes with knowledge he never learned. His partner, Dr. Helen Trevino, watches him pull away from the work and the people around him.
Something else lies deeper in the soil beneath that house, and Nathan means to dig it up.
