Harper is completely in love with her girlfriend, Alex. But in Shewolf, the girls seems to be fighting more than usual. Mostly because of Alex's brothers. Harper just doesn't understand why she has to go home to them every night, and why they act so hostile toward her. Of course, she also doesn't know that Alex and her brother are werewolves. At least, not until one night when Harper is walking home alone and a wolf bites her.

Shewolf was really fun and sexy. The focus is, of course, on the relationship between Harper and Alex rather than the very light plot. Those girls are super into each other! When they're not fighting, they're having plenty of sex. In fact, even they are fighting, they're having make up sex! Alex is also trying to find a way to be with Harper without pissing off her family, which causes more problems. That's where the minor plot kicks in. It's fun and a bit exciting, but never goes too deep. That's okay though, because I was still enjoying Harper and Alex together.

Shewolf is a super quick read. I read straight through in about an hour. It's definitely a good piece of mindcandy, if you're looking for a fun and sexy Paranormal Romance. Just don't expect any great plot developments or deep characterization. It does have a nice ending, no cliffhanger, and it's really sweet. I certainly wouldn't mind reading more about Alex and Harper, because there's obviously more to come with them.

Not too original

Exceedingly short, better detail and fleshing out characters would be helpful, it feels almost like fan fiction rather than a real novel... Not exactly a romance novel either...

I’m going to lift and reuse the opening of a different review, since I indirectly referenced this story here in that other review.

I’ve read two stories back to back which are both completely different, and oddly similar. Well, certain elements are similar. I suppose that the only similarities involve: both involve lesbians, involve werewolves, both are drenched in sex, and both involve people who do not know that the other woman is a werewolf. One is written tightly, competently; the other seems to have a word or two wrong every sentence or every other sentence. It even mixes up people’s names here and there.

Here’s where I could show how much better one is over the other by saying something like ‘the less well written one was a better story’ or something like that. And that got reinforced by my reading both stories back to back. That isn’t the case. The one written incompetently is in fact the lesser of the two stories. This one here, Shewolf, is the incompetently written story.

Ooh, lifting that from the other story, changing a few words here and there, and placing it here . . . that’s a lot tougher than I meant to be. It’s not that the story isn’t competently written, this one I mean, it’s that it doesn’t have the professional polish.

I’m not sure what the story is behind ‘Rose and Star Press’, the publisher of the Essex story, but I do note that they have only published works by Essex and her wife, Natalie Vivien. Which I mention as that might mean both stories I read are basically self-published, with the Essex one having a layer of small press hovering over it. More in name than in actuality. But then, as I said, I don’t know anything about the publisher, so, for all I know, they are in fact a functioning small press.

But that’s neither here nor there. This little bit of words here is supposed to be about Renee Stark’s Shewolf story, which, as far as I can tell, is her first. If it is in fact the first story put out by her – it probably could have used a few more drafts before publication. To catch those times when Stark says ‘Caleb’ when she means ‘Connor’, and those times when she just uses the wrong words. But I didn’t rate the story the rating I gave it because of those ‘issues’, but because there were just too much that I didn’t like about the people involved.

Which might be a good or bad thing, considering. I mean, the characters were strong enough for me to come to the conclusion that I didn’t like Alex and Harper’s relationship. Nor how they interacted with each other. But that might just be a personal preference on my part.

Oh, that and how drenched with sex this story turned out to be. That came out of the blue. Hmms, there is an “author’s warning” on the book description. I do not recall if I read that far to see it before I read the story. It says that it contains ‘sexually explicit scenes’. Well, then, so did the other werewolf story I read today.
I don’t see any reviews. What the heck did I read then? I thought I had read something somewhere . . . oh, maybe that’s on Amazon? Ah yes, it’s on Amazon. You know the thing I liked best about this story? The werewolf part. There’s this scene where a wolf is running through the forest and it was kind of fun/exciting read there. While the review on Amazon said basically the opposite of what I found. I do not wish to do a response review or anything. I just happened to have read that then read the story. And found my reactions were the opposite of that review. They, apparently, found the best parts to be the beginning, while I found the best parts to involve the werewolves.

Also, I’ll just add before I depart, the werewolf/shifter stuff was not ‘run-of-the-mill’. There isn’t a fully formed fantasy world here, but I wouldn’t call what is here to be ‘run of the mill’.

Oh, and I probably could have given this closer to 3 stars if

Despite saying all that above, I’ll likely take a look at anything else this author decides to release to the public.

Great storyline but needs some editing.

I like the plot, but there's some serious errors that made me cringe. A few grammar mistakes easily fixed, but a few places where the names are wrong. Using Lara when you really mean Alex totally ruins the scene.

A decent book, but I suggest having someone proofread it next time first, before you publish it.

meh

Too much drama and so little deep dialogue happening. These two seemed like highschool kids/couples. They did not know how to have a conversation about simple things, let alone the big stuff.

Alex and Harper were very one dimensional. Simple scenes, simple lines and I couldn’t even feel any connection between them. Most of the book was sex scenes. I love sex scenes, but it lacked that certain something.

This book was not for me. There was nothing special about these preternatural creatures. There wasn’t anything special about the MC’s either.

Great story!

This story was filled with so much love and it was action packed. However it did not get 5 stars for the fact the grammar was a mess. So many errors that should of been caught in editing. Even the fact that girls name was wrong in a part of the story should of been caught. The story was a love story , a good one at that.

Quick read.
No rules seam to regulate this paranormal world. At least, Harper doesn't grab them and neither can the lector. A point of view change would have been great.

I'd still read a sequel. I'm kind of a sucker for were'stories ^^

Dropped at 2% in.
The immediate physical descriptions accompanying a character’s appearance showed little skill, and bespoke of amateurish writing. Dull mentions of varying hair colours interest no one.

This book is for those who want to remember the joy of being on Wattpad and cliché were-wolf stories written by horny teens.

Its a slightly mature version of that given the good writing and obvious usage of correct grammar.

Hmmmn, nope. The blatant homophobic remarks by the brothers? The turning someone into a whole ass werewolf against their consent?

Like someone said earlier, it's giving fan fiction and not the good kind.

Yes. I read this. It wasn’t terrible per se but... it was very short, relied heavily on a twist, characters were ciphers, and I can’t in good conscious say I liked it more than just, eh.
