Scraps

Rate this book
Scraps is a strange little collection of random bits of my writing that have never really belonged anywhere in particular. There are a few short stories, and some fictional snippets that are even shorter. There are some words from my heart as a parent, and some from my walk as a woman (and I’m still perplexed about how and why some of those took the form of poetry!)

There are a number of melancholy notes, because in the last couple of years, those are often the moments that have sent me scrambling for my keyboard. There are a few bits that began as dares or writing workshop assignments. And there’s some wing stretching—me writing in directions I don’t usually go (poetry!! creepy stories!!)

Writing scraps. I hope you enjoy them.

Just as the title describes, this short book is a collection of miscellany that Ms. Faye has written over her career. Poetry, fiction and memories are brought together to give the reader an even deeper look into the author's psyche. I'm a devoted follower of Ms. Faye (and her alter ego, Deborah Geary) and it was a wonderful opportunity to read this beautiful little book. I especially enjoyed her essay on being an introverted mother of two, including one child with special needs. I've long said that I never want to be a mother, as I fear that my somewhat introverted nature would make me a terrible mom. Reading Audrey's thoughts on being an introvert and a mother helped me to see that those two natures are not mutually exclusive. One CAN be a great mother without denying one's need for quiet, solitude and peace. What a great lesson! In all, this book just made me admire the author even more. If you've never read any of her books, I highly recommend it. It is a great little way to introduce yourself to a wonderful writer.

Insightful

I gave this book a 5 star rating because I feel it deserves it. This small book of short stories an poems gives us, the reader, a tiny wee window into the soul & thoughts of a truly marvelous writer. They may be "Scraps" but they really are so much more. This may become one of my favorite books by Audrey Faye but since she keeps writing it could be usurped. I hope she releases another book like this, I enjoyed the opportunity of a glimpse into her heart & mind. Thank you Audrey.

Love letter to fans a bit of fun for those yet to know her

It's just what the title says. Little scraps and snippets of her writing. For those of us who have taken the journey through her different series it feels like a little gift. Varied and enjoyable some personal some imaginative. If this is your introduction to the author then try her other writing they have been lovely.

A Quilt

These Scraps are not ragged bits of cloth, tossed in a box. These Scraps make a quilt, one that warms body and soul and teases the mind with its patterns. It's an intriguing mix of pieces of fiction and pieces of reflection. Audrey notes at the end: "...thank you for allowing my words a chance to speak to your heart." They do.

More, please

I was addicted to Debora Geary's books and appreciate any small fix from her avatar. This was short, but oh so sweet. Thank you.
