Haunting #439: Ardruin Castle

Number of It’s anyone’s guess, really

The village of Ballycorven in West Kerry, Ireland

Long and bloody. Full of fire, covert poisonings, plague, and various mysterious deaths since its construction in 1219.

Get the ghosts under control by October 31st for the grand opening of Céad Míle Fáilte Medieval Dining Experience inside the renovated castle, “Where the Mead Flows, the Bards Roar, and Everyone’s a Lord (for the Evening).”

The Rafferty O’Meara, formerly Kerry hurling’s star midfielder

The Eric James Crawford. Ghost, American, tourist. Chaotic Good Boy who’s about to rearrange Raff’s world as they try to figure out just how Eric really died.

Rafferty O’Meara has somehow survived six months of working for the ExorSquad—the UK’s least reputable ghost removal service—after a career-ending injury took him away from the sport he loved, hurling. Living out of his van on little pay, Raff has already seen his fill of haunted pubs, soggy bog brides, and endlessly chanting monks when he gets called to his biggest assignment Ardruin Castle, a crumbling estate in west Kerry, Ireland.

The ancient building’s ambitious new owners have been trying to renovate the place for months, but there’s always some catastrophe pushing back the grand opening, because the place is undeniably haunted. Enter ExorSquad—or rather, Raff. He’s on his own to remove the castle’s many ghosts so the new tourist attraction can open to guests the week after Halloween.

Well, not entirely on his own. The hot, smug ghost of an American tourist who loves D&D turns out to be helpful in learning about and managing the other ghosts. Plus, Eric is easy to talk to. Easy to trust. And…Raff isn’t sure he can be the one to move him on. Not when he’s forming an unearthly attachment that feels a lot like love. He’s also not sure he can protect Eric or the castle’s other ghosts—who, despite their quirks, aren’t all that bad—from the more sinister presence that’s doing its best to avoid him. Something powerful and ancient, an entity that might have murdered Eric and now wants Raff’s heart—literally.

The ExorSquad Series is a collection of standalone MM romcoms centered around the unfortunate employees of ExorSquad Ltd, the UK's shadiest ghost-busting operation. Expect supernatural shenanigans, things that go bump in the night, sizzling encounters, and hard-won happy-ever-afters.

When Raff decided to take the job as a spirit extraction expert he never thought he would end up at a haunted castle, much less falling in love with one of the resident ghosts. Ardruin Castle was a very interesting place, Eric, one of the ghosts who resided there never saw himself in a place like this, but now that he met Raff it didn’t seem so bad. From day 1 Raff and Eric kept seeing eachother, mainly because Eric kept following him around to watch him and flirt with him a bit. Despite Raff's earlier complaints he did in fact like Eric's attention. The singing was pretty cute and the nicknames as well. I am a fan of the cute nerd x beefy jock dynamic these 2 had. The way Raff treated Eric like he was the most precious thing in the world was relationship goals. Despite the lack of experience, Eric did his best to be loving and considerate to Raff no matter what. They are so precious. We have quite the cast of side characters, from Pepper the dachshund, the sibling duo who own the castle, and all the ghosts residing there. I really enjoyed the interactions with the ghosts, they were very fun and interesting, especially a certain few. Then there is the big bad, that one would definitely be terrifying in real life, but have no fear, our gang defeats the evil and gets a much deserved HEA, which did surprise me a bit since I did not see that one coming. I must say this was a great read and yet another great addition to this series.

I can honestly say reading this book was a pleasure!
It’s so warm and loving and full of surprise joy and hopefulness.
Raff really finds his place in the world by the end which is a vast change from the start of the book. He was living just a half life really just coasting around barely alive. Then he gets a job at the haunted castle and really you see who he is as a person. Hired to get rid of ghosts and ends up finding ways to keep them happy so they’re not messing things up anymore. Such a loving and caring soul and you just instantly love him.
And when he meets Eric, that poor man didn’t stand a chance. Raff was clearly destined to love that boy with all he was worth and he does so perfectly and purely.
The book does lead up to a grand climactic battle but really it’s barely part of the whole story. It’s really a book about love and treasuring it.

Man this whole universe keeps getting better and better! This was another banger! This one is about Raff and Eric!
First I love the Irish language in this one!
Raff is sent to a castle to investigate and disperse of ghosts it’s where he meets Eric who died at the castle but he’s not sure how he did the reports make it seem like Eric jumped but he didn’t
I love when the ghosts themselves are interesting and we have so many in this one! They are attracted to each other but they kinda keep each other at arms length too
I giggled when Raff was blushing because he used to watch Eric’s videos and relieve himself LOL
Their intimacy built over time so the pay off was worth it!
Their attraction but it was emotional too when Raff was helping Eric with his to do list so he could cross over!
The emotional turmoil when they were both falling in love not knowing what was coming next! Miss maaaaam I was worried about the hea like actually terrified but that part worked out so damn well because whatever witchy magic that helped him become real and have a damn pulse! The gasp that came out of me!!
This one had something I didn’t know I would like which is Uhm food porn LOL Raff describing the goods to Eric as he was eating it was 🔥!
The main entity in this book that Raff nicknamed Gary LOL was a elemental and he was a rude one at that’ we find out he’s the one eating the ghost spirits and he’s the one who hurt our Eric!
This book put me thru the ringer! The emotions the sweating and crying! But it was allll worth it because these sweet sweet boys got their happy ending well deserved two warm loving bodies living their best lives!!!

Addendum #4 - ExorSquad employees are strictly forbidden to get in touch with rival ghost hunting companies

It’s not like we can just wander into the village and ask someone. Or post online ‘Am I the asshole for accidentally using my ghostly powers to startle people?’”

“Easy. Just whistle Smash Mouth’s 1999 classic: ‘All Star.’”

I don’t want you to get scared. Or hurt. Or for your heart to stop.” “Yeah. Why would you want to protect me when you hardly know me? What about me could possibly be worth going out of your way for?”

“You wanted to save me yesterday, before you realized I was dead. Even though you didn’t know me,” I said without hesitating. “You were nice to my friend when you didn’t have to be. You have a lot more respect for the spirits here than the last two guys combined, even if you are carrying just as much ammo. And . . . nobody protected me from whatever though you didn’t know me,” I said without hesitating. “You were nice to my friend when you didn’t have to be. You have a lot more respect for the spirits here than the last two guys combined, even if you are carrying just as much ammo. And . . . nobody protected me from whatever killed me here. I just really don’t want to see it happen again.”

Entity Name: Eric James Crawford, the American, the Wildcard, Professional Nerd Level: 4 Year of Expiration: 2009 Haunting style: Pulls my hair. Steals my stuff (my pin, sometimes my water bottle even though he can’t drink out of it). Whistles better than I can hold a tune. Imitates local bird calls: jays, blackcaps, magpies, wagtails, robins. When you pay him a compliment, he looks so solid that I can’t tell him from the living. Funny, I can’t remember any sayings about ghosts and praise. Just him? Ideas to keep the peace: I’m not sure yet. I’ve learned so much from him this past week, but I feel like I need to keep learning more about him. I can’t even say why, but I’m fairly sure there’s a line in The Handbook about trusting your gut on these things. For now, I’ll stick with our little partnership. Keep it simple, like: he helps me, I don’t zap him.

“That so, Wildcard?”

“You know, I didn’t take you for a romance reader.” Raff flashed a grin, bright and bold and free of apprehension even though he was standing face to face with a dead guy. “Oh? And what did you take me for?” I considered him for a moment, a teasing answer about the king of the mountain goats on the tip of my tongue. But he looked so serious gazing back at me that I said something real instead: “It’s too soon to say for sure, but I think . . . you might be the knight all those readers are looking for. The reason they keep turning the pages.”

“You’re really something, Eric,” he murmured, his breath displacing the steam of the tea. “You’ve this mind that reaches farther than half the people I’ve ever met. You look up and see whole galaxies, and you spin new ones in your head, too, with those games of yours. I’m starting to think there’s nothing you can’t do.”

“Cassiopeia . . .” he murmured, tracing a few of my freckles with his index finger. My heart was beating so hard, you’d think I was running a marathon. “The constellation. That’s what these freckles reminded me of the first day I saw you.” His fingers skimmed down the side of my face, tracing the contour of my jaw, stroking under my chin, then traveling over to my other cheek. “And maybe,” he added thoughtfully as he rubbed his thumb across another cluster of freckles, “these here could be Ursa Major.”

“I can’t taste, of course,” he explained in a low voice, not wanting to be overheard even if no one paid us any attention. “But I can choose things, and watch you, and . . . and you can describe them to me. How they taste, in detail. If it isn’t too much trouble.”

Eric’s eyes widened as I went on listing all the bird calls I could remember him copying. “You . . . you noticed.” “Of course I noticed.” Another sip—as Eric had said himself, for courage. “I notice all kinds of things about you. I notice that you hate the foyer as much as I do. I notice that you always point out Casseopeia first when we sit on the balcony, probably because it’s your favorite, but you also have a soft spot for Lyra, and you can find Cygnus without even looking straight at it. I notice that you dote on Pepper even though he scares you. I notice that you always say ‘ignore me’ when you’re starting to think of ideas, even though I damn well would never do that because everything you say is worth a listen. I notice that you sometimes can’t remember which other spirits we talked to yesterday, but you can remember all your favorite lines from books you read years ago. I notice how you love to talk with your hands. I notice that you taught yourself to read tea leaves just to make Síofra happy, because that’s the kind of friend you are. I notice that you have strong opinions about boy bands for someone who claims he can’t stand them. I notice that when you’re upset, your accent gets thicker and your r’s disappear. I notice that you talk about your sisters like they hung the moon. I notice that when I pay you a compliment, you always look a little more solid, like no one’s bothered giving you many of those before—but that has to be wrong, because anyone who’s known you for even just a month would surely be singing your praises at least as often as this thick-headed lad from the country. You deserve every lovely word in the world I can think of, and then some.”

“Because of you.” I paused to swallow, but my voice still came out low and unsteady as I gave what felt like a confession I’d been carrying for years: “And I’m not. Because of me—because I’m mad at myself for missing so many other chances to do this.”

I was so drawn to the spark of his energy, so overwhelmed by the way it danced against my skin, that I had done something big and vulnerable and asked him to eat for me.

POV: You’re the ghost he’s smiling at, the caption read, and my chest tightened. The top comment read: Find someone who looks at you the way this gorgeous man looks at . . . whatever’s on the ceiling. And beneath it: When your crush is invisible, but your joy is not. Smokeshow.exe has stopped working.

“Raff,” I said gently, “you flirt by arguing about the right way to eat Maltesers.”

Eric?” he added, a softly hopeful note in it. I loved when he said my name. “My knee is giving me awful grief, but would you come here a moment so I can kiss you and remind you that you can count on me?”

“Come up to Síofra’s balcony with me tonight, after we make the usual rounds—and count the remaining ghosts. We can watch the stars and talk in our place. Somewhere quiet. Okay?” The way he said our place warmed something in me that had been cold for years. “Wouldn’t miss it.”

“I think I need to focus on moving you on first,” he rushed to say. “Before you disappear on me, too. I can’t—” His voice broke, like the time he tried to sing Backstreet Boys. Only no one was laughing now. “I can’t risk that. You deserve peace. And I—I deserve to know that you’re somewhere good, not in a monster’s belly.”

Afraid of whatever came next. Afraid of losing Raff before we’d really had a chance to try out this thing between us.

Because the thought of losing him—really losing him—made something inside me unravel.

“Because he’s been alone for so long,” I managed, though my voice was mangled, “and he shouldn’t be. No one deserves that, but especially not him. I don’t want him getting hurt by another spirit, or spending all his time in a dungeon

“You came back.” His voice was warmer than it should have been. God, this was going to hurt. “You sound surprised,” I teased, forcing a smile.

“Then that’s what we’ll do. And we’ll make it fun while we’re at it, so you always smile when you think of me. So you don’t forget me.” “As if there’s any chance of that,” I said gruffly, my throat once again tightening on me. “Come here, then.”

“But we’re incredibly emotionally well-adjusted experts in the arts of romance and ghost hunting, and we make a great team,”

AKA ERIC’S AFTERLIFE AGENDA
That’s right. I stole Raff’s pen.
1. Finish one last D&D campaign
2. Learn how I really died (Maybe we can find an autopsy report)
3. Return overdue library books to Beacon Street
4. Eat a full Irish breakfast (Raff to eat, I’ll live vicariously)
5. Get drunk on Guinness (Raff again, taking one for the team)
6. Apologize to Chloe for missing her wedding (Email her? I know it’s weird)
7. Buy the teapot Mom wanted and ship it to the States
8. Take a selfie with a sheep
9. Win at pub trivia (In the castle will have to do. I’m calling our team Dead Inside)
10. I’ll tell you this one if we get there, Raff. In private.
For what it’s worth, I don’t even care about most of this stuff anymore—mostly number 2 and number 10. It’ll be good to get a message to my family, too. Hopefully this doesn’t mess up our spell from the village witch.

Number 10: I’d always wanted to bottom for someone. Not just anyone, though. Someone I trusted completely. Someone who saw me, and made me feel safe enough to let go. Someone I was sure I could invite in without regret.

“Eric . . . that was . . . don’t go anywhere,” he muttered, resting his head against mine. “I’m not,” I whispered. “I won’t. I’ve got you, and you’ve got me.”

Mostly by him, whenever I got a certain look on my face. “Still here.” For now, I didn’t say.

You spoiled me with the charcuterie board at the banquet, too.”

HE’S MINE “No, he’s mine “Yours? Is that how it is?” “Thought that was obvious.” I kissed his forehead and tried not to let him feel how I was still shaking at my core. “Mine,” I repeated to the restless gloom and shadows that moved on their own as we hurried outside for some fresh autumn air. “Mine.”

“I love you,” I whispered when he stirred slightly in his sleep. “Love you, Raff.”

At 8:26pm, I cried actual tears, because I knew Raff was doing it all—looking after the other ghosts—for me. Staying close to the danger for me.

“I used to hate it here. But now I don’t even regret getting stranded for sixteen years because I got to spend a little time with you. And I promise, wherever I’m going next, if I become stardust or drift through the universe or something else I can’t even think of, I’m never going to forget you. Life with you has been really, really good. Good enough that I’m at peace with everything even though I was murdered.”

“You’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me,” he rasped. “And I should’ve said it sooner, but I can’t let you leave without you knowing—I love you.” “I love you.” “I know,” I said, my chest heaving with a sob. “I counted the heartbeats.” “I love you so much,” he repeated with conviction, and the hopelessness of a doomed man who knew exactly what he was about to lose. “Don’t—” He stopped himself there, but I understood what he’d been about to say: don’t leave me. I also knew why he wasn’t saying it. Because he’d rather know I was safe than feeding the elemental that might still hurt him or a lot of other innocent people. “I’ll live on in you,” I told him gently, leaning in to kiss his cheek. “As long as you remember me, I’ll never really leave you. But I know, I—I don’t want to face what’s next without you, either, when I only just found out how good it can be to have someone who holds your hand in the dark.”

I turned to Raff, and felt a tug warmer and sharper than anything this place could offer. I chose the shape of my body, breath and ache and being loved by him. As long as he was in the world, I wasn’t done with it after all. I chose to stay, letting the world pull me back into myself, reshaping my physical form from that tidewater of memory. I wasn’t done yet. Half-asleep, I nuzzled his hair, which tickled my nose and smelled like belonging. He was my reason to stay. I was home.

“I have a pulse!” I yelped when he opened his startled eyes to peer blearily into mine. And then I added, because I could, “And I love you.” “Yours, and alive,” “I think, because of that spell we did, I got to choose, and I wanted to stay here with you. To fight stupid evil Gary together and free the other ghosts if we can, and . . . be your boyfriend . . . and try your mom’s colcannon

“If I die again,” Eric said bravely, squeezing my hand, “I want it to be with you.”

“Next is the part where I get to keep you,” I told Eric as I scooped up Pepper and passed him to the person he really wanted to see.

He was crying and saying yes before he even saw the ring. Which he loved once he finally stopped kissing me and took a proper look at it. “Can I have your last name?” he asked as a wave slammed into the side of the boat. I held tight to him, one hand clutching his jacket while I gripped the rail for dear life with my other. The Irish Sea was unpredictable at the best of times. “I mean,” he added once we had leveled out and heard some shouted reassurance from the captain, “I know it’s old-fashioned or whatever, but since I’m supposedly Irish now anyway, I just figured—” “Anything I have is yours,” I cut in, because I was glad to give it to him.

And then we got to work on the idea that was born that night: The Living Dead Guys.

“I’m Raff O’Meara,” I’d say during our intro, leaning over the mic and winking at Eric. “Former ExorSquad employee who lived to tell the tale.” “And I’m Eric O’Meara,” he’d chime in, already that excited by his new last name. “Just a random guy who knows a lot about what it’s like to be dead.”

Argh, I am loving how each new author who contributes to this series continues to develop the world's lore around the paranormal. Sarah Glenn Marsh’s take on this world had me on the verge of tears. The lore she added had me on tenterhooks, not knowing how things were going to end for Eric and Raff.

Rafferty O’Mera, better known as Raff, was a Hurling champion. The sport ran in his veins, and he was headed for great things, until a freak accident caused him to tear his ACL, effectively ending his career before it started. Fighting depression and the reminder of what could have been, Raf turned his back on his life and friends to find something else. What he found was ExorSquad. After a few successful missions under his belt, he is given the job of clearing out the ghosts from Ardruin Castle. But what waits for him will change his life forever.
Raff is determined; he also comes across as slightly depressed following the upheaval his ACL injury created in his life. He’s also a very kind person, always looking for ways to help move on ghosts in a respectful manner. He puts their wellbeing above his own, even when helping one ghost in particular makes him feel like his own world is about to end.

Eric James Crawford has been dead for 16 years, but only recently has he ‘awoken’ in his ghost form. He is a powerful ghost, building up friendships with the other ghosts haunting Ardruin Castle. They can sometimes find it hard to contain themselves, and recently it has been causing a few issues for the Castle owners. When Raff appears to move them all along, Eric feels a strange connection between their energies, and can’t help but start to get to know him better.
Eric is a nerd, capital N. He remembers being on holiday with his family from America, but not the events that led to his death. He is protective of his found family, and when things turn south for them all, He will do anything, including trying to move on, to protect the man he has started to fall in love with.

I loved this story so much; the emotions Sarah evoked through her story had me sighing with euphoria as Eric and Raff explored their friendship and then watching as it eventually developed into more. This was a bit of a slow-burn romance to start off with, but when they discovered what each other wanted/desired, the sparks flew and it got raunchy quite quickly. I love how Raff treated Eric with so much care and devotion, worshipping him like he deserved to be, and how Eric did the same for Raff. I love how they noticed the little things about each other, and how they adjusted to be able to support each other in the way they needed.

As the story progressed and the antagonist started rearing their head, my heart started to break as they made choices they thought necessary to protect each other. I had to put the book down several times as my eyes betrayed me and filled with tears. But that’s what makes a great story: that emotional connection. And boy did I have one for these characters! The ending was perfection; I love the way it was hinted at throughout the story and how it all came to fruition at the end.

I 100% recommend this story to anyone wanting a ghost romance.

This book made me so happy while I was reading it! I instantly fell in love with the characters, the Ireland vibes, setting and language - it was perfect!

I had a lot of fun reading about Raff's experiences with ExorSquad. Compared to some of the other books in the series, Raff actually managed to gain quite a bit of experience and I really liked his approach to dealing with the various spirits he encountered along the way.

Raff has taken some serious blows to his self-esteem and feelings of self-worth, making him react defensively whenever he feels vulnerable, while also inspiring a stubborn streak a mile wide. This trait is both positive and a flaw. He comes across as gruff and angry, but beneath that hard exterior lies a generous and very protective heart. He takes his job very seriously and no ghost - no matter how drop-dead gorgeous he is - will stop him from doing the job he was hired to do....or so he thinks.

Eric is an absolute sweetheart! He also has a big heart and takes care of his friends and family - biological and those found after death. This group now includes Raff, who Eric is instantly drawn to from the moment he sets his eyes on him. Now Eric will do anything he can to protect Raff.

The bond these two share is so strong and pure; the friendship they grow goes deep and the feelings that inevitably come up are giving "in this and every lifetime" vibes.
Raff helps Eric with his version of a "ghost bucket list" and, among other things, the physical exploration is sweet, hot, swoon-worthy, filled with interesting kinks and is just so beautifully written that your heart melts.
The way these two interact with each other is so fun, easy-going, almost conspiratorial in certain instances, not to mention some of the steamier scenes will have a flush creeping up your neck.

The only thing threatening this bond is the clock ticking down and a malevolent being lurking and watching, making it clear that no one will take what belongs to it. This malevolent being is super creepy and certain scenes gave me goosebumps.

The side characters Jordy, Briar, Caoimhe, Niamh, Pepper, Siofra and all the other spirits in the castle absolutely bring so much life (😅) to the story, filling it with heart and soul.

There is a touch of magic and witchcraft in the story that I absolutely loved. It tied in perfectly with the haunted setting, the spirits and Halloween looming around the corner.

The book was a journey of healing, second chances, closure, and fulfillment. This book had it all!

I swear, this author can write ANYTHING and I will be there for it. I’m always amazed by how she manages to take completely different ideas and make every single one work, and this book was no exception. I’m so thankful to be part of her street team because getting to read her books and share them with everyone is seriously the best! If you’re a Halloween fan AND an MM romance lover, you absolutely need to give this one a chance. The story follows Rafferty O’Meara, a former hurling star who now works for the very questionable ExorSquad ghost removal service. His biggest assignment yet takes him to a haunted castle in Ireland, where he’s supposed to get the ghosts under control before Halloween. The biggest problem is one of those ghosts is Eric, an American tourist who is chaotic, sarcastic, loves D&D, and very quickly becomes someone Raff can’t imagine simply sending on.What starts as a ghost hunting job turns into something so much more as Raff and Eric try to figure out how Eric died, deal with the other ghosts in the castle, and uncover the much darker presence lurking there. There’s the best Halloween energy, ghosts, mystery, humor, romance, and that perfect MM love story all mixed together.I really think it’s important to give romances like this a chance, especially if you don’t normally pick up paranormal or MM romance. And honestly, give this author a chance too! She is so incredibly talented at creating stories that are fun, emotional, unique, and completely memorable. I never know what she’s going to come up with next, but I know I’m going to want to read it. If you’re looking for something spooky, romantic, funny this Halloween add this one to your list!

💀 How I Met Your Murderer by Sarah Glenn Marsh

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Okay, I think I have officially reached the point where I will read anything with ExorSquad slapped on the cover. 😂

Every time I pick up one of these books, I know I'm getting paranormal chaos, ridiculous humour, romance, and characters I will inevitably become way too attached to.

And How I Met Your Murderer was no exception.

This one had me laughing, trying to figure out what the hell was going on, getting invested in the romance, and once again wondering why I am so emotionally attached to a bunch of supernatural weirdos. 😂

I really love the way this series balances the paranormal elements with the romance and humour. There are darker and more emotional moments, but they never completely take over the story. Just when things start getting a little too serious, something happens that has me sitting there like:

WHAT THE FUCK? 😂

And honestly, I wouldn't have it any other way.

The mystery was also a lot of fun. I was trying to piece things together and convince myself I had figured everything out, only to have the story make me question my theories.

Rude.

But I love when a book makes me actually think instead of just sitting back and watching everything happen.

The characters are still one of my favourite things about this series, though. I love that the relationships between everyone feel genuine, and that the found-family aspect continues to grow. These aren't just random characters who happen to exist in the same universe. You can actually feel the history and connection between them, and I LOVE that shit. ❤️

And of course, we get the romance.

There is chemistry, there is flirting, there are emotional moments, and there is definitely some spice. 👀🔥

I enjoyed watching the relationship develop alongside all the supernatural nonsense happening around them. Because apparently these people can't just fall in love normally. They have to throw ghosts, murder, chaos, and whatever the hell else into the mix.

Typical ExorSquad. 😂

What You’ll Get:

👻 Paranormal M/M Romance
💀 Murder Mystery
🖤 Hurt/Comfort
😂 Dark Humour
❤️ Found Family
🔥 Spice
👀 Forced Proximity
✨ Supernatural Shenanigans
💀 Mystery & Mayhem
🥺 Characters you will absolutely get attached to

If you're already reading the ExorSquad series, you probably don't need me to tell you to pick this one up.

And if you haven't started the series yet...

WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?! 😂

I continue to have an absolute blast with these books. They're funny, they're weird, they're emotional, they're spicy, and they have exactly the kind of paranormal chaos that keeps me coming back for more.

Basically, I came for the ghosts and romance and somehow ended up emotionally invested in the entire damn cast.

Again.

Rude. 😂❤️

Oh boy, do I have a great spooky season recommendation for you! It’s October and that means sweaters, lattes with autumn flavours, and Halloween around the corner.

Raff is trying to figure out what’s next after losing his sport from a career-ending injury. It’s too soon to turn to coaching, so why not buy a van, a mattress, and hit the road to become a ghost exorcist… Turns out he has a knack for it. He accepts a couple month long contract to work at the haunted Castle Ardruin (the last guy died 😬)
He’s learns the past of each of the ghosts, befriending them, and finds out what would keep each of them happy.
Tunes out there’s something quite nefarious afoot though 😮

Raff’s heart shines through with his care of the ghosts, but also has he falls more and more for Eric - the ghost of a young man murdered years before. The relationship between the two grows organically and beautifully. I loved their story!
The other ghosts, the castle owners (and the decorator) are such great side characters that really helped bringing everything together. The book has quite the unlikely found family.

There is humour and heart aplenty! Also gets rather spicy in the last 40% or so…

Thank you so much to Sarah for giving me an ARC of How I Met Your Murderer. It is always an honor to read and explore the worlds you craft. Never change.

A little secret about me, I am always hesitant with Paranormal Romances. But I knew when I found out Sarah Glenn Marsh was writing one, I would be taking the chance and diving head first and I am so glad I did.

I love Raff so much. I felt for him from the first page. Sarah was able to write a character that is so lovable and adorable. And I can’t forget Eric either, both are fantastic MMCs!

I am completely and whole heartedly in love with their love story; it was falling in love slowly with all the tenderness. Written on page, their dialogue and connection are built right in front of you.

Sarah Glenn Marsh always has a way to build a world brick by brick and each brick has a purpose and is carried throughout the book. Which leads to a beautiful world that feels so well lived-in. HIMYM is such an amazing example of their ability. Especially when this world is such a beautiful blend of realism and paranormal. Everything felt so real, like I could go to Ireland and explore this castle and meet all it’s occupants.

I cannot go without mentioning all the references to Irish Culture. From the traditional Irish names, inclusion of Irish dialogue, and setting of the novel. What a joy it was to see a sliver of Sarah’s Irish Heritage and the care and love that was put in to HIMYM.

Overall this book raised and set standards for paranormal romances! It’s the perfect book for the spooky season!
TDLR: Talk about raising my standards! Raff’s and Eric’s story warmed my heart, body, and soul like a hot cup of tea. The love story was gorgeous and illustrated on the page effortlessly and evoked emotion deep from my core. I laughed. I cried. And I feel in love with two amazing MMCs. The love for these characters, their story, and the lore are so evident on every page. I cannot recommend this book enough!

Raff has had some pretty good luck with Exorsquad up until the point where he gets a call for a haunting in a castle that two siblings are hoping to open to the public. Problem is, there are way too many ghosts in there that keep harassing everyone that goes in. While he’s there, Raff meets Eric. A lovely ghost with a sweet heart and a love of D&D.

You can expect:
-ghost x human with a HEA
-a dark entity mystery that they have to solve.
-very much, a fun vibe, even though some of the themes are kind of sad

This was just another awesome installment in the series, and I really loved the characters in this one! Though I did find the pacing of the plot a little bit odd in this one, I really enjoyed all of the specific details that were written in to the story. It felt like the author really treated these two characters with a lot of care. I liked that the ending was well thought out, and it really put a smile on my face. ❤️

Even though this isn’t my favourite in the series, I still had a really fun time reading it, and I highly recommend reading this series for anyone who loves paranormal romance, ghosts, hauntings, or just wants to get seasonal this fall 👻

This was the most heartfelt one of the series I think thus far. Wow, I was deep in my feeling so much. The journey for Raff and Eric’s HEA was a rollercaster in the best way, and I’m so happy that I got a chance to read it.

Eric died at the castle while on vacation, he has no memory of it but does okay haunting it and hanging with his ghostly friends. When Raff comes in to help what new owners with their little ghost problem he’s drawn to him immediately, Raff is all light to Eric and he wants to protect him and get to know him. Raff is also drawn to Eric, I do love an instant attraction! There is a big evil that is haunting the castle, and it’s out to get them all, humans and ghosts alike and Raff is determined to help Eric move on and protect everyone from it before the big opening. Even if it means he won’t get to be with Eric.

These two men, they are do giving and helpful to everyone, they just want to save their friends and found family. And their loves, each other. Their road to their HEA is full of tasks that made me laugh and cry, they are just so sweet together. Never do they waiver in their goal of helping others, even when faced with something they do not understand and are scared. They are brave and support each other the whole time. It’s just so beautiful and wonderful to read. I swear each one I read is my new favourite but for different reasons, this time it’s because this has so much heart in it, you can feel their love on the page. I’m beyond happy with their HEA, witchcraft for the win

How I Met Your Murderer is part of the multi author ExorSquad series. Each book can be read as a standalone but why not enjoy the whole series. This is the story of Rafferty(Raff) a ghost hunter and Eric a ghost. This was just a fun addition to the series. I loved watching these two fall in love while working to solve the mystery. I loved the characters and world building that went into this book. This was my first book by Sarah Glenn Marsh but it won't be my last. I would definitely recommend this book and series as 5 star reads.

Up to book 6 of the ExorSquad series and I am already starting to miss it, even though I still have two more books to go.
Another great addition to the series, with two of the most likeable leads yet - Raff and Eric certainly had my heart. There were some truly beautiful scenes between them, and I shed a few tears towards the end of the book with how beautiful their story was.
Here's my favourite quote from the book: 'I was never enough for the people I had spent my whole life trying to impress. But with Raff? I was more than enough, and I didn't even have to try.'
Here's the story, Raff has started the Ireland leg of ExorSquad after injury cut short his curling career. He is good luck so far with ghost hunting, but heads to a very haunted castle, where things are worse than seem. Here he meets Eric, an American ghost, who like many here, died mysteriously. As Halloween approaches it obvious that something very dark is threatening all the living and dead inhabitants of the castle.
Besides our wonderful leads, there are some great supporting character - just like the rest of books in this series, the others ghosts are all filled with wonderful characters who provide heart and humour.
A wonderful read!

Now that the book has had its announcement! It’s finally review time!! First of all I couldn’t wait for how Sarah was going to have this story play out when we first talked about it forever ago, WHEN I was asked if I wanted to be a side character IN THE BOOK!!! Like um, absolutely yes, immediately, 100000%. Automatic 5 Star. The story Sarah built for the two main characters was surprising to me, cause let’s be honest, how
was a human x ghost going to work? Well you’ll have to read to find out just how well Sarah captured the relationship these two souls built. Sarah created such a huge and descriptive world (even with most of the story taking place JUST inside the castle!!) All the spirits left behind had such fun personalities, and brought the story together as a whole! Raff & Eric were done so well, and as someone who loves horror and spirits and the supernatural, this one ticked all the boxes (don’t worry it’s not like scary though!) Also we don’t like Gary. This book has it all, The Gays, The Animals, The Side characters, The Spice, The Humor, AND ME, did I mention that?! you name it, Sarah got it! So go preorder I am super grateful for being able to BETA read *another* book for Sarah! So go add it on GR, or wherever you review or do anything with books! K thanks!

First, I want to thank Sarah Glenn Marsh for the gifted eARC of How I Met Your Murderer to read and provide my honest, spoiler free review!

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My Thoughts:
It is once again time to talk about another installment of the ExorSquad series! How is this series almost over? I have been enjoying my time with this series and this installment was such a fun time!

I absolutely loved that this one was based in Ireland. I absolutely love when authors can incorporate the language of where their books are based in into their stories. The castle scenery was perfect and carried just the right amount of spooky factor for the story. Castles are one of those architectural wonders that always capture my attention so I definitely enjoyed my time being in there and getting to know the ghosts that haunt it.

I really liked the idea of Raff and Eric. With Eric being a ghost and not knowing who murdered him, I was so ready for Raff to help him figure it out. I love how willing Raff was to help Eric piece together who murdered him and seeing these two work together and form such a beautiful friendship just had my heart melting. Their relationship was so beautiful to watch and I loved how it morphed from friendship to something much stronger and deeper. They were truly meant for each other and you can easily see that when reading this book.

There are only a few more installments left and I don’t want this series to end! I loved this one and can’t wait to see what else is coming next.

The title for book 6 in the Exorsquad Series is, How I Met Your Murderer and Sarah continues the tradition of writing a smash can't put down read.
I do love me a ginger, I married one, but there is more to Raff and his tangled curls. Raff has to be the most endearing character. He is sweet, charming and has this way of being the first to help, no alterior motive, except to be of use. He has taken a shite job with elExorsquad and learns quickly that Gerald didn't set him up for success. He utilizes that heartwarming personality, empathy, and quick thinking to comes up with alternative ways to help the ghosts and people living with these not necessarily evil entities. Simple things like leaving out snacks, new toys, a little routine and fun makes for happy, less mischievous ghosts.

Then along comes Eric, a bit of a klepto for anything Raff. He immediately has this overwhelming desire to protect Raff while admiring those broad shoulder. He offers to help navigate this ancient castle and its oh so many occupants. They make a great team, the best team.

Raff figures out there is more to this haunting and enlists the help of Niamh, a local witch. Niamh she breaths hope into Raff, and a way to protect Eric. This part was so interesting to watch unravel. As these two smitten men shared in tasks to help Eric it also woke something in Raff.

This book had a lovely spooky mystery, amazing side characters, including a leg humping Pepper. As I read I kept think how is Sarah going to make this a happy ever after, this better be a hea or Gary won't be the real big bad it will be the author. But it slowly developed as the character arc unfolded over a two month time period, slow, sweet and from friendship love always grows. There was another god forsaken chandelier, seriously always thought they brought whimsy and twinkle but I will never trust them again. 😄
I came away with a new favourite saying too...acting the maggot!

And you know your limits, so read the author's content warnings
Thank you Sarah Glenn Marsh for this ARC. I received an advanced reader copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I swear, this series just keeps getting better, and Raff and Eric completely stole my heart.

Raff starts this book in such a different place emotionally, and I really loved watching him find a sense of purpose again. He’s sent to a haunted castle to deal with the ghosts, only to end up actually caring about them and trying to help instead. Then he meets Eric, an American ghost who has been stuck at the castle for years and doesn’t even know the truth about how he died.

These two were so sweet together. Their relationship takes its time, and I loved that their connection wasn’t just about attraction. They genuinely started to understand and care for each other, and watching Raff help Eric work through his unfinished business had me in my feelings more than once.

The ghost-hunting mystery was really fun too, especially with all the different ghosts and the whole situation surrounding Eric’s death. There was plenty of humor mixed in with the heavier moments, which made the emotional parts hit even harder.

And that ending? I was genuinely stressed about how everything was going to work out, but the payoff was SO worth it. I may have gotten a little emotional.

Raff and Eric deserved their happy ending, and I loved getting to watch them find their way to each other. Another fantastic addition to ExorSquad, and I already know I’m going to miss this series when it’s over.

Okay, I absolutely LOVED this one! Give me a gorgeous ghost, a creepy Irish castle, a murder mystery and two men with undeniable chemistry and I am SOLD. 😂

Rafferty O’Meara finds himself working for ExorSquad and gets sent to a castle absolutely crawling with ghosts. His job should be straightforward, but then he meets Eric James Crawford—a gorgeous ghost who was murdered at the castle and has no idea who killed him.
And these two?! 😍 I was OBSESSED!

I loved the way Raff and Eric's relationship developed. There was so much banter, flirting and chemistry, but underneath all of that was this really sweet connection. Raff becomes determined to help Eric discover the truth about his death, and watching that friendship slowly turn into something more had me grinning like an idiot.

The mystery was so much fun too! There were secrets, creepy supernatural happenings and plenty of moments where I was trying to figure out exactly what had happened to Eric. The whole castle setting gave everything such a deliciously spooky atmosphere.

But honestly, it was the combination of romance, humour and paranormal chaos that completely won me over. I was laughing one minute, getting suspicious about the murder the next, and then swooning over Raff and Eric. 😂❤️
I adored these two, I loved the supernatural mystery, and I am VERY much ready for more ExorSquad!

Ohhh Eric and Raff, a story that is so sweet it hurts, the yearning the two show for each other will have you kicking and squeaking once they finally lean into the feeling they have found blossoming between the two. I did the ending to come really fast, but I loved the ending that we got for Eric and Raff, it was heartwarming and what both of these sweetheart deserved. Raff & Eric are officially my new favorite of Sarah's couples! I'm obsessed! Raff is an injured former hurler who puts community before self (swoon) and is hoping that the ExorSquad will give him a new sense of purpose. Eric is a deceased game designer looking for love and the approval his parents never offered (mom hugs needed). They choose one another and it's magical. There's a scene in which they discuss what they notice about one another, and I cried so hard. The love!

What you'll find between the covers:
☆ Jock x Nerd
☆ The yearning
☆ Acapella summoning
☆ Flirting with food
☆ A van with a mattress
☆ A weiner dog desperate to hump ghost leg
☆ Making a sofa unsellable
And sooooooo much more!

Honorable mention goes to the setting. It's spooky season perfection - a haunted Irish castle with a bloody past and the ghosts to prove it.

Five stars for vibes, making me cry both happy and sad tears, inspiring me to do research, and a love strong enough to qualify as necromancy.

How I Met Your Murderer has been one of those books I’ve been looking forward to for months.

Being part of Sarah’s Street Team meant hearing about Raff and Eric long before I ever got to meet them, so finally reading their story felt a little like meeting friends of a friend for the first time. And honestly, I completely understood the hype.

This book is chaotic, funny, wonderfully horny, and surprisingly tender. Raff and Eric have such a fun dynamic, but what really got me was how much heart there is underneath all the ghosts and general mayhem.

Sarah’s love for these characters is so evident in the writing, and I think that’s what made them feel so special to me. I also absolutely loved the way Ireland became part of the story itself. It’s atmospheric without ever overshadowing the characters.

I’ve been waiting for this one for what feels like forever, and I’m so happy I finally got to meet Raff and Eric. I have a feeling this is going to become one of those books I pull off the shelf every spooky season.

Get ready to meet Mr Allstar & Mr Brightside/Chaotic Good Boy aka Raff & Eric

Rafferty (Raff) thought he had hit rock bottom after an injury cost him his Hurling career. After not being able to take the pity whispers or what felt like pity handout jobs, he found himself checking out the classified where he finds the most unusual job that required no skill; UK’s Leading Ghost Removal Service- The ExoSquad which shitty pay removing spirits with what look like a vacuum that he hoped would work when he actually needed it too.

Rule #465 keeping dating life in the afterlife separate😏

Enter Eric, One of the unfortunate spirits stuck at Ardruin Castle so loves to mess with the visitors as well as his fellow ghost companions. With how serious Raff took things, Eric was still able to melt his way into his heart 🥹 and was so protective of him, wanting to keep him from harm.

This made for the perfect cute Halloween hunting story. I love how the chemistry between Raff & Eric slowly built up with their energy just drawn to each other. Little things like stargazing every night while enjoying tea quickly became one of my favorite things reading about them snuggling together with Raff not caring how cold he was around Eric.
Raff the sexy redhead 🫦 the knight we readers turn the pages for. Literally!! singing Britney’s “baby one more time” on his knees was adorable, even with the bad knee. His determination to help every spirit move on

This also has some really cute side characters too, like Pepper the “demon” dog that loves to hump Eric 😂, Seamus 🐑 and I especially loved Síofra🥹 even though she scared the shit out of me in the beginning🤣

This is slow burn but when the burn starts….🥵🔥🔥🔥🔥 Sarah definitely brought on the heat. You fall in love with Eric and Raff so easily and HARD!!!! That you find yourself thinking while reading a romance novel about a human and a ghost, how will they have a HEA?! Trust me, they really do get their happy ever after🥹 I squealed and cried for them🥹😭

This is the first time I have read this author and I loved the characters and story a lot. The boys are so sweet and have such gentle souls. Raff is always looking out for others before him self and he has the purest heart and a burning inner strength. Eric is also a sweetheart and the cutest little nerd. I loved watching these two slowly fall in love and connect with each other on a deeper level. The side characters were just as fun and unique in their personalities. You will love this book if you want a book about two souls from different worlds teaming up to uncover the darkness surrounding the castle, while falling for each other against all reason.

Look as soon as Sarah revealed not one but TWO phenomenal covers I knew I was gonna adore this one and I was so right.

I love that we truly truly got to see them fall in love here. Yes, there were a lot of ghosties to defeat or help, but there was also just a lot of time that they were spending together and getting to know each other and I adore that little realistic feeling (even if Eric is a ghost LOL). It makes for a more slow burn/friends to lovers feel and I loved it for Eric and Rafe who both needed caretaking in their own ways.

BUT it does also have a lot of oh no what's gonna happen squirmy tummy anticipation feelings that I loved as you wonder how it will all resolve. But rest assured, it's a very satisfying HEA.

This is the first book I've read by this author, and it certainly won't be the last!!
From the very beginning, the book captivated me. Raff and Eric are an irresistible couple that you just want to protect at all costs.
I like it because, while it's attraction at first sight (my favorite!), the author takes her time developing their relationship. While reading the book, I was "worried" about how they were going to introduce the spicy elements without it feeling forced, and the author handles it wonderfully 🤌🏻🤌🏻🔥🔥

The icing on the cake of this book is the secondary characters. All the ghosts have their own storylines and reasons for being there, and Raff charms them all 🤣. My favorite ghost is definitely Siofra 🥹

There were moments when I wanted to smack Caoimhe, but in the end, you understand a little why he is the way he is.

I'll just say... Damn you, Gary!!

In short... I LOVED IT!!

Thanks to the author for giving me the opportunity to read the book early; however, my opinions are my own and mine alone.

I really wish I could give this a higher rating than 5. This book was amazing, all of the ExorSquad books so far have been brilliant but this has been one of my all time favourites.

As with all previous books there is a ghost plot woven throughout...yet again we have Gerald up to his old tricks, how he is still operating a business is anyone's guess at this point! Raff is working for the Irish side of it and out of everyone (perhaps bar Hollis) is one of the most competent members of the team. His latest job at Ardruin Castle however definitely pushes him to his limits and it was really enjoyable to read.

That said, what drew me in the most was Raff and Eric, the way their relationship developed was just beautiful. For me the ghost plot took more of a back seat instead focusing on these two. Their relationship just felt so real and organic, the almost kiss, the actual kissing and eventual intimate scenes along with their rounds, star gazing and eating together. I couldn't believe how much I adored these two.

From start to end, I was emotionally connected to this book, I laughed and I cried which I hadn't expected at all but no regrets. It left me wanting more to be honest, the epilogue was fantastic but I would love to see what happened further down the line with them.

I won't be forgetting this book anytime soon or these characters. Anyone looking for good book recommendations from me will be getting this shouted at them!!

Loved it! ❤️
This is the first book I’ve read by this author, but it definitely won’t be my last. I’ll be checking out their other books for sure!
Reading this was honestly such a pleasure. It’s warm, loving, hopeful, and full of those lovely little moments of unexpected joy that sneak up on you and leave you ridiculously happy.

The ghost-hunting mystery was ridiculously fun, especially with all the different ghosts and the whole tangled situation surrounding their deaths. There was plenty of humour woven through the heavier moments, and it worked so well. Somehow, the funny moments made the emotional ones hit even harder. Basically, the story said, “Have a laugh!” and then immediately followed it with, “Now suffer.”

The story is set in Ireland, so naturally there are plenty of Irish names and phrases throughout. Thankfully, there’s a glossary to help! I also sent the names on to my Irish friend and asked her to voice-note me the pronunciations because butchering them in my head was simply not an option.

At its heart, this was such a beautiful journey of healing, second chances, closure, and finally finding that sense of fulfilment. Basically, this book came fully prepared to give me ALL THE FEELINGS.

A gorgeous, heartfelt read with plenty of humour, hope, ghosts, and emotional damage. What more could you want!!
