For years, I have worked behind the scenes for my cousin’s band, living my life as simply as possible. Running the inner workings of a rock band is the only thing I know to do. My only saving grace is a long vacation soaking up the sun in some exotic locations around the world between tours. One steamy night on an island with Taylor Vaughn, the guitarist for the rock band Fatal Cross, and my world is turned upside down. When he doesn’t return my calls, I end up going through hell alone. Little do I know, he’s fighting his own personal demons. When he fills in on my cousin’s tour for a few weeks, I am forced to work with the man who stole my heart months before on a private island. It isn’t easy being around him, but I am determined to keep my head low and pray this tour ends soon, but does anything ever go as planned?
Theresa is a mother of two and the wife of a retired Air Force Master Sergeant. After seventeen years traveling the country, moving from base to base, the family has settled their roots back in Theresa’s home town of Olive Branch, MS., where she enjoys her time with old friends and family.
Theresa daydreams of the perfect love affair and takes those ideas to paper.
The premise of this book is what drew me into reading it. For me, if the premise would have played out a little bit better, this would have got a higher rating for me.
I liked both Taylor and Cora, and I liked them together. Taylor seemed really sincere in his feelings toward Cora. I would have liked for them to have been introduced to me from the beginning of them meeting, not coming into the relationship and then getting the back story.
I saw that this is the first in a series. But I am wondering if there is not another series that maybe I should have read first, because there are just SO MANY other characters in this book, characters that I really didn't have an interest in.
All in all this was a quick, enjoyable book. If a few things between Taylor and Cora would have been different, or if I would have known them during there "brief affair" before this actual story I think I would have enjoyed this book so much more.
So this is the first book by this author that I've read, but won't be the last. I met the author at the 2nd annual Kinky in Kansas City romance author convention this past March. I didn't get a picture with her, because I usually only do that with authors I already have read and know that I like their books. This was definitely a book that was hard to put down. I'd pick it up, and tell myself I was only going to read a chapter or two before bed, but before I knew it, I'd read several more chapters than that. I liked all the characters, and I like that it seemed like it was pretty realistic the way things were handled. There were definitely moments that had me crying, based on what what happening to the characters or how they were feeling about things that had happened or things that they'd done. I like that it puts in the fact that drugs are probably pretty matter of fact in the world of rock stars, but that our characters are all fighting to stay sober and clean. Of course I also loved that the tour went to Kansas City, my town! My only real issue with the book, and it is totally silly, is that there were no page numbers. :-) It made it hard for me to keep track in Goodreads how far I was. I know, that's stupid. And it isn't anything that made me mark it down in rating. Just something that bugged my anal reading habits.
I'm a sucker for a rock star romance, especially when they're done well. I went to bed and read the whole thing in about 3 hours before going to sleep.
These are basically good guys that play music. They aren't partying twenty four seven. They take their careers seriously. There is also a family vibe about them. There were definitely moments that had me crying, based on what what happening to the characters or how they were feeling about things that had happened or things that they'd done.
Coraline has been on the road with her cousin's band since she was eighteen. She loves taking care of the guys in Glory Days. Not only is she a roadie, she is also their tour manager. She keeps them in line and knowing where they need to be at all times. Having done this for a bit, she has one rule. Don't mix business with personal. Until her cousin's band toured with Fatal Cross.
Taylor Vaughn was taken with Coraline from the get go. He loves everything about her. Tracking her down in the Azores was the only way he knew how to get her alone and away from work. He had to try. He thought they had a fantastic couple of days, but when he went home after that, he was so busy and something bad happened. He knew he would see her in a few weeks, so he wanted to wait to explain until he could tell her face to face. He didn't want to talk to her when she had called because he had been struggling with his sobriety and didn't want to have her see him like that. He wanted to keep the bad away from her. Now it might just cost him everything.
I can't wait to read the next book in the series 'Fatal Temptations'.
I loved this book! The author's take on the rock and roll scene has a fresh feel. These are basically good guys that play music. They aren't partying twenty four seven. They take their careers seriously. There is also a family vibe about them. The story is hot, the guys are hotter, and the female lead in the book is a feisty gal that knows her stuff. All the way to the perfect match for the cover model on the book. This book is just great. Well, she stuck to her rule until after the tour ended and she went on vacation. When Taylor Vaughn showed up on the beach in the Azores, she let down her guard. They had the hottest connection she had ever experienced. But after that, he didn't return any of her calls. When she found out she was pregnant, she was alone. And then things went very badly. Suffering through all that with Taylor ignoring her many calls hurt her badly. She thought she would be ok, but Taylor would be coming on the tour with Glory Days to fill in as guitarist while Gabe Miller is home with his new baby. What could go wrong? This story is so different because it is a story about two people who care about each other only things go sideways. It is a question of is love enough? They are both good people. And the secondary story line in the book is filled with so much suspense, it is near impossible to set the book down! I was almost afraid to turn the page because I didn't want anything bad to happen. This book has it all; sexy rockers, cool chicks, bad guys, music, family, the works! I highly recommend this book. It can be read before the Glory Days books if you haven't read those yet, but I promise you that you will want to read them after you get a peek at the guys from the band. If you have already read all the Glory Days books, seeing them again in this series will be a real treat. I cannot wait for the next book in this series! While I wait, I am going to get caught up on the other series because I really want to know more about the hunky guys from Glory Days after reading this book.
Cora Maddox is tour manager and roadie extraordinaire for her cousin’s band Glory Days and has been since she was a kid. She is tiny but mighty and no one knows how to get shit done for a band better than her. Her only problem now is Taylor Vaughn, guitarist for Fatal Cross Live. The little island fling they had while she was on vacation showed her how much she really liked him, but when she tried to contact him for months afterwards he wouldn't take or return her calls and that showed her that he really was just looking for someone to warm his bed. Taylor Vaughn, didn’t have a rough childhood his problems started when he and his band fell face first into the sex, drugs, and rock and roll life style. Yes, he was a man whore but something about little Coraline Maddox set him on fire. He knows he screwed the pooch when he never returned her calls but he had to get clean, be better so that when he next came to her he could beg his forgiveness and he could be the man she needed. Now that they have to be together, because he’s filling in for Glory Day’s guitarist, she doesn’t know how she is going to face him but she knows that she isn’t going to let him know how bad he hurt her. Man, Hissong is great at writing a rock story she really makes you feel like you are there. How she wrote about Taylor’s addiction problems and how he struggled to get clean and stay clean was awesome. You can tell that Cora and Taylor feel for each other, even after the shit that they’ve been through. When they need each other the most though will they be able to stand strong or will they crash and burn? I’ll never tell!!!! Lol!!! Check out Taylor, Cora, and the rest of the Fatal Desire crew to find out.
Loved this book. It was my first rocker novel and was an awesome story of second chances and romance. Theresa Hissong has started a wonderful series. I can't wait to read the second book!! Edit Delete
Who doesn’t like a hot rocker story? This is a spin off of the Glory Days series. I didn’t realize that until I was about half way through the book. However, it didn’t stop me from continuing Cora’s and Taylor’s story. Cora works for her cousin’s band and she has a tryst with Taylor, a guitarist from another band, Fatal Cross. They have an incredible time and then go their separate ways. After their brief, but very hawt time together they both end up dealing with some very intense situations. They both could have leaned on each other but couldn’t connect (you must read this because I can’t explain and give it away!). All of a sudden they are slammed back into a situation where they are forced to work together. The tension is so thick between the two that you can literally feel it as you are reading. They both are incredibly stubborn and have an intense back and forth throughout the entire book that when they finally fall together you really feel it deep down.
“Rule number one...don’t sleep with rockstars who’ve dipped their pen in so much ink that their cocks are stained from all the attention.”
This is one of my favorite lines. Again, both of the characters are super strong willed and stubborn so when they bump heads it gets crazy!
As the story progresses you get to see how these two eventually get back to each other, even if it involves tragic situations. This is one of those stories that is quick and easy to read but will have your emotions all over the place. As I said at the beginning, this is the first book I have read by this author, and I didn’t realize this was a spin off series, but I am looking forward to continuing this series as well as going back to read Glory Days.
Admittedly, this was a reread for me - which actually justifies the 5 star ranking in that alone. I very rarely intentionally reread, but this series is too good not to revisit now and again. There's always something new to cling on to, and with Coraline there is no shortage of those kinds of moments. From the early heartbreak to the misunderstandings and insecurities to the terrifying drama to the idyllic meet the family scenes, there is just so much to love about this book. It goes well beyond my well known love of rockstars - there is just simply something for every mood and emotion. Exactly how I want every book I read to hit, but very few succeed.
The only slightly negative comment I could make is that. It makes me crave the currently out of print Glory Days series.
This story was okay I guess, didn’t love it though. Cora the roadie/tour manager needed a vacation so off she went to paradise. While there she runs into guitarist Taylor. He’s gorgeous and sexy and they have great chemistry. A couple of weeks later she discovers she’s pregnant and if she hasn’t been able reach him to tell him. If that’s not bad enough she wakes up one night and has a miscarriage and still he doesn’t answer her call. Taylor ends up on tour with Cora’s cousin and this is where they meet up again. I didn’t feel the chemistry of these two people. I kept waiting for the fight that never really happened. I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop and nada! I can’t really recommend this book and I’m going to read book two because I have the series. So I’m giving it one more shot.
I met this author at a convention this year but I had never read anything by her and I couldn't wait to get my hands on something of hers to read.
This book had a few triggers but was it so worth the crying!! I was shocked right out of the gate at the beginning not expecting that to happen, but it was an eye opener! Cora went threw so many things that a lot of people can't deal with or handle as well as she did. Things happened to Cora that I feel made her stronger and helped her become closer to some people than she would've been. I very much loved Taylor and worried for him as well but his sexy take charge of her had me wanting more!!
Alpha rock stars and independent women: need I say more??!!! This was Taylor and Cora's story. Cora is the manager for her cousins band and meets Taylor while working but it would be wring to start a relationship. They do however see each other while on vacation and things get good!!!! However, life happens and they have to go their separate ways. They meet again later when Taylor has to fill in for a member of her cousins band and things just keep getting difficult. There is a lot happening in this book and I don't want to spoil anything but if you like rock star romances and strong independent women, then you'll definitely love this one. Can't wait for the next in the series.
This is the second book in the space of a week that I've read from this author and it didn't disappoint. I love the author's writing style and the way she grips you from the first page. I really connected with both the main characters of Taylor and Cora and loved how their story played out. Although this is book 1, it is a complete story with an ending. The pace is fast, there's plenty of action and some suspense moments too. I loved the build up with Cora and all she had to go through to finally let her guard down and allow Taylor into her heart. Definitely another 5* read from this author and I can't wait to read more of her work.
I love this book, I couldn't put it down! The story held me captive until I read the last word. There were plenty of twists that kept me guessing I was on the edge of my seat wanting - no, needing to know what was going to happen next. I laughed, and I cried, and I wanted to shake some sense into a few of the characters. I really enjoy this author's writing style, I look forward to reading more in this series. I have a new favorite author!
First time I've read this authors work and first in this series.
It didn't disappoint...Holy batmans balls... what a great read.
I literally picked it up and could not stop reading this bad boy!! Loved the story of Taylor and coralline... a touch of angst, a smidge of heart break and a boat load of 'FEELS' throw in a dash or 3 of excitement and BOOM...a fantastic book!!
I'm off to read some more by this author because DAMMMMM it was good!!
I love rock stars and romances. So both together is a sure bet for me! It helps when you can tell the author knows what they are talkibg about! I love Cora and Taylor and the sexy scenes were amazibg! They were hot without being over done. Her character development was great in this book! I loved hope Cora came into her own and Taylor stayed true to himself. It was a great quick read. I appreciate the amount of work and forethought put into this novel. I can't wait to read more by Ms. Hissong!
I loved this story! There were parts that had me teary eyed but I love the connection that Taylor and Cora ended up having in the end. The development between the other band mates was enough to have me wanting more from the hot rockers of Fatal Cross. Bravo Theresa Hissong!
omg another awesome book you wrote! loved it! its about a woman who spends a night with a rock star. he hasnt called her since. now she feels like one of his one night stands. plus she is keeping a secret from him. will he ever find out? read to find out what happens. thanks for giving me a chance to read this book!
First let me say that I love Theresa and her work. I really enjoyed Fatal Desires and loved the characters. My only problem at first was all the crap Cora ended up in. I appreciate what happened to her though because it's reality. I loved Taylor's character and how he was dedicated but battling his own demons at the same time. Overall, this is a great read and I would recommend it to others.
I love a good rock romance and this one did not disappoint. This book was a page-turner that I read in one sitting. The push and pull between Taylor and Cora was interesting and fun. This storyline was believable with the real life situations in the music industry. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.
I like the premise, but the female main is really hard to deal with. She is so damn stubborn to the point of stupidity. I just wanted to slap her for half the book. Since it's a short book it wasn't too difficult to get through, but man she made me want to reach through the pages and shake her.
This story was well written. Taylor and Cora are well suited for each other. I am glad I took a chance on this book. If you like rock stars and HEA then gives this a chance.
It was heart breaking at times reading this story. But live/will always over come everything. Can she over come her heartache and forgive. Or will she not even talking to him. Read the book to find out what happens
Enjoyed this book and Looking forward to the next one. Taylor and cora's story full of regrets and emotions. Liked the take on cora's roll with in the rock band. Was glad of the HEA after a dramatic event towards the End
I’m devouring this authors rock star books one at a time. This book has everything, hot rick stars, fiesty women and undeniable chemistry. I absolutely loved it and can’t wait to read the rest of the series.
Hot, sexy, and exciting. This is a very intense and dramatic life story. Taylor gets a tad annoying with the over possessive behavior at times and I thought I may roll my eyes right out of my head from it. Ha ha. A page turning story all the way through.
This was a fast, easy read. Great romance story with a glimpse of what it’s like touring the country as a band, with a little suspense thrown in. I thoroughly enjoyed this story and recommend it.
