20 Years 2 Former Best Friends 1 Unforgettable Second Chance Love Story
Alyssa
Some say that falling is the hardest part, but they’re wrong. It was incredibly easy to fall for Joshua Brantley Jr. Or as I know him, my JJ. From the tender age of six, my feelings were unwavering. Set in stone. Unalterable. I just wish someone had warned me back then just how hard it would be to pick myself back up once I fell. Or what I’m supposed to do now, when my heart is in danger of doing it again.
Joshua
I swore I would never go back. Back to the one place that felt like home, or the girl that made it all happen. Back to AJ. But life, as I’m starting to see…has other plans. After twenty years of running, it’s time to go home and admit what I’ve known since I was dumped off across the street at 7 years old. Alyssa Jeffries is my Great Valley. She’s the one I want to run toward, not away from. And when she falls this time…I’ll be there to catch her.
Mother, Sister, Daughter, Best Friend, Avid Book Reader, Author, Overall Crazy Person.
I'm Melyssa and I was born and raised in what is now known as the mega city of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I'm the country girl stuck in the city girls body and anytime I can get away from the big city lights and settle somewhere far more slower is always such a treat.
I'm a mother to probably the four most amazing kids on the planet. (Yes that's a typical mom answer isn't it?) They have brought so much joy to my life and without them I'm not entirely sure where or what I'd be doing. They've taught me so much that I only hope I can do the same for them as they grow.
When I'm not with them I'm doing one of two things. Either curled up with my e-reader and as many books as I can handle or watching marathons of Supernatural, Sons of Anarchy or Veronica Mars.
Lastly, I'm always on the lookout for my next book boyfriend, even if I have to create him in my own stories. can't go wrong with a good book boyfriend. :)
A beautiful story about second chances. A second chance at love and a second chance at becoming the person you want to be.
Joshua Brantley was a young boy who had been bounced from one foster home to the next and had just moved across the street from Allysa Jeffries. She was determined to make a friend out of him. And he was determined to keep to himself.
She won.
She may have won more than she bargained for because these two kids had that childhood kind of love for a while. That sweet innocent love. But Josh, his life still had shades of darkness surrounding him, and when he thinks his darkness would somehow fall on his AJ, he decides to take off, abandon her, live life on the streets, because he thinks she's better off without him. He comes back again at the age of fifteen and after a painful conversation, she forgives, but never forgets.
Josh has a habit of repeating his mistakes, and he leaves again before either of them graduate high school. But this has already happened when the book begins. This is their past. The question is...can they ever have a future?
The entire store here is Josh and Alyssa trying to figure out after so many years when Josh re-enters her life upon finding out her father passed away whether they can find their way back to each other. He knows now that Alyssa wasn't just his first love. She was his forever love. It's taken Josh years to figure out who he is and who he wants to be. He knows all the things he did wrong and how he can't undo them. But he wants to start over and he wants to start over with her. But will she let him?
Allysa has never forgotten Joshua Brantley. You never forget your first love. And the agony of him standing in front of her now, after all these years? After all the pain he's caused her. And the thing is...she knows she'll probably forgive him. But she knows, too, that she'll never be able to forget all the hurt. So even with forgiveness on her heart, if she can't move past all the pain, what future do they have?
This is a heart-wrenching story where the taking and the giving of second chances will both make you and break you. Growing pains are real. There's no cheating in life. If you want to be a better person then you have face life and the people you've hurt and you have to hurt with them. The authors did that here and it plows you right in the gut. But if you can make it through to the Epilogue... they make the whole thing worth it. They hit you in the gut again, but this time, it's with happy tears. Perfect ending for this story. It could not have ended a better way.
1. Dual POV story. Both Alyssa and Joshua speak in this first-person story. 2. It’s an Adult Contemporary Romance. 3. Second Chance Romance 4. This story is the epitome of talking through your problems. Drama is minimal. 5. It’s an emotionally driven story. There is a lot of pain here, but just as much love and healing. 6. You will see both characters as kids, as teens, and then as adults. Which means, we’ve got a past and present going on in this story. 7. Hero pushes away as a kid and teen, but not in present time. He’s back with a vengeance. Heroine isn’t a doormat, but she’s also not immune to her feelings or past. 8. Steam is low, so if you’re in it for that, might want to look elsewhere. 9. No other partners in this. Mentions are there for previous “partners” but nothing is shown. 10. No cheating of any kind. 11. Triggers for pregnancy loss, mentions of childhood abuses (both physical and sexual). 12. HEA guaranteed. 13. Release Date: April 15, 2019
***More to be added if there’s anything else I feel needs to be shared***
This book follows the story of Joshua and Alyssa, who are reconnecting after a twenty year absence from each other's lives. As you read, you see the joys, heartaches, and tragedies they experienced, both together and apart over the course of their lives, from childhood to the present. I got to beta read this, but just now got around to reading the complete finished book. It's just as good to me now as it was in its raw form. Good job on a great story!
