This is an ARC review for Tracked the direct continuation of Hijacked, in the myth haven series. These books are deeply connected and intertwined. There are so many easter eggs and little pieces of the story that are expanded upon that from book one. If you enjoy books that play out more like episodes of a tv show you will like these series.
It’s contemporary fantasy with a deep storyline that’s made lighter by the banter and sarcasm of the characters.
I love getting to know these characters more. This series is very character oriented and as the readers we get to learn about each of them bit by bit.
Running, star gazing, and shape shifting with a bit of a romantic subplot this book was everything I hoped it would be.
No spoilers, but chapter 9 gave me an entirely new perspective on the goblins!
I can’t say too much without giving things away, but this is a yes for me and book 3 can’t come out soon enough.
There are several quotes that stand out to me in this book, two of my favorites are:
“You don’t get a second chance at life. You have to take care of the one you have. Live, love, laugh. Take the risk. Give it your all because, before you know it, life will slip through your fingers.”
“Life can keep giving us lemons because we’re pretty good at making lemonade.”
Following the events of last book, the cast spends Tracked on the run from the Doctor and his minions. Minions whose backstories are rather horrifying, too. It turns out the Doctor has been running some side projects... all of which continue to show just how awful he is in case readers had any doubts from book 1.
I'm impressed that the writer was able to write an engaging story all set within the same woods with the characters constantly on the run. The slower pacing allows the characters time to reveal more of their backstories and provide additional information about the world. Bucky's playful side still gets a chance to shine, and who knew he was as good a storyteller as this book shows him to be? I liked Sandy's character growth as she learns to be more sensitive about the timing of her questions. The group dynamics are fun to read, and Sandy and Bucky are well on their way to becoming a real couple. There are some really cool plot twists, too. Don't let the slower-pace and page count fool you. My attention was completely transformed to the world of Mythhaven, and I barely noticed the time passing. If you read the first book, you're definitely going to want to read this one. While it doesn't have quite the same atmosphere and worldbuilding as book 1, it has its own feel to it that works well with where the story is leading. The end left me with quesitons I can't wait to see answered in the next book(s).
With the amount of wound-tending and death, this book would be better suited for Middle Grade YA readers comfortable with mature themes more common in upper YA or New Adult books. While the book has no profanity and is no spice, the character who makes unwelcome advances on Sandy in the last book makes an appearance.
