This book bundle was not a waste of time. The writing left something to be desired, especially in the first two books. I would argue the third book (How to Get the Most from Reading Your Bible) was the most helpful, though the fifth chapter of the first book (How to Memorize the Bible Fast and Easy) was also worthwhile. The fourth book consists of Bible verses Houge believes are particularly advantages for Christians to know - he presents them first in context and with his own commentary, then on their own for easy memorization.

Houge has a particular fixation on the book of James. Not that there is anything wrong with James - it's God's word too, but it is a relatively small book and receives a disproportionate amount of his focus throughout the book. This is neither good nor bad, only worth noting.

Had a couple of good tips, but overall, was lacking. I left with some questions, like, does he watch the kids so his wife can have an uninterrupted hour of Bible study? The writing style was pretty stilted. I have memorized 2000 verses myself, and would not recommend most of the verses he recommends to someone just starting off. He leaves out some of the most useful and iconic ones for new believers, such as John 3:16, and Psalm 23.

I did not actually read this series beyond the first half of the first book. I skimmed the rest of the series to see what his tips were, and they are helpful. So much commentary on scripture was not what I was looking for, though, in a series about learning to memorize. The actual tips on memorization could have easily been condensed into a few bullet points, but the tips were good.
