Or will his secrets come between them and destroy their relationship?

After being abandoned by her parents -who left her with nannies and in a boarding school while they traveled the world- and by her boyfriend Ethan, who she planned to spend the rest of her life with, Emma Horton decides to safeguard her heart by swearing off men and focusing on her studies. But when the sexy, rich playboy Luke Greyson walks into her life, all her resolve goes down the drain.

Luke quickly professes his love for Emma, but Emma is not quite ready to do the same. Luke eventually wins her heart and their relationship grows stronger, even when Emma's ex Ethan returns to win her back. Despite Luke's love for Emma and his devotion to her, his obsessive behavior and secrets may thwart Emma's trust and ruin their relationship for good.

This book had an interesting plot but I had quite a few issues with the story. First, Luke's feelings toward Emma came off as creepy and obsessive. That made it really hard to connect with him or develop an interest in their relationship. The amount of sex scenes in this book was also over-the-top. Every time Emma asked Luke a question about his past or tried to get any other information from him, he initiated a sexual encounter. I know this is a NA book but it felt like every other sentence involved a sexual act. I also found myself wondering why Emma continued to stay with Luke when he was so needy and evasive.

Overall, this was an ok read but I honestly don't know if I'll go on to read the second book.

I received this book in exchange for a honest review.

‘Hanging by a moment’ is the debut book from Eva Walker. After reading this book I had some mixed feelings about it but at the end of it, I found the story itself very good and I will read the next book so that’s why I give this book 3,5 stars.

What you have to know about this book (but what I found out at the end of it) is that this story ends with a cliffhanger.

Emma Horton has been alone for the most part of her life. Her parents love nothing more than to travel the world and a child doesn’t go with that. So for the first few years of her life, they left Emma at home with nannies and later when she got older, Emma got send to boarding school. Luckily, she have her best friend Britt to show her love and share her family with her. And for two years Emma had the love of her boyfriend too, until he broke up with her six months ago. That hurt her very deeply and she promised herself that she would not go through that again. So from now on, she only concentrates on her studies.

But she didn’t count on the new guy that would start college at Midland Falls University. How could she know that Luke Greyson, the handsome but mysterious guy would rock her world and her feelings forever?

Emma tries to deny the attraction between Luke and herself but their feelings are too deep. There’s no stopping that, and at the end Emma gives in. She has no other choice.
The attraction is too strong but so are the secrets that Luke is hiding from her. Secrets that are very slowly coming to the surface. Secrets that Luke has no intention for Emma to find out but sometimes the past or people from that past has a way of showing up when you least expect it. You can’t hide your past forever.

The question is, how much can Emma take before she decides that enough is enough?

It took me some time to get into the story. I was a little confused at the beginning but once I got into the story, I really was into the story! I was never bored with the story, there was a lot happening. The story had me enthralled for the most part, but there were also a few things that bothered me a little bit. But what bothered me the most in the second part of the story was that there were a lot of type errors. This stopped me from being 100% enthralled into the story. I was very sorry about this because I really love the story.

But at the end of it, this is a good debut novel that I really enjoyed. Eva Walker even managed to surprise me at times with the story and I love that very much. I really look forward to reading the second book of this series. (I hope, very soon?!)

This story begins with Emma getting her heart broken again when her boyfriend Ethan, leaves to go to Switzerland to be with his family. All Emma has ever known is heartbreak...anytime she has ever loved someone, they have left her.

Then, one day in the cafeteria at her college she meets Luke...he handsome guy who has the power to shatter her heart if she lets him in. But Luke has secrets and big ones and when the whole truth comes out, can a relationship between these two really work?

So....this book reminds me of a lot of other books I have read about college students all rolled into one. There is not really anything new or original with the plot. Rich kids with mommy/daddy issues meet and fall in love, drama ensues etc. But, the story flows fairly well and the supporting characters are good.

Here's what I really had problems with...

1. Emma and Luke are very much a case of insta-love and Luke comes off as creepy obsessive with her at times. "Promise you will never leave me..." "I love you forever"...not things you usually hear from a dude you just met.
2. The sex....I can't believe I am going to say this but I am...there is WAY too much. It doesn't fit with the story really. Basically, if these two are not arguing, they are having sex.
3. The end....seriously?? I had no idea this was going to be a cliffhanger...take out some of the sex filler and this could easily be one well developed book.

My thoughts:

Quick hook or slow starter? 4 (I was interested from the start)
Character development: 3
Level of Romance between characters: 3
Passion/Heat level: 3 (there is a lot of sex in this book but as stated above, it doesn't really work well with the story.)
Angst/Heartbreak: 3(there are a lot of secrets, but the story isn't really angsty)
Cliffhanger?: Yes, a big one.

Overall, this one just left me irritated that the story is left hanging. I feel it easily could have been told as a standalone and that is always irritating to me. Will I read the next book? Maybe...depends on how long it takes to roll out.

General opinion
Lovely book! But it sucked that it had an open ending. Not a real cliffhanger, but we got left hanging. I hope that we’ll get answers ( in the next book) soon!

Characters
Emma: I a man-hater, but not the real kind, she still talks to guys, but she doesn’t want any too close, until Luke, lovely! Because I like that she is so quick to forgive him.
Ethan: He is such a stupid guy, I don’t like him at all. Not even a little bit. Normally I would respect the man who wants to fight for a girl, but this time? NOT AT ALL… He is disgusting.
Britt: She’s an awesome girl she tries to help everyone, but then again. She has been Emma’s friend forever. She is a loyal person, just like every best friend should be.
Luke: He has been kind of an asshole before he met Emma. But he straitens up and falls really hard for her. He makes a few mistakes and he screws up with Emma.

Storyline
I liked that her frozen heart got soft again after meeting Luke. It wasn’t immediately. They first kind of had this love-hate-relationship. And I liked that, they both new that it was love at first sight but then they both gave up being so dark towards each other. And then they got together. They were always cute together. But he was always a bit too concerned. And that made me think that he had done something wrong. And then he screwed up. She’ll forgive him, for sure. Because he’s actions weren’t that bad, but he won’t forgive himself that quickly. I honestly can’t wait for the next book!

Title
They were really hanging on by the moment, but I like it. It was a special name.
Ending
An open ending, we’ll get the happy ending at the ending of the next or third book!

I’m giving this book 4 stars!

*I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review from the New Adult Book Club*

Hanging by a Moment started off really great, but as the book went on I kind of found myself getting annoyed with the characters.... Emma has just had a rather bad break up with Ethan who she has been with for a loooong time. Naturally, it takes her a while to move on. Luke is the new guy at the university. These two have instant sparks at first sight. I really really liked Luke! Of course, Luke has a past with other girls and in the present girls are going to ogle him. I think that Emma was a bit too paranoid when it came to Luke because clearly the boy only had eyes for her! I also found Emma to make very bad decisions.....especially at the end. You will know what I'm talking about when you read it. Luke was definitely a great guy, but I think he was just a tad bit needy with the reassurances of their 'love'. Towards the middle/end Ethan, Emma's bad break up guy, re-enters the story. There's quite a bit of drama that follows in a domino-effect. I actually found this to be the best part. I found this story to be pretty good overall. I will be reading the next book when it comes out because I want some sense knocked into these characters! I need to know how things will hopefully end for the better because everyone deserves a happy ending.

I received this book in return for my honest review.

Luke is the usual new adult boy, sleeping around, drinking, and owns a night club.

Emma, is the studious girl with family issues, but is beautiful so is part if the 'in' crowd. Despite their differences they fall in love quickly, but then Emma's ex Ethan arrives, dum dum dum!!

Secrets un ravel and we are left with a vague open ending as to whether Emma and Luke will stay together.
And having waited a few days I realise that I don't actually care whether they did or not.

I liked the length of this book but at times I skimmed through sections as some areas were repetitive. I got fed up of Luke saying 'forever' and really wanted Emma to tell him to man up!

I may read book two.

I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I found both Emma and Luke to be likable. I liked how Luke pursued Emma despite her "I don't want to date" attitude. I understood her feelings about abandonment, but I also wanted to tell her to GTF over herself throughout the story. My issues really focused on Luke's over the top "I'll love you forever, you're MINE, etc." when they initially got together. That struck me as stalker-esque and was hard for me to overcome.

Beyond all that, I did enjoy the read. There was a LOT of sex, so that detracted from the story. I'm not a huge insta-love fan, but it wasn't so bad.

Emma has felt abandoned all her life. To keep from feeling it again, she plans on avoiding any close personal attachments. That is, until she spots Luke Greyson. He is even hotter than should be possible. They become an item, her parents visit, things go to hell in a handbasket quickly. The secrets Luke has kept, I can understand her being upset over. I don't think I could let it ruin what was there, though. Ethan, I want to drop-kick by the end of this story. I so need to read the next book...like soon!
