Exactly who are the Ancestors? This book discusses the role and function of the Ancestors in our everyday lives while detailing the proper way to propitiate them. Included are Offerings, Prayers and Reverence as well as the procedure for establishing the ancestor altar
As a Babalawo (Wanaldo) in the Lukumi tradition (Che Che Rama,I made my IFA in La Habana) I was appalled at this book. Contrary to this author's opinion, race has zero place or function in our religion and furthermore has nothing to do with Orisha worship. Not only will Caucasians be insulted by this book, but mulattoes too. This is a classic example of reverse racism that seems to be exclusively limited in coming from African Americans. While racism is a part of all cultures in the world, it does not enter our religion in Cuba, Brazil nor Africa, as Don King says " Only in America".
Unlike the author's claims, and the Haplogroup map proves, we all have the blood of the Yoruba in our veins. This "Your behind is not black enough" attitude is not only insulting, it is incorrect in the proportioning of ancestors. To insist (as this book does) that only 100% blacks proportion their ancestors in the prescribed method, (the author did get the method correct) is completely absurd and an insult to the spirit of IFA. I am disappointed that the publisher who publishes many fine books (such as Ogbe: The Odus of Ogbe) saw fit to publish this in the name of Orunmila.
Please excuse my visceral reaction to this book, but racism has no place in our religion be it traditional or reverse. This mentality is a cancer that severely stunts the growth of our religion. Still, I am glad I purchased this book (that I cannot recommend) to see how the cancer is spreading and realize how Orisha worship is being manipulated much as the terrorists manipulate Islam. This type of mentality is that of an IFA terrorist.
