Brightly illustrated picture book for four to eight year olds that will surely be a hit with children who love dinosaurs and/or monsters. Dinosaur asks Monster to go for a walk, but Monster is determined to replace the worn out rug in his cave. Once Monster succeeds in paying for his choice, and the pair of friends begin walking home, a magical Fairy appears with a startling discovery. Turns out the new rug is actually a magic carpet. The adventure begins when the two friends decide to take it for a ride. Who will they meet and what challenges will need to be met?

The book ends rather abruptly, leaving the reader expecting more. Text is large and easy to read, but younger readers may need some explanation from the adult reader. Recommended as a bedtime story or teacher read aloud, especially for ages four through six.

I finally got around to reading this one with my daughter yesterday morning in bed before we went downstairs to start the day and she thought it was great!

She liked the images and is a massive fan of dinosaurs and monsters with them being amongst the words she could say properly and I think that really helped with her enjoyment.

The story was easy to read and follow and it had a nice flow to it. It is 3.5 stars from us for this one, rounded up to 4 stars for Goodreads and Amazon.

Blue Dinosaur and one-eyed purple Monster enjoy a magic carpet ride in this story that almost begs small children to act it out with their toys. The story ends rather abruptly with Bird “not at all amused that his challenge had back fired on him.” But small readers will be happily amused and will probably want ice cream.

My only complaint is that the book seems rather short. I’d have liked a longer story. But kids will create their own continuing tales with their own toys, and there’s always the link to thesparklypicturebookcompany at the end where readers can get another book for free.

Disclosure: I found it on a deal.

Dinosaur and Monster and The Magic Carpet (Dinosaur and Monster stories Book 1) by Suzanne Pollen is the modern day Shakespeare. This story is so fantastically written I don't even know where to begin. Our story begins when we meet our two main protagonists, Dinosaur and Monster. Monster is having a dilemma in which he has a hole in his carpet and must buy one, while Dinosaur wants to play ball! The story progresses to the duo going to the carpet store and accidentally buying a magic carpet. This is shown through pretty and colorful visuals, allowing readers of all ages to picture Monster and Dinosaur. The character designs are varied and beautiful. Monster is shorter and more plump, while Dinosaur is taller and skinnier. This creates a FOIL pair, which is further shown on the first page where Monster is shown to be easily upset and pessimistic while Dinosaur always remains calm and optimistic even in poor situations, such as a hole in the rug. The two have great chemistry together, and Dinosaur is able to cheer up Monster from his grumpy mood. Some more characterization is given once the duo leave the carpet store and we learn that Monster does not enjoy spending money. This is a small and unimportant detail, but it helps build the character more and makes him more realistic. The duo stop for a lemonade break, and Fairy pops by to say "hello." Fairy points out that it's a magic carpet, and the two decide to fly. In a beautiful moment of friendship and companionship, the two nervously hold hands as they board the carpet. This shows the fearful side of the duo, showing that the characters are not perfect and have moments of relatable fear. This allows the children reading to relate to the characters, and therefore enjoy the story even more. Together, the duo are comforted and slowly calm down and get over their fear. The two proceed to, in a moment of blind carelessness, almost fly into Bird! The trio decide to have a friendly competition; a race to the ice-cream truck! The winner buys everyone ice cream! This scene will keep readers on the edge of their seat; who will win? Will Bird be faster? Or will the magic carpet prevail? You'll just have to read to find out, or read further for spoilers.

As much as I enjoyed this story, the conclusion was such a let-down! The story ended abruptly; the competition ended and so did the story. However, on the final page, we do get some more personality from Monster. After winning the competition, Monster begins to brag about how rare his carpet is when Bird expresses interest in owning one for himself. This is quite rude, however I'm sure all readers can relate to small bragging after being a winner. However, aside from this, the ending is really anti-climactic. Monster and Dinosaur win the race, Bird buys them ice cream, and then it's over. Nothing else happens, beyond a couple lines of dialog. This is quite disappointing, and I really wish the ending was better.

I highly recommend this story to everybody on the planet. It's such a good read that words cannot express how good it was. Please read this. It's my new favorite book.

This was a really fun story, with bright, colourful illustrations and a simple and yet inviting plot. I've only given it three stars as I believe the text could be improved with some careful editing. Despite this, I'm sure young kids will enjoy it, especially if they are fans of fantasy tales.

Such a cute children's book... especially since almost all kids I come in contact with love monsters and dinosaurs (as long as they are not overly scary)

Part of my children's book library building I do every year lol

I'm glad it was free.

The words are too big for most kids to recognize and the story just abruptly ended. It seemed to have no plot other then they buy a rug and it's magic. I was a bit disappointed with this book.

Summary:
Dinosaur is in need of a new rug. His rug has a whole in it. On the way to the store, he runs into his friend Monster. Monster agrees to accompany Dinosaur to the store. After purchasing a rug, Dinosaur and Monster realize it is not an ordinary rug. It is a magic carpet! Dinosaur and Monster test out the carpet and meet some new friends along the way!

Activity: Life inspired board game
You can change the board game Life to include places where Dinosaur and Monster visit on their magic carpet ride! The car is now the carpet and you can easily change the game by including cards- for certain spots on the board- that tie in the story.
For example, the path that goes to college could become the path to the carpet store. Instead of picking a career, students can pick their carpet (car piece).

Dinosaur and Monster and The Magic Carpet (Dinosaur and Monster stories Book 1)
Colorful children's book. Was not able to increase the font size on the tablet and it's a bit difficult to read the font style.
This is about Monster and Dino wants to play but Monster needs to go buy a new rug.
He didn't like spending money but he found one to buy and they head back home.
While resting something magical happens....cute story.

Dinosaur wanted to play ball and monster wanted a new rug. They had a great day of shopping and stopped for a lemonade. A fairy came by and told them she thought it was a magic flying carpet. Was it? Where would They go?
This is a brite, cheery, and easy to read book for small tikes. The easy words and bright colors make the book great for the beginning readers.
I found this book on a website for free for an honest review.

A likable story with two unlike characters. A dinosaur and a monster. What a pair! This story is a great read for beginning readers with an imagination. Some little readers may struggle with some of the sentence structure, but it introduces new vocabulary on each page. It is a good book for teaching retelling and for use of a writing prompt…What would you do with a magic flying carpet?

Professional looking illustrations with a short story.

This was fairly short reading. The book contains high quality images. I could not highlight the text to make notes; it didn't appear to stretch or size up. However, the text was clear on the eye. I thought the story could have slowed down in preparation for its end.

Okay

I thoroughly enjoy reading these type of children books, for they always teach my children an important life lesson in a simple and easy way that they can understand. It's important for children today to have morals, and the only way that they will obtain them is if they are taught from a young age.

Fun story

My kids liked this story. I liked that it has some good vocabulary words. My only real complaint is that it desperately needs a proofreader to add punctuation. Seriously, no one should be allowed to publish a children's book with grammar/punctuation mistakes. It's only going to confuse kids as they begin learning to read and write.

Cute read

This was a cute little story about two friends who have fun with their new magic carpet. Some of the dialog in the beginning seemed a bit off on wording but it works itaelf out.
The colors are bright and bold my son liked the pictures a lot. The race with bird was fun as well. I just thought it ended kinda of odd. Butt all in all this was a very cute read

What a Cute Mashup!

In this story, we have a monster, a dinosaur, and a magic carpet all together at the same time! My grandson and I were sure that this was going to make a terrific bedtime story and we were not at all disappointed. Its well-written, perfect for kids and enjoyable for an adult to read to them at bedtime. The illustrations are cute too!

This book was very cute ane my kid loved it. The illustrations were beautiful and eye catching. Only thing stopping me from leaving a 5 star review are all the grammar and punctuation mistakes.

It’s a story my nearly 5 year old liked it

I didn’t enjoy reading this story, as things just happen and there is no narrative flow at all. It’s like the art came first and the photoshopping and writing a distant third.

Adorable

My daughter really enjoyed this short and sweet story! Very nice, bright illustrations. I personally wish in the beginning the picture showed the monster grumpy to match the story.

Poorly written

This book was so weird and poorly written. The plot didn’t flow at all and the content was not appealing. What kid wants to read about shopping for a rug!?

Kind of big words for a children's book. So not very good. Odd word flow as well. Read something else.

Odd ending

Was a bit confusing to the little boy I read this to. The ending was rather blunt and felt unfinished.
