For temporarily-relocated-from-Dallas hotshot defense attorney Lisa Mendoza, a year working for the public defender's office in tiny Angel Eye, Texas, was just a slight detour off the path she'd mapped out for her life. Then she ran smack-dab into handsome Quinn Sutton--and the map started looking more and more muddy. For despite her misgivings about getting involved with the town sheriff, she found him infuriatingly irresistible....
And what of said Sheriff Quinn? He, too, felt the pull of attraction--and the strings of hesitation. Because once before, he'd known the pain of falling fast for a woman who had made it clear she'd follow her head and not her heart. Only this time, with Lisa, he wondered if his heart might follow, as well....

Decent book. The hero Quinn is the Sheriff & has been investigating some strange things going on in a house when the heroine a public defender comes up accusing him of being a racist bully when he is not.
The heroine is part Latino but never grew up with that heritage so she got interested in it in college & now is working in a small town for a year as part of her law school agreement.
The hero too worked in a big town but came back home, disillusioned in a way after the woman he loved chose working with a criminal boss over him & the crimes he saw got to him.
The book is fairly average, the hero chases her, she gives in, dithers, they both want different things, she is a city girl & wants to live in one and then they are at opposites sides in a case but well suddenly with one life threatening moment both are willing to compromise.
Gotta love a red-headed heart-throb! Our hero Quinn is a small Texas town sheriff and he's quite smitten with the new public defender. The first time Lisa meets Quinn she's takes his breath away and she waves her finger in his face while she reads him the riot act. The back story has just the right amount of intrigue to add tension, but doesn't in any way detract from the strong feelings developing between Quinn and Lisa. I thoroughly enjoyed this book!
This was quite average. Our hero, Sheriff Quin Sutton is investigating some strange activities in his peaceful little town until he drags a poor kid in for questioning and in barges our heroine, Lisa Mendoza, a Latino defense lawyer who knows 0 Spanish (whereas our hero, even tho Anglo, can).
It's a typical instant attraction thing between them, the hero chases her and she tries to hold out against him for as long as she can, but that doesn't last long.
I liked Quinn, his past hurt and pain was understandable, and his charm and impish character was easy to like but him expecting the girl to give up her career for him while not thinking that maybe he should try it too was a bit eye rolling but he came around in the end so no complaints.
Lisa was OK as well, although I felt she jumped to conclusions and made assumptions really fast without thinking much. But I liked that she stood up for what she believed in was right.
A little side mystery to that and the usual ending.
One a side note, these Sutton brothers do love to kiss a woman on the first or second meeting, just right off the bat.
This was better than I had anticipated. I loved the fact that the angry Latina defense lawyer doesn't speak Spanish, but the Anglo sheriff does. The romance was extremely predictable, but the motif of a young man trying to make his way and getting in over his head was endearing.
