Maria Menounos is a Greek-American actress, journalist, and television presenter known in America for her appearances as a correspondent for Today and Access Hollywood, and abroad for co-hosting the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 in Athens, Greece.
The EveryGirl's Guide to Cooking does something very right. It describes the recipes, gives a lot of photographic references and adds in tips about substitution or how to get the best out of your time and ingredients.
With that being said it is also a huge "I love Me" book dedicated to maria Menounos herself. I guess I should have expected this, but she starts out showing her team and then proceeds to talk more about herself than about the actual recipes.... For this I can only award it a high of 3 stars.
If I could rip out half of the self brag book and leave the recipes, It would easily be a 4.5
The Good: The ingredients used in the book and affordable, and you can find most of them in your kitchen pantry. There are some very nice pictures of the recipe so you can visualize what you're making.
The Bad: Maria suggests that these recipes can be used towards a weight loss goal, but she neglects to include nutritional information. If you're on a calorie limited diet, then how do you know what your intake should be? That was weird to me. Also it was a little too "I love myself" at times, but what can you really expect?
Overall, it's not a terrible cookbook but kind of the typical celebrity cookbook.
Menounos is very upbeat and friendly- she’s really easy to relate to. The book is easy to follow and filled with personal anecdotes and family stories.
When she goes Greek, she’s at her strongest. It bothered me that she championed health and suggested the book be used for weight loss when she didn’t include any nutritional information.
I enjoyed this book a lot. It's filled with great recipes that are made with items you can actually get at a regular grocery store! I'm not diabetic or gluten free but many of the recipes can be adapted for either and they're marked as such. I think this cookbook would be fun for someone who is simply trying to eat healthier, like me, or is just looking for some fun easy healthy cooking.
Being a fan of Maria Menounos, it was difficult to review this book without being completely bias. However, I genuinely enjoyed the recipes that I tried so far and so did my mother (yay!). They were very easy to follow and quick to prepare. All of the ingredients used are listed in alphabetical order at the end of the book, making it simple to find any recipe based on whatever food I have on hand. I know that there are a few that I will never try for myself such as anything with onions or bell peppers as the main ingredient just because I don’t particularly enjoy eating them. For the rest, I am looking forward to trying them.
Love this collection of easy to make, healthy recipes. I've made about half of the recipes so far and am working through until hopefully one day, finish them all.
One thing I appreciate is that the spices, ingredients are simple and are the same for many of the recipes. This makes it easy to remember what to have on hand to make a lot of these recipes.
There are also several more time consuming recipes that are real keepers such as spaghetti and meatballs. Love, love, love this one especially!!
This book has finally made me comfortable with cooking at home. I get how you can swap, leave out ingredients if needed; or figure something out with what I have on hand.
I am addicted to celebrity cookbooks, and Maria Menounos did not disappoint! Tons of photos, lots of personal stories and tips, and a heartwarming dedication to her mom. The recipes are a little simplistic at times, but they're flavor combinations I hadn't thought of and it's nice to browse lots of easy ideas in one place. Love the Greek influence from her family, too. A decent cookbook for novices!
I don't think that Menounos is "every girl" because she is rich and famous. However, these recipes are simple and use common pantry ingredients. She does a lot of self promotion in the book but that makes me want to check out her other books.
This book is really awesome! I loved so much cooking and it was my hobby. But of course, I wanted to explore more of the recipes that this book could offer. This book will surely a great help to me and to my family as well.
