孤愁〈サウダーデ〉

「孤愁（サウダーデ）」とは、「愛するものの不在により引き起こされる、胸のうずくような思いや懐かしさ」のこと。軍人で、外交官で、商人で、詩人でもあったモラエスは、在日ポルトガル領事もつとめた。日本人のおよねと結婚、およね亡き後は妻の故郷である徳島に住み、その生涯を終えた。あまり知られていないが、モラエスの遺した詳細な日記や日本を題材にした作品が、日本の素晴らしさ、日本人の美徳を世界に知らしめ、「もう一人の小泉八雲」といわれている。

孤愁（Saudade)was firstly piblished serially by 新田次郎 30 years ago. But it had not ended because of his sudden death. The son of 新田次郎　藤原正彦 continute to the end. The first half was by 新田次郎、and the second half was by 藤原正彦 then. A main character Moraes was a real person who was a Portuguese general consul to Japan. He was married Japanese woman. After she had passed away Moraes resigned diplomat and renounced his all titles which Portguese government gave him. He selected to live alone in Japan the rest of his life with embracing 孤愁　and memory of his wife. Besides being diplomat Moraes was a famous essayist in Portugal in this way he bound to the society. But he prefered live alone. I sympathize his mentality because Japanese have had the tradition 隠遁（seclusion). I am wandering whether his tendency was due to Japanese mentality or Portuguese mentality.
