Bury Me

Rate this book
I hear screams in my head. I see blood on my hands. When I look in the mirror I see a stranger. How is it that I can remember bits and pieces of my life, but nothing of any importance and nothing that makes any sense? Everything is twisted and nothing is right. I’m choking with every breath I take, suffocating on the unknown. Two days ago, everything changed. Two days ago, the people I should trust the most became strangers in my convoluted head. The dreams I have can’t be real. The fleeting memories that whisper through my mind are scary and wrong…they have to be. If they aren’t, I have something much worse to fear than my fractured mind. I need to find out the truth, even if it destroys me. I've been told my name is Ravenna Duskin. I’m eighteen years old and I live in a prison…

This was my second book by this author and while it was very different from the first one I really enjoyed it. Since I could tell reading the blurb that this book it will be a mindfuck I really had to read it since I love this kind of books. A psychological thriller, “Bury Me” will made you question everything you read, it will mess with your head, it will keep at the edge of your seat.

“Bury Me” tells the twisted story of Ravenna Duskin, a 18 years old girl who wakes up with no memory of who she is or what happened with her. Why does she has all the scratches on her body? Why she doesn’t remember her mother and her father? And why she has so many disturbing thoughts?

description

Ravenna lives in a closed down prison. She starts to have questions about everything her parents tell her and about who she is. She starts to remember some things, so eventually she figures out that everyone has secrets, that they keep some important things from her. But why?

“Nothing will ever be the same again. Nothing will ever be good again. It will all be bad.
Bad.
Bad.
Bad.”

This was interesting, captivating read that I really couldn’t put it down. I really wished it was longer. However, even if it was on the short side, everything was done really well, from the Ravenna's flashbacks to the intriguing, flawless writing. If you want a sweet romance you will not find it here. “Bury Me” was a dark, twisted and even a little creepy read. I can’t say I liked Ravenna's character and if you decide to read this book you will figure out why, but without a doubt she’s a fascinating, complex, unique character. With all the twists and turns the story will keep you guessing until the end. I guarantee!

Overall a fantastic read and if you want something dark and twisted I highly recommend this one!

What. The. Hell. Just. Happened?????

So I'm going to have to curse here so just beware.

This book was a total and complete mindfuck and I mean that in the best way possible.

I didn't even know Tara had this in her and I have read every single one of her books. This book is different, it's dark and it is sure as hell not romantic. But it's AMAZING.

This is one of the most unique story lines I have every read and the best part- you literally have to wait til the very end to find out what happened!!!!

So here's what's going to happen. You're going to buy this book. Then you'll start reading and immediately be like "what's going on???"
Then you'll keep reading and probably take a Xanax. Keep the bottle close by.
You'll start to form a theory. You will be wrong.
And then you'll just keep reading and continually asking yourself "what the hell is happening here???? I need answers damnit!!"
Then you'll reach the last chapter and you'll be like omg- what??????
Then you'll read the epilogue and your head will explode and you'll start mapping out the quickest route to Tara's house. And when you get there, you won't know if you should hug her for being a genius, or strangle her for fucking with your head.

This book is brilliant. Read it.

Tara Sivec brought the disturbing and twisted in this novel and I’m in awe that she wrote this one. The writing was very strong and the plot was pretty big screen worthy. The story keeps a reader guessing as our heroine wakes up with shattered memories and oh yeah she lives in a closed down prison! Seriously, her parents run tours and they have living quarters upstairs it was super creepy.

description

The story is set in 1965 as Ravenna’s memories slowly come together and the possibility that she may not be the sweet teen girl her parents have been suggesting is very possible. The truth was unraveled in an exciting and creepy manor. There is a love interest, questionable paternity, abuse, and a ton of secrets.

”Secrets never stay hidden no matter how deep you bury them. Mistakes will always come back to haunt you and get their revenge.”

Overall, this was a well written creepy tale that may not sit amongst my favorites by this author but is well worth the read and had me guessing the full picture till the very end.

”Evil always remembers the truth.”

“My name is Ravenna Duskin. I’m eighteen years old, I live in a prison, and I will find out the truth, even if it destroys everyone around me.”

Ravenna is eighteen and she lives in a prison (a historical building. She and her parents work and live there for years). She woke up from a two-day coma and she couldn’t remember much of her life. She woke up covered in bruises and scratches. Her parents told her who she is, what she likes and about her school and friends. But the thing is they are not similar to what’s in her mind! She hates everything her parents said and her mind is chaotic!

"A good girl doesn’t think of harming her mother. A good girl doesn’t want to rip the perfectly constructed braid from her head and scream at the reflection in the mirror."

Let’s begin this way: Loved the writing and story line. The secrets and mystery were really great. albeit I guessed it at the middle of the book but it was that good that I still doubted my guess. It was really a page-turner and kept me on the edge of my seat. Such a dark thriller. I even couldn’t stop reading it!

“My name is Ravenna Duskin. I’m eighteen years old, I live in a prison, and these secrets and lies will not kill me; they will only make me stronger.”

So now you're wondering why 2 stars? Like always the ending made a 4-4.5 star read to a 2 star read! It really disappointed me! There is no justice in this book! Honestly was, but not completely! I can’t tolerate Oh no, it’s not acceptable to me! But I think it was just me because my friends all liked this book! Told in Ravenna’s POV, 1st person. It’s a standalone novel and it’s a quick read. Hope you enjoy it!

"My name is Ravenna Duskin. I'm eighteen years old, I life in a prison, and..."

She woke up with no memory. They told her who she was, what she liked, and how she should act. But it doesn't feel right. She doesn't feel like this girl everyone is telling her she's supposed to be. So who is she?

This was my first book by this author and I really had no idea what to expect going into it, but I can honestly say I was not expecting this. Bury Me was a very different type of book than I'm used to but from the first page I was completely enthralled by Ravenna and couldn't wait to know more about her. There was such a mystery surrounding her that I couldn't put the book down! I started this story and instantly my main focus left reality and was solely on worrying about who it was in those woods with Ravenna.

This is a dark tale that will have you on the edge of your seat and questioning your own sanity. I loved that Tara Sivec was able to create such an interesting character that had me hating her, liking her, and even at parts, understanding her. Which if you have read this book you understand how batshit crazy that is. Ravenna was certainly a unique character and I think she's the type of heroine that will have you intrigued, maybe a little angry, but definitely captivated.

Overall, I absolutely enjoyed this book. It wasn't anything like I usually read but that was the great thing about it. The suspense was very well done, even though I had guessed the major plot twists early on, and it had me going a little bit crazy along with Ravenna.

It's quiet possible I'm still in shock and certainly not qualified to rate or review this book!

But I have to I'm dying to say this - Tara Sivec, YOU OFFICIALLY. BLEW. MY. MIND!!!

***********************************************

***4.5 prison stars***

Two reasons I picked up this book!
#1- Holy hell that blurb is already giving me the creeps *shudders*
#2- What in the world….Tara Sivec and dark book??!!!

I kid you not, she writes one hell of dark, disturbing psychological thriller!!!!

description

Ravenna Duskin wakes up with no memory of her previous life, she was found bleeding in the woods after being chased by a faceless shadow. However, she was certain that, she was meant to die that stormy night. Since the time she woke up, her family keeps telling her things about her life which she couldn’t relate to, there is this constant battle with herself either to believe her parents and friends who says she was a “proper lady” or the voices she keeps hearing that says she’s a “bad bad girl”. As time passes, she knows things are not how they look like and everything surrounding her is a LIE and that’s when she starts believing in her instincts. In order to find the truth she has to go to the deepest, darkest depth of her fractured mind to unravel the mystery behind her accident and truth about those disturbing voices she keeps hearing.

This story is engrossing right from the beginning, there are so many twists and turns all along and gives a haunted experience. If I’ve to be honest, I will say it had too many monologues and repetitive thoughts, the mystery keeps playing in a loop and at some point I was frustrated when it was not going anywhere. But that climax was worth waiting, every voice, every riddles, every loops makes so much sense at this point. You will be both amazed and shocked to see how well the author played us.

The best part of the book was the epilogue, it was E.P.I.C!! It took lot of time (during which I was-pacing around, texting my book buddies about the heart palpitation I just endured and re-reading that part) for me to realize what just hit me!!

Let me tell you this, MY MIND WAS THOROUGHLY FUCKED!!!
HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!!

TITLE: Bury Me
AUTHOR: Tara Sivec
GENRE: Contemporary Romance
RELEASE DATE: August 11th 2015

MY RATING: 4 STARS!!

This will be the first time I will be reading anything of this authors, the cover and synopsis intrigue me..Kind of don't know what to expect because neither gives much away..Only thing that's clear are the high ratings..

*bangs head on desk* 0800 therapy I have no idea what the freaking heck I just read..*goes off to buy a bottle of wine* This book did my head in, like I seriously need therapy after reading this because one minute I thought I had a grasp on the story then the next minute I'm like HUH did I read that right and I was doing this often when reading this..And then when I finished it I'm still really unsure what I've just spent the last few hours of reading..If asked I really couldn't tell you..

Bury Me: Starts off in the summer of 1965, she's running, trying to escape something, someone through the woods at night on a rainy night..Someone, something in hot pursuit..

I have to keep going. If I’m caught, I’m dead.

Just when you think she's going to get away

Something heavy and solid crashes against my skull and I feel myself falling. Darkness descends over me.

Then it pretty much after that cliffy above jumps into Chapter One...If I'm sitting here scratching my head holding my iPad tightly to stop myself throwing it I'm going to be in for one confusing read, GAH..

Strange as it sounds, my family lives in a prison. The Gallow’s Hill State Penitentiary, built in 1886, is where my family has lived since my father was hired as the warden over twenty years ago.

Which was shut down and is currently open for tours..

Who else other than me thought oh f*ck that, I couldn't think of anything else more morbid.NO THANKS!!

I don’t feel like a normal person. I don’t feel like the girl everyone keeps telling me I am.

I feel like I'm the heroine in this book trying to piece together the jigsaw puzzle of this story..

Secrets never stay hidden no matter how deep you bury them. Mistakes will always come back to haunt you and get their revenge.

I adore stories that keep me guessing until the end. I LOVE twists and turns, and I've even been known to enjoy the dark side of thrillers. BURY ME has all of that and more. I can honestly say, I read this awesome story in one day. Everything else had to wait. Tara had me questioning each character and even the story line until the final sentence. And oh! The Epilogue is classic! This stand alone thriller left me with the biggest smile on my face! It was a perfect ending!
WARNING: if you're looking for a fun, light Tara Sivec read, go to her other selection of AMAZING books (Because those are great too). This one is different...in a FANTASTIC way!!
I give Bury Me 5 shiny stars!!!

5 Sucking My Thumb In The Corner Stars

I used to be scared of Tara Sivec because she was scary good. Scary talented. Scary amazing in multiple genres. Now I'm just scared of her.

I don't even know where to start on this review. Let's start with what we know about the story.....

.......well that was short. Let's start somewhere else.

Ravenna has a headache. She doesn't remember how she got it or the scratches on her arm. She knows her mother and father. But she knows she doesn't know them. Or like them. She has thoughts she doesn't know what to do with. It's like there are memories trying to break through the plastic wrap that is stretched tight over her past. She sees shadows of them. Feels where the real her is coming through. But is that something to fear or embrace?

Nothing will ever be the same again. Nothing will ever be good again. It will all be bad.
Bad.
Bad.
Bad.

How can Ravenna know who to trust when her memories fail her and her instincts are counter intuitive to what she thinks she should be feeling? Does she really want to know who she is? Can she live not knowing? Can she live with herself if she does know?

Secrets never stay hidden no matter how deep you bury them. Mistakes will always come back to haunt you and get their revenge.

And her family? They are no help. In fact, they seem to block her efforts to unbury those secrets. Can she be who her parents say she is? Does she want to be that person?

I'm not afraid....I'm pissed.

And now we should all be afraid.

Ms Sivec has used her considerable talent to weave a tale that overlaps, intertwines, and dips. Dips into dark places that you cannot help but follow. Don't expect silly Tshirts or lighthouses here. This one is dark, twisted and will make you love her all the more. Or be afraid of her.

I can't decide on either a 3.5 or 3.75 Star Rating right now.

The story was good and unique, but I had a hard time connecting with any of the characters.

I got pissed off at the end and thought that the book wrapped up too quickly while the rest of the book went slow in parts.

Now, please don't hate me because I absolutely LOVE Ms Sivec's other series, and it may have been that I just wasn't in the mood to read a psychological thriller.

Please don't use this as a basis on whether or not to read this book.

Although this is a good book, with a great story line and plot, it was seriously dark and twisted. I was not expecting that at all! The characters were also fantastic and this author is talented for sure, but it was all a little too evil for me and I had a hard time with the devious thoughts. I think this is more for young fans of Stephen King, which I am not, but if horror is more your genre, then this one might be for you.

UMMM . . . WHAT DID I JUST READ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is no way this was brought to us by the same mind that wrote Seduction and Snacks, Burned and Ficher’s Light! Tara has been hiding this dark and twisted soul deep within and I honestly fear for the well being of her husband and children!

Two days ago something happened and now Ravenna Duskin is on the search for her memories and to find out who she really is.

Really that is all you should know before going into this intriguing psychological thriller. I came up with a new theory and had new questions with every clue we discovered and while I might not ever sleep the same at night I can hope that many of you will join me on this crazy journey and delve into the twisted mind that Tara has been hiding behind her fun personality and happier books.

So please, buy the book, read the book then I beg you message me because I need to talk to someone about this crazy, astonishingly intricate and exciting book. Also I might need you to hold me as I rock back and forth mumbling . . . fair warning!

"My name is Ravenna Duskin.I'm eighteen years old and I live in a prison".

Ravenna Duskin wakes up with no memory of who she is or what happened to her.All she knows is that she has a killer headache and scratches on her body after being found in the woods. From what her parents have told her, she's eighteen years old, lives in a prison and she is the ultimate good girl. But that doesn't make sense to her not when she's having flasbacks of different things and feeling like something is wrong. So she sets out to find the truth and it is one crazy messed up journey let me tell you.

"I deserved a good life,I deserved to be loved, and it's not fair that the only thing I ever got was pain".

I really liked how this story flowed and I had no problem with this author's writing style. From the flasbacks to the mystery and everything else, was done well.Ravenna was a very complex character and I truly felt for her because of what she went through and I loved her drive and her stubborness.

Even though I knew this was a psycological thriller, I was suprised at the lack of romance.Maybe its just me but I really thought that there was going to be more in that department so I was dissapointed in that aspect.I also figured out the plot line before but I was really hoping that I was wrong.Sadly I wasn't and that element of suprise that all the readers got didn't happen for me.I hate my brain sometimes because I really wanted to be shocked.I will say that for a moment I thought I was wrong and when it was time for all to be revealed? I kid you not: I went and turned on my night light because I was NOT going to read that creepy as hell scene with the light out.HELL NO.

So what did I learn from this? People are not what they seem and no matter what you do or what you did?Secrets always comes out reguardless if you want them to or not.

4.5 WTF STARS

Confession: I had no idea what this book was about when I dove in. It had Tara's name attached to it, so that was good enough for me. Not only do I think she's a great author, I think she's an amazing person, and one I'm proud to know.

Even if I happen to be a little afraid of her right now.

I'll skip the "what it's about" and get right to the feels I had while reading. Because holy F*CK, the feels! I went from confused to intrigued to creeped out. At one point, I literally had to put the book down on my lap and look around the room to collect myself; I needed the reassurance that I was, in fact, reading fiction. My heart was beating so freaking fast that I was legitimately concerned about my health. I sh*t you not.

This book will draw you in, toss a million questions your way, and then rip you through a meat grinder. It will keep you guessing as you tear through the pages, even though the little voice in your head is telling you that maybe you really don't want to know the answers after all.

I didn't want to know. I NEEDED to know.

This book was such a rush, such an amazing ride. I'm so glad I picked it up. I haven't read suspense in a very long time, and I'm happy that Tara is the person who sucked me back in. I was so impressed with her writing, and the fact that she ventured into a completely different genre from the romcom I usually read from her. Let me tell you-- she pulls both off equally well.

Take a quick departure from the romance world and grab this one. I promise-- after you're done cursing me out, you'll thank me for it.

4.5 stars!! I didn't know what I felt at the end of this one...I was just...kinda...numb! Where has this funny author gone? Where was the romantic Tara? She has either been watching too many crime shows or James Sivec needs to seriously watch his back!

It was palpable, it was gritty, it was suspenseful and it was a total mind fuck so Tara did what she set out to do and the writing was fantastic. I did see the twist coming though and for that I gave it a 4.5. (Full review to come)

Tara Sivec has always been a fabulous writer, but this book....THIS BOOK.....Tara has weaved a psychological thriller unlike anything I've ever read! I literally read this entire story in one day, ignoring my piles of laundry and sink full of dishes. It's that fantastic!!!! Get ready for a roller coaster ride--- and one you will not soon forget!!

4.5 Stars!!!

A dark and twisted psychological mindf*** read at its finest!

This book will be fully enjoyed if you dive in blindly like I did. So I'll just keep my review short and vague.

The story left me puzzled at first as Ravenna woke up with no memory of who she is. Snippets of memories she remembered every now and then doesn't help either. In fact, it only leaves me to more questions with no answers. Which to be honest is quite frustrating.

I can't help but bite my fingers as I wait for the truth to be revealed near the end. And I must say that Ms. Sivec completely blew my mind off as the secrets were revealed. Okay, TBH I saw it coming once I got to the scene but still, everything was perfectly laid out that guessing what the suspense is didn't bothered me as it usually did since I still needed the explanation behind everything. And Ms. Sivec done it perfectly except for a part which is quite unbelievable.

After reading this, I can't help but visualize this on the big screen.

Tara truly killed it with this one! Woman, you are a genius. I was so lost and confused I didn't know what was up, what was down. I can tell you this... she HAS to write more stories like this!!! Dark, twisty, psychological goodness.

I flove a good psychological as much as the next gal, but she hit this one totally outta the ballpark.

I don't want to give anything away but, Ravenna an 18 year old wakes up from a head injury and everything is not what it seems.

It's a crazy ride and you'll love every minute of it

Where do I even start with this one? It’s not that I have a lot to complain about, the truth is I was so consumed by how much I disliked the characters and how the book is written that I didn’t pay attention to other things like the plot, or the mystery or even the pace. I just couldn’t believe that this author would take a premise so promising and turn it into a shit storm. So let’s not delay the inevitable and let’s tackle the things that made me go: Hell to the nope, this book doesn’t deserve more than one star. Honestly, I was going with two stars and then I read the epilogue and I was like

description

So one star it is.

1/ The characters are one dimensional, overwritten and unlikable. This book is a thriller and if the author can’t make me give a shit about her characters then the whole thing won’t work out for me. I didn’t feel anything for them, not for a second. They annoyed me and frustrated me and make me want to claw my eyes out. And that main character, she is the worst. She was written like a dark and twisted character and yes she was a nasty little shit and yet she felt like she was comically villain. She was written in a way that made me envision her rubbing her hands calking with evil laughter

description

She was ridiculous in her darkness. In every single page, we are reminded over and over again that she’s evil, that she wants to hurts people and she likes it when people are hurting. It was so repetitive and I was over it but it kept getting mentioned over and over again. It’s like the author didn’t trust her reader to figure out that something is seriously wrong with the main character so she decided to shove a reminder down our throats every single page.

I don’t know what to say about the other characters aside that they were useless like 90% of the book. They were just there doing nothing spewing nonsense every chance they got and they weren’t even that compelling. It’s like their presence added something to the story or n element that made it feel more suspenseful. It’s not like the vague way they were acting made it impossible for me to figure out what actually went down because I did.

Like I said comically written main character and useless secondary ones that left me feeling cheated because if it wasn’t for the cast of characters, I could’ve enjoyed the book but they killed that chance from the get go

2/ The way the book was written made me feel like I’m reading a book written by an author who thinks readers are stupid. Everything was overwritten and spelled out for me that I was left with nothing to do. Give me a challenge, Damn it. For me, I think the more the thriller is subtle and low key about its darkness and secrets, the more affecting it become like You Were Made for This, in this book the author doesn’t spend all her time telling us that this character is mad and that is crazy, she lets us discover it all through their actions and the way the carry themselves. Unfortunately in this book, there was no subtlety, no moment when you hesitate before judging a character, no suspense and no tension.

3/ That epilogue : I don’t know what it was written in that way. After everything was resolved in the final chapter and everything was revealed and the mystery was no more, the author decided to write an epilogue to rehash everything that happened in the book, like have mercy on me. I know what happened in the book, there’s no point n explaining again what went down. I guess she wanted us to discover what become of the main character after that ending, like I would care about that. By that point, I was just yelling what want you end, just please end already.

Let me start off by saying this is NOT a love story. No love story entwined where the two will run off in the sunset holding hands. This is not full of rainbows and unicorns that will make you smile. Not. At. All.

What this story is is a dark thrilling mystery. It is pure torture. From the moment you start to read this book, you will be confused. You will insist on knowing what the heck is happening and why. Be patient young grasshopper, all good things come to those who wait. You will get some answers, you will figure out most of what is going on.... Then, well, then the fun begins.

This story is about a girl who lives in a prison. She has visions or flashbacks of her life that make no sense. Her gut feelings make no sense. Her parents make no sense. Are you noticing a theme here?

I couldn't put this book down. I wanted to figure out the clues on my own. I did figure a few things out, but they didn't make any sense to me, so I knew they were wrong. They couldn't be right because then I would be even more lost. Are you understanding me? Am I making sense?

If you are a dark psychological thriller junkie like me, you are going to love this book. If you are looking for something to torture your soul, definitely read this book. If you are looking for a page-turning, you can't put the book down kind of story, read this one. If you are looking for something to kill all of the unicorns and wipe away all of the rainbows you have recently been reading, read this book. Basically, just read this book.

My name is Julia. I’m twenty-three years old and I hated this book.

All of you readers with an ARC giving this 5 stars are complete liars.

At around 30% in I was telling anyone who would listen to me

But still, I kept coming back for more.. and more... and even more.
It was like the author seems to think the readers have an intelligence level of drywall. Which obviously I must, to keep reading this book.

It is better to have a predictable ending than an ending which is so implausible it shouldn't even be classified as literature.

FIRST, you get a long lost dad... THEN you get a long lost twin.... BUT HANG ON - THE TWINS HAVE DIFFERENT DADS.

This book was a complete and utter waste of time..

Save yourself the braincells and skip this book.

What. Just. Happened?

Literally, as I was reading this I'm pretty sure, "What the fuck?" came out of my mouth at least once per chapter. I had a different theory every chapter, which may sound like complete madness, but with every page turn, the brilliant twists and turns just kept coming. I'd turn the page and think, "I've totally got this figured out." Nope. Not until the VERY last chapter, and then a GASP, my hand over my mouth shaking my head and then a SLEW of curse words. Pretty sure I took a shot of vodka after that.

Tara is an evil genius, folks. Our foul-mouthed, comedy QUEEN, has given us a taste of her dark side and it is bone-chilling CREEPTASTIC!!

Buy the book. Then hit the liquor store for your favorite wine, grab an anxiety med and turn EVERY light on in your house while you read.

This was a VERY different Tara Sivec. Her writing is superb and this story is a real head mash. You will either like it or love it. Although I have marked it as captive - nope its is not what you think.

Ravenna ' s memories of her life are fractured and lost. Everything she is told she is does not feel right. Nothing is how it should be and no one will tell her the truth of what happened a couple nights ago, that left her injured and confused about reality.

Bury Me is my first Tara Sivec book. I know, I started with the darkest of them all! But that is me! Gimme dark and I’ll be a happy girl!

And after finishing it, what comes to my mind? “What the hell did I just read???” How did Tara Sivec come up with this story??? And the funny thing is how did my own mind come up with so many right theories about it??

This book was a FAN-FREAKING-TASTIC psychological thriller! Towards the ending I did make some of the mysteries and I couldn’t believe I was right about some of them! Some actually surprised me as well.

Bury Me isn’t my typical dark romance though. It’s not about abductions, about Stockholm Syndrome, about a cruel hero and a naïve heroine. The heroine in this story is FAR from naïve, actually! It was very fresh to me reading a pyschological thriller like this one.

Does it have romance you might ask? Hm….yes. Maybe. But in this case a (or the) romance isn’t the focus of the story at all. And let me tell you, you won’t be focused on it at all anyways! The story will engage you and you’ll be dying to know what the f*** happened to this girl!! And when we finally learn it, well, you probably DID NOT see that coming! And even if you had (by the end you will come up with it on your own, but I had a few suspicions a bit before the ending) seen it coming, it will still be shocking the way things actually happened!

There is sort of a “quiet” intelligence about a book like Bury Me. It builds a story from the start and the author wouldn’t want to give us much until the end. But at the same time there is no stalling in the story either. Things happen in a right progression and that helps the readers come up with the mysteries themselves. And I liked that a lot.

Tara Sivec trusts her readers enough not to give them the story all chewed up and ready. She gives us the tools and clues and we come up with the result with her help!

Even though I’m not even slightly new to dark (or darkish) books, this one was quite refreshing. Although for real, I wouldn’t really put it in the “dark books” category. It is a total mind f***ck though! No denying that. Specially after that epilogue. That epilogue was GREAT! No apologies for whom any of the characters are or were. Just pure mind-f***ness!!!

I really liked how Tara Sivec build this story. I like how our heroine slowly build her mind back and the way she kept reassuring herself of who she was everytime a new puzzle was fit in the right place! That was a good way to write it and connect the reader with her story!

I did wish for a bit more though. Maybe more about what happened to some of the side characters. The epilogue was good to enlightening us, but I miss that something “more”. That “punch” that takes the story beyond.

Was it a good story though? DEFINITELY! Was it worth the read? HELL YEAH! You don’t want to miss this one! I’ve always heard about how funny Tara Sivec’s books are and although I haven’t read her other books yet, with this one she puts herself in another level. Because writing this kind of book takes balls!!

With this story she totally managed to “bury” some ideas of who or how a hero or heroine should be. She buries the pre-conceived notions of “right”and “wrong” and what makes someone “good” or “bad”. And maybe being “bad” might not be THAT bad after all. Even though it is, it can still be acceptable. Actually, even if it isn’t, she totally made it acceptable in her writing! Bravo, Ms. Sivec!!

This was amazing! Tense, gripping and mind blowing, it's a must read!

Ravenna Duskin is 18 and lives in an old prison. She wakes up one day with no memories, covered in scratches and with a head injury. Her parents fuss over her but won't answer her questions properly. They keep telling her she is a good girl, but why is she having these strange dreams, why does she feel like this isn't who she is?

"My name is Ravenna Duskin, I’m 18 years old, I live in a prison and I’m pretty sure I’m not a good girl.”

Ravenna doesn't know who trust or who to believe. All she can do is try to peice together snippets of her memory and reactions from others. She has to find the answers before it drives her insane.

"My name is Revenna Duskin. I'm eighteen years old. I live in a prison and I will find out the truth, even if it destroys everyone around me."

Anyway, I finished this a few weeks ago but with my boys being sick, I never got around to the review till now, but this book wouldn't leave my head! I kept thinking about it and wanting to write my thoughts. Saying that, it's hard to say much about the plot because I could spoil something!! It's an incredibly intense and thrilling one, and the whole way through the book I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see what happens. I honestly couldn't see where it was going and the ending was a shocker!! I had thoughts and ideas of what would happen and why she felt the way she did, but it never entered my head what really happened!!

Ravenna was a hard character to like but once you read it, you will understand why!! She is one of the most complex, intriguing and fascinating characters that I've read in a long time. I didn't fully understand her till the end and when the big reveal came, it broke my heart for her!!!

The plot was amazing. Creepy setting, tense, thrilling and often times creepy plot, makes for a great read!!! I loved it. I loved the little flashbacks with get from Ravenna and really thought it added to the mystery of the story.

In all this was an amazing listen. It's my first by this author, but definitely won't be my last!! I loved everything about this and can't recommend it enough!!

Stephanie Willis was amazing. She really brought Ravenna to life. She portrayed the helplessness that she feels perfectly and gave me chills while listening to it. It was like she lived what she was talking about!!! She was simply that good!!!!!! If you want to read this book, I'd advise giving the audio a go.

*I received a copy of this for review. This in no way affects my thoughts.*

When I first had the urge to DNF this I should have. The pace was slow. Some suspense would have done this book a lot of good. The ending was ridiculous. It was like something out of a cheesy soap opera. The only part of the book I liked was the beginning because that was the only part where Ravenna seemed innocent. I didn't give a shit about what had happened to her because she was a psychopath and obviously caused some of her own problems. None of the characters were likable. Except for one person, they were all nuts in some way. What a waste of time.
