Madeline left Heron and her family years ago when the isolation and the dangers of life in the bush became more than she could handle. Now, her work has brought her back to the town she once called home... and to the man she never stopped loving. All these years, he's been waiting for her to come home to him, even though Samuel knows their past will be difficult to overcome. If they want to make it work this time, they'll need to find some middle ground.

I am not embarrassed to say that as I'm writing this review, I am wiping tears away and blowing my nose. I read all three books in the series but was brought to tears in the last one, Mountain Pass. I have visited Alaska and have seen both the populated areas as well as the wilderness areas so I know it can be beautiful to see all that untouched land, but scary to think what is out there if you go off the highways. That is what led Madeleine to leave her husband and children. Though Samuel still loved her, he remained adamant in his reasons why he couldn't go with her. Resentment from one of her children, Madeleine is trying to fix things by getting involved in a road project that she believes will bring them closer together again and make her want to move back. If you love romance and suspense, you will enjoy this book. Great description of the area and very likeable characters-great book!!
