ZWD: King Of An Empty City

Rate this book
It's a tale of survival, of love, and of hope with great action and "WTF is NEXT" tension. Survivors of a Zombie apocalypse with no survival skills whatsoever learn as they go along. Author Thomas Kroepfl takes you on an exciting adventure with believable characters in a horrific setting facing real problems and overcoming them in addition to fighting the undead. It's a story that will stay with you long after you have read it. You may even read it twice as some have.

Thomas is currently working on his second publication and hopes to have it finished soon. He doesn’t confine his work to one genre but explores whatever comes to mind with occasional flares of different genre’s appearing in a story. His first novel was a horror story about zombies, his second is about two down's syndrome teens facing adulthood, his third novel he has already outlined the plot as a murder mystery but that's due to change because of a vampire story that keeps popping into his head.

Thomas has published several articles about a subject that has been his lifelong passion, professional wrestling. He has worked for 35 years in the television and radio business as everything from radio disc jockey to photographer to his current position as a sales assistant coordinator.+

In his career he even worked on a wrestling program. Thomas is also a comic book fan, tabletop gamer, avid cyclist and connoisseur of bad movies. He even often holds Bad Movie Night Cinema events where fans of bad movies are welcome to come and enjoy the best of the worst in film. Can't put it down

I really enjoyed reading this book. I had trouble putting it down. It was fascinating to see how they coped with everything and never gave up. The characters were believable. From the first page I was engrossed in the book and really loved it. The attention to detail made it seem like I was there. Anyone who likes zombies should read this book. Great job!!

Thomas Kroepfl's 'ZWD: King of an Empty City' is a rarity in the zompoc genre- it's a stand-alone volume, rather than a series.

The story is very well written; Kroepfl does a superb job of setting mood. The prose is evocative and direct, and does a masterful job of conveying the hopeless feeling of being cold in the snow when all is going wrong, for example, or the triumphant feeling of learning the survival skills necessary in the new world you find yourself in.

The zombies leave a little to be desired. Kroepfl doesn't go into much detail when describing them. And they come across as so easy to put down thirty and forty at a time that it makes the reader curious how they ever gained the upper hand to begin with.

The book's best action sequences come when the protagonist and his followers battle the people in the black truck. They are a group of of murderous drug dealers who have a plan to hook all of the city's survivors on the dealer's meth, thus ruling the city. But they have to rid the city of the protagonist's group, first. Far-fetched? You bet. But very well written scenes.

'ZWD' is the first book of Kroepfl's I've read, and it was a good enough read that I can't wait to read more of his work.

A zombie book based in Little Rock, AR. I love it!!! This was an exciting read, and didn't contain as much gore as so many zombie books do. It was nice seeing familiar places. it makes it very "real". We see nice character development, although I admit, at first, I thought "his girl" was a much younger female - more a child. Of course I thought the main character was younger too - As I started reading I was thinking a teen and his younger sister. I'm not sure why I thought that bit I did. This is truly a good read!

It was an off and on read for me, but then again I wrote it. Reading it as a fan of reading and given that I wrote it last year I have to say I enjoyed it and actually surprised myself with a few things I had forgotten about. As the author I would say buy the book, buy the book, buy the book. But as a reader I have to say I did enjoy it and I think you might too even if you don't care for zombie stories because the zombies are really kind of secondary to the whole thing. It's a fun read. I can see why people have been saying good things about it.

A breath of fresh air in the zombie filled book land!

I found this a refreshing change from the average zombie novel. The characters were vibrant and absolutely individual. They drew me in from page one and made me laugh and cry... I even dreamed about them! The commander was a personal fave! If you're looking for a real birds eye view of how it could be versus your typical zombie infested world this is your book!

An excellent zombie story that I thoroughly enjoyed! The author did something unique concerning the two main characters that I hadn't seen a writer do before and it worked! Great characters who weren't military or preppers that had to learn how to survive in a zombie apocalypse. Just the kind of zombie tale I like!
