I would sooner classify this as a Disney read than I would a horror. Yes, there's some violence, but there's a lot of cute feel good scenes. The story is more about preserving the bigfoot clan and keeping the bad men (A rich villain and the military) from discovering them and destroying their way of life. There's even a cute little girl who gets rescued by them and played a pretty essential role in the story. Not what I look for in my horror reads, but it was interesting enough not to dnf.

After an encounter with a Bigfoot when she was younger, Dr. Tess Brannick has now made it her life mission to prove their existence. She gets funded by one of those rich folk who happen to have ulterior motives, (don't they all)? After a life altering encounter with a Bigfoot, Tess decides to pull out of her contract. But, rich guy is not to happy with this decision and feels that Tess, is hiding something. What follows is a race to stop humans from ever discovering their existence. Along the way she will come face to face with some nasty characters including a pissed off benefactor, a vain reality show star, reporters, the military, and every Joe Hunter wanting to make a name for themselves by being the first to bag a specimen.

I admit it, I couldn't stop reading this book. Loved everything about it, especially some of the characters, and yes, including Bigfoot. I was drawn into the story and just had to know what would happen to them. The story was well written and highly imaginative. Some people might find it a bit unbelievable and 'out there', but hey, this is a work of fiction right? Just sit back and enjoy...

If you are into cryptozoology and love stories about such things, this book is for you. Kudos to the author for a great read!

Hominid starts with a childhood camping trip gone wrong. Years later, a young conservationist still ponders the death of her father, and the strange creature at the centre of the tragedy. Ready to risk her distinguished career in its pursuit, she will stop at nothing to prove the existence of America's best known monster: Bigfoot. But her work and research needs money, and there are those all too willing to provide it, if she can provide them with a body. What she seeks has incredible strength, unprecedented intelligence, and a natural ability to go undetected. The potential it has for military, medical and other interests are all too obvious.

The main character at the centre of Hominid is a strong female lead. I immediately felt her plight and identified with her easily enough. I understood how she thought and I found her very realistic, up to a point at least. Most of the characters are easy enough to get along with, but I have to say I found them a little two dimensional at times.

The first third of the book escalates quickly, and there is a fine sense of threat that builds and has you ripping through the pages. These scenes are described very well, and I definitely enjoyed the first part of the book the most.

Unfortunately, the ominous cover and the build of threat are all for nothing though. It diverged very quickly from being a monster story to one of friendly forest giants, complete with magical empathic abilities et al. This really seemed at odds to what had been suggested and I was incredibly disappointed that the book went down this avenue. Given the considerable amount of research out there, this turned what could have been a brilliant monster story into a farce.

I also had issue with the strong female lead needing a burly Native American to make her life complete. And there were a whole host of strange issues discussed and raised. It seemed to go considerably off track to say the least. I suppose to a certain extent it's simply because I wanted my hominid to be hairy and horrible. In any case, my search for a scary sasquatch continues!

The book blurb for this book sounded reasonably interesting and I have liked the Belial series from this author so I thought I would give this one a try. Sadly enough I found this book to be fairly mediocre. The writing itself is good enough but the story is rather predictable and quite frankly somewhat boring.

The first part of the book was rather good and I felt interested in what was going to happen. At this point in the book there was still a bit of a mystery and research going on. However the last two thirds of the book rather quickly developed into the usual rich guy with lack of moral and conscience tries to exploit the researcher and her find. Add some silly tie ins to the military and a murderous thug and there you go.

Well, there were a few other elements as well, like some moral qualms, a few love life ponderings, a despicable and utterly dislikable news journalist (like most news journalists), a bunch of dumbass people wanting to kill the “monsters” and a criminally stupid governor. None of which contributed to making it a read worthy story as far as I am concerned.

Once the initial mystery and discovery parts were done with the book disintegrated into the all to common kind of story where a few good guys tries to save the “monsters” from the stupid, the bad and the wicked. The story was fairly predictable from there on.

At least the book did not end too poorly for the god guys nor for the “monsters”. Hominid is not a bad book but I expected something else (better) and from my point of view this book do not elevate itself above mediocrity in the same way as the Belial series has.

It's an OK read...

First, the obligatory stuff for KU. I'm please to say that this is a competently written and edited book. The author is fan of the short chapter, but while I'm not fan, it's certainly not a deal breaker.

As several other reviews had pointed out, the story is very predictable. There were no major surprises in the story, and you pretty much knew how things were going to transpire.

If you can get this book on Kindle Unlimited I would recommend it. If you are Bigfoot fan then it's probably worth paying cash as well.

A chunky bigfoot adventure story that was initially playing out with a hint of discovery that was engaging and mesmerizing, eventually developed into a standard contention of a group of people trying to protect the creatures while multiple groups of other people were forcing the issue of finding out more about them. Along the way, multiple subplots that included a selfish businessman, a mercenary with no scruples, a hit reality show who’s goal is to kill a Bigfoot, and the most complex is that of an abused child that was rescued by, and lived with, a family of sasquatch.

While the book was an enjoyable and easy read, it was about as far from horror as one could get. Not a complete deal breaker for me, but I found the earliest chapters to be the most intriguing as the main character began to develop a trust and friendship with one of the creatures that opened the educational doors to my imagination and really had me turning pages at an excessive rate. Once the abused child was introduced, I felt the rest of the book lost most of it’s charm and became more complex than it needed to be.

Synchronicity

Having had a Class A sighting myself as a child, the memory of that fateful event has been with me my entire life.
The descriptions and emotions that were conveyed by the characters in this book were portrayed in such an existential manner that hit close to home for me.
The easy, storytelling method the author uses just pulls you into the incredulity of their initial experiences with Bigfoot.
Reading this you get an idea of what it’s like to use all of your senses when out in the wilderness.
You know in the title what the story is about to portray, but the feelings you get by putting yourself in the characters shoes is well worth the read.
This may be a fictionalized story, but it’s as real as if you were there yourself.
Enjoyed this tale so much I am going to start her other series of books.

The other 5 star reviewers are right!

I am neither a writer or a reviewer. I am an avid reader tho.
I read serious reviewers and then make my choices of what to read
from their incites and talent to express what they find interesting, believable
and great to read. Well, their reviews and my ability to discern who is
being objective lead me to Hominid. I blasted thru this book in less than
a day and a half. This is a book I will long remember. My greatest Thanks
to the Author. I will be reading more of you, I promise.
By the way....you stated you have researched some on giants. I assure you
from my studies over the last 18 years, they existed even being stressed on
in the Bible. Good luck!

***DNF***

Oops. In my eagerness to read Hominids with its exploration of parallel universes, and what it means to be human, I bought the wrong book on my Kindle and ended up with a prosaic adventure about an attractive lady scientist (sigh) finding "a bigfoot". I'm sure it's a perfectly competent thriller, but two chapters in and I'm afraid I didn't care enough to read more. No thank you!

Love, consequences, loyalty, and surprises

This well-told story brings a variety of believable characters to life. Some are interesting, and /some are typical of their professions. Others are intriguing, likable, frustrating, dangerous, or ordinary folk.

The action is character-driven, evolving !naturally. A careful researcher lives alone in the wilderness while she searches for a mythical being. Her desires are fulfilled, but they bring new dangers of its own.

The heart in this story contributes much to the action.

Fantastic Story

I could not put this book down. The heroine, Tess was perfect for the lead character. I loved the twists that RD Brady continually brought to the book.
Many of her ideas she wrote into this story makes human sense!!
I cried with Tess. I finished the book several days ago, but wanted to think about the story... And it is fantastic!!

Engrossing story that brings bigfoot to life

RD Brady writes books that have fascinating plots and twists, but more importantly, she develops characters that you miss at the book's conclusion. Hominid is just that, with an engrossing storyline and characters that will stay with me for days.

A Readers Review

I have to admit, I was a little slow in getting into this book, but am Very glad I stuck with it! By the middle of this story I was involved with the characters and concerned how it would end. I am still a sucker for a happy ending, and the author pulled it together nicely! A very satisfying read!

More YA than action thriller

This book is definitely a case where the cover art is more compelling than the story for me. It reads more like a young adult reader than the action adventure promised by the cover art. And the plot has more holes than Bonnie and Clyde's last ride (not too mention Bonnie and Clyde). A big miss for me.

Great read!

I enjoyed every single page. This book is written from a viewpoint that I felt right in the middle of the story. And maybe most importantly it had an ending that left me smiling. No hook to reel you in longing for the next installment. That seems to be a rarity. That being said if there is a sequel I will read it too!

I found this tale oddly intriguing, I knew nothing about Big Foot really and it taught me a great deal. The story was interesting but a little to sappy, the good gals and guys were a little too good and the bad guys were too bad. I didn’t have a lot of trouble accepting the Bigfoot premise, but ending was a little too pat. Enjoyed the read though and read rather quickly.

Excellent and well researched.

This book was impressive in its quest to show what if Bigfoot really exists. All the characters were well defined and relatable. This is my first R D Brady book but it certainly won't be my last! I love discovering a new author to read and there are many more adventures ahead!

I couldn't put this book down!!! I was a bit skeptical about it initially because I thought this book was gonna be kind of a hastily thrown together plot without much real scientific fact in it. Boy! Was I wrong!!!! I love that the author took a great deal of time to research and include a ton of great scientific facts! A great plot! Beautiful writing!

Great Escape

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It was read during the most difficult time of my life-my surgery to remove Cancer from my body. This book took me away to a place I loved to escape-to Tess and her giant, hairy friends. You will truly care about the protagonist, her human squad, as well as her other hominid family.

Exellent

Been reading a few books on Bigfoot and Skunk Apes recently but hands down this was the best story I have come across. Want to believe that whatever is out there are truly like Brady's Hominids. I definitely believe they are real even though she didn't go so far as that but I think she wants to believe, Wink Wink. Nice having a happy ending of sorts too.

True or false a great story

If you want a good tale sprinkled with humanity, look no further. I loved the story and the characters, especially the biggest, plural Bigfoot. No vocal language for most of the story, but communication none the less. The whole thing is just great entertainment and was really engrossing. Thanks R D for hours of fun.

New spin on Bigfoot

I loved this book and highly recommend it. It's a unique story that doesn't have all the blood and guts so common in most books. It holds your interest from beginning to end. Plenty of suspense. No cursing or sex. Really really interesting take on Bigfoot and interactions with people.

I've read all of R.D. Brady's books. Packed with action, science and historical facts. Yes, they are works of fiction but, blended with fact. The books cause me to ask questions, think and then ask more questions. The sign of a great book, at least for me.

The topic of Bigfoot is interesting to many across America but for the serious enthusiast books like this greatly disappoint. Especially when a particular social issue has to be forced into the pages.

Best Bigfoot book I’ve read

The best Bigfoot book I’ve read where the legends are real and not just another monster story or a tale where Bigfoot isn’t seen until the very end. A fun read.

Great book

I really liked this book. It's more attuned to what people should believe. My ancestors talk of the hairy man to be revered rather than being afraid. They want to live in peace like the native Americans tried to do. Coexisting with nature.

This one really hit the right chord.

I haven't been able to actually get very far in any of his other books, but I kept trying. I found this one really caught my imagination. A shame that real human nature made this plot all the more believable. Sad.
