I think we've found a new family favourite, this picture book is hugely hilarious with plenty of fun rhymes and colourfully striking illustrations.
All Frog wants to do to is find somewhere more comfortable to sit rather than a log, only to be told by a Cat that even though it might not be comfortable - it's the right thing to do. Of course Cat might say that as they have the luxury of a mat!
There's so many funny examples mentioned including Lion on and iron and Gophers on sofas, but the best one was definitely saved until last!
A fantastic book with hilarious rhymes and big clear fun illustrations. Rhyming and amusing, easy to enjoy at all ages but particularly entertaining for young babies and kids (I’ve read it with my 2 month old). I’m actually quite interested in picking up the rest in the series as this one was so fun. 5*s
Kes Grayn ja Jim Fieldin "Oi, Frog" (Hodder Children Books, 2015) ei nimestään huolimatta kerro epäonnisesta ranskalaisesta, joka tulee törmänneeksi laumaan brittiläisiä jalkapallohuligaaneja, vaan sammakosta, joka saa kuulla että tukki on - kivuliaisuudestaan huolimatta - ainoa hänelle sovelias istumapaikka.
Ai miksikö? Koska "Dogs sit on logs", opastaa kissa. "Do the right thing!"
I read this in my Year One Class (5/6 Year olds). The story is really good for rhyming as the cat is explaining what animals are aloud to sit on; cats sit on mats, hares sit on chairs, gofers sit on sofas. The children really enjoyed spotting the rhymes and then I hid the picture and they had to guess what the animal was going to sit on. They thoroughly enjoyed it, especially if they got it right. There are lovely, big and clear pictures which are, at times, very amusing.
This book would be good for finding rhyming words, getting children to think about words that rhyme with animal names. This could lead on to an activity of children writing their own page for the book. Could be used in KS1 .
I love this book the children enjoyed the rhyming words and loved the different animals. It was a good book for helping children to summarise what they had read, they were remembering the different animals.
4 out of 5 stars! ⭐️ This book is so so cute!!! I read it at school with my students. They absolutely LOVED it. The plot is great and I loved the characters.
Man knyga pasirodė keista.
(...) Pelėda ant rankšluosčio būna prisėda. Gibonas - kaspinuotas ponas. Avis uogienių pilį pastatys. Raktas bitei ne gėlė, - tai faktas."
"- Tai šios knygos esmė - tiesiog žodžių žaismė? - jau suprato varlė. - Taip, - jai atsakė aptingus katė."
I will definitely be getting myself a copy of this book by Kes Gray. This is a great rhyming book, making the names of the animals rhyme with what they have to sit on. It would be very effective in the early years and ks1 to teach about rhyme and I think children would enjoy trying to guess what it is each animal is going to have to sit on. I think that it would also be a nice idea to get children to write their own ideas for this book using different animals and finding an object that rhymes with the name of their animal for it to sit on. This book is fun and I found it very funny how ridiculous some of it it (e.g. 'seals on wheels'). Would 100% recommend reading.

This rhyming story is about a frog who discovers that all animals have special places to sit, for example cats sit on mats. The story has a funny ending, as the frog discovers that dogs sit on frogs. The book has bright and amusing illustrations of the animals sitting in their special places, which I think the children will really enjoy. I think this story is best for early KS1, as the class could focus on the rhyming words in the story and could also have fun guessing what the animals could have to sit on.
Funny book naming a variety of animals and rhymes. Humour created from incongruity of sitting places of animals, and really strongand funny ending. Kooky, cute aesthetic. I thought this would be a hit for parents and kids alike at my storytime -- combining the familiar and novel animals for small children with the funny illustrations. My crowd was quite young though, and it was a bit too long. I think reading it to a smaller group or one child at a time would probably be more effective.
Oi frog is one of many in its series which is a fun and creative book for children to read. The main concept of this book is to provide a educational aspect of early alliteration and rhyming which can be used in the EYFS/KS1 classroom to support children’s learning.
The books illustrations are simple for the children to read, with many bright colours filling the pages, making it enjoyable for children to read.
I read this book to a class of children and they loved it. They were giggling away all the way through, often trying to guess what the animals would sit on using their knowledge of rhyme. They especially found the ending funny thinking about what would sit on the frog. This is a fun book, allowing children to see the pattern of rhyme and seeing how the worlds link together. It could then be used to encourage children to think about what they might sit on, what their name rhymes with
I was introduced to this picture book via the library of my partner's adorable niece who just turned two. Finding it funny and charmingly illustrated, I gifted it to my nephew for Christmas. I thought I'd pass it on as a recommendation to those looking for engaging books for toddlers and children learning to read. It's a fun one!
I really enjoyed reading this. Such a simple idea with a little bit of rhyme included. A very funny twist at the end. Ks1 children would enjoy this and you could get them to think of lots of animals and what they might sit on. Children could describe what it may be like to sit on some of these objects. Activities could be written with drawings to accompany it.
I read this book in Waterstones years ago and it made me cry with laughter! I read it again to a small person yesterday and was still chuckling! I do think I NEED these books in my collection - I aspire to write like this!
If you have young children, this book is an absolute must. Not only is the rhyming scheme fantastic, the rhythm and flow of the story is brilliant and there is a lot of humour in it. My son is 7 and still loves it!
I absolutely love this book, it's a very simple rhyming story about a cat that orders a frog around and tells him where all of the animals are expected to sit. It's engaging for younger children as it's full of silly ideas and the lesson ideas for it are endless.
For sheer exuberant silliness this book can’t be beaten. Great, spiky illustrations go with the spiky feline character who tells the frog what’s what. And when read in the wife’s best cockney it is a transport of delight.
Frog is supposed on a log. But logs give him splinters and he doesn't want to. Cat explains him how every animal sits on rhyme-adjacent things (see pictures). Completely bonkers, funny illustrations, and a hilarious final twist.
Amazing book, i loved how i read this book to my daughter it was rhyming the animal names with other name. eg. Frogs sit on a Logs and Cats sits on Mats.
