Alert: by James Patterson & Michael Ledwidge | Summary & Analysis
This is a Summary & Analysis. Alert, by James Patterson and Michael Ledwidge, carries the Michael Bennett series into its eighth volume. A fast-paced action novel, it is a driving read that moves quickly through a chain of increasingly catastrophic events that speak to now-deep fears of attack to a resolution in which those fears are ultimately unrealized.
James Patterson and Michael Ledwidge’s Alert relates the pursuit by New York City Police Department detective Michael Sean Aloysius Bennett of terrorists who orchestrate a series of devastatingly effective attacks on the city and threaten another of catastrophic scale. After pursuing several false leads and helping to thwart their larges attempt at sewing chaos, he finds the criminals and learns that they seek revenge for crimes perpetrated on one of their own. Along the way, readers see the progress of his relationship with Mary Catherine, her work to free herself from her own obligations to be with Bennett and the family life Bennett works in no small part to protect.

A fast paced thriller, that has NY Police Detective Michael Bennett and the all the troops of the American forces on a race against time, fighting to save the City of New York from the devastation of crippling terrorists attacks. The magnitude of the attacks, carried out by use of the highest technology has the Acting Mayor ordering the evacuation of the city. This is my first read of the Michael Bennett series, although it is the 8th in the collection. Hence the characters and their background stories were not very clear to me. The narrative often referred to street names (in numbers). Not being familiar with the terrain, I found it a bit confusing at times. ( A map may have been helpful ?)
It is hard to find a James Patterson book that isn't an excellent read. This is another of the dozens of Patterson books that I've read (two this week). It is a Michael Bennett thriller co-authored by Michael Ledwidge. The story is well set with plot twists and quite logical progression and discovery of aspects, clues, and events. I don't want to hint at any spoilers, so I will leave it with an enthusiastic recommendation as one of the Michael Bennett series. I suggest you first read "Step on a Crack," the first of the series. After that one, I've read them out of order without any problem in keeping the timeline, progression of events and family, and other things logically in order. Very entertaining and very difficult to put down until you finish the last page.
