Charlotte Tremayne is an independent eighteenth century woman, a clandestine novelist, creator of a famous picaresque hero. She has little sympathy for the defeated Jacobites who languish in her uncle’s cells after Culloden, but her interest is piqued by tales of a prisoner who claims to be from the fifteenth century. His far-fetched story might provide material for her next novel.
Braden Ogilvie drowns in 1436 and wakes up in a jail cell accused of Jacobite sympathies. He comes to realize he has been transported more than three hundred years into the future. Drawn to the woman who eventually believes his story, he must nevertheless return to his own time to establish the innocence of his sister accused of a crime she didn’t commit. If he leaves, will he ever find his way back to Charlotte?

This is the second book in the Caledonia series. This is not a stand alone! You really must read "Pride of the Clan" to get the full feel and history to appreciate this read IMHO.
I know I have some conflicting tags listed for this book and that's because it involves two separate couples. I don't usually care for this but the author handled the execution so well that I truly loved it. Let me explain.
The book is broken down into three parts. The first is Braedon and Charlotte, the second is Callum and Lexi, the third is their reunion with the lead into the next book.
Braedon & Charlotte:
Braedon was a ladies mans. Until he met Charlotte. Yes he was a bit of a man whore, and slightly cocky, but not overly so. First his past isn't harped on, and in part two he regrets his past with other women. His love for Charlotte is strong and he had never had emotions for any other woman before. Charlotte is a virgin, but is a passionate woman. She is strong minded, intelligent and beautiful
Braedon is one of the three brothers who "drowned" in "Pride of the Clan" but in reality they were all transported into the future, all in different times (except Donal who's story I have yet to read and confirm). When Braedon wakes in the 1700's (300 years into the future), he's in prison suspected of being a Jacobite who fought at Culloden. The Duke, realizes he is innocent and frees him, but not before the Dukes daughter Charlotte sees him and takes him under her wing. They fall in love yadda yadda. Braedon meets a distant ancestor John Reade and this is when he realizes he must "drown" again to relay a message to his sister Margaret in the 1400's to save her life. Unfortunately when he tries to return to the 1700's to his now wife Charlotte, he ends up in the 1500's near his other "drowned" brother Callum.
Safety for part one:
Hero: experienced, was a man whore, no details and totally redeemable Heroine-Virgin Cheating - No OW/OM- there is a french servant who flirts with him and he looks at her before he meets the h, but that ends rights away when he sees Charlotte. The servant does continue to flirt with him but the heroine (Charlotte pushes her away.. and he doesn't want the servant anyhow). Violence-no Cursing- Maybe a little torture- no, but there is mention of it Abuse-No Rape-No HEA-not yet ILY's-yes Baby-not yet
Part two Callum & Lexi
Callum has saved himself for his wife, unlike his randy brother. Callum wakes up from "drowning" in the bed of a woman, who begins to scream when seeing him. This woman is Lexi. Lexi was sleeping at an inn while traveling with her uncle to a convent. She feels responsible for the death of her parents and has decided to go to a convent to atone. The time here is the 1500's and Mary Queen of Scots regins in Scotland. Long story short, Lexi and Callum are forced to marry but quickly fall in love anyway. Braedon, while trying to go back to his wife, finds himself near the inn Callum has found himself. They meet up and he tells Callum of the whole time travel thing yadda yadda... near the end, after all is resolved, Braedon goes to drown himself again (to get back to his wife), Callum and Lexi are present to say goodbye to him, but Lexi's uncle tries to interfere and Callum and Lexi end up drowning as well.....
All three end up in the 1700's. Charlotte finds them and Braedon finds he has a son. John Reade locates a document that sheds light on where the third brother is.. still in the 1400's. Maybe he didn't drown?
No safety issues in this part to worry over at all.

As always the author delivers a wonderful exciting story with lots of twists and turns. I could not figure out the story like I normally do and it kept me guessing. The two stories entwined were so interesting.
The story kept you in involved and you, couldn't put it down. You had to find out what was going to happen. Great read by a great author!
If I'd had more free time, I'd have read this one practically overnight I think. Despite my time restriction, I enjoyed this immensely!
"Highland Tides" by Anna Markland is the second book in her Caledonia Chronicles series, but it can very easily be read as a standalone.
This book felt like an old friend. Perhaps that sounds odd, but I'm not sure how else to describe my overall feelings. It definitely grabbed my attention in the beginning, but the pace became sedate (for me—and in a good way). I could set this down and pick it back up without missing my place or feeling any less devoted to the story. It was a friend I looked forward to visiting after a trying day!
This intricately woven tale surrounds Braden Ogilvie, who drowned along with his brothers. Rather than that being the end, however, it was only the beginning.
He woke up in the future, trapped in a dungeon, and he assumed he was in Hell itself until he was released and taken care of by Lady Charlotte, who was originally most interested in his tales of drowning and time travel. She was an author with a male pen name, and she believed he'd be the perfect topic for her next book.
Once he was cleaned up from his time in the dungeon below, however, she couldn't deny the attraction that was growing between them.
To complicate matters further, it was made clear that if he did not attempt to warn his sister, she'd likely die. How could he warn her? By drowning again, of course! The hope was that his third drowning would bring him home to his love, but it does not (due to an errant thought he had at the end). Despite the very uncomfortable mode of travel, I'd say that Mr. Ogilvie was a very adept time traveler!
Will they ever find each other? Will this be a fantasy rather than a formulaic love tale, which promises a HEA? Even if you've guessed that answer, you'll never guess how they reach the amazing end to this fantastic tale!
There were a few side characters who really added depth to story, which I appreciated. Callum, one of Braden's drowned brothers, makes quite an appearance, which leaves a poor young woman in a seemingly compromising situation at first. She had, after all, decided to become a nun before this second time-traveling brother appears on top of her in bed! To make matters worse, they are discovered almost immediately! Never a dull moment. Of course, that wasn't what it seemed to be, but looks can be oh so deceiving! I wasn't sure if this was one book or two for a while. So wonderful!
This was very well done, and I highly recommend it!

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC but that does not colour my review in any way. Wow!! What an awesome adventure. I wish I had had history teachers who could make it this exciting. Braden is the oldest of three brothers believed to have drowned in the year 1436 , This is mentioned in first book of this series. (Pride of The Clan) . He regains his senses in a dungeon, and knows he deserves to be in hell ,it's his fault he and his brothers are dead. He soon comes to realize he has somehow travelled into the future. Charlotte is a modern, intelligent woman in the year 1746. She has written a highly acclaimed novel under a male pseudonym. She is looking for ideas for her next book, so joins her uncle when he interrogates the prisoners from the battle of Culloden. I will not follow that with more details because I don't want to spoil the story for you. Braden knows he has to go and visit his sister. This will take more courage than you might think. On his return journey he finds one of his brothers. Along with more danger and adventure. Callum wakes from his drowning in a wonderful soft bed, he knows he is in heaven because he is deserving. That is until the woman next to him starts screaming. Lexi is journeying with her uncle .She is on her way to a nunnery, but her uncle is meeting with a mysterious group of men to arrange something that could cost them their lives.
We have two stories linked as one in this book, so you get lots of action and adventure. Our heroes are brave and sexy. One of our heroines is a very independent woman . The other thought she had decided her own life but fate ( our author) had other ideas. I can´t wait to read the next story in this series.
He thought he would never see his brother again, but fate had other plans. Callum thought he was dead even after waking up in the bed of a beautiful woman. If this was heaven then why was her Uncle threatening his life for comprising his Niece and forcing him to marry this beautiful stranger? The brothers reunion takes dangerous twists and turns to save themselves and Callum's new wife. This perilous time in history gives us a glimpse into the life of Mary Queen of Scots and the turmoil of plans and schemes of powerful men and their lust for more power not caring for her welfare at all. We see her as a woman instead of a Queen.
This is a story steeped in love, romance, history and murders. The time travel parts are fun to imagine. How the couples come to be and how dedicated they are to one another and family is special. Lots of details and interesting characters. Read in one day bc I couldn't put down.
Wow, this was such an awesome story, filled with time travel, plenty of twists and turns, as well as many delightful characters who all bring the story together.
First there is Braedon & Charlotte's story followed by Callum & Lexi's story and then the four of them together. Very well written and a book I definitely recommend.
I have yet to read a Markland book that I did not like. It is a bok for mature audiences. I also enjoy the author's notes at the end of her books. If you have not read her work, begin with the Montbryce family. Well all of her series.
I really enjoyed this book and I'm not normally a fan of time travel where they go forward in time. I love the author's style of writing and her characters. This series, so far, is one of my favorites.
I had to take a star off for sexual content but this was a great story though I don't believe in time travel it made for Interesting reading. It is fiction after all😊!!!
Time travel adventures. This was one of those stories that got me thinking one thing when I started reading and ended up taking a completely different route by the time I finished. Not a bad thing though. This is the second book in the series but can be read as a stand alone as I did not read the first one and never felt lost.
I’d divide the story in three thirds. The first third was told at a very fast pace. Before I knew it our hero and heroine had met, fell in love and shared plenty to last a lifetime. Again, I’m not complaining but not exactly what I’m used to. Also, I think I learned more about the Scots in those few pages than I’ve done in my entire life. I have complained before about throwing too much info at me at once but when it comes to actual history I will always appreciate it as long as it’s told in an engaging and entertaining way, or such as in here, where it was made sound funny. The other 2 thirds were not entirely about our main couple; as a matter of fact another romantic couple was introduced and a subplot took place. Not bad and it actually gave the story a twist of action and adventure. Definitely not a bad story because it made me want to read more from the author but I wish it would have been a little longer for it to expand a bit more at a more steady pace. 3 1/2 stars.

I received this book as an ARC for an honest review.
I couldn't put this book down. It is the second book of the Caledonia Chronicles, I haven't read the 1st but I'm going to go back and read it. I highly recommend this book!
Braden Ogilvie drowns with his brothers and when he wakes up he thinks he's in hell. He soon finds out that he didn't die but was transported to the future. He catches the eye of Lady Charlotte Tremayne who is a writer under a man's name. She wants to write a story about the blond giant's tale. However she didn't expect to fall in love with him. In learning of the past he realizes he has to leave the woman he's falling in love with and try to go back to his time to make things right.
Will be make it back to the future after he goes to the past or will he never see Lady Charlotte again?
Couldn't Put it Down Just like the first book in this series, I couldn't put this down until I finished the whole book in one day. What I love the most about the author is she is able to described everything in such great detail, she makes you feel like you are right there with them. I look forward to reading more from this author.
