BOOK ONE EXCERPT: Sam groaned deep in his chest and began to move, backing me into the wall without breaking the kiss. I kept my grip on his hair, loving the feeling of his head in my hands as his mouth fed from mine in kiss after drugging kiss. His hands were everywhere, stroking my back, my sides, untucking my blouse and sliding beneath to brand my bare skin with trails of heat. When his palm rose to graze the side of my breast, I whimpered. Like a shot, he was gone, stepping back, dropping his hands and shoving them in the back pockets of his jeans. “Sleep well,” he said as if he hadn’t just been holding me to the wall kissing the life out of me. “If you need anything, I’m right across the hall.” With that, he left. I stood there, leaning against the wall for a long minute before going to the bathroom to change into his t-shirt. I got into his bed, surrounded by his scent and tried to fall asleep, my head spinning from his kiss. What had that been about? I’d never had any idea Sam might want to kiss me. I’d dreamed about it, but I hadn’t imagined those dreams might ever come true. Not that they had, really. In my dreams he didn’t kiss me breathless and then walk away.
Alexa Wilder has been a sucker for romance since she found her first Harlequin at a hospital rummage sale when she was thirteen. While she loves all forms of the written word (so much that she occasionally gets caught reading the cereal box at breakfast), love stories have always been her favorite.
She lives in the southern U.S. with her husband, two sons, an assorted menagerie of pets, and spends most of her time dreaming up sexy, domineering heroes and the feisty, strong willed heroines who will send them reeling.
An independent heroine is one thing. A stupid one is another. Chloe is stupid.
I'm not sure I can plow through two more of these. I'm finished with book one and I don't really care what happens to or with Chloe or her idiot brother.
This may have been more interesting if the missing brother had been given some redeeming qualities. However, we're repeatedly shown that he's an irresponsible user who has endangered his sister. So far, there is nothing here to root for. Chloe's blind loyalty and insistence in placing herself and, the man she claims to love, in danger for her idiot brother is not endearing. It doesn't make her seem loyal and strong. It makes her seem naive and foolish.
This was not an interesting beginning. Thankfully, this isn't my first read by the author or it'd probably be my last. I know Ms. Wilder can do better.
I love books with a Strong Heroin, But Chloe annoyed the HELL out of me. It's one thing to be used to taking care of things on your own but a whole other thing to completely lack self preservation. She always put her self in the most stupidest situations and then had the NERVE to get pissed at Sam for her ignorance. I mean the beginning of the book was of her HIDING from the bad guys she saw at her place. I mean if you don't want to be seen then WHY would you get in the middle of the shit storm? She was acting like a spoiled little brat and very bitchy at times. Sam had the patience of the POPE to be able to deal with her. She was annoying to the very end. When he brought her things to his place from her apartment and she got pissed I was so glad that the book was at it's end. I can't leave a book without finishing it, but I was glad to finish this one.
I hate Chloe. I hate her SO much. 'My brother is messed up with the Russian mob, and they are looking for me too! But he's my responsibility and I should go look for him myself!' Talk about codependent relationship. I hate not finishing books, but I don't know if I'll be able to make it through the next 2.
WTH was Chloe thinking? She just became one of my hate-est heroine. Sam did everything for her, and told her his feelings, and look what did she say, what had she did?
WoW, she was so dm annoying. She didn’t deserve Sam. She was being naive and like a idiot, each time she turned Sam down just because her personal stupid dm judgments.
AND SHE WAS NOT INDEPENDENT AT ALLL. She was one of most stupid heroines I have ever read. She was a silly woman faking already fell asleep and you never gonna wake her up.
***A gifted copy was provided by the author for my honest review***
In book one; we were introduced to Sam and Chloe. Chloe works for Sam and she is totally and completely in love with her boss Sam. She doesn’t think he would ever feel the same for her…not realizing he already does. Neither act on their feeling because they are afraid they would damage their working relationship and hurt their boss/assistant relationship beyond repair. Chloe has a serious problem –her stupid brother ripped off a Russian mob boss and now they are looking for them thru her. She isn’t safe so she goes and hides out in one of the rental properties. Sam, thinking he has vandals back again damaging his property, finds Chloe there. He is wondering what is going on and she explains. Sam is upset on her behalf and his alpha male is riled up, wanting to take on those men for her. Chloe didn’t realize how big of trouble her brother was in until they ( her and Sam) start asking questions. As they are asking questions about what kind of trouble her brother is in and how it affects Chloe, the sparks chemistry is going between Sam and Chloe. It is fantastic to watch the MC go from good friends to fantastic lovers in this book. This is only part 1 and part two is coming out soon. There are many twists in this story so I cannot wait for book 2 to come out to know what happens. Sam is a handsome alpha male who is super sexy in this story as a construction boos and Chloe is a vibrant , loving sassy Assistant who wants to be in Sam’s life. This is a great book 1 and I am looking forward to the upcoming books in this series.
The 1st book in this new series and we are off like a shot. We are introduced to Chloe and Sam. As it opens Chloe has gone into hiding and her boss Sam finds her hiding. We learn that Chloe has a thing for Sam and unknown to Chloe Sam has a thing for Chloe. We get to watch as Sam starts off slowly showing Chloe that he loves her and Chloe thinks that its not real that Sam isn't really in love with her. We learn that Chloe's brother Nolan has gone missing and is being hunted down by some serious bad guys. We watch as Sam brings in his best friend Axel to hunt down Nolan and to keep Chloe safe which keeping Chloe safe is a job all in its own making.
In The Courtship Maneuver - Book One we are introduced to Sam and Chloe. I love this story since it deals with a curvy woman and a strong alpha male (did I mention handsome?). Prior to getting into a relationship, Sam and Chloe were friends. The story evolves as their relationship does and both of them act on their attraction, but not without struggles. The book will hold your attention and you won’t want to put it down. Highly recommended.
If you have not read the Wedding Rescue, read it,and then read The Courtship Maneuver.
This story has it all, drama, suspense, mystery and a hot alpha male looking for romance. Oh, and the alpha male is in construction, and his female of choice is his executive assistant (secretary).
Loved, loved, loved it! (I was given an advanced copy by the author in exchange for an honest review.) Another great book by Alexa Wilder. Great character development, a well thought out and put together story, and it has so much more. There are plot twists and thugs and a brother who really needs to grow up! And did I mention the Russian mobster? Loved it!
LOVED this book! I've loved everything I've read by Alexa Wilder so far, and this series was no different. Can't wait until Axel's book! I received an ARC of this book from the author, but I would have read it anyway.
Great characters and a great storyline. Love the alternating views and how hard Chloe is trying to not ruin her friendship with Sam. But with her pursuing her he's making it hard got here.
These 3 short books, make up the whole story, they have to be read together. I can tell they are going to be full of interest. They are fast moving and short. The first book was 13 chapters and covered 3 days. I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to reading the next 2 books.
Very well written... (even if the cover bugged me). I read the entire 3 books of the series. The story is of Sam and Chloie. Some twists and turns and good build of character. I enjoyed this and then went to another one of Alexa Wilder's series of books called The Reckless Secret.
Yes, I know it's an office courtship, but this one has a twist. In true Alexa Wilder form she brings her characters to life and you can't stop reading. I lost sleep on this one, but well worth it.
This was definitely not what I expected proving once again, never judge a book by its cover! I have to say it was hawt!! Funny in parts, but a great start
