Falling in Love with Picking Myself up

Rate this book
Talicha Johnson's debut poetry collection touches on body image, sexuality, racism, sexual violence, love and most importantly it centers on self-awareness.

"This collection of poems speaks with the soulful wisdom of Maya Angelou and echoes the energy and perspective of today's millennials“Amazing” is the word used to describe an incredible magic trick or a Beyonce concert, this collection is Beyonce doing the most amazing magic trick while singing and dancing. This book opens you up to Johnson's vulnerability while carefully exposing your own. In a time where poetry collections look for safe places to land and disrupt the calm, this book seeks out the hard places in your heart to crash land and start a fire with words. The long and short of it all, this book is page to page courage and kick-ass!"

Talicha's book Falling In Love with Picking Myself Up is amazing. Truly a powerful and real read. The emotions jump off the page and ask you to confront yourself and the world around you. It's vulnerable yet strong. I recommend this book to any poetry lover. Amazing.

This book really hit home with me I could relate to her relationship with her body & her feelings involving her mother who had a mental illness. This book is written so beautifully and you can really feel what she’s writing about. Definitely a five star book IMO.

Gorgeous writing. I admit I was skeptical when I learned this collection was self-published, and I am ashamed I felt that way. This collection should have won awards. Talicha has a superior talent for words and storytelling. A true delight to read.
