Fox Swift takes on The Unbeatables is the hilarious sequel to David Lawrence’s much-loved book Fox Swift. With wacky cartoons and expert footy tips from Hawthorn champion Cyril Rioli, this book is a gripping page-turner that will have kids cackling from start to finish – even the most reluctant reader won’t be able to put it down.
Fox Swift is really excited about captaining the Davinal Diggers for a second season. Who wouldn’t be? The Diggers have Aussie Rules superstar Cyril Rioli giving them football tips, a galaxy of star players, some sensational new recruits, and let's not forget their quirky mascot: a kangaroo with serious attitude.
But Mace Winter and his father Miles have hatched an evil plan to stop Fox and the Diggers from defending their premiership. They have sneakily recruited the best footballers from all the other teams in the competition to make up a formidable Dragons team they call ‘The Unbeatables’.
Can Fox and his friends avoid detentions, dirty tricks and a rat plague to bring home an unlikely premiership for the Diggers?

Since I read the first fox swift I was sort of expecting the same sort of story line. After reading the blurb I am also expecting Mace, his dad and Vince his sidekick to do something cheeky, and against the rules of the footy league but I’m not quite sure what it is. Also my friend recommended me to read the first one and I thank him for doing that because I loved it. I also decided to pick it up and read it because I read the first book in the series and I really enjoyed it because it was a good story line for a boy from year 6 boy to enjoy.
I think Fox is a good bloke because he is chilled and really nice. He also stuck up for Chung when he first came to school. But Chung didn’t really need help because he thought the bullies, (Mace and Vince) were playing a game with him and he was too quick for them and knew what was coming. But Mace and Vince sound like really annoying people because they always try to cheat but it always fails and turns on them. I now also know what the cheeky plan Mace, Vince and Miles Winter are doing and sadly it is working. In the first game the Dragons one by over 200 points, and when they versed the diggers and the Dragons beat them by 27 points. This is why the dragons have named themselves The Unbeatables. But I think they will get beaten in the Grand Final against the Diggers and it will serve Miles and Mace wright for cheating. There have been some funny moments like when the Dragons versed the Diggers and Mace took a simple chest mark in the goal square on the final siren. He made sure everything was perfect by pulling up his socks, seeing what way the wind was blowing ext., and as he took his run up to kick a simple goal Gary the rabbit came out of nowhere and gave Mace such a surprise he completely missed kicked the ball and it went out of bounds. Also when Mace took Fox to court for selling his rabbit, and they didn’t have the ownership papers so they put Gary the rabbit in the middle of the room. Vince told Mace that rabbits couldn’t resist the smell of carrot juice so he went to the corner shop and bought some carrot juice. When he came back he poured it all over Mace’s hands, Vince poured so much Mace’s hand went slightly orange. The judge lifted up the box in the middle of the room. Gary took a big smell and ran as fast as he could to fox.
Because I read the first book I said that I was thinking that the Diggers would beat the Dragons in the grand final but there was a bit of a twist. I think it was a good idea that David Lawrence wrote about Mace and his dad cheating again and even with them cheating they can’t beat the Diggers. I liked it when Mace and his dad got caught cheating and they lost the grand final. At that point in time I was thinking “In your face Mace. That’s what cheaters get. HAHAHA!!!!!!” I also like it when the Diggers recruit a new player and how the player is a very interesting character. I also like it when the Diggers recruit someone that doesn’t really know how to play footy but after lots of training they always turn out being one of the best Diggers players. They also always have their own unique talent. There were some really funny paragraphs and chapters in the book which I would sometimes laugh out loud to, like when Miles Winter was asked to leave the footy match because he was screaming and yelling at his team to much. There were also some really sad parts, like when Mace and Vince bullied Chung because he was Chinese but Chung always thought it was a fun game and always outran outsmarted or out reacted them.
I loved this book, it was really exciting and dramatic, the last few pages when it's the grand final and the game is so close. But near the end the Diggers manage to break away and Win!!!
I can relate this to the Harry Potter books and movies, because Draco Malfoy was being really rude to Harry, like Miles was being mean to Fox. But in the end it was Karma and the bad people lost or got in trouble.
I loved when Miles said to Fox "you're going down in the grand final", but in the end they actually lost and he acted like a crying baby, instead of being a good sport he blamed everyone on his team when part of the loss was his fault.
Overall I loved this book and I would recommend it to anyone my age!
I really liked this book. It is full of excitement and fun. I love fox swifts character because I like the sporty characters in books. I think this book shows that anyone can play footy, for an example when the boys from the dragons say that john is to fat to play, foxes coach Higgins said that Cyril Rioli can send him a diet to help him play. I also think that this book is adventurous because Fox goes on a journey on making new friends new skills. Overall what I've read so far I love this book! I really want to read more!
