Colorado Hearts #1

Kissing Mr. Right

Rate this book
Kendall Clark has always dreamed of anchoring the national news. The dedicated Denver journalist has worked hard to earn more than her fluff-piece reporting job. When she’s asked to star in an on-air dating show to increase her station’s ratings, she initially refuses…until she learns that participating will give her a shot at a national news-desk position in New York.

But nothing prepares Kendall for the dating show’s popularity—or for the laughable dates she’s forced to endure on camera. To complicate matters further, she’s falling hard for Tyler Bishop, the handsome scientist hired to consult on her first big news story. Ty soon finds himself equally smitten with Kendall and sets out to prove he’s her Mr. Right. But is there room in his quiet life for a woman with such a public image? And when Kendall’s integrity is questioned, will she choose her dream job or her dream man?

My Rating: 4/5

I received a copy from Thomas Allen & Sons in exchange for an honest review.

Ever since I read one book from Michelle Major, I'm determined to read a whole bunch of her books. She writes the type of contemporary romances that will jerk your emotions around and make you really connect with the characters so really what is not to love??????

Kissing Mr. Right is no different from her other books. Our main heroine, Kendall, is a beautiful newscaster for the local television channel in a small town. She's living every feminist worst nightmare. Kendall is not being taken seriously at all at work and is deemed a bimbo who doesn't know a thing from flaky news to real hard hitting journalism. But it's not her fault. It seems that in order for her to anchor the national news in New York, you have to start somewhere and that somewhere just so happens to be being the star of the new reality dating show her boss is putting on.

In order for her to score an audition for a new opening in New York, Kendall agrees to be the show's main attraction. Enter our hero, Ty. Ty met Kendall via a not so traditional route where Kendall accidentally crashed her car into his truck. Ty is immediately drawn into Kendall's prim and proper beauty and knows there's something much deeper than her ice-queen exterior. He's relentless in pursuing Kendall's heart. Regardless of Kendall judging Ty for his occupation (he's a landscaper), Ty proves Kendall wrong at every turn. He's kind, considerate, helpful, and super intelligent which makes him super sexy. Turns out Ty holds a PhD and will be the key to Kendall's story which involves the forest fire that happened to the small town a few years back.

The story is more complex than I make it out to be. Ty has some daddy issues that need to be cleared and Kendall has commitment issues. She refuses to settle for anything and anyone like her mother and end up regretting her small town life if she choose to stay with Ty.

My recommendation
Read this book if you're in the mood for a small town romance with characters that are super sweet but also super stubborn. It's the perfect romance to kick off the Summer season!

Light and easy romance read

The story
Kendall Clark is a tv presenter doing lifestyle stories. She has her life goals mapped out and isn’t budging from her plan. Growing up poor, she has done everything to get ahead, including putting her own happiness on pause until the time is right. When she looks up and sees her face on a billboard advertising a reality dating show in aid of charity, she accidentally rear ends the truck in front of her. Will meeting Ty Bishop by accident change her life plans?

My thoughts
I read some of Michelle Major’s Magnolia Sisters series through Libby and really enjoyed the light hearted, friendship and love aspects of the series. When this Colorado series came on a Kindle deal a few months ago, I added them to my groaning TBR list. I enjoyed this cute story featuring Kendall and Ty. This is not high brow writing or storytelling but it hit the spot when I felt like a light and easy romance read.

I enjoyed this light romance a lot.

I especially appreciated the emphasis- on both parts- placed on consent! While their passions may have been overwhelming, neither lover used that as an excuse to try to overwhelm the other, and instead were pretty careful to back off if there was not enthusiastic consent. And it was HOT!

Both lovers did change and grow as a result of their relationship, too, although Kendall- the woman- changed the most. I am not as keen that her change led her to back down on her original ambitions, while his change made him take up a more prestigious gig.

So, these were the parts I really liked.

Less successful was the depiction of Kendall, our heroine: she has issues, granted, but she stayed stuck in the same ones for longer than was compelling. I also suspect it was intentionally vague about her job: TV anchor? Investigative reporter? Junior reported who does animal stories? sometimes one, sometimes another. Similarly with Ty, our hero: I suspect the qualiti4es needed to be a successful ecological soil scientist, and those required to be a successful landscape designer/gardener, are vastly different.

Still, the relationship was handled pretty well and was fun to read, even though it did grt a bit repetitive as they both reiterated their positions, repeatedly.

I don't think that physical chemistry can conquer serious differences in lifestyle and values... but it may give people the impetus to work to conquer such. And I also believe in emotional chemistry- sometimes, one just KNOWS that the other is Mr/Ms Right... although it makes sense to apply brains to that as well!

Fun read, for romance fans.

Picked this book from my Kindle free option because it sounded cute and lighthearted. Well it was, but to the point where it didn't seem like adult level reading. I made it 50 pages before I wanted to stop reading. I made it to around 100 before I decided I couldn't power through anymore. The main character is very annoying and her train of thought was boring when it wasn't annoying. The only part which moved with any ease were the "romance" scenes and I don't pick a book up at an attempt to be "hot and bothered" I pick it up to enjoy a story line, which there just plain isn't one here. At 100 pages into it I did not care at all what happened to the characters or how the "problems" introduced would resolve.

Already a fan of Major's work, I have been waiting for this one and read it one sitting! It grabbed me from the start with its relatable characters and fun, smart dialogue. I could totally relate to Kendall and felt like she could have been one of my friends. I loved the dating show premise and laughed out loud at some of the predicaments she found herself in. Ty was the perfect hero--cute, smart, funny--and I loved the fun flirty relationship he and Kendall had and the progression of how it turned into more- a lot more--actually everything. This book was funny and touching and an adorable romantic comedy. I've already pre-ordered the next one in the series!

I enjoyed this one. The female lead Kendall drove me just a bit crazy but Ty definitely made up for her. Kendall has always lived her life by a plan and she won't let anything get in her way. The goal is a spot in NY national news desk. Falling in love along the way, not an option. Until Ty....

A good read, nothing too deep but enjoyable.

It was cute. It took me a little while to get into the characters but once I did it was an enjoyable read. Kendall was slightly annoying at times but Ty was so easygoing with her that it helped me overlook it. It was good enough that I want to read the next one about one of her friends. :)

The Right Mr. to Kiss

Kendall Clark is an aspiring reporter who seems to be getting the short stick at her job in Denver. Every time she turns around she is doing trivial stories about animals or some queer thing her station finds interesting enough to send out a reporter. But she wants to move up in the world and there's an opening coming up in New York that she wants but she has to do something for her station before they will send her for an interview. But she is refusing unless they let her do a follow up story on the fires that devastated an area of Denver when she first arrived. On her way to work one day she sees herself on a billboard advertising her in a dating scheme backed by her station. In the process of looking at the billboard she runs into the back of a truck. The guy that gets out of the truck looks like a hunky farmer and he turns out to be more than she bargained for. Tyler Bishop is not what he seems and turns out to be exactly what Kendall needs. But she fights her attraction at every turn until she can't fight anymore. When it comes down to it she still chooses her plans over the man and her heart. But things do end up well in the end.

I won this book on Facebook. I was so excited to get as I have read two other series by Michelle Major and loved them. This book was fantastic as well.

The book starts with a bang. Kendall rear ends a vehicle in front of her. When the hot blue eyed guy makes sure she is okay she is dazed for a bit.

Kendall has a life plan, she doesn't want to be a part of a dating show for her tv station. She makes a deal that if she does it she can get a recommendation for NY.

Ty is not part of those plans. When he comes in to help on a story she is doing she is flabbergasted and mad!

They work together. The chemistry is electric anytime they are near each other.

Ty keeps lowering her guard and slipping in. She doesn't want it and doesn't know how to handle it.

When she does lower it seems like everything goes to pot..

Can Kendall see that she doesn't need to plan her life away and that she deserves to be happy? Can Ty expose something he has been trying to for years?

A wonderful and well written book!

I really enjoyed this first book in the series. Kendall has worked hard for most of her life to develop a facade she believes is necessary to achieve her dreams. It is good to read her realization of the value of the love and sacrifice of her parents to help her achieve her goals. Ty has left his past behind to become the authentic person he wants to be.

There are humorous moments to the story and I appreciated how each of the characters were able to evaluate their current circumstances and move forward into a more fulfilling life together.

This is the first book I have read by this author and I picked up the series after recently moving to Colorado. I enjoyed the descriptions of the Rocky Mountains and appreciate Ty's dedication to the outdoors as well as the book's look at the devastation that occurs during a wildfire and what it takes to rebuild a community afterwards.

"The question is, are you willing to look beyond the surface and see the value of what's underneath?"

Kendall Clark has always wanted more from her life than the trailer park she grew up in. By pretending to be who she's not, she learns to fit with the "in-crowd" that she always wanted to be a part of. All she knows is that if she sticks to her "life plan", her life will be so much better than her parents. But what happens when she realizes that there's more to everyone than what you just see on the surface?

I surprised myself with liking this book as much as I did. I needed an already downloaded Kindle book and this must've been a free book I chose at some point. Kendall was a bit much at times, but her love interest, Ty Bishop, more than made up for her. A cute, romantic story for when you need an easy read with a happy ending.

This is chick lit.

I wish I had this as a paperback book and could immerse myself in it. I did enjoy reading this book but I'm not completely in love.

Kendall is judgemental snob. I say this to my fiancee quite a bit but just because you grew up one way i.e. poor doesn't mean you can't be a snob. I can appreciate its because she was thrust into a certain environment where it was conform or be bullied but she can't have learnt much from her life before hand if she allows herself to almost bully others.

I like Ty, hes got good moral upbringing and he feels like he is so sweet and I think he is in love with Kendall before they even get going. They make a cute couple in the end.

About 2.5 stars maybe? It was okay. The overall plotline had a lot of potential but I don't feel like it really embraced it. One of my own personal issues with general contemporary romance is a lot of them feel more like lust stories than love stories and I would include this one. There were only a couple of parts that were really skim worthy though. The non-romance pieces were more interesting.

By the way, this was a freebie from Amazon from a while back and quarantine has motivated me to just read what I already have.

Pretty cheesy, and I get a little annoyed when one half of the couple spends the entire book saying over and over how they just want casual and nothing else despite the fact that it's clearly more serious. It just gets so repetitive. And not true at all! But that's just a bit of it.

There were a lot of tropes in here and nothing too special. But it was a cute read that kept my interest the entire time. That's a win for me.

I was looking for a light and cute book between some more serious reads so I borrowed this one. It was enjoyable but pretty predictable. The main character Kendall got a bit annoying at times but I really liked the character Ty. I would have liked it better if more had been told from his perspective than hers.

Love, love love

Kennedy is a heterogeneity a set ofgoals. She is close to reaching them when she mets Ty. She isn't fond of him for a while. Ty is trying to distant himself from his family. He likes Kennedy but knows it can't last. Can they work out their stubbornness to find what truly matters. I so loved this book

Very Steamy Romance

From the moment she meets Ty Bishop, apparently a gardener, when she crashes her jeep into his truck, Kendall, a tv broadcaster, is ready to make love with him and he with her. So there is no slow awakening but sex, sex, and more sex. Not badly written but a bit banal.

Sweet romantic story

From time to time, you need a sweet, romantic story to warm your heart, and this book fit the bill. Although a bit predictable at times as most romance books are, it was well written and had a good story line.

It was…. Ok….. I hated the narrators voice for Ty. And him being so angry when she comes back when he was planning on going to her was soo dumb. It has the tiniest bit of spice

Try and Kendall

I really enjoyed this book about a young woman who had made a plan for her life and wasn't going to change it for anything. Then she met Ty. Complications happen. A good book.

kinda felt like there was too much going on in this book. it didn’t go deep into any of the different sub stories in the book - his complicated fam, her dating show thing for the news, his job, her family & more. it just kinda mentioned them and moved on?

Very enjoyable read, with believable characters and real life situations. I couldn't wait to read how Kendall and Ty would interact through each chapter.
