33 books62 followersThalia grew up on a farm on the outskirts of Melbourne with a mum who tried to save battery hens by on-selling them as backyard chickens. Her dad worked as an industrial chemist while also growing strawberries, carrots and Christmas trees on the farm. It was not unusual to find plant shoots in the freezer, or the hair dryer missing because it was needed to heat one of her dad’s experiments. Thalia's childhood showed her the magic that can happen when science and nature combine with human creativity.
In 2012, Thalia released her first standalone young adult novel, Silhouette, which follows a talented and determined young dancer as she navigates her way into the adult world of commercial dance.
These days, Thalia lives in regional Victoria with her husband, their two children and two black cats.

I remember reading these books in primary school, all the girls in my grade would rush into the school library to call dibs on these books HAHAHA oh good times.

I m loving it!!!
It's December and I am left with too much to read..Just couldn't read in last few days due to exams .

Ujous, uuden harrastuksen aloittaminen, ulkopuolisuuden tunteet, ystävyyden helppous ja mutkikkuus, oikeat vaatteet...
Pieniä ongelmia, joista tulee iso vyyhti. Turvallisen lapsenmakuisesti käsitelty tarina, joka nousi siivilleen kuvatessaan tanssimisen ja liikunnan iloa, onnistumista ja rakkautta omaan tekemiseen. Tuli hyvä mieli jo lukiessa :).

Another Go Girl! book, this one focuses on dancing and having confidence in yourself. Another silly, slightly fluffy book that I enjoyed. Plus, it has glitter on the cover.
(I can read one of these Go Girl! books in 15-30 minutes. They are definitely early chapter books.)

Ballet-dancer Charlie is thrilled to begin a modern dance class, but when she sees how fancy the other girls are, she suddenly feels out-of-place. Then another girl is injured while preparing for an upcoming recital. Can Charlie prove her ability to fill the role? Or will she be backstage forever?
This is a fun, rather gentle story about finding one's place in life and taking risks. The focus on dancing will likely interest many readers, and Charlie's efforts to navigate friendships have a good lesson to them. The very frequent references to "the trendy girls" did pull me out of the story quite a bit, however; the phrase seemed outdated, and it also didn't show what, exactly, made the girls "trendy." The rest worked very well, however.

Charlie walked into her first lesson at a real dance academy. She'd asked her parents if she could leave her ballet classes behind and concentrate on modern dance. They were dubious and scared because she had to get there on her own.
When she entered the room only one girl welcomed her. Charlie loved the music and watching the other girls dance. She felt different and wondered if the other girls would accept her. They were practising for the concert.
Rosie, her teacher, told her that it was too late for her to join the concert but she could be an understudy. She watched and learned and danced at the side of the class. At home, she practised and at school her best friend watched her rehearse.
She was different and worried that she'd never be accepted.
This is another great Go Girl book with a message of perseverance and listening to your own desires instilled in the story.

Karo haluaa siirtyä baletista nykytanssin pariin ja saakin ruinattua vanhemmiltaan luvan siihen. Ensimmäinen tanssitunti onkin pettymys, hänellä on vääränlaiset vaatteet ja tunnilla on lauma trendikkäitä tyttöjä jotka vain hihittelevät hänelle. Itse tanssi kuitenkin maistuu ja tuntuu ihanalta! Onneksi Karo kuitenkin sinnittelee tunneilla ja pienen onnettomuuden takia hän saa kokea jotain suurta ja ihmeellistä!

November 17, 2010The Dancing Queen is a really funny book and personally I'm scared of going up on stage to so I don't blame her.I would recommend this book to people that aren't very confident at reading but are still good at it.

I read it with my 6 year old, who really loved the story. It has a nice little ending with a message all about being yourself.
