Quick easy read and right to the point. As soon as I started this I met with a group of business partners and started applying. The results are already starting to slow and I'm looking forward to seeing the long term results of applying the FAST principles.
Management books are extremely prone to traps: oversimplification of the problems or the solution, overcomplexification of the problems or the solution, gimmicky and unsustainable 'tricks of the trade', long-winded philosophising and pop-psychologizing, or (my least favorite) just one cherry-picked bullcrap example after another from the author's razor-thin experience.
FAST falls into none of these traps. His principles find the perfect balance between being simple to explain (otherwise I don't want to read the book) and intuitively meaty and complex in their implications (otherwise I don't realistically expect results). Along the same lines as David Allen's question "So what's the next action?", Tredgold's recommendation to constantly evaluate our choices based on their potential to increase focus, accountability, simplicity, or transparency is so dead simple in its implementation and so mind-blowing in WHY DO WE NOT ALREADY DO THIS?
Boots-on-the-ground suggestions and practicum are light, but I think that's intentional, because the point is to get your own mind into the habit of bridging the gap between FAST and what we need to accomplish.
This is highly recommended.
(Full disclosure: I was provided a copy of this book for my opinion.)
This is a great book posing four simple yet influential points to becoming better as a person in business. FAST outlines the often forgotten and pushed aside common sense that reigns in success. Tredgold reminds us that in the fast paced society of today, it's important and crucial to stay focused, with accountability to self and others, to keep things simple and act with full transparency to truth. Great, quick read with impact!
I really enjoyed this quick read on leadership - FAST is an acronym for Focus, Accountability, Simplification, and Transparency, and the book discusses the benefits of each of these in a corporate environment. They are easily replicated in small businesses as well. Definitely some ideas I'm going to integrate!
Very solid content - I find Mr Tredgold's approach to be very actionable & clearly draw out.
As a related note, the Inc Mag Top 100 list of men & women is a must review : sample material ( regardless of format ) from as many of these folks as you can as often as possible.
FAST was an insightful, useful, quick read to help improve any company's strategy. Gordon Tredgold's well-targeted questions prompted me to think deeper into my own strategic plan. Add a splash of humour via real-life stories, and it's a very worthwhile read.
