Unfortunately or fortunately (I'm quite not sure how to look at it), I have been extremely busy the past few days and took longer than usual to finish even a web-novel of medium length like this. But due to my undying love towards MBFB I made sure to catch even few chapters a day. To those who know my love for this author is truly big thus my ratings are quite biased. At first I have been mentioning in my previous reviews of hers that I she is among my favorite authors in China but now I can quite firmly say she is becoming one of my all time favorite. It seems that the little teenage heart of mine would never die and once the bait of sweet romance is dangled in front of me, I am once again hooked on to it.
This novel is among the very first that our beloved author has written thus you can see a slight disconnection between the writing. Unlike her later novels the flow seems just tiny bit not smooth but do not get alarmed or discontented, the book itself is big glob of melted marshmallow that you would keep chewing for hours and hours. The story unlike her previous is much more on the fluffy side (this is mentioned unless you are not a fan of marshmallows. lol). This takes an approach much more like Go Go Squid with its sweetness and the idol and fan trope it reminded me slightly of Tong Nian and Han Shangyan. As per MBFB's novels, this doesn't take the whole teenage vibe but rather we have two mature human being going into a relationship. Unlike many Asian novels where the couple is portrayed pure till their significant other comes around, we have two people already scorned previously from their relationships. Jia He from a cheating boyfriend a few years back and Yi Wenze from a failed marriage. They both had pasts and quite surprisingly had been fated to be together for a long time. What really caught my attention was when Jia He asked Wenze what made him choose her and the straight forward and plain answer he gave. While reminiscing back on my past, I figured that if I was asked the same question, I would have given a similar answer. This sense similarity and relativity is what truly makes MFBF's novels so lovable. As a reader you can truly connect with the characters. Although in this one I slightly felt as if I was living a teenage fantasy of marrying my idol, the story straightforwardness and ability to emit relatable scenarios really made the book worthwhile reading.
As I have mentioned countless times, I am quite the fan of MBFB and I am slightly biased towards her books, so my reviews are always to the more positive side. But I am sure if anyone else reads her books, they truly would love it to. Lastly not but not least, a shout out to our amazing translators at Fanatical for taking their time and translating these novels with the permission of the author. I love how they take the proper path to do it so that both the readers and author are satisfied. Lot of love for Hoju and Peanuts for continuing to translate MBFB's books (among some other great author's too). If anyone has any recommendations or questions regarding Chinese novels, please free to drop me a PM. I will gladly help you'll out and will be forever thankful for the recommendations.
